Abstract:We prove a version of Hall's Harem Theorem where the matching realizes a function with some special properties of its cycles. Using this approach we also prove a new computable version of Hall's Harem theorem. We apply it to non-amenable computable coarse spaces.

Abstract:In the present paper we prove that Hall polynomial exists for each triple of decomposition sequences which parameterize isomorphism classes of coherent sheaves of a domestic weighted projective line X over finite fields. These polynomials are then used to define the generic Ringel–Hall algebra of X as well as its Drinfeld double. Combining this construction with a result of Cramer, we show that Hall polynomials exist for tame quivers, which not only refines a result of Hubery, but also confirms a conjecture of Berenstein and Greenstein.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Bismut–Zhang, which extends the Cheeger–Müller theorem on Ray–Singer torsion and Reidemeister torsion, to the case of infinite Galois covering spaces. Our result is stated in the framework of extended cohomology, and generalizes in this case a recent result of Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai. It does not use the determinant class condition and thus also (potentially) generalizes several results on L2-torsions due to Burghelea, Friedlander, Kappeler and McDonald. We combine the framework developed by Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai on the determinant of extended cohomology with the heat kernel method developed in the original paper of Bismut–Zhang to prove our result.

Abstract:We introduce a geometric generalization of Hall's marriage theorem. For any family $F = \{X_1, \dots, X_m\}$ of finite sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$, we give conditions under which it is possible to choose a point $x_i\in X_i$ for every $1\leq i \leq m$ in such a way that the points $\{x_1,...,x_m\}\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ are in general position. We give two proofs, one elementary proof requiring slightly stronger conditions, and one proof using topological techniques in the spirit of Aharoni and Haxell's celebrated generalization of Hall's theorem.

Abstract:We provide a detailed study of two properties of spaces and pairs of spaces, the surjection property and the epsilon-surjection property, that were recently introduced to characterize the notion of computable type arising from computability theory. For a class of spaces including the finite simplicial complexes, we develop techniques to prove or disprove these properties using homotopy and homology theories, and give applications of these results. In particular, we answer an open question on the computable type property, showing that it is not preserved by taking products. We also observe that computable type is decidable for finite simplicial complexes.

Computational Synthetic Cohomology Theory in Homotopy Type Theory

Abstract:This paper discusses the development of synthetic cohomology in Homotopy Type Theory (HoTT), as well as its computer formalisation. The objectives of this paper are (1) to generalise previous work on integral cohomology in HoTT by the current authors and Brunerie (2022) to cohomology with arbitrary coefficients and (2) to provide the mathematical details of, as well as extend, results underpinning the computer formalisation of cohomology rings by the current authors and Lamiaux (2023). With respect to objective (1), we provide new direct definitions of the cohomology group operations and of the cup product, which, just as in (Brunerie et al., 2022), enable significant simplifications of many earlier proofs in synthetic cohomology theory. In particular, the new definition of the cup product allows us to give the first complete formalisation of the axioms needed to turn the cohomology groups into a graded commutative ring. We also establish that this cohomology theory satisfies the HoTT formulation of the Eilenberg-Steenrod axioms for cohomology and study the classical Mayer-Vietoris and Gysin sequences. With respect to objective (2), we characterise the cohomology groups and rings of various spaces, including the spheres, torus, Klein bottle, real/complex projective planes, and infinite real projective space. All results have been formalised in Cubical Agda and we obtain multiple new numbers, similar to the famous `Brunerie number', which can be used as benchmarks for computational implementations of HoTT. Some of these numbers are infeasible to compute in Cubical Agda and hence provide new computational challenges and open problems which are much easier to define than the original Brunerie number.

Abstract:We consider a set-valued mapping on a simple graph and ask for the existence of a disparate selection. The term disparate is defined in the paper and we present a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of a disparate selection. This approach generalizes the classical marriage theorem of Hall. We define the disparate kernel of the set-valued mapping and provide calculation methods for the disparate kernel and a disparate selection. Our main theorem is applied to a result of Ryser on the completion of partially prepopulated Latin squares and we derive Hall's marriage theorem.

On the Circuit Diameter Conjecture for Counterexamples to the Hirsch Conjecture

Abstract:Circuit diameters of polyhedra are a fundamental tool for studying the complexity of circuit augmentation schemes for linear programming and for finding lower bounds on combinatorial diameters. The main open problem in this area is the circuit diameter conjecture, the analogue of the Hirsch conjecture in the circuit setting. A natural question is whether the well-known counterexamples to the Hirsch conjecture carry over. Previously, Stephen and Yusun showed that the Klee-Walkup counterexample to the unbounded Hirsch conjecture does not transfer to the circuit setting. Our main contribution is to show that the original counterexamples for the other variants, for bounded polytopes and using monotone walks, also do not transfer. Our results rely on new observations on structural properties of these counterexamples. To resolve the bounded case, we exploit the geometry of certain $2$-faces of the polytopes underlying all known bounded Hirsch counterexamples in Santos' work. For Todd's monotone Hirsch counterexample, we provide two alternative approaches. The first one uses sign-compatible circuit walks, and the second one uses the observation that Todd's polytope is anti-blocking. Along the way, we enumerate all linear programs over the polytope and find four new orientations that contradict the monotone Hirsch conjecture, while the remaining $7107$ satisfy the bound.

