Abstract:In this paper we introduce the Fourier-Mukai transform for Lawson homology of abelian varieties and prove an inversion theorem for the Lawson homology as well as the morphic cohomology of abelian varieties. As applications, we obtain the direct sum decomposition of the Lawson homology and the morphic cohomology groups with rational coefficients, inspired by Beauville's works on the Chow theory. An analogue of the Beauville conjecture for Chow groups is proposed and is shown to be equivalent to the (weak) Suslin conjecture for Lawson homology. A filtration on Lawson homology is proposed and conjecturally it coincides to the filtration given by the direct sum decomposition of Lawson homology for abelian varieties. Moreover, a refined Friedlander-Lawson duality theorem is obtained for abelian varieties. We summarize several related conjectures in Lawson homology theory in the appendix for convenience.

Abstract:The Lawson homology of a smooth projective variety with a $\C^*$-action is given in terms of that of the fixed point set of this action. We also consider such a decomposition for the Lawson homology of certain singular projective varieties with a $\C^*$-action. As applications, we calculate the Lawson homology and higher Chow groups for several examples.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, Lawson homology and morphic cohomology are defined for Chow motives. As consequences, we rederive the projective bundle formula proved by Friedlander and Gabber, the blowup formula for Lawson homology by the first author, and a formula for certain homogeneous projective varieties, including those admitting cellular decompositions. We also define rational coefficient Lawson homology and morphic cohomology for Chow motives of finite quotient varieties. As a consequence, we obtain a formula for the Hilbert scheme of points on a smooth complex projective surface. We also discuss generic finite maps, in particular, we give examples of self‐product of smooth projective curves with nontrivial Griffiths groups by using a result of Ceresa. © 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Abstract:Let X be a smooth projective variety of dimension n on which rational and homological equivalence coincide for algebraic p-cycles in the range 0\leq p\leq s. We show that the homologically trivial sector of rational Lawson homology L_pH_k(X,Q)_{hom} vanishes for 0\leq n-p\leq s+2. This is an analogue of a theorem of C. Peters in "dual dimensions". Together with Peters' theorem we get that the natural transformation L_pH_k(X,Q)--> H_k(X,Q) is injective for all p and k when X is a smooth projective variety of dimension 4 and Ch_0(X) =Z.

Abstract:The Euler characteristic of Chow varieties of algebraic cycles of a given degree in complex projective spaces was computed by Blaine Lawson and Stephen Yau by using holomorphic symmetries of cycles spaces. In this paper we compute this in a direct and elementary way and generalize this formula to the l-adic Euler-Poincare characteristic for Chow varieties over any algebraically closed field. Moreover, the Euler characteristic for Chow varieties with certain group action is calculated. In particular, we calculate the Euler characteristic of the space of right quaternionic cycles of a given dimension and degree in complex projective spaces.

In our proof of the main theorem, in addition to considering the Demazure–Hansen smooth compactifications of X ( w ), we show that a similar class of constructions provide smooth compactifications of X ( w ) in the case of . Furthermore, we show in the appendix that the Zariski closure of X ( w ), for any connected reductive group G and any w , has pseudo-rational singularities.

Abstract:We construct rational projective 4-dimensional varieties with the property that certain Lawson homology groups tensored with Q{ \mathbb {Q}} are infinite dimensional Q{\mathbb {Q}}-vector spaces. More generally, for each pair of integers pp and kk, with k≥0k\geq 0, p>0p>0, we find a projective variety YY such that LpH2p+k(Y)L_pH_{2p+k}(Y) is infinitely generated. We also construct two singular rational projective 3-dimensional varieties YY and Y′Y’ with the same homeomorphism type but different Lawson homology groups; specifically, L1H3(Y)L_1H_3(Y) is not isomorphic to L1H3(Y′)L_1H_3(Y’) even up to torsion.

Abstract:For connected reductive groups together with a Frobenius root $F$ that preserves the set of simple reflections, we show that for every tuple $(w_1,\ldots, w_r)$ of Weyl group elements there exists a minimal length element in an $F$-conjugacy class in $W$ such that the cohomology of the structure sheaf and the canonical sheaf for the associated compactified Deligne--Lusztig varieties are isomorphic respectively.

