Abstract:We prove the following rigidity theorem: For an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with boundary whose Ricci curvature is bounded by n-1 from below, if its boundary is isometric to the standard sphere of dimension n-1 and totally geodesic, then the manifold is isometric to the standard hemisphere.

Abstract:Let M 2 be a compact Willmore surface in the (2 + p )-dimensional unit sphere S 2 + p . Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M 2 , respectively. Set ρ 2 = S −2 H 2 . In this note, we proved that there exists a universal positive constant C , such that if ∥ ρ 2 ∥ 2 < C , then ρ 2 =0 and M 2 is a totally umbilical sphere.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract: We prove that a hemisphere in the Euclidean space $R^{n+1}$, viewed as the graph of a function, admits no smooth perturbations as graphs with mean curvature $H\ge 1$ whose boundary equator is fixed up to $C^2$. This is an extension of the \emph{Mean Curvature Rigidity} phenomenon discovered by Gromov and Souam on non-compact totally umbilic hypersurfaces in space forms. The proof uses a Tangency Principle. On the other hand, we show that there exist nontrivial smooth perturbations with $H\ge 1$ on a great spherical cap whose boundary is fixed up to $C^2$. Similar results hold true for perturbations decreasing $H$, and for the $r$ mean curvature function $H_r$. This contrast between rigidity and non-rigidity is even true in the 1-dimensional case for circles and for discrete objects (polygons inscribed in a circle).

Abstract:I prove a scalar curvature rigidity theorem for spheres. In particular, I prove that geodesic balls of radii strictly less than $\frac{\pi}{2}$ in $n+1~(n\geq 2)$ dimensional unit sphere are rigid under smooth perturbations that increase scalar curvature preserving the intrinsic and extrinsic geometry of the boundary, and such rigidity result fails for the hemisphere. The proof of this assertion requires the notion of a real Killing connection and solution of the boundary value problem associated with its Dirac operator. The result serves as the sharpest refinement of the now-disproven Min-Oo conjecture.

Abstract:We prove a scalar-mean rigidity theorem for compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary in dimension less than five by extending Schoen-Yau dimension reduction argument. As a corollary, we prove the sharp spherical radius rigidity theorem and best NNSC fill-in in terms of the mean curvature. Additionally, we prove a (Lipschitz) Listing type scalar-mean comparison rigidity theorem for these dimensions. Our results remove the spin assumption.

Abstract:Let $(M,g)$ be a closed connected oriented (possibly non-spin) smooth four-dimensional manifold with scalar curvature bounded below by $n(n-1)$. In this paper, we prove that if $f$ is a smooth map of non-zero degree from $(M, g)$ to the unit four-sphere, then $f$ is an isometry. Following ideas of Gromov, we use $\mu$-bubbles and a version with coefficients of the rigidity of the three-sphere to rule out the case of strict inequality. Our proof of rigidity is based on the harmonic map heat flow coupled with the Ricci flow.

Abstract:Using an analogue of Myers' theorem for minimal surfaces and three dimensional topology, we prove the diameter sphere theorem for Ricci curvature in dimension three and a corresponding eigenvalue pinching theorem. This settles these two open problems for closed 3 manifolds with positive Ricci curvature since they are both false in dimensions greater than three.

Abstract:A closed connected oriented Riemannian manifold $N$ with non-vanishing Euler characteristic, non-negative curvature operator and $0<2\text{Ric}_N<\text{scal}_N$ is area-rigid in the sense that any area non-increasing spin map $f\colon M\to N$ from a closed connected oriented Riemannian manifold $M$ with non-vanishing $\hat{A}$-degree and $\text{scal}_M\geq \text{scal}_N\mathop{\circ}\nolimits f$ is a Riemannian submersion. This is due to Goette and Semmelmann and generalizes a result by Llarull. In this article, we show area-rigidity for not necessarily orientable manifolds with respect to a larger class of maps $f\colon M\to N$ by replacing the topological condition on the $\hat{A}$-degree by a less restrictive condition involving the so-called higher mapping degree. This includes fiber bundles over even dimensional spheres with enlargeable fibers, e.g. $pr_1\colon S^{2n}\times T^k \to S^{2n}$. We develop a technique to extract from a non-vanishing higher index a geometrically useful family of almost $\mathcal{D}$-harmonic sections. This also leads to a new proof of the fact that any closed connected spin manifold with non-negative scalar curvature and non-trivial Rosenberg index is Ricci flat.

