Abstract:Reading promotion is a key service of the public library. This article investigates the current state of reading promotion in public libraries in China. There were 86 public libraries chosen as a sample. The research finds that Chinese libraries have been paying more and more attention to the importance of reading promotion. A variety of reading promotion services and programs are being carried out, including reading festivals, booklists, reading contests, reading communication and lectures on reading. Public libraries tend to apply more towards the digital platform when promoting reading. Public libraries have cooperated with NGO and business fields to promote reading. This study suggests more can be done to improve the service, including improving the librarian's knowledge of genre books, enhancing reading communication, deeply investigating measurement of reading promotion, and the influence of contracting out reading programs.

Abstract:This study aims to present the teachers’ view on making picture book reading a part of the teaching process in kindergarten, and how picture books were used to interact with children in purposeful activities. Quantitative and qualitative methods are combined to determine the current situation of using picture books and the effectiveness of organizing picture book reading activities for children in preschool. Research results show that most preschool teachers rate picture books as suitable learning materials to use in children's education programs. Children have positive reactions and express personal reasoning after interacting with picture books. However, teachers still have difficulty in classifying books suitable for children in each activity. Organizational forms and methods have not exploited optimally the value of picture books in developing necessary skills for preschool children.

Exploring Innovative Mode and Path of Children’s Reading Promotion in Public Library: A Case Study of Rui’an Library’s “Little Bees Collecting Book Honey” Project

Abstract:Based on the research of children’s reading promotion, Rui’an City Library explored the innovative “Little Bee Collecting Book Honey” reading promotion activities. Under the leadership of the library, the community, schools, and the whole society integrated resources to create a “four-in-one”, “three-pronged” and “two paths” new reading model. Through multi-dimensional interactions and division of labor, a benign reading loop was created. This paper shares and analyzes the implementation process and effects of the exploration, and discusses the problems of children’s reading in the hope of providing reference for the innovation model of children reading promotion in public libraries.

Abstract:: Preschool children in special education schools are special children with different degrees of physical and psychological barriers. It is difficult to teach and guide them in reading. To a certain extent, it can meet the specific needs of special children. From the initial isolated educational institutions to the current integrated schools, they are educational placement institutions that continue to explore for special children. The successful application of picture books in general education makes educators begin to think about its positive significance for the education and rehabilitation of special children. Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, picture book reading is widely used in education and teaching, assisting classroom teaching and compensating the physiological defects of deaf and mentally retarded students. Give play to the characteristics of deaf students' perception and understanding of external things with eyes instead of ears, and develop the perceptual function and abstract thinking ability of mentally retarded students. Picture book is a kind of children's literature style with pictures and texts. It vividly and intuitively reflects some people, things and things in real life, and has a strong flavor of life. Looking at Chinese special education journals, there are few studies on discipline teaching in special education schools, and the research perspectives are relatively micro. This paper mainly aims at special education schools and analyzes the teaching strategies of picture book reading.

Abstract:Children’s picture books are the first books that children come into contact with. They are an important carrier for children to contact and perceive the outside world and are essential for children to form subconscious and basic cognition of the world. Because of the particularity of picture books’ audience, picture books must be specially processed before they can be recognized by children and parents, and as children’s enlightening reading materials, their cultural attributes cannot be ignored. Compared with foreign countries, picture books in China started late, drawing lessons from and imitating western picture books to a certain extent, which led to the shadow of western culture in picture book materials, which was not conducive to children’s cognition and recognition of Chinese traditional culture, and even more detrimental to their cultural confidence. As future preschool educators, preschool education majors are the first teachers of children’s culture and life and also users of children’s picture books. Therefore, it is of practical significance for preschool education majors to know and understand children’s picture books. Firstly, this paper points out the significance and main methods of studying children’s picture books and summarizes the development status of picture books at home and abroad. Secondly, it expounds the important functions of children’s picture books, explores the characteristics of children’s psychology and behavior, and explores the development direction and related theories of children’s picture books. Finally, from the perspective of preschool education majors, we understand the educational value of children’s picture books that the design of picture books should meet the needs of children and point out that children’s picture books are the enlightenment education of Chinese culture and revolutionary spirit. This paper discusses the related understanding of children’s picture books from the perspective of preschool education majors and expounds the significance of children’s picture books for children’s enlightenment education from the aspects of picture book development, picture book function, education and enlightenment value, etc., to carry out theoretical research for the development of picture books in China and help the brand and product development of picture books.

