Abstract:Associations have been shown between poor classroom indoor air quality (IAQ) and schoolchildren's risk of asthma, increased absenteeism, and impaired performance on standardized tests. Mechanically ventilated classrooms often lack an adequate fresh air supply. There is also concern that outdoor pollutants, particularly vehicle exhaust products, may penetrate classrooms. The purpose of this work was to characterize IAQ in elementary school classrooms and estimate average effective fresh air ventilation rates under cold, mild, and warm season conditions. IAQ measures were made in third-grade classrooms of 12 elementary schools. Particulate matter, CO2, CO, NO2, total VOCs, and formaldehyde concentrations, as well as relative humidity and temperature, were measured for 24-h periods in each season. Effective fresh air ventilation rates were estimated using a transient mass balance modeling approach. The schools measured had generally adequate temperature and humidity control, extremely low non-occupant related pollutants, and little to no incursion of outdoor vehicle-related pollutants. However, there was a lack of adequate fresh air ventilation in many cases. Ventilation adequacy varied within the schools across seasons but with no consistent pattern, perhaps reflecting variations in class size as well as seasonal demands on the HVAC systems and/or HVAC seasonal operating mode. Transient mass balance method effective fresh air ventilation estimates near or above ASHRAE-recommended fresh air ventilation rates for people-related pollutants corresponded well with good CO2 control in the classrooms.
Development of a Bayesian inference model for assessing ventilation condition based on CO2 meters in primary schools

Abstract:Outdoor fresh air ventilation plays a significant role in reducing airborne transmission of diseases in indoor spaces. School classrooms are considerably challenged during the COVID-19 pandemic because of the increasing need for in-person education, untimely and incompleted vaccinations, high occupancy density, and uncertain ventilation conditions. Many schools started to use CO2 meters to indicate air quality, but how to interpret the data remains unclear. Many uncertainties are also involved, including manual readings, student numbers and schedules, uncertain CO2 generation rates, and variable indoor and ambient conditions. This study proposed a Bayesian inference approach with sensitivity analysis to understand CO2 readings in four primary schools by identifying uncertainties and calibrating key parameters. The outdoor ventilation rate, CO2 generation rate, and occupancy level were identified as the top sensitive parameters for indoor CO2 levels. The occupancy schedule becomes critical when the CO2 data are limited, whereas a 15-min measurement interval could capture dynamic CO2 profiles well even without the occupancy information. Hourly CO2 recording should be avoided because it failed to capture peak values and overestimated the ventilation rates. For the four primary school rooms, the calibrated ventilation rate with a 95% confidence level for fall condition is 1.96±0.31 ACH for Room #1 (165 m3 and 20 occupancies) with mechanical ventilation, and for the rest of the naturally ventilated rooms, it is 0.40±0.08 ACH for Room #2 (236 m3 and 21 occupancies), 0.30±0.04 or 0.79±0.06 ACH depending on occupancy schedules for Room #3 (236 m3 and 19 occupancies), 0.40±0.32,0.48±0.37,0.72±0.39 ACH for Room #4 (231 m3 and 8-9 occupancies) for three consecutive days.
Robustness of point measurements of carbon dioxide concentration for the inference of ventilation rates in a wintertime classroom

Abstract:Indoor air quality in schools and classrooms is paramount for the health and well-being of pupils and staff. CO2 monitors offer a cost-effective way to assess and manage ventilation provision. However, often only a single point measurement is available which might not be representative of the CO2 distribution within the room. A relatively generic UK classroom in wintertime is simulated using CFD. The natural ventilation provision is driven by buoyancy through high- and low-level openings in both an opposite-ended or single-ended configuration, in which only the horizontal location of the high-level vent is modified. CO2 is modelled as a passive scalar and is shown not to be `well-mixed' within the space. Perhaps surprisingly, the single-ended configuration leads to a `more efficient' ventilation, with lower average CO2 concentration. Measurements taken near the walls, often the location of CO2 monitors, are compared with those made throughout the classroom and found to be more representative of the ventilation rate if made above the breathing zone. These findings are robust with respect to ventilation flow rates and to the flow patterns observed, which were tested by varying the effective vent areas and the ratio of the vent areas.

