Abstract:Low-temperature synthesis of photoanode on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass is a challenge due to the low temperature stability of ITO, and low-cost preparation of high-performance photoanode technology is a key factor in achieving large-area photoelectric conversion water splitting. In this work, a highly efficient BiVO4 (BVO) photoanode was grown on ITO glass at low-temperature by the sol-gel spin coating method. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the photovoltaic-enhanced photoelectrochemical performance of BVO photoanodes with different thicknesses. Pure BVO photoanode, enriched with nanostructures, exhibits a current density of 2.25 mA/cm2 (1.23 V vs RHE) under AM-1.5G illumination. The photovoltaic effect induces a continual oxygen evolution reaction at zero bias voltage on the photoanode, resulting in a photocurrent density of 0.04 mA/cm2 at zero bias. This work not only considers the possibility of large-scale manufacturing of photoanode from a cost perspective, but also offers the potential for photovoltaic-enhanced water splitting properties of BVO photoanode.
