Abstract:Using techniques developed in the revision theory of truth, I build a model for the set theory NF (New Foundations) developed by Quine in ZF, therefore proving its consistency relative to ZF. The model is essentially a term model; the sets of NF are interpreted as equivalence classes of closed stratified terms of a language that is a slight modification of that of NF.

Abstract:Günter Asser (1981) introduced second-order permutation models. In this way, the Fraenkel-Mostowski-Specker method for defining models of ZFA was transferred to a new application area. To investigate the strength of second-order principles of choice in second-order predicate logic (PLII) with Henkin interpretation (HPL), we have extended the Fraenkel-Mostowski-Specker-Asser method. Here we discuss many details, including some useful references. Finally, we address a question raised by Stephen Mackereth.

Abstract:This article examines the notion of invariance under different kinds of permutations in a milieu of a theory of classes and sets, as a semantic motivation for Quine's new foundations "NF". The approach largely depends on interpreting a finite axiomatization of NF beginning from the least restrictions on permutations and then gradually upgrading those restrictions as to enable interpreting NF. Comparisons with earlier works are drawn.

Abstract:A trivial automorphism of the Boolean algebra $\mathcal P(\mathbb N) / \mathrm{Fin}$ is an automorphism induced by the action of some function $\mathbb N \rightarrow \mathbb N$. In models of forcing axioms all automorphisms are trivial, and therefore two trivial automorphisms are conjugate if and only if they have the same (modulo finite) cycle structure. We show that the Continuum Hypothesis implies that two trivial automorphisms are conjugate if and only if there are neither first-order obstructions nor index obstructions for their conjugacy. This is equivalent to given trivial automorphisms being conugate in some forcing extension of the universe. To each automorphism $\alpha$ of $\mathcal P(\mathbb N) / \mathrm{Fin}$ we associate the first-order structure $\mathfrak{A}_\alpha=(\mathcal P(\mathbb N) / \mathrm{Fin},\alpha)$ and compute the existential theories of these structures. These results are applied to resolve a question of Braga, Farah, and Vignati and prove that there are coarse metric spaces $X$ and $Y$ such that the isomorphism between their uniform Roe coronas is independent from $\mathsf{ZFC}$.

Abstract:We adapt the notion of a (relatively) definable subset of Aut(M) when M is a saturated model to the case Aut(M/A) when M is atomic and strongly omega-homogeneous over A. We discuss the existence and uniqueness of invariant measures on the Boolean algebra of definable subsets of Aut(M/A). For example when Th(M) is stable we have existence and uniqueness. We also discuss the compatibility of our definability notions with definable Galois cohomology and differential Galois theory.

Abstract:Network functions (NFs), like firewall, NAT, IDS, have been widely deployed in today's modern networks. However, currently there is no standard specification or modeling language that can accurately describe the complexity and diversity of NFs. Recently there have been research efforts to propose NF models. However, they are often generated manually and thus error-prone. This paper proposes a method to automatically synthesize NF models via program analysis. We develop a tool called NFactor, which conducts code refactoring and program slicing on NF source code, in order to generate its forwarding model. We demonstrate its usefulness on two NFs and evaluate its correctness.
Model structures for diagrammatic $(\infty, n)$-categories

Abstract:Diagrammatic sets admit a notion of internal equivalence in the sense of coinductive weak invertibility, with similar properties to its analogue in strict $\omega$-categories. We construct a model structure whose fibrant objects are diagrammatic sets in which every round pasting diagram is equivalent to a single cell -- its weak composite -- and propose them as a model of $(\infty, \infty)$-categories. For each $n < \infty$, we then construct a model structure whose fibrant objects are those $(\infty, \infty)$-categories whose cells in dimension $> n$ are all weakly invertible. We show that weak equivalences between fibrant objects are precisely morphisms that are essentially surjective on cells of all dimensions. On the way to this result, we also construct model structures for $(\infty, n)$-categories on marked diagrammatic sets, which split into a coinductive and an inductive case when $n = \infty$, and prove that they are Quillen equivalent to the unmarked model structures when $n < \infty$ and in the coinductive case of $n = \infty$. Finally, we prove that the $(\infty, 0)$-model structure is Quillen equivalent to the classical model structure on simplicial sets. This establishes the first proof of the homotopy hypothesis for a model of $\infty$-groupoids defined as $(\infty, \infty)$-categories whose cells in dimension $> 0$ are all weakly invertible.

This version takes the approach of building a model of tangled type theory rather than a model of the usual set theory without choice with a tangled web of cardinals; further, details of the construction are refined due to interaction with the now complete verification in Lean by the second author.

Abstract:We prove that the category of ordered abelian groups equipped with an automorphism has the Amalgamation Property, deduce that their inductive theory is N I P \mathsf {NIP} in the sense of positive logic, and initiate a development of the latter framework. As byproducts of the proof, we obtain a generalised version of the Hahn Embedding Theorem which allows to lift each automorphism of an ordered abelian group to one of an ordered real vector space, and we show that, on existentially closed structures, linear combinations of iterates of the automorphism have the Intermediate Value Property.