Comparative Analysis of CO2 Tracer Gas Methods for the Measurement of Air Change Rates in Student Dormitory Rooms with Open/closed Window Statuses

Abstract:The air change rate per hour (ACH), a key indicator of indoor air quality and building energy consumption, is measured by various CO2 tracer gas methods, including the build-up, steady-state, and decay methods. However, comparative and uncertainty analyses of these methods for ACH measurement under natural ventilation conditions are lacking. In this study, three CO2 tracer gas methods were applied to measure ACH in 49 dormitory rooms in Nanjing during the winter in 2018-2020. The contributions of indoor and outdoor CO2 concentrations, room volume, and human CO2 generation to the uncertainties of ACH measurements by different methods were analyzed. There were no significant differences in ACH among the build-up, steady-state, and decay methods when the human CO2 generation rate was calculated using the equation proposed by Qi et al. (2014). The mean relative standard uncertainties of the ACH determined by the build-up, steady-state, and decay methods were 68%, 38%, and 29%, respectively. The human CO2 generation rate was the largest contributor to uncertainty by the build-up and steady-state methods, whereas the outdoor CO2 concentration was the largest contributor by the decay method. The ACH under both closed and open window statuses collected from 81 and 85 dormitory rooms was lognormally distributed and ranged from 0.09 h-1 to 2.16 h-1 (mean: 0.46 h-1) and 0.45 h-1 to 16.28 h-1 (mean: 4.70 h-1), respectively. This study provides a basis for the selection of suitable methods to measure the ACH under natural ventilation.

Abstract:Although existing standards typically prescribe fixed ventilation rates, a large portion of the building stock lacks mechanical ventilation systems. Such buildings obtain outdoor air through unintentional infiltration, open windows, and the operation of exhaust fans, which are mainly dependent on user awareness and behavior. This study investigates whether the presence of a simple CO 2 meter display can alter user behavior and improve indoor air quality (IAQ) in dwellings. We conducted a two-week monitoring of CO 2 concentration, air temperature, and relative humidity in 60 student dwellings (bedrooms and living rooms) in Denmark and Switzerland. During the first week, the CO 2 display was concealed, and occupants adhered to their usual routines. In the second week, occupants used the display's visual feedback to enhance IAQ when necessary. Results revealed that over 95% of dwellings witnessed a reduction in median CO 2 levels during the second week, both overall and in individual rooms. Furthermore, a descriptive analysis of CO 2 concentration step changes exceeding the thresholds of "normal variation" showed an increase in the number of negative step changes, indicating a shift in user behavior. These findings underscore the efficacy ofa display interface providing information on the indoor environment in triggering behavior changes and improving IAQ in dwellings.

Abstract:Indoor air quality is a characteristic that depends on air pollutants inside a building and that can be affected by different ventilation strategies. There is strong evidence linking poor indoor air quality (IAQ) and harmful health effects, especially on vulnerable collectives, such as children in schools. Due to this concern, this work aims to provide guidance on the design of highly efficient ventilation strategies to improve the air quality of schools' classrooms. For this, IAQ monitoring has been carried out in eight educational in real conditions centres using CO2 concentration as an IAQ indicator. Variables such as the presence of students and their number, activity developed in the classroom and ventilation strategy used together with break time duration have been also recorded to analyse their influence on CO2 concentration levels. Concluding results have allowed us to determine the maximum number of students allowed in a closed room to maintain CO2 levels at normal concentrations and the time needed to reduce these CO2 levels depending on the ventilation strategy adopted. Moreover, it has been discussed how surrounding school conditions (pollution or noise) and the building isolation are impacting the final IAQ in the classrooms studied.

