Abstract:Background: Nurses are essential members of the healthcare team, playing a critical role in patient care, treatment, and health promotion. They provide care for patients experiencing pain, disability, critical illness, and hospice needs. This demanding work can lead to significant fatigue and stress, impacting nurses' health, which is vital for delivering excellent patient care. The American Nurses Association’s Health Risk Appraisal Report (2017) found that 82% of nurses believe they are at significant risk for illness due to workplace stress. The ANA suggests self-care interventions such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, getting sufficient rest, nurturing relationships, engaging in leisure activities, and attending to spiritual needs. Educational programs focused on self-care practices and skills, along with compassion fatigue awareness, recognition, and prevention, can help develop coping mechanisms and resilience in healthcare providers, enhancing workplace satisfaction and the quality of patient care. Research methodology: This randomized controlled trial will enroll 224 participants, with 112 in the experimental group and 112 in the control group. A baseline pretest will be conducted using demographic profile and Professional Quality of Life tool V-5. The study participants will receive Self-care skill educational Intervention, whereas it will be withheld from control group subjects. Compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue will be assessed before and after the intervention in both groups. Results: Data analysis will be done using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Discussion: The primary outcome is expecting magnitude of increase of 3+/- 7.4 in compassion satisfaction scores among study group subjects from pretest and post- test as assessed by the using the ProQOL-5. Conclusion: Self-Care skill educational intervention will be an Cost- effective approach to increase compassion satisfaction and reducing the compassion fatigue the among clinical nurse which strengthen the patient-provider- relationship, enhance general wellbeing, workplace satisfaction, and the quality of patient care at HMC and the state of Qatar.

Effectiveness of a phone-based support program on self-care self-efficacy, psychological distress, and quality of life among women newly diagnosed with breast cancer: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a Phone-Based Support Program (PBSP) for newly diagnosed women with breast cancer. Methods: A two-group repeated measures randomized controlled trial was designed. Participants included 94 patients aged 18-60 years who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy in a tertiary hospital in China. They were randomly assigned to the intervention and the control groups. Participants in the intervention group were enrolled in a four-session PBSP, consisting of four interactive sections: learning, discussion, ask-the-expert, and personal stories, plus the routine care. Outcomes included patients' self-care self-efficacy, psychological distress (including symptom distress, anxiety, and depression), and quality of life. These were assessed at three time points: pre-intervention (T1), post-intervention (T2), and follow-up (T3) by using the self-care self-efficacy scale, the M.D. Anderson Symptom Inventory, the hospital anxiety and depression scale, and the global health status scale. Results: After completion of the intervention, participants in the intervention group had significantly (p < .001) higher self-care self-efficacy (T2: Mdiff = 11.49, T3: Mdiff = 22.33), better quality of life (T2: Mdiff = 8.18, T3: Mdiff = 17.19), lower symptom distress (T2: Mdiff = -26.68, T3: Mdiff = -54.76), less anxiety (T2: Mdiff = -2.52, T3: Mdiff = -5.11), and less depression (T2: Mdiff = -3.61, T3: Mdiff = -6.71) than those in the control group. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the PBSP is effective. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, could utilize it to enhance self-care self-efficacy and quality of life, as well as decrease psychological distress among women newly diagnosed breast cancer. Abstract:Aim Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the primary cause of cancer-related mortality among women. Advances in medical science have led to chemotherapy drugs that significantly reduce cancer mortality and increase patient's life expectancy. However, the systemic nature of chemotherapy leads to a wide range of physical and psychosocial challenges. Chemotherapy is usually given on an outpatient basis and hence patients have to manage treatment-related symptoms at home. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of early health intervention programs, specifically health education and progressive muscle relaxation, in managing the adverse effects of chemotherapy among women with breast cancer. Methods A randomized controlled trial was carried out at the chemotherapy unit of a tertiary care hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The research involved 340 female breast cancer patients receiving their initial chemotherapy cycle, divided equally into an experimental group and a control group. Patients in the intervention group received an early health intervention program on the day of their first chemotherapy cycle. These interventions included a 40-minute session comprising health education to manage the adverse effects of chemotherapy at home and a demonstration of progressive muscle relaxation techniques, which must be practiced by the patients two times daily till the end of chemotherapy. Participants in the control group received routine care from the hospital. The primary outcome variable was the adverse effects of chemotherapy. Sociodemographic and clinical information were collected using a structured questionnaire. The severity of adverse effects was assessed using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 3 (CTCAE v3). Result The average age of participants was 54.7 ± 9.7 years in the control group and 52.4 ± 9 years in the experimental group. The majority in both groups had invasive breast cancer, with 144 (84.7%) in the control group and 153 (90%) in the experimental group. In the post-test, most participants in the control group experienced severe fatigue (136, 80%), mucositis (82, 48.2%), nausea (83, 49.1%), and vomiting (81, 47.6%). Conversely, the majority in the experimental group reported mild mucositis (110, 64.7%), nausea (92, 54.1%), and vomiting (93, 54.7%), along with moderate fatigue (116, 68.2%). Hair loss was incomplete for all participants in the control group and 115 (97.6%) participants in the experimental group. There was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups regarding fatigue (p < 0.001), insomnia (p < 0.01), anorexia (p < 0.01), mucositis (p < 0.01), nausea (p < 0.01), vomiting (p < 0.01), leukopenia (p = 0.001), neutrophil count (p < 0.01), hair loss (p < 0.05), and taste alteration (p < 0.01) during the post-test. Conclusion The study demonstrated that early health interventions, such as health education and progressive muscle relaxation, significantly reduced the adverse effects experienced by breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This suggests that providing supportive education and exercise training to both patients and caregivers can be beneficial in managing these side effects.
Psychoeducational Intervention for Pain, Psychological Distress, Hope, and Post-traumatic Growth Among Breast Cancer Patients During Chemotherapy: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract:Background: Chemotherapy is associated with many side effects, including pain and psychological distress, which affect patients' physical and psychological health. Aim: The aim of this study was to elucidate the efficacy of a pain management intervention (POLA) to promote pain, psychological distress, hope and post-traumatic growth in breast cancer patients, also, to undertake a preliminary evaluation of the intervention. Methods: A pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted in an Iranian hospital involving 42 breast cancer (BC) patients during chemotherapy. The intervention group received a 6-week group therapy (90 minutes per session) administered by a psychologist. Meanwhile, the comparison group received standard care. patients' Pain, psychological distress, hope and post-traumatic growth were measured at 3 time points (baseline, week 6, and 12 weeks postintervention). Results: The study design was found to be feasible, with a recruitment rate of 61.64% and an attrition rate of 6.66%. Compared to the control group, the intervention group showed a significant reduction in pain, psychological distress, depression, anxiety, and stress, as well as a notable improvement in hope and post-traumatic growth (p < .01). These differences remained significant at follow-up (p < 0.05). The study population found the intervention acceptable, as evidenced by a high attendance rate of 90% and adherence rate of 90.47%. Conclusion: Psychoeducational intervention positively affects the pain, psychological distress, hope and post-traumatic growth of BC patients during chemotherapy.

