Abstract:Let $L^{s,p}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ denote the homogeneous Sobolev-Slobodeckij space. In this paper, we demonstrate the existence of a bounded linear extension operator from the jet space $J^{\lfloor s \rfloor}_E L^{s,p}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ to $L^{s,p}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ for any $E \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$, $p \in [1, \infty)$, and $s \in (0, \infty)$ satisfying $\frac{n}{p} < \{s\}$, where $\{s\}$ represents the fractional part of $s$. Our approach builds upon the classical Whitney extension operator and uses the method of exponentially decreasing paths.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the existence of a bounded linear extension operator T : L 2 , p ( E ) → L 2 , p ( R 2 ) when 1 < p < 2, where E ⊂ R 2 is a certain discrete set with fractal structure. Our proof makes use of a theorem of Fefferman–Klartag ("Linear extension operators for Sobolev spaces on radially symmetric binary trees," Adv. Nonlinear Stud. , vol. 23, no. 1, p. 20220075, 2023) on the existence of linear extension operators for radially symmetric binary trees.

Abstract:In this article, we study $(p,q)$-extension operators of Sobolev spaces, based on the duality of composition operators within these spaces. We construct Sobolev extension operators in Hölder singular domains using corresponding reflections. In addition, we use the $(p,q)$-extension operators to estimate non-linear Neumann eigenvalues.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the relationship between Sobolev extension domains and homogeneous Sobolev extension domains. Precisely, we obtain the following results. 1- Let $1\leq q\leq p\leq \infty$. Then a bounded $(L^{1, p}, L^{1, q})$-extension domain is also a $(W^{1, p}, W^{1, q})$-extension domain. 2- Let $1\leq q\leq p<q^\star\leq \infty$ or $n< q \leq p\leq \infty$. Then a bounded domain is a $(W^{1, p}, W^{1, q})$-extension domain if and only if it is an $(L^{1, p}, L^{1, q})$-extension domain. 3- For $1\leq q<n$ and $q^\star<p\leq \infty$, there exists a bounded domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ which is a $(W^{1, p}, W^{1, q})$-extension domain but not an $(L^{1, p}, L^{1, q})$-extension domain for $1 \leq q <p\leq n$.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a finite tree with radially decaying weights. We show that there exists a set $E \subset \mathbb{R}^2$ for which the following two problems are equivalent: (1) Given a (real-valued) function $\phi$ on the leaves of $V$, extend it to a function $\Phi$ on all of $V$ so that $||\Phi||_{L^{1,p}(V)}$ has optimal order of magnitude. Here, $L^{1,p}(V)$ is a weighted Sobolev space on $V$. (2) Given a function $f:E \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$, extend it to a function $F \in L^{2,p}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ so that $||F||_{L^{2,p}(\mathbb{R}^2)}$ has optimal order of magnitude.

Abstract:We study the basic question of characterizing which boundary homeomorphisms of the unit sphere can be extended to a Sobolev homeomorphism of the interior in 3D space. While the planar variants of this problem are well-understood, completely new and direct ways of constructing an extension are required in 3D. We prove, among other things, that a Sobolev homeomorphism φ : R 2 → onto R 2 in W loc 1 , p ( R 2 , R 2 ) for some p ∈ [ 1 , ∞ ) admits a homeomorphic extension h : R 3 → onto R 3 in W loc 1 , q ( R 3 , R 3 ) for 1 ⩽ q < 3 2 p . Such an extension result is nearly sharp, as the bound q = 3 2 p cannot be improved due to the Hölder embedding. The case q = 3 gains an additional interest as it also provides an L 1 -variant of the celebrated Beurling-Ahlfors quasiconformal extension result.

Abstract:In the present paper, we establish sharp Sobolev estimates for solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic equations, under minimal, asymptotic, assumptions on the governing operator. In particular, we prove that solutions are in Wloc2,1;p$$W^{2,1;p}_{ loc }$$. Our argument unfolds by importing improved regularity from a limiting configuration. In this concrete case, we recur to the recession function associated with F. This machinery allows us to impose conditions solely on the original operator at the infinity of S(d)$$\mathcal {S}(d)$$. From a heuristic viewpoint, integral regularity would be set by the behavior of F at the ends of that space. Moreover, we explore a number of consequences of our findings, and develop some related results; these include a parabolic version of Escauriaza’s exponent, a universal modulus of continuity for the solutions and estimates in p-BMO spaces.