Abstract:Building Services Engineering Research and Technology, Ahead of Print. Indoor air quality and heating energy consumption are closely linked, especially in densely occupied spaces, as classrooms. In a classroom of Rennes University, a transient thermal simulation highlights the impact of ventilation on heating consumptions for different cases: (1) without controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV), (2) with a single flow CMV (SF CMV) of a regulatory flow of 18 m3.h−1. person−1 during periods of occupancy, and (3) a double flow CMV (DF CMV) whose flow is during periods of occupancy either equal to 18 m3.h−1. person−1 or (4) to 35 m3.h−1.person−1. The infiltration flowrate was evaluated experimentally using CO2 concentration measurements in the first case, which corresponds to the actual situation. In the normal use of the classroom with 30 persons inside, CO2 concentration exceeds 5000 ppm and the heating energy consumption is equal to 52 kWh.m−2.year−1. In case (2) and (3), CO2 concentration has a maximum level of 1350 ppm and the energy consumption is equal to 65 and 53 kWh.m−2.year−1, respectively. In case (4), the maximum CO2 concentration stays in the range 800-900 ppm without excessive heating consumption (58 kWh.m−2.year−1). Finally, by limiting the fresh air flowrate to 18 m3.h−1.person−1 in DF CMV and coupling it to a façade insulation (extra Case 5), the heating consumption is reduced to 32 kWh.m−2.year−1. These results are valuable within the context of the upcoming energy renovation strategy of the campus.Practical applicationIn most schools, in France and elsewhere, insufficient ventilation flowrates are often observed compared to regulatory requirements. If compliance with ventilation standards and the subsequent revision of CMV installations are necessary to ensure the health of users, it is important to evaluate the energy cost of these renovations, and to identify the best choice to reduce heating consumptions. Our contribution is to compare different renovation choices in terms of two indicators: energy consumption and indoor air quality evaluated using CO2 concentration.

Abstract:Indoor CO 2 concentration serves as an indicator of indoor air quality, which is mainly influenced by occupants' CO 2 generation rate, outdoor ventilation rate and outdoor CO 2 levels. Determining the CO 2 generation rate is fundamental to design effective ventilation systems that ensure good indoor air quality. The ASTM D6245 standard offers a method to estimate human CO 2 generation based on sex, age, body mass, and activity level. However, due to the limited number of studies on CO 2 generation rate for children and adolescents in daily scholarly activities, accurated values are difficult to estimate. This research uses a stochastic grey box modelling approach to estimate CO 2 generation rates in naturally ventilated schools and compares it with the standard approach. This method can address the complexities and variations in real educational environments. The proposed model was verified through an experimental campaign including 32 classrooms with students aged 4, 10, 13 and 16 years. The model provided a detailed description of the indoor CO 2 dynamics in 72% of the studied cases. Estimated CO 2 generation rates were found to be in line with the expected standard value of between 1.0 MET to 2.0 MET activity levels (7.07 to 12.65 L/h for a 4-year-old, 9.63 to 13.29 L/h for a 10-year-old, 14.54 to 19.32 L/h for a 13-year-old, and 12.11 to 20.53 L/h for a 16-year-old). These findings not only bridge the gap in children's CO 2 generation rates but also introduce a novel approach to assess human CO 2 generation rates under uncontrolled conditions.

Abstract:The school's indoor environment significantly affects students' health and learning performance. Although related studies have been carried out in many regions, only a few have examined indoor classroom environments and proposed the energy-saving optimization of heating and ventilation in winter in China's hot summer and cold winter areas. This study aims to comprehensively investigate classroom indoor environmental quality in China's hot summer and cold winter areas, and propose targeted optimization strategies. It first examined the indoor environment, including indoor air, acoustic, visual, and thermal quality, of two typical middle schools. The indoor CO2 concentration in winter was found to be unsatisfactory. Subsequently, how the indoor layout, outdoor wind and occupancy density influence indoor CO2 concentration was examined through simulation, which indicated that high occupancy density is the main cause. Finally, this study proposed several ventilation optimization strategies and performed an energy analysis to maintain sufficient air quality and a comfortable thermal environment in high-density classrooms. The results show that compared with the intermittent mode, the fixed ventilation and heating mode could maintain a more comfortable indoor environment and achieve a 30% energy saving. A reference for the improvement of classroom indoor environment in hot summer and cold winter areas was provided.
Low-cost sensor-based investigation of CO 2 and volatile organic compounds in classrooms: Exploring dynamics, ventilation effects and perceived air quality relations

