Abstract:<p>Enduring interests in two dimensional (2D) layered materials are attributed to their unique physicochemical properties. They are now extensively used in fluorescence-based chemical sensors as a quencher or as a fluorophore. In this review, we discuss recent progress in the field of chemical sensors that operate through fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in association with 2D materials. With a short introduction about the 2D materials, in general, we examine the luminescence properties of important 2D materials such as graphene, graphene oxide (GO), MoS2 and WS2. Various FRET-based sensors of these materials are presented after classifying them into FRET acceptors and FRET donors.</p>
