Abstract:Based on the chiral quantization, we develop a nonperturbative method for nonlocal conserved currents for Toda-type integrable systems. The sine-Gordon model and the ZMS model are dealt with uniformly in this scheme, just as these two models are treated in the perturbed CFT framework. Although there only exist two nonlocal conserved charges, this scheme can provide all the useful data of physics concerned, e.g., the braiding relations, the spectra-dependent S-matrices of the solitons, etc.
2d Sigma Models on Non-compact Calabi-Yau and ${\mathcal N}=2$ Liouville Theory

Abstract:We consider a class of two dimensional conformal ${\mathcal N}=2$ supersymmetric $U(1)$ gauge linear sigma models with $N$ fields of charges $+1$ and $N$ fields of charges $-1$, whose Higgs branches are non-compact toric Calabi-Yau manifolds of complex dimension $2N-1$. We show, starting from large-$N$ approximation, that the Coulomb branch of these models, which opens up at strong coupling, is described by ${\mathcal N}=2$ Liouville theory and then extrapolate it to exact equivalence demanding the central charge of the Liouville theory to be $\hat{c}=2N-1$. Next we concentrate on $N=2$ (which is physically mostly attractive case) and $N\geq 3$ cases and find there a perfect agreement of the set of complex moduli on the Calabi-Yau side with the marginal deformations in ${\mathcal N}=2$ Liouville theory, supporting proposed exact equivalence.

Abstract:We generalize the auxiliary field deformations of the principal chiral model (PCM) introduced in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2405.05899" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.05899">arXiv:2405.05899</a> and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2407.16338" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2407.16338">arXiv:2407.16338</a> to sigma models whose target manifolds are symmetric or semi-symmetric spaces, including a Wess-Zumino term in the latter case. This gives rise to a new infinite family of classically integrable $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and $\mathbb{Z}_4$ coset models of the form which are of interest in applications of integrability to worldsheet string theory and holography. We demonstrate that every theory in this infinite class admits a zero-curvature representation for its equations of motion by exhibiting a Lax connection.

Integrable Higher-Spin Deformations of Sigma Models from Auxiliary Fields

Abstract:We construct a new infinite family of integrable deformations of the principal chiral model (PCM) parameterized by an interaction function of several variables, which extends the formalism of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2405.05899" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.05899">arXiv:2405.05899</a>, and includes deformations of the PCM by functions of both the stress tensor and higher-spin conserved currents. We show in detail that every model in this class admits a Lax representation for its equations of motion, and that the Poisson bracket of the Lax connection takes the Maillet form, establishing the existence of an infinite set of Poisson-commuting conserved charges. We argue that the non-Abelian T-dual of any model in this family is classically integrable, and that T-duality "commutes" with a general deformation in this class, in a sense which we make precise. Finally, we demonstrate that these higher-spin auxiliary field deformations can be extended to accommodate the addition of a Wess-Zumino term, and we exhibit the Lax connection in this case.

Abstract:We discuss various questions that emerge in connection with the Lie-algebraic deformation of the CP1 sigma model in two dimensions. First, we supersymmetrize the original model endowing it with the minimal N=(0,2) and extended N=(2,2) supersymmetries. Then we derive the general hypercurrent anomaly in both cases. In the latter case this anomaly is one-loop but is somewhat different from the standard expressions one can find in the literature because the target manifold is nonsymmetric. We also show how to introduce the twisted masses and the θ term, and study the Bogomol'nyi–Prasad–Sommerfield equation for instantons, in particular the value of the topological charge. Then we demonstrate that the second loop in the β function of the nonsupersymmetric Lie-algebraic sigma model is due to an infrared effect. To this end we use a supersymmetric regularization. We also conjecture that the above statement is valid for higher loops too, similar to the parallel phenomenon in four-dimensional N=1 super-Yang-Mills. Supersymmetric Grassmannian Sigma Models in Gross-Neveu Formalism

Abstract:We revisit the classical aspects of $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric sigma models with Hermitian symmetric target spaces, using the so-called Gross-Neveu (first-order GLSM) formalism. We reformulate these models for complex Grassmannians in terms of simple supersymmetric Lagrangians with polynomial interactions. For maximal isotropic Grassmannians we propose two types of equivalent Lagrangians, which make either supersymmetry or the geometry of target space manifest. These reformulations can be seen as current-current deformations of curved $\beta \gamma$ systems. The $\mathsf{CP}^{1}$ supersymmetric sigma model is our prototypical example.

An Infinite Family of Integrable Sigma Models Using Auxiliary Fields

Abstract:We introduce a class of sigma models in two spacetime dimensions which are parameterized by an interaction function of one real variable. In addition to the physical group-valued field $g$, these models include an auxiliary vector field $v_\alpha$ which mediates interactions in a prescribed way. We prove that every model in this family is weakly integrable, in the sense that the classical equations of motion are equivalent to flatness of a Lax connection for any value of a spectral parameter. We also show that these models are strongly integrable, in the sense that the Poisson bracket of the Lax connection takes the Maillet form, which guarantees the existence of an infinite set of conserved charges in involution. This class of theories includes the principal chiral model (PCM) and all deformations of the PCM by functions of the energy-momentum tensor, such as $T \overline{T}$ and root-$T \overline{T}$.