Abstract:We consider a separable compact line $K$ and its extension $L$ consisting of $K$ and a countable number of isolated points. The main object of study is the existence of a bounded extension operator $E: C(K)\to C(L)$. We show that if such an operator exists then there is one for which $\|E\|$ is an odd natural number. We prove that if the topological weight of $K$ is bigger than or equal to the least cardinality of a set $X \subseteq [0,1]$ that cannot be covered by a sequence of closed sets of measure zero then there is an extension $L$ of $K$ admitting no bounded extension operator.

Abstract:We study the perturbed Sobolev space $H^{1,r}_\alpha$, $r \in (1,\infty),$ associated with singular perturbation $\Delta_\alpha$ of Laplace operator in Euclidean space of dimension $2.$ The main results give the possibility to extend the $L^2$ theory of perturbed Sobolev space to the $L^r$ case. When $r \in (2,\infty)$ we have appropriate representation of the functions in $H^{1,r}_\alpha$ in regular and singular part. An application to local well - posedness of the NLS associated with this singular perturbation in the mass critical and mass supercritical cases is established too.

Positive solutions to nonlinear elliptic problems involving Sobolev exponent

Abstract:In this paper we consider nonlinear elliptic PDEs of the type $$-\Delta_p u+a(x)|u|^{p-2}u=|u|^{p^*-2}u \qquad \mbox{ in }\Omega,$$ where $1<p<N$ and $p^*=Np/(N-p)$ is the critical Sobolev exponent, and allowing the asymptotic behavior of the weight function $a$ to be sensitive to the direction. We provide a unified variational approach to obtain existence of distinct solutions in either the unbounded case $\Omega=\mathbb{R}^N$ or when $\Omega$ is a smooth bounded domain. A key point is a precise description of the compactness properties of certain sequences of approximating solutions (Palais-Smale sequences), for which we use novel observations on nonexistence in certain regimes. Most of our main results are new in the case of the classical Laplace operator, $p=2$.

Abstract:We investigate an arbitrary regular elliptic boundary-value problem given in a bounded Euclidean domain with infinitely smooth boundary. We prove that the operator of the problem is bounded and Fredholm in appropriate pairs of Hörmander inner product spaces. They are parametrized with the help of an arbitrary radial function RO-varying at infinity and form the extended Sobolev scale. We establish a priori estimates for solutions to the problem and investigate their local regularity on this scale. We find new sufficient conditions for generalized partial derivatives of the solutions to be continuous.

Abstract:We consider spectral projectors associated to the Euclidean Laplacian on the two-dimensional torus, in the case where the spectral window is narrow. Bounds for their L 2 to L p operator norm are derived, extending the classical result of Sogge; a new question on the convolution kernel of the projector is introduced. The methods employed include decoupling, small cap decoupling and estimates of exponential sums.

Extensions of divergence-free fields in $\mathrm{L}^{1}$-based function spaces

Abstract:We establish the first extension results for divergence-free (or solenoidal) elements of $\mathrm{L}^{1}$-based function spaces. Here, the key point is to preserve the solenoidality constraint while simultaneously keeping the underlying $\mathrm{L}^{1}$-boundedness. While previous results as in Kato et al. [Extension and representation of divergence-free vector fields on bounded domains, Math. Res. Lett., 2000] for $\mathrm{L}^{p}$-based function spaces, $1<p<\infty$, rely on PDE approaches, basic principles from harmonic analysis rule out such strategies in the $\mathrm{L}^{1}$-context. By means of a novel method adapted to the divergence-free constraint via differential forms, we establish the existence of such extension operators in the $\mathrm{L}^{1}$-based situation. This applies both to the case of convex domains, where a global extensions can be achieved, as well as to the Lipschitz case, where a local extension can be achieved. Being applicable to $1<p<\infty$ too, our method provides a unifying approach to the cases $p\in\{1,\infty\}$ and $1<p<\infty$. Specifically, covering the exponents $p\in\{1,\infty\}$, this answers a borderline case left open by Kato et al. [Extension and representation of divergence-free vector fields on bounded domains, Math. Res. Lett., 2000] in the affirmative. By use of explicit examples, the assumptions on the underlying domains are shown to be almost optimal.

Abstract:Given a bounded Lipschitz domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n$, Rychkov showed that there is a linear extension operator $\mathcal E$ for $\Omega$ which is bounded in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. In this paper we introduce some new estimates for the extension operator $\mathcal E$ and give some applications. We prove the equivalent norms $\|f\|_{\mathscr A_{pq}^s(\Omega)}\approx\sum_{|\alpha|\le m}\|\partial^\alpha f\|_{\mathscr A_{pq}^{s-m}(\Omega)}$ for general Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. We also derive some quantitative smoothing estimates of the extended function and all its derivatives on $\overline\Omega^c$ up to the boundary.
