Abstract:Marxism-feminism is a vital field with diverse voices and different political agendas for social justice, from the defense of land and water to the reorganization of production. The anthology Marxist-Feminist Theories and Struggles Today aims to grasp the originality and relevance of that tradition. The book represents a variety of contributions, defined as Marxist feminist by their authors, who presented papers at the Marxist Feminist Congress in Vienna in 2016. This was the second International Marxist Feminist Conference, the first having been initiated by the feminist section of the Berlin Institute of Critical Theory. Drawing on different theoretical frameworks and practices of Marxist feminism, the edited anthology provides an invitation to converse about our understanding and practice of engaging gendered, racialized heterocapitalism for a better global future. This book symposium and its reviewers demonstrate the richness of the resulting conversation.

Abstract:Reading the Communist Manifesto against the contemporary background of massive unemployment, the author argues that Marx's theory of work is no longer adequate to tackle the problem of `workers without work' and suggests that it has to be reformulated in such a way that its normative intuitions and its critical impulses can be maintained. In the first part, he presents a philosophical critique of Marxism that is inspired by Jürgen Habermas and Hannah Arendt. In the second part, he presents a sociological critique of Marxism and argues that the theory of the alienation of work implies a justification of work and the work society. Finally, in the last part, the author presents an ideological critique of Marxism that is inspired by Marcel Mauss' sociology of the gift. Criticising the contractualist assumptions of workfare solutions, he proposes a package solution for a radical decommodification of the labour market by means of a disjunction of income and work.

Abstract:This paper argues that the relation between marxism and feminism has, in all the forms it has so far taken, been an unequal one. While both marxist method and feminist analysis are necessary to an understanding of capitalist societies, and of the position of women within them, in fact feminism has consistently been subordinated. The paper presents a challenge to both marxist and radical feminist work on the “woman question”, and argues that what it is necessary to analyse is the combination of patriarchy and capitalism. It is a paper which, we hope, should stimulate considerable debate.

Abstract:Marx and Engels argue that capitalism must ultimately destroy itself because it contains an internal contradiction: Capitalism requires wage laborers at first to be in competitive isolation from one another, lest their common interests become transparent and they unite collectively to improve their employment conditions. At a certain later stage of capitalism's historical development, however, competition eventually forces capitalists to bring their workers together in common workplaces (factories), where their shared interests can be immediately perceived and mutual grievances directly communicated. The Communist Manifesto's argument for the inevitable downfall of capitalism is epistemically naïve in several ways, resting as it does on the idea that material interests are perceivable, and that an awareness of common problems translates automatically into a sense of shared interests powerful enough to motivate coordinated action for the sake of achieving economic-political reform.

Abstract:Feminism has branched out into a three-way approach to the concept of time. Despite the fundamental differences of opinion, the generality can also be seen in the feminist genres that developed into the three divisions of thought. Equality feminism appeared when the inadequacy of moderate feminism was realized. Extremist feminism and its consequent extreme feminism have emerged in the world as a result of the inadequacy of Egalitarian feminism. Today we can see that there is a tendency for women to choose one feminine genre as a thought-provoking guide for their life and ignore the other based on the land, family, social environment, education and economic status. In the pulsating literature of the community, one can find the people of that community and their thoughts. Feminist thought can also be seen in the works of T. Janakiraman, who creates female characters with the power of strength. The purpose of this article is to examine T. Janakiraman's novel 'Survived' by Feminist Thoughts. In T. Janakiraman 's novels, women are portrayed as a powerful personality. There are three types of feminism: T. Janakiraman; Sengamma, Renganayaki and Anusuya can be compared to the three characters in the novel 'Uyirthen'. This comparison will help us to identify the thinking resources of the three-fold feminism, to focus on the creative technique of the female characters and the social value of the woman.

Abstract:This paper analyzes Imtiaz Dharker's poem 'A Century Later' using the critical perspective of deconstruction. Through a qualitative method, the poem's dissemination and flickering of meaning are deconstructed to derive a new sense in the context of feminism. The paper explains deconstruction as a critical theory of language and examines how it explores verbal contradictions, shifts, and implicit references in the poem to reveal the uncertainty of literary meaning and language. 'A Century Later', when studied from a Deconstructive standpoint, reveals nothing stable and unified and proves that there is no single particular meaning in the text. Visual imagery is used to unravel the struggles of women persecuted worldwide and how their perseverance drives freedom. Deconstructive analysis of this text informs us that a woman cannot be separated from her liberty and educational right. The poem illustrates the implied discourse of how dominating factors have regularized conventional beliefs in our culture and elucidates women's struggle against male superiority. Through profound analysis of the text, it is concluded that women's ability cannot be suppressed to stand against the despicable social system.