Abstract:The paper contains a rigorous proof of existence of symbolic dynamics chaos in the generalized Hénon map's 4th iterate $H^4$, which was conjectured in the paper \textit{A 3D Smale Horseshoe in a Hyperchaotic Discrete-Time System} of Li and Yang, 2007. We prove also the uniform hyperbolicity of the invariant set with symbolic dynamics. The proofs are computer-assisted with the use of C++ library \textit{CAPD} for interval arithmetic, differentiation and integration.

Abstract:We use a classifying space construction by Sz\H{u}cs and Terpai to extend Salomonsen's exact sequence from cobordism groups of immersions to cobordism groups of hyperplane projections of immersions with prescribed singularities. We apply this to obtain results on these cobordism groups in small and large codimensional cases.

Abstract:The Ginsburg--Sands theorem from topology states that every infinite topological space has an infinite subspace homeomorphic to exactly one of the following five topologies on $\omega$: indiscrete, discrete, initial segment, final segment, and cofinite. The original proof is nonconstructive, and features an interesting application of Ramsey's theorem for pairs ($\mathsf{RT}^2_2$). We analyze this principle in computability theory and reverse mathematics, using Dorais's formalization of CSC spaces. Among our results are that the Ginsburg-Sands theorem for CSC spaces is equivalent to $\mathsf{ACA}_0$, while for Hausdorff spaces it is provable in $\mathsf{RCA}_0$. Furthermore, if we enrich a CSC space by adding the closure operator on points, then the Ginsburg-Sands theorem turns out to be equivalent to the chain/antichain principle ($\mathsf{CAC}$). The most surprising case is that of the Ginsburg-Sands theorem restricted to $T_1$ spaces. Here, we show that the principle lies strictly between $\mathsf{ACA}_0$ and $\mathsf{RT}^2_2$, yielding arguably the first natural theorem from outside logic to occupy this interval. As part of our analysis of the $T_1$ case we introduce a new class of purely combinatorial principles below $\mathsf{ACA}_0$ and not implied by $\mathsf{RT}^2_2$ which form a strict hierarchy generalizing the stable Ramsey's theorem for pairs ($\mathsf{SRT}^2_2$). We show that one of these, the $\Sigma^0_2$ subset principle ($\Sigma^0_2$-$\mathsf{Subset}$), has the property that it, together with the cohesive principle ($\mathsf{COH}$), is equivalent over $\mathsf{RCA}_0$ to the Ginsburg--Sands theorem for $T_1$ CSC spaces.

Abstract:We give a practical computer algebra implementation of the Covering Lemma for finite transformation semigroups. The lemma states that given a surjective relational morphism $(X,S)\twoheadrightarrow(Y,T)$, we can establish emulation by a cascade product (subsemigroup of the wreath product): $(X,S)\hookrightarrow (Y,T)\wr (Z,U)$. The dependent component $(Z,U)$ contains the kernel of the morphism, the information lost in the map.

Abstract:In their study of coarse entropy, W. Geller and M. Misiurewicz introduced the notion of coarse conjugacy: a version of conjugacy appropriate for dynamics on metric spaces observed from afar. They made two conjectures on coarse conjugacy generalising their results. We disprove both of these conjectures. We investigate the impact of extra assumptions on the validity of the conjectures: We show that the result of Geller and Misiurewicz towards one of the conjectures can be considered optimal, and we prove the other conjecture under an assumption complementary to that from the referenced work.

Abstract:In a graph $G$, the $2$-neighborhood of a vertex set $X$ consists of all vertices of $G$ having at least $2$ neighbors in $X$. We say that a bipartite graph $G(A,B)$ satisfies the double Hall property if $|A|\geq2$, and every subset $X \subseteq A$ of size at least $2$ has a $2$-neighborhood of size at least $|X|$. Salia conjectured that any bipartite graph $G(A,B)$ satisfying the double Hall property contains a cycle covering $A$. Here, we prove the existence of a $2$-factor covering $A$ in any bipartite graph $G(A,B)$ satisfying the double Hall property. We also show Salia's conjecture for graphs with restricted degrees of vertices in $B$. Additionally, we prove a lower bound on the number of edges in a graph satisfying the double Hall property, and the bound is sharp up to a constant factor.