Abstract:Poor classroom air quality (CAQ) can have negative impacts on student health, well-being and performance. Although CO 2 concentrations are the proxy most often applied when assessing classroom ventilation and air quality, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are important contributors to classroom air pollution. However, little is known about the sources and dynamics of VOCs in classrooms and its relation to classroom occupancy, ventilation and perceived air quality. In this study, CAQ was investigated in 75 Danish classrooms throughout November 2021 using low-cost sensors for continuous measurements of occupancy, CO 2 - and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) concentrations in conjunction with thermal desorption gas chromatography mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) analysis of organic compounds. Measurements show significant increases in TVOC concentrations during school hours as well as a day-to-day increase in the morning TVOC levels from insufficient ventilation from preceding days. A weak (r = 0.21) but significant (p < 0.01) correlation was found between classroom CO 2 and TVOC. However, unlike the CO 2 concentrations, TVOC concentrations were affected by episodic emissions from classroom activities. Ventilation type was identified as a key factor influencing both CO 2 - and TVOC levels. Although mechanically ventilated classrooms experienced significantly lower CO 2 - and TVOC levels compared to naturally ventilated classrooms, all classrooms exceeded guideline values of 1000 ppm CO 2 with 70% of the classrooms exceeding this more than half of the occupied time. In contrast to CO 2 , a positive correlation ( ρ = 0.35, p = 0.006) was identified between the median TVOC concentrations during occupancy and the reported perceived CAQ.

Abstract:Natural ventilation is an effective and economical way to decrease indoor volatile organic compound (VOC) concentration and it is widely used in residential buildings. The understanding of VOC concentration variation with different ventilation rate is essential to learn about the pollutant removal efficiency of natural ventilation. In this study, we simulated the VOC concentration from a single emission source in a room under different air changes per hour (ACH). The ACH=3 and ACH<1 were assumed to correspond to the ventilation rate of a residential unit when windows were opened or closed. Results indicated that the more air tightness of the building, the faster rising and higher level of VOC concentration after closing the windows. And if the windows were opened often, the VOC concentration could be lower and the time to close the windows could be prolonged.
Air change rate measurements using indoor/outdoor ratio of pm2.5

Abstract:According to past researches, most people spend 80%-90% of their time indoors. The ventilation is very important to people’s health and the comfortable surroundings around us. From the viewpoint of energy saving, mechanical ventilation will consume a large amount of additional energy. So variety of ways measuring natural ventilation is worth considering. In fact, in real life, many people tend to have their windows shut rather than open, and the reasons are complex. Some reasons are due to safety, maintaining a good thermal environment, harmful outdoor pollutants, shielding from outside noise etc. Thus, it is necessary to set an index of low ventilation rate, in order to simulate the situation of windows shut or slightly opened. The ACH is controlled between 0.5 and 1, by adjusting the window openings. As measurement technique, the constant injection method can be used to measure the infiltration rate of natural ventilation. One useful way is the dry ice method, in which dry ice in an insulated container is used as a constant injection of tracer gas. Apart from dry ice method, the PM2.5 is considered to be another kind of tracer gas. The main sources of PM2.5 come from burning of fossil fuels. If there are no indoor sources, e.g. smoking or wastecombustion, we can assume that there are no initial indoor sources of PM2.5, where all sources come from outdoors. Then the I/O ratio of PM2.5 can be used to determine different ventilation rates. In this study, the ACH from tracer gas method and I/O ratio of PM2.5 was compared. The relevance between ACH and I/O ratio will be verified through a specific equation to get further conclusion, through which we can get ACH directly by means of measuring I/O ratio of PM2.5.
Association of Indoor Temperature and Air Quality in Classrooms Based on Field and Intervention Measurements

Abstract:To investigate the variation of classroom environment during typical lecture hours, repeated field measurements and intervention experiments for indoor temperature were carried out in a typical class (95 min in duration, 0.32-0.39 person/m2 of occupants density) in a spring semester of a university in Beijing. Environmental data were recorded every 5 min, including indoor temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration. Additionally, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were sampled and indoor air quality (IAQ) were evaluated repeatedly. The results of field measurements showed the average air temperature in the classroom ranged from 21.2 +/- 0.8 degrees C to 26.8 +/- 0.7 degrees C, relative humidity ranged from 23.1 +/- 1.8% to 57.5 +/- 0.2%, and the average concentrations of CO2 and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were 1,291-1,833 ppmv and 1591,178 ppbm respectively. The subjective evaluations collected during intervention experiments showed that perceived odor intensity by visitors upon entering the room increased significantly, meanwhile the satisfaction and acceptability of air quality reduced considerably at the indoor temperature of 27 degrees C than that at 24 degrees C. Present results suggest when the indoor temperature rises, it is necessary to increase the outdoor air supply rate to ensure air freshness in classrooms. Subsequently, the calculated CO2 emission rate by students increased by 0.54 L/h per person for every 1 degrees C rise in indoor temperature. Corresponding to the control target of indoor CO2 concentration of 1,000 ppmv, the outdoor air ventilation rate required to eliminate occupant-generated pollution needs to be increased by 0.25 L/s per person.

Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic brought global attention to indoor air quality (IAQ), which is intrinsically linked to clean air change rates. Estimating the air change rate in indoor environments, however, remains challenging. It is primarily due to the uncertainties associated with the air change rate estimation, such as pollutant generation rates, dynamics including weather and occupancies, and the limitations of deterministic approaches to accommodate these factors. In this study, Bayesian inference was implemented on a stochastic CO2-based grey-box model to infer modeled parameters and quantify uncertainties. The accuracy and robustness of the ventilation rate and CO2 emission rate estimated by the model were confirmed with CO2 tracer gas experiments conducted in an airtight chamber. Both prior and posterior predictive checks (PPC) were performed to demonstrate the advantage of this approach. In addition, uncertainties in real-life contexts were quantified with an incremental variance {\sigma} for the Wiener process. This approach was later applied to evaluate the ventilation conditions within two primary school classrooms in Montreal. The Equivalent Clean Airflow Rate (ECAi) was calculated following ASHRAE 241, and an insufficient clean air supply within both classrooms was identified. A supplement of 800 cfm clear air delivery rate (CADR) from air-cleaning devices is recommended for a sufficient ECAi. Finally, steady-state CO2 thresholds (Climit, Ctarget, and Cideal) were carried out to indicate when ECAi requirements could be achieved under various mitigation strategies, such as portable air cleaners and in-room ultraviolet light, with CADR values ranging from 200 to 1000 cfm.
Preventing mold growth and maintaining acceptable indoor air quality for educational buildings operating with high mechanical ventilation rates in hot and humid climates

Abstract:Educational buildings located in hot and humid climates could suffer from high indoor humidity levels leading to mold growth issues which will eventually affect the well-being of occupants. These unhealthy indoor conditions typically occur in buildings located in extremely humid climates and operating with high mechanical ventilation rates that are normally set to maintain acceptable indoor air quality. Hence, experimental measurements of the indoor conditions of classrooms have been collected and analyzed to evaluate the performance of mechanical ventilation and its impact on indoor humidity, mold growth, and indoor CO 2 concentration. Furthermore, a building energy model of a selected classroom building has been developed and coupled with the VTT mold growth model. The simulation environment has then been used to perform a series of sensitivity and optimization analyses to optimize the performance of the HVAC system. The results showed that an occupancy density of 0.5 people/m 2 or less is required to deliver optimum ventilation rates, cooling set points, and acceptable indoor CO 2 concentrations. Optimum ventilation rates are found to be 2 ACH, 3 ACH, and 3.5 ACH for occupancy densities of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.5 people/m 2 , respectively, while the optimum cooling set point is 20 °C for all occupancy densities to prevent mold growth. Finally, valuable correlations were obtained in this study that can be utilized further to develop effective optimal control systems capable of improving indoor environmental quality of school buildings in hot and humid climates.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Demand-Controlled Ventilation in University Computer Classrooms and Possible Effects on Headache, Fatigue and Perceived Indoor Environment: an Intervention Study