Abstract:Informed by practices of women’s activism in India, this book proposes a feminist social justice framework to address the wide range of issues women face globally, including economic exploitation; sexist oppression; racial, ethnic, and caste oppression; and cultural imperialism. The feminist social justice framework provides an alternative to mainstream philosophical frameworks that analyze and promote gender justice globally: universal human rights, economic projects such as microfinance, and cosmopolitanism. These frameworks share a commitment to individualism and abstract universalism that underlie certain liberal and neoliberal approaches to justice. Arguing that these frameworks emphasize individualism over interdependence, similarity over diversity, and individual success over collective capacity, McLaren draws on the work of Rabindranath Tagore to develop the concept of relational cosmopolitanism. Relational cosmopolitanism prioritizes our connections, while acknowledging power differences. Extending Iris Young’s theory of political responsibility, McLaren shows how Fair Trade connects to the economic solidarity movement. The Self-Employed Women’s Association and MarketPlace India empower women through access to livelihoods as well as fostering leadership capabilities that allow them to challenge structural injustice through political and social activism. Their struggles to resist economic exploitation and gender oppression through collective action show the importance of challenging individualist approaches to achieving gender justice. The book concludes with a call for a shift in our thinking and practice toward reimagining the possibilities for justice from a relational framework, from independence to interdependence, from identity to intersectionality, and from interest to sociopolitical imagination.

Abstract:Social Media + Society, Volume 9, Issue 3, July-September 2023. BIPOC scholars have criticized that feminism and feminist activism have often failed to include race, class, and intersectional identities in the feminist agenda. Using theoretical concepts from framing, rhetoric, and cross-platform activism, we examine (a) the discourse in social media posts around white feminism and (b) the platform differences of this content across five different social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and YouTube. The methodology we use is a combination of computational text analysis approaches and content analysis. Our study highlights the voice of those who felt marginalized by the feminist movement including the uprising of #MeToo. We find pockets of conversations on topics such as experiences of People of Color or Women of Color; critique of white feminism, experiences of LGBTQ+ communities, and Black experiences. These posts predominantly used techniques to persuade the audience with reason, facts, and logic. The most common framing technique used was acknowledgment. Moreover, our findings show multiple differences across the five social media platforms.

Abstract:The abstract is the humble attempt to present the role of women and their plight with respect to the modern novels in general but in the novels of Virginia Woolf and Anita Desai in particular. As we know that Feminism is a rapidly developing ideology and a women's liberation movement that aims to liberate women from their oppression by a male-dominated society for a long time. In its true sense, feminism is a call for greater recognition of women's accomplishments and rights. Feminist literature in English, such as Pride and Prejudice, is certainly not a recent awareness of women's rights. Although it certainly has come into its own in recent times. The assessment and examination of the depiction of women characters without help from anyone else or in relationship with their male partners, and the enthusiasm for female creators. The fact that these are now widely accepted critical practice from a feminist perspective is noteworthy. Both the writers Virginia Woolf and Anita Desai have tried to portray their characters in the way that discusses about the freedom struggle's legacy of gender equality, women's constitutional rights, the emphasis on women's education, and the new awareness among women brought about by electronic media are among the indigenous contributing factors. The Indian woman caught between tradition and modernity, burdened by the past and the present to abandon her aspirations, is the core of aspirations, and feminism in Indian literature is centered on her. In literary terms, it begins a search for one's identity and the self-definition of a woman.

Abstract:The question of how art relates to politics has been staged a thousand times. A healthy question it is, as it shows no sign of abatement. Its life resides in a delicate balance between posing the question anew and posing it again. Within the framework of modernity, with its emphasis on making the self and the world, form reigns supreme. The language of form implies the art of making legible, tangible, and material that which is implicit all around us. As a genre, this work of negotiating aesthetic and worldly poesis is borne by the manifesto. That, at least, is Martin Puchner’s elegant formulation, one that he pursues with remarkable erudition and toward very productive ends. Puchner takes his title and lead from Marx’s genre-making text, the Communist Manifesto (1848), which teaches us that it is manifestos’ “form, not their particular complaints and demands, that articulates most succinctly the desires and hopes, maneuvers and strategies of modernity: to create points of no return; to make history; to fashion the future” (2).