One-form symmetries and the 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ $A$-model: Topologically twisted indices and CS theories

Abstract:We study three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric Chern-Simons-matter gauge theories with a one-form symmetry in the $A$-model formalism on $\Sigma_g\times S^1$. We explicitly compute expectation values of topological line operators that implement the one-form symmetry. This allows us to compute the topologically twisted index on the closed Riemann surface $\Sigma_g$ for any real compact gauge group $G$ as long as the ground states are all bosonic. All computations are carried out in the effective $A$-model on $\Sigma_g$, whose $S^1$ ground states are the so-called Bethe vacua. We discuss how the 3d one-form symmetry acts on the Bethe vacua, and also how its 't Hooft anomaly constrains the vacuum structure. In the special case of the $SU(N)_K$ $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons theory, we obtain results for the $(SU(N)/\mathbb{Z}_r)^{\theta}_K$ $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons theories, for all non-anomalous $\mathbb{Z}_r \subseteq \mathbb{Z}_N$ subgroups of the centre of the gauge group, and with a $\mathbb{Z}_r$ $\theta$-angle turned on. In the special cases with $N$ even, $\frac{N}{r}$ odd and $\frac{K}{r}$ even, we find a mixed 't Hooft anomaly between gravity and the $\mathbb{Z}_r^{(1)}$ one-form symmetry of the $SU(N)_K$ theory, and the infrared 3d TQFT after gauging is spin. In all cases, we count the Bethe states and the higher-genus states in terms of refinements of Jordan's totient function. This counting gives us the twisted indices if and only if the infrared 3d TQFT is bosonic. Our results lead to precise conjectures about integrality of indices, which appear to have a strong number-theoretic flavour. Note: this paper directly builds upon unpublished notes by Brian Willett from 2020.

Abstract:Integral formulae for form factors of a large family of charged local operators in SU(2) invariant Thirring model are given extending Smirnov's construction of form factors of chargeless local operators in the sine-Gordon model. New abelian symmetry acting on this family of local operators is found. It creates Lukyanov's operators which are not in the above family of local operators in general.

Non-BPS exact solutions and their relation to bions in ${\mathbb C}P^{N-1}$ models

Abstract:We investigate non-BPS exact solutions in ${\mathbb C}P^{N-1}$ sigma models on ${\mathbb R}^1 \times S^{1}$ with twisted boundary conditions, by using the Din-Zakrzewski projection method. We focus on the relation of the non-BPS solutions to the ansatz of multi-instanton (bion) configurations and discuss their significance in the context of the resurgence theory. We find that the transition between seemingly distinct configurations of multi-instantons occur as moduli changes in the non-BPS solutions, and the simplest non-BPS exact solution corresponds to multi-bion configurations with fully-compressed double fractional instantons in the middle. It indicates that the non-BPS solutions make small but nonzero contribution to the resurgent trans-series as special cases of the multi-bion configurations. We observe a generic pattern of transitions between distinct multi-bion configurations (flipping partners), leading to the three essential properties of the non-BPS exact solution: (i) opposite sign for terms corresponding to the left and right infinities, (ii) symmetric location of fractional instantons, and (iii) the transition between distinct bion configurations. By studying the balance of forces, we show that the relative phases between the instanton constituents play decisive roles in stability and instability of the muli-instanton configurations. We discuss local and global instabilities of the solutions such as negative modes and the flow to the other saddle points, by considering the deformations of the non-BPS exact solutions within our multi-instanton ansatz. We also briefly discuss some classes of the non-BPS exact solutions in Grassmann sigma models.

Abstract:In the free □k scalar conformal field theory, there exist conserved and partially conserved higher-spin currents. We study their anomalous dimensions associated with φ2n interaction in the ε expansion. We derive general formulas for the leading corrections from the conformal multiplet recombination, and verify their consistency with crossing symmetry using the Lorentzian inversion formula. On Formulating the Non-Geometric Scalar Potentials

Abstract:In the context of four-dimensional type II supergravities, the successive application of various S/T-dualities leads to a generalized notion of fluxes, which includes certain (non-)geometric fluxes along with the standard RR and NS-NS p-form fluxes. These fluxes induce a diverse set of superpotential couplings leading to scalar potentials with a very rich structure, which may possibly result in a vast landscape of physical vacua. However such scalar potentials typically consist of a huge number of terms and in order to make any attempt for phenomenological model building with some analytic understanding/control it is necessary to formulate them in some compact and concise form. Along these lines we review various equivalent methods of deriving the same scalar potential through a set of master formulae, which may open up a new avenue for model building using non-geometric fluxes.

Quantizing a Non-locally Massive 2-form Model

Abstract:A non-local yet gauge-invariantly massive 2-form model is considered that leads to local and unitary dynamics upon proper gauge-fixing. Since canonical momenta cannot be defined owing to the non-locality, consistent quantization of this system warrants particular care. We construct the Dirac brackets and covariant commutators for this model, followed by its path integral quantization, leading to consistent results. These treatments underline the most efficient way to extract the physical modes and the subsequent spectrum free from infrared ambiguity. Physically the massive 2-form represents a spin-1 excitation, with potential application to string theory and cosmology, that can mediate a screened interaction when topologically coupled to fermions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study two-loop contribution to the effective action of a two-dimensional sigma model. We derive a new formula, which can be applicable to a regularization of general type. As examples, we obtain known results for dimensional regularization and investigate new types of cutoff one. Also, we discuss non-local contributions and restrictions on the regularization.