Abstract:We define and study the $(\infty,2)$-category $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ of $(\infty,1)$-categories internal to a general $(\infty,1)$-category $\mathcal{C}$ via an associated externalization construction. In the first part, we show various formal closure properties of $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ regarding limits, tensors, cotensors and internal mapping objects under the assumption of various suitable closure properties of $\mathcal{C}$. In particular, we show that $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ defines a cartesian closed full sub-$\infty$-cosmos of the $\infty$-cosmos $\mathbf{Fun}(\mathcal{C}^{op},\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty})$ of $\mathcal{C}$-indexed $(\infty,1)$-categories under suitable assumptions on $\mathcal{C}$. We furthermore characterize the objects of $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ by means of a Yoneda lemma that expresses indexed diagrams of internal shape over $\mathcal{C}$ in terms of an $(\infty,1)$-categorical totalization. In the second part, we relate the general theory developed to this point to results in the model categorical literature. We show that every model category $\mathbb{M}$ gives rise to a ''hands-on'' $\infty$-cosmos $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathbb{M})$ (of not-necessarily cofibrant objects) directly by restriction of the Reedy model structure on $\mathbb{M}^{\Delta^{op}}$. We then define an according right derived model categorical externalization functor, and use it to show that the $(\infty,1)$-categorical and the model categorical constructions correspond to one another whenever $\mathcal{C}$ is presentable and $\mathbb{M}$ is a suitable presentation thereof.

Abstract:We study new relations of the following statements with weak choice principles in ZF and ZFA. 1. There does not exist an infinite Hausdorff space X such that every infinite subset of X contains an infinite compact subset. 2. If a field has an algebraic closure then it is unique up to isomorphism. 3. For every infinite set X, there exists a permutation of X without fixed points. Moreover, we prove that the principle ``Any infinite locally finite connected graph has a spanning m-bush for any even integer m greater than or equal to 4'' is equivalent to Kőnig's Lemma in ZF. We also study the new status of different weak choice principles in the finite partition model (a type of permutation model) introduced by B.B. Bruce in 2016. Further, we prove that Van Douwen's Choice Principle holds in two recently constructed known permutation models.

Abstract:We develop a new method of interpreting large cardinal axioms as giving rise to topological symmetries of the universe of sets, similar to the construction of Fraenkel-Mostowski-Specker models. This allows us to define a "symmetric" inner model construction. In this vein, we use Fraenkel-Mostowski-Specker type stabiliser arguments to deduce the Kunen inconsistency, as well as resolving an open problem of Rogers.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to describe the group of strongly stable automorphisms of the category of free finitely generated non-associative algebras with unit. The motivation of this research comes from universal algebraic geometry. From this perspective, our main result tells us what are the non-associative algebras with unit geometrically similar to a given one. The characterization of strongly stable automorphisms is provided by the method of verbal operations. We also specify some facts related to behavior of nullary operations on arbitrary algebraic structures.

Models of $2$-nondegenerate CR hypersurface in $\mathbb{C}^N$

Abstract:We show that every point in a uniformly $2$-nondegenerate CR hypersurface is canonically associated with a model $2$-nondegenerate structure. The $2$-nondegenerate models are basic CR invariants playing the same fundamental role as quadrics do in the Levi nondegenerate case. We characterize all $2$-nondegenerate models and show that the moduli space of such hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^N$ is infinite dimensional for each $N>3$. We derive a normal form for these models' defining equations that is unique up to an action of a finite dimensional Lie group. We generalize recently introduced CR invariants termed modified symbols, and show how to compute these intrinsically defined invariants from a model's defining equation. We show that these models automatically possess infinitesimal symmetries spanning a complement to their Levi kernel and derive explicit formulas for them.

Abstract:We investigate the generalized involution models of the projective reflection groups $G(r,p,q,n)$. This family of groups parametrizes all quotients of the complex reflection groups $G(r,p,n)$ by scalar subgroups. Our classification is ultimately incomplete, but we provide several necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized involution models to exist in various cases. In the process we solve several intermediate problems concerning the structure of projective reflection groups. We derive a simple criterion for determining whether two groups $G(r,p,q,n)$ and $G(r,p',q',n)$ are isomorphic. We also describe explicitly the form of all automorphisms of $G(r,p,q,n)$, outside a finite list of exceptional cases. Building on prior work, this allows us to prove that $G(r,p,1,n)$ has a generalized involution model if and only if $G(r,p,1,n) \cong G(r,1,p,n)$. We also classify which groups $G(r,p,q,n)$ have generalized involution models when $n=2$, or $q$ is odd, or $n$ is odd.