Abstract:We develop the description of non-commutative geometry of the 4-dimensional quantum Hall fluid's theory proposed recently by Zhang and Hu. The non-commutative structure of fuzzy S4, which is the base of the bundle S7 obtained by the second Hopf fibration, i.e., S7/S3=S4, appears naturally in this theory. The fuzzy monopole harmonics, which are the essential elements in the non-commutative algebra of functions on S4, are explicitly constructed and their obeying the matrix algebra is obtained. This matrix algebra is associative. We also propose a fusion scheme of the fuzzy monopole harmonics of the coupling system from those of the subsystems, and determine the fusion rule in such fusion scheme. By products, we provide some essential ingredients of the theory of SO(5) angular momentum. In particular, the explicit expression of the coupling coefficients, in the theory of SO(5) angular momentum, are given. We also discuss some possible applications of our results to the 4-dimensional quantum Hall system and the matrix brane construction in M-theory.
Diffuse radio emission in a REFLEX cluster

Abstract:Deep Very Large Array radio observations are presented for the REFLEX clusters RXCJ0437.1+0043 and RXCJ1314.4-2515. They are at similar distance and show similar X-ray luminosity, but they are quite different in X-ray structure. Indeed RXCJ0437.1+0043 is regular and relaxed, whereas RXCJ1314.4-2515 is characterized by substructure and possible merging processes. The radio images reveal no diffuse emission in RXCJ0437.1+0043, and a complex diffuse structure in RXCJ1314.4-2515. The diffuse source in the latter cluster consists of a central radio halo which extends to the West toward the cluster periphery and bends to the North to form a possible relic. Another extended source is detected in the eastern cluster peripheral region. Although there could be plausible optical identifications for this source, it might also be a relic candidate owing to its very steep spectrum. The present results confirm the tight link between diffuse cluster radio sources and cluster merger processes.

Abstract:We construct an Abel-Jacobi type map on the homologically trivial part of Lawson homology groups. It generalizes the Abel-Jacobi map constructed by Griffiths. By using a result of H. Clemens, we answer affirmatively the question whether there exists a smooth projective complex variety with infinitely generated Lawson homology groups $L_pH_{2p+k}(X, {{\Bbb Q}})$ when $k>0$. As a corollary, we find, for any nonnegative integer $j$, a smooth complex projective variety $X$ carrying infinitely generated semi-topological $K$-groups $K^{sst}_j(X)_{{\Bbb Q}}$.

On Hard Lefschetz Conjecture on Lawson Homology

Abstract:Friedlander and Mazur proposed a conjecture of hard Lefschetz type on Lawson homology. We shall relate this conjecture to Suslin conjecture on Lawson homology. For abelian varieties, this conjecture is shown to be equivalent to a vanishing conjecture of Beauville type on Lawson homology. For symmetric products of curves, we show that this conjecture amounts to the vanishing conjecture of Beauville type for the Jacobians of the corresponding curves. As a consequence, Suslin conjecture holds for all symmetric products of curves with genus at most 2.

Abstract:We show that the chow group of $p$-cycles with rational coefficients are isomorphic to the corresponding rational homology groups for smooth complex projective varieties carrying a holomorphic vector field with an isolated zero locus. As applications, we obtain Chow groups and Lawson homology groups with rational coefficients and verify the Friedlander-Mazur conjecture and the Generalized Hodge conjecture for those varieties.

Abstract:This is a paper in a series that studies smooth relative Lie algebra homologies and cohomologies based on the theory of formal manifolds and formal Lie groups. In two previous papers, we develop the basic theory of formal manifolds, including generalizations of vector-valued distributions and generalized functions on smooth manifolds to the setting of formal manifolds. In this paper, we establish Poincaré's lemma for de Rham complexes with coefficients in formal functions, formal generalized functions, compactly supported formal densities, or compactly supported formal distributions.

Abstract:In this paper, we deduce explicit multiplicity formulas of the Fourier-Jacobi model for Deligne-Lusztig characters of finite symplectic groups, unitary groups, and general linear groups. We then apply these results to deduce the explicit depth zero local descent (à la Soudry and Tanay) for $p$-adic unitary groups. The result is a concrete example in the context of non-tempered Gan-Gross-Prasad program.

Abstract:We determine several classes of smooth complex projective surfaces on which Zariski decomposition can be combined with vanishing theorems to yield cohomology formulae for all line bundles. The obtained formulae express cohomologies in terms of divisor class intersections, and are adapted to the decomposition of the effective cone into Zariski chambers. In particular, we show this occurs on generalised del Pezzo surfaces, toric surfaces, and K3 surfaces. In the second part we use these surface results to derive formulae for all line bundle cohomology on a simple class of elliptically fibered Calabi–Yau three-folds. Computing such quantities is a crucial step in deriving the massless spectrum in string compactifications.