Abstract:The narrative function of children’s picture books connects the exquisite, meaningful and colorful paintings with easy and imaginative words. A teaching process, which is called the circulation process, happens when teachers and children are reading the pictures and words repeatedly. This process involves four stages: lead-in, telling the story, retelling the story and utilizing the retold story. Teacher may understand children’s knowledge, cognitive features as well as nature of picture books and paintings effectively. Then the vivid illustration of story line encourages children to think from others’ views and communicate with different people in the world. In such a way, we aim to establish a brand new teaching culture consisted of national memory and traditional Chinese culture elements.

Abstract:With increasing globalization, global English and its association with literacy worldwide have gained widespread attention. Following the law of language learning, more and more countries are making efforts to help their citizens become literate in English from their early years. Picture books have played a crucial part in developing children’s emergent literacy skills. They provide children with fascinating illustrations, advancement in vocabularies, and meaningful sentence structures that go beyond the present contexts. However, picture book reading can be difficult for young English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners due to the lack of English-speaking environment and language accumulation. With regard to this situation, this article analyzes and discusses the common debates on the print concept, phonological awareness, and vocabularies within an EFL early picture book reading setting to shed light on the practical direction in this field. Following this, this article coins relevant supporting strategies to ensure effective English picture book reading among children by developing supplementary activities, encouraging parent-child interaction, and applying multimedia materials. This article ends with a brief conclusion and questions that may need further exploration and research.
Investigation on the Current Teaching Situation of English Picture Books for Preschool Children in Zhoushan and Its Commercial Prospects

Abstract:In recent years, Chinese parents are paying more and more attention to children's English education, which plays a crucial role in their future development. English reading, as we all know, is a vital part in English learning process. English picture books attract many children with its beautiful picture, good visual sense and creative story. American library association defines picture books as books that provide children with visual experience. Unlike other books, children's picture books are illustrated and use a series of pictures to describe a story, discuss a topic or illustrate a concept. English picture book reading is in line with children's cognitive characteristics, and has a great influence on children's language interest, observation ability, imagination and creativity. However, due to the lack of understanding of English picture books by most parents, though children have a strong interest in English learning, they cannot be well enlightened, which is not conducive to their future English learning. Investigating the teaching situation of preschool children's English picture books in Zhoushan, analyzing the current situation of Zhoushan children's English picture books learning, and putting forward some corresponding suggestions are important steps to improve children's English understanding.

Abstract:Purpose: The objective of this research is to enhance children's enthusiasm for reading and improve their literacy abilities by introducing innovative forms of children's literacy media, such as picture books. The researchers created a visual publication specifically designed for sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Pandeyan. The purpose of this book is to inspire and engage youngsters, ultimately fostering a greater enthusiasm for reading and addressing the issue of early literacy challenges. Method: The research employed a qualitative methodology. The activity is structured into three distinct stages: (1) preparation, involving observations and interviews; (2) implementation, which includes creating picture books, promoting children's literature and picture books, and engaging in group reading sessions; and (3) evaluation, which entails self-reflection and assessing the performance of the service program. Practical Applications: Seventeen grade VI children at SD Negeri 2 Pandeyan strongly valued picture books as a form of non-academic reading. Schools should maintain children's literature, particularly picture books, by offering non-academic reading resources to foster a greater interest in reading. Conclusion: Therefore, the specific early literacy crisis in Pandeyan Village can be mitigated. It is crucial to foster children's interest in reading at a young age in order to cultivate their literacy skills, which will then be sustained throughout their adult lives.