Abstract:PURPOSE:To study the effects of a CO(2) demand-controlled ventilation system (variable flow) in computer classrooms on perceived air quality and sick building syndrome.METHODS:University students (27% women) participated in a blinded study. Two classrooms had variable flow (mean 5.56 ac/h); two others had constant ventilation flow (mean 5.07 ac/h). After one week, ventilation conditions were shifted. The students reported symptoms/perceptions during the last hour on rating scales. Temperature, air humidity, CO(2), PM10 and number concentration of particles were measured simultaneously. Cat (Fel d 1), dog (Can f 1), horse (Equ cx) and house dust mites (Der f 1 and Der p 1) allergens were measured in dust. Those participating twice in the same classroom (N = 61) were analysed longitudinally.RESULTS:Mean CO(2) was 784 ppm (9% of time >1,000 ppm) with variable flow and 809 ppm with constant flow conditions (25% of time >1,000 ppm). Mean temperature (22.6 °C), PM10 (18 μg/m(3)) and number concentration (1,860 pt/cm(3)) were unchanged. The median levels of cat, dog, horse and Der f 1 allergens were 10,400 ng/g, 4,900 ng/g, 13,700 U/ng and 260 ng/g dust, respectively. There were slightly less headache (p = 0.003), tiredness (p = 0.007) and improved perceived air quality (p = 0.02) with variable flow.CONCLUSIONS:Use of a CO(2)-controlled ventilation system, reducing elevated levels of CO(2), may slightly reduce headache and tiredness and improve perceived air quality. The high levels of pet allergens, due to track in of allergens from the home and possible accumulation due to electrostatic forces, illustrate a need for improved cleaning.
Field Testing of Air Change Rate in University Dormitories under Different Window-Opening Behaviors in Nanjing , China

Abstract:Air change rate per hour (ACH) is essential for assessing building performance, reflecting indoor air quality (IAQ), and calculating energy consumption. In China, research has mostly focused on spaces such as residences and offices, with less research and data on dormitories. Therefore, a field measurement using the CO2 decay method was conducted on university dormitories in Nanjing during the winter of 2018-2020, and 58 valid samples were obtained. Since different window-opening behaviors have a significant impact on ventilation, ACH was tested under open and closed window conditions. ACH under closed-window conditions ranged from 0.08 to 1.11 h-1 with a median value of 0.41 h-1. ACH under open-windows conditions ranged from 1.07 to 15.15 h-1 with a median value of 3.77 h-1. ACH in both states follows a log-normal distribution. This analysis can be used to assess the current state of ventilation in the dormitories, analyze the impact of window-opening behavior on ventilation, and provide data for IAQ improvements and energy savings.

Abstract:Building ventilation systems are equipped to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) through bringing in the non-polluted outdoor air for occupants. Carbon dioxide (CO2) concertation level serves as one of the most critical indicators for IAQ and occupancy to control ventilation systems. Many control strategies (such as ASHRAE standard 62.1) utilize CO2 concertation to determine the necessarily supplied air amount in building space. However, many studies suggest that due to the CO2’s mixed dual functions in indicating IAQ and occupancy, a large discrepancy is observed between the CO2 estimated occupancy and actual occupancy, especially in space with multiple zones. These estimation errors not only result in inefficient control response but also wasted fan power in unoccupied space. To solve those problems, this study utilized indoor positioning system (IPS) to detect occupancy and select the critical zones. The proposed control strategy calibrates the outdoor air flow based on detected zone occupancy. To validate the proposed strategy, this study compared the outcomes with conventional pure CO2 based control strategy. The simulation results suggest the proposed method could achieve acceptable CO2 concentration under 1000ppm for most zones and over 25% energy saving from primary fans and cooling coil during a sample weekday and a sample weekend day.

Abstract:As most urban residents spend an average 90% of their time in buildings, it is crucial for building residents to monitor and maintain a comfortable indoor environment and air quality. Controlling the indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration level is the major objective of mechanical ventilation systems to ensure healthy indoor air quality (IAQ). Current methods utilize proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers and multi-zone equations to operate ventilation systems in large spaces based on ASHRAE Standard 62. However, this approach suggests to determine the fresh air supply rate primarily based on CO2 level without considering occupancy. This often results in insufficient fresh air or energy waste in unnecessary mechanical operations in unoccupied building zones. Therefore, this study proposes a ventilation strategy based on occupancy profiles that captured by a Wi-Fi probe enabled occupancy sensing system. Based on the detected occupancy profiles, the proposed ventilation strategy and other two conventional strategies were compared in a two-day experiment conducted a multi-zone space. The comparison results in the experiment show that the proposed approach could maintain a CO2 concertation level lower than 1000 ppm for 94% (weekday) and 80% (weekend day) of day time for all zones. At the same time, the proposed strategy saved about 44.26% (weekday) and 55.5% (weekend day) of ventilation energy consumption when compared to the fixed rate ventilation strategy and saved about 23.6% (weekday) and 46.1% (weekend day) of ventilation energy consumption when compared to the multi-zone equation strategy.
