Abstract:Harmonic and polyanalytic functional calculi have been recently defined for bounded commuting operators. Their definitions are based on the Cauchy formula of slice hyperholomorphic functions and on the factorization of the Laplace operator in terms of the Cauchy-Fueter operator $\mathcal{D}$ and of its conjugate $\overline{\mathcal{D}}$. Thanks to the Fueter extension theorem when we apply the operator $\mathcal{D}$ to slice hyperholomorphic functions we obtain harmonic functions and via the Cauchy formula of slice hyperholomorphic functions we establish an integral representation for harmonic functions. This integral formula is used to define the harmonic functional calculus on the $S$-spectrum. Another possibility is to apply the conjugate of the Cauchy-Fueter operator to slice hyperholomorphic functions. In this case, with a similar procedure we obtain the class of polyanalytic functions, their integral representation and the associated polyanalytic functional calculus. The aim of this paper is to extend the harmonic and the polyanalytic functional calculi to the case of unbounded operators and to prove some of the most important properties. These two functional calculi belong to so called fine structures on the $S$-spectrum in the quaternionic setting. Fine structures on the $S$-spectrum associated with Clifford algebras constitute a new research area that deeply connects different research fields such as operator theory, harmonic analysis and hypercomplex analysis.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of functional extension of a set XX, by means of two natural algebraic properties of the operator “∗*” on unary functions. We study the connections with ultrapowers of structures with universe XX, and we give a simple characterization of those functional extensions that correspond to limit ultrapower extensions. In particular we obtain a purely algebraic proof of Keisler’s characterization of nonstandard (= complete elementary) extensions.

Abstract:A new characterization of maximal accretive extensions of accretive operators is presented. It is based on expanded spaces of the abstract boundary spaces developed by R.S. Phillips, and is therefore called the expanded Phillips theory. In particular, when the operator is symmetric, a concrete realization of the expanded spaces is given. In applications of the expanded Phillips theory to ordinary differential equations, we characterize all maximal accretive extensions of singular symmetric ordinary differential operators of order 2n.
Sharp functional calculus for the Taibleson operator on non-archimedean local fields

Abstract:For any non-archimedean local field $\mathbb{K}$ and any integer $n \geq 1$, we show that the Taibleson operator admits a bounded $H^\infty(\Sigma\_\theta)$ functional calculus for any angle $\theta \> 0$ on the Banach space $L^p(\mathbb{K}^n)$, where $\Sigma\_\theta=\{ z \in \mathbb{C}^*: |\arg z| \< \theta \}$ and $1 \< p \< \infty$, and even a bounded H\''ormander functional calculus of order $\frac{3}{2}$ (with striking contrast to the Euclidean Laplacian on $\R^n$). In our study, we explore harmonic analysis on locally compact Spector-Vilenkin groups establishing the $R$-boundedness of a family of convolution operators. Our results enhance the understanding of functional calculi of operators acting on $L^p$-spaces associated to totally disconnected spaces and have implications for the maximal regularity of the fundamental evolution equations associated to the Taibleson operator, relevant in various physical models.

Abstract:A calculus of sequences started by professor morgan ward constitutes the general scheme for extensions of classical operator calculus of the distinguished gian carlo rota considered by many afterwards and after ward morgan. Because of the historically now established notation we call the wardian calculus of sequences in its afterwards elaborated form a psi calculus. The psi calculus in parts appears to be almost automatic, natural extension of classical operator calculus or equivalently of umbral calculus . This is a review article based on the turn of the centuries author relevant contributions.
The $H^\infty$-functional calculus for bisectorial Clifford operators

Abstract:The aim of this article is to introduce the H-infinity functional calculus for unbounded bisectorial operators in a Clifford module over the algebra R_n. While recent studies have focused on bounded operators or unbounded paravector operators, we now investigate unbounded fully Clifford operators and define polynomially growing functions of them. We first generate the omega-functional calculus for functions that exhibit an appropriate decay at zero and at infinity. We then extend to functions with a finite value at zero and at infinity. Finally, using a subsequent regularization procedure, we can define the H-infinity functional calculus for the class of regularizable functions, which in particular include functions with polynomial growth at infinity and, if T is injective, also functions with polynomial growth at zero.

Abstract:The tensor product of two holomorphic discrete series representations of $SU(1,1)$ can be decomposed as a direct sum of infinitely many discrete series. I shall introduce equivariant quantum channels for each component of the direct sum, mapping bounded operators on one factor of the tensor product to operators on the component. Next I prove a limit formula for the trace of the functional calculus and I prove that the limit can be expressed using generalized Husimi functions or using Berezin transforms.

Abstract:Let $A$ and $B$ be two densely defined unbounded closeable operators in a Hilbert space such that their unbounded operator products $AB$ and $BA$ are also densely defined. Then all four operators possess adjoints and we obtain new inclusion bounds for the operator product closures $\bar{A} \bar{B}$ and $\bar{AB}$ in terms of new relations among the operator adjoints. These in turn lead to sharpened understandings for when products of unbounded self-adjoint and unbounded normal operators are self-adjoint and normal. They also clarify certain operator-product issues for Dirac operators.

Abstract:Let $H^\infty$ denote the Banach algebra of all bounded analytic functions on the open unit disc and denote by $\mathscr{B}(H^\infty)$ the Banach space of all bounded linear operators from $H^\infty$ to itself. We prove that the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property holds for $\mathscr{B}(H^\infty)$. As an application to our approach, we prove that the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property also holds for operator ideals of $\mathscr{B}(H^\infty)$.