Abstract:This article is about feminist transformation. The main objective is to draw the connection of feminist transformation to waves and types of feminism. Document analysis has conducted under qualitative research design for drawing conclusion. The main intention of feminist transformation is to eradicate various forms of oppression and injustice that exist on the basis of gender difference. The right to vote and property ownership, legal and social rights and the use of social media for ending oppression were the achievement of the waves and these achievements were for feminist transformation. On the other hand, all feminism types have the same motive to end oppression on the basis of gender which makes feminist transformation easier. It is concluded that there is the means-end relationship between waves and types of feminism to feminist transformation. The saying and doing of people and authority must be same for true feminist transformation.

Abstract:Feminism has deeply embedded itself into the ethos of society after several decades of political and civil unrest. Originally abolitionists, first-wave feminists fought for suffrage but experienced tensions as black men received their right to vote before white women did. In the second wave, these divisions continued, as some feminist leaders segregated their marches. In 1989, Kimberlé Crenshaw diagnosed this issue as a lack of attention to intersectionality, a political framework that addresses a variety of social issues simultaneously. However, this ideology isn’t novel. In the 1960s, Simone de Beauvoir created a definition of feminism that was inclusive of all women: “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.” As an existentialist, she believed that humans have socially constructed gender and thus could deconstruct or modify the social hierarchy. The 2017 Women’s March seemed to indicate Crenshaw and Beauvoir’s more inclusive spirit, as feminists of all backgrounds participated in a joint effort on a joint goal. But a deeper dive into the march reveals that the current generation of feminists has not tackled the root of the problem of intersectionality, hence perpetuating the same issues of the first and second wave. Both Simone de Beauvoir and a modern feminist named Koa Beck identify the cause of this immobility through capitalism and the commodification of feminism. Today, people claim that we are riding the third or fourth wave of feminism. But because we have not completely adopted an intersectional mindset, we have yet to leave the second wave.

Abstract:Feminism as a movement has had a tremendous impact on almost all the genres of literature. It has enveloped people at large; especially women or to be more precise, women of the 21st century. It is a matter of discussion whether the influence it has exercised can be categorised as positive or negative. But for sure, the transformation with respect to the gender roles in society is notable. Women of today have not only become aware of their rights but are also well informed about the ample opportunities they have in every field. They have empowered and liberated themselves from the age old taboos and shackles. Shobha De, a journalist, short story writer and a novelist of recognition like the other inspiring female writers, has also carved a niche for herself in the area of feminist writings. She is famous for her bold style of writings. Her novels are a study in feminism and portray women with liberated mindset. She is realistic and frank in her character portrayal and is often misunderstood as being vulgar in her expressions. In a country like India, when the talks of sex and romance were considered as embarrassing, Shobha De became one of the pioneers of presentation of open expressions in matters related to women, sex and eroticism. It will not be incorrect to state that feminism is a continuous thought which is manifest in almost all the writings of Shobha De. Socialite Evenings, presents the life of the protagonist, Karuna, who revolts from the set norms and customs, held by the society in search of her identity. Though Shobha De has succeeded in the presentation of her viewpoint related to the socialite women of Bombay through the character of Karuna, but Karuna, in our opinion cannot be accepted to be an archetype of women liberation, emancipation and independence. The location of Indian woman cannot be discordant with the Indian cultural traditions and important necessary customs.

Abstract:In today's world, feminist thinking is flourishing, and scholars are increasingly concerned about women's groups, queer groups and other disadvantaged groups, with ideas that are becoming more open and diverse. Along with this change in the world landscape, feminism has gained more momentum, and Jane Eyre, an exemplary feminist masterpiece, has been widely studied by scholars. So this essay focuses on the writings of Jane Eyre, looking at the 'madwoman' Mason in the book, exploring the blurring and demonisation of the role of women, and considering the modern development of feminism. By closely reading the text and combining it with Spivak's theoretical framework of feminism, this paper aims to discover how the discourse on women's groups has been colonised in society and how feminism has been underdeveloped. The result is that reality, like fiction, has a habit of obscuring and demonising the female community and men are induced to obscure and demonise women through discourse, thereby consolidating male-centred hegemony. There is still a long way to go regarding women's liberation, equality and freedom. Women need to make aware of their disadvantages and inequality from the inside out, to understand clearly the methods men use to demonise women, to learn how to counteract these methods and to give women a voice. Women need to be self-respecting and confident and unite the strength of spirit of women and the disadvantaged to fight uncompromisingly against all hegemony and for the human rights to which they are entitled.