Abstract:For compact submanifolds in Euclidean and Spherical space forms with Ricci curvature bounded below by a function $\alpha(n,k,H,c)$ of mean curvature, we prove that the submanifold is either isometric to the Einstein Clifford torus, or a topological sphere for the maximal bound $\alpha(n,[\frac{n}{2}],H,c)$, or has up to $k$-th homology groups vanishing. This gives an almost complete (except for the differentiable sphere theorem) characterization of compact submanifolds with pinched Ricci curvature, generalizing celebrated rigidity results obtained by Ejiri, Xu-Tian, Xu-Gu, Xu-Leng-Gu, Vlachos, Dajczer-Vlachos.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new proof for Perelman's scalar curvature and diameter estimates for the Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. The proof relies on a new Harnack estimate for a special family of functions in space-time. Our new approach initiates the work in \cite{JST23a} for general finite time solutions of the Kähler-Ricci flow.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed submanifold with parallel mean curvature in Sn+p, (h) over tilde, it the trace free part of the second fundamental form, and (sigma) over tilde (u) = parallel to(h) over tilde (u, u)parallel to(2) for any unit vector u is an element of TM. We prove that there exists a positive constant C(n, p, H) (>= 1/3) such that if (sigma) over tilde (u) <= C(n. p, H), then either (sigma) over tilde (u) equivalent to 0 and M is a totally umbilical sphere, or (sigma) over tilde (u) equivalent to C(n, p, H). A geometrical classification of closed submanifolds with parallel mean curvature satisfying (sigma) over tilde (u) equivalent to C(n, p, H) is also given. Our main result is an extension of the Gauchman theorem [4].

Abstract:We prove a generalization of Gromov's conjecture on scalar curvature rigidity of convex polytopes to arbitrary convex Riemannian polytope type domains via harmonic spinors on convex domians with boundary condition constructed by Brendle. In particular, we prove a rigidity results on comparison of scalar curvature and scaled mean curvature on the boundary for any convex domain in Euclidean space, which is a parallel of Shi-Tam's results.

Abstract:By the integral method we prove that any space-like entire graphic self-shrinking solution to Lagrangian mean curvature flow in $\R^{2n}_{n}$ with the indefinite metric $\sum_i dx_idy_i$ is flat. This result improves the previous ones in \cite{HW} and \cite{CCY} by removing the additional assumption in their results. In a similar manner, we reprove its Euclidean counterpart which is established in \cite{CCY}.

Abstract:We prove a new rigidity result for metrics defined on closed smooth $ n $-manifolds that are critical for the quadratic functional $ \mathfrak{F}_{t} $, which depends on the Ricci curvature $ Ric $ and the scalar curvature $ R $, and that satisfy a pinching condition of the form $ Sec > \epsilon R $, where $ \epsilon $ is a function of $ t $ and $ n $, while $ Sec $ denotes the sectional curvature. In particular, we show that Bach-flat metrics with constant scalar curvature satisfying $ Sec > \frac{1}{48} R $ are Einstein and, by a known result, are isometric to $ \mathbb{S}^{4} $, $ \mathbb{RP}^{4} $ or $ \mathbb{CP}^{2} $.

Abstract:We prove a vanishing theorem for the fundamental group of a compact submanifold in a space form, and then present a refined version of Ejiri's rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in a sphere. Inspired by the refined Ejiri theorem, we verify a new differentiable sphere theorem for compact submanifolds in space forms. We also show that our differentiable sphere theorem is sharp. We emphasize that our method of Ricci flow in the proof of the sphere theorem seems useful in the study of curvature and topology. Also, we obtain a differentiable pinching theorem for compact submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.