Divided Differences and Multivariate Holomorphic Calculus

Abstract:We review the multivariate holomorphic functional calculus for tuples in a commutative Banach algebra and establish a simple "naïve" extension to commuting tuples in a general Banach algebra. The approach is naïve in the sense that the naïvely defined joint spectrum maybe too big. The advantage of the approach is that the functional calculus then is given by a simple concrete formula from which all its continuity properties can easily be derived. We apply this framework to multivariate functions arising as divided differences of a univariate function. This provides a rich set of examples to which our naïve calculus applies. Foremost, we offer a natural and straightforward proof of the Connes-Moscovici Rearrangement Lemma in the context of the multivariate holomorphic functional calculus. Secondly, we show that the Daletski-Krein type noncommutative Taylor expansion is a natural consequence of our calculus. Also Magnus' Theorem which gives a nonlinear differential equation for the $\log$ of the solutions to a linear matrix ODE follows naturally and easily from our calculus. Finally, we collect various combinatorial related formulas.

Abstract:We push the definition of multiple operator integrals (MOIs) into the realm of unbounded operators, using the pseudodifferential calculus from the works of Connes and Moscovici, Higson, and Guillemin. This in particular provides a natural language for operator integrals in noncommutative geometry. For this purpose, we develop a functional calculus for these pseudodifferential operators. To illustrate the power of this framework, we provide a pertubative expansion of the spectral action for regular $s$-summable spectral triples $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{H}, D)$, and an asymptotic expansion of $\mathrm{Tr}(P e^{-t(D+V)^2})$ as $t \downarrow 0$, where $P$ and $V$ belong to the algebra generated by $\mathcal{A}$ and $D$, and $V$ is bounded and self-adjoint.

Abstract:In (Aiena et al., Math. Proc. R. Irish Acad. 122A(2):101–116, 2022), it has been shown that a bounded linear operator , defined on an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space X , for which there exists an injective quasi-nilpotent operator that commutes with it, has a very special structure of the spectrum. In this paper, we show that we have much more: if a such quasi-nilpotent operator does exist, then some of the spectra of T originating from B -Fredholm theory coalesce. Further, the spectral mapping theorem holds for all the B -Weyl spectra. Finally, the generalized version of Weyl type theorems hold for T assuming that T is of polaroid type. Our results apply to the operators that belong to the commutant of Volterra operators.

Abstract:The evolution of mixed states of a closed quantum system is described by a group of evolution superoperators whose infinitesimal generator (the quantum Liouville superoperator, or Liouvillian) determines the mixed-state counterpart of the Schrödinger equation: the Liouville-von Neumann equation. When the state space of the system is infinite-dimensional, the Liouville superoperator is unbounded whenever the corresponding Hamiltonian is. In this paper, we provide a rigorous, pedagogically-oriented, and self-contained introduction to the quantum Liouville formalism in the presence of unbounded operators. We present and discuss a characterization of the domain of the Liouville superoperator originally due to M. Courbage; starting from that, we develop some simpler characterizations of the domain of the Liouvillian and its square. We also provide, with explicit proofs, some domains of essential self-adjointness (cores) of the Liouvillian.

Abstract:In this paper, we utilize various integral representations derived from the Fueter-Sce extension theorem, to introduce novel functional calculi tailored for quaternionic operators of sectorial type. Specifically, due to the different factorizations of the Laplace opertor with respect to the Cauchy-Fueter operator and its conjugate, we identify four distinct classes of functions: Slice hyperholomorphic functions (leading to the $S$-functional calculus), axially harmonic functions (leading to the $Q$-functional calculus), axially polyanalytic functions of order $2$ (leading to the $P_2$-functional calculus), and axially monogenic functions (leading to the $F$-functional calculus). By applying the respective product rule, we establish the four different $H^\infty$-versions of these functional calculi.

Abstract:Considering the deeper reasons of the appearance of a remarkable counterexample by Kaad and Skeide (J Operat Theory 89(2):343–348, 2023) we consider situations in which two Hilbert C*-modules with over a fixed C*-algebra A of coefficients cannot be separated by a non-trivial bounded A -linear functional vanishing on M . In other words, the uniqueness of extensions of the zero functional from M to N is focussed. We show this uniqueness of extension for any such pairs of Hilbert C*-modules over W*-algebras, over monotone complete C*-algebras and over compact C*-algebras. Moreover, uniqueness of extension takes place also for any one-sided maximal modular ideal of any C*-algebra. Such a non-zero separating bounded A -linear functional exist for a given pair of full Hilbert C*-modules over a given C*-algebra A iff there exists a bounded A -linear non-adjointable operator , such that the kernel of is not biorthogonally closed w.r.t. N and contains M . This is a new perspective on properties of bounded modular operators that might appear in Hilbert C*-module theory. By the way, we find a correct proof of Lemma 2.4 of Frank (Int J Math 13:1–19, 2002) in the case of monotone complete and compact C*-algebras, but find it not valid in certain particular cases.

An exotic calculus of Berezin-Toeplitz operators

Abstract:We develop a calculus of Berezin-Toeplitz operators quantizing exotic classes of smooth functions on compact Kähler manifolds and acting on holomorphic sections of powers of positive line bundles. These functions (classical observables) are exotic in the sense that their derivatives are allowed to grow in ways controlled by local geometry and the power of the line bundle. The properties of this quantization are obtained via careful analysis of the kernels of the operators using Melin and Sjöstrand's method of complex stationary phase. We obtain a functional calculus result, a trace formula, and a parametrix construction for this larger class of functions. These results are crucially used in proving a probabilistic Weyl-law for randomly perturbed (standard) Berezin-Toeplitz operators.