Abstract:Objective Psychological interventions are pivotal in enhancing the Quality of Life for breast cancer survivors, with a primary focus on addressing affective and cognitive challenges through group discussions among those diagnosed with the disease. While the influence of Body Image on overall well-being is well-documented, research on interventions specifically designed to address Body Image concerns in this demographic remains scarce. The present study aimed to fill this gap by evaluating the outcomes of a psychological intervention focused on fostering a positive Body Image among 25 breast cancer survivors. Method Participants were divided into an experimental group, which received the intervention ( n = 13), and a control group that did not receive any psychological support ( n = 12). Results Our findings highlight significant disparities in emotional regulation strategies, specifically cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, with the intervention group reporting enhanced emotional regulation. Contrary to initial hypotheses, the analysis unveiled statistically significant differences in both negative (social physique anxiety) and positive (functionality appreciation) body image dimensions, indicating elevated levels of social physique anxiety and reduced functionality appreciation among intervention participants. Conclusion The total results may suggest that the intervention, while effective in enhancing emotional regulation, heightened awareness of body image issues, leading to increased social physique anxiety and diminished functionality appreciation. The paper further discusses practical implications arising from these insights.

Abstract:Background: Psychoeducation has turned into an effective tool in taking care of cancer patients and improving their psychophysical symptoms and quality of life. Despite the growing use of mobile phone apps in medical settings for improving health, evidence supporting their effectiveness in the psychoeducation of patients with breast cancer is rarely available. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of psychoeducational interventions on anxiety and self-esteem in women with breast cancer using a mobile app and an online support group. Methods: An unblinded randomized controlled trial based on mobile phones was conducted in Shiraz, Iran. A research assistant recruited 82 women with nonmetastatic breast cancer aged 20 to 60 years were from clinics during a face-to-face visit at the point of care and randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=41) and a wait-list control group (n=41) through blocked randomization. The intervention group received psychoeducational interventions through a mobile phone app and participated in nurse-assisted online mobile support sessions for a total four weeks, whereas the control group was put on a waiting list. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) were used to measure the levels of anxiety and self-esteem as the main outcomes at baseline and one week after the intervention. Results: A total of 82 patients with a mean age of 46.45 (SD 9.29) years recruited in Winter 2016 were randomly assigned to a wait-list control group (n=41) and intervention group (n=41). Five patients dropped out for different reasons. Comparing the postintervention mean scores of anxiety and its subscales using the independent t test showed statistically significant differences between the mobile psychoeducation group and controls (P<.001). The paired t test used to compare the postintervention mean scores of anxiety with its preintervention scores in the intervention group showed significant reductions in the scores of anxiety (95% CI -17.44 to -8.90, P<.001, d=1.02) and its two subscales (state anxiety: 95% CI -9.20 to -4.21, P<.001, d=0.88 and trait anxiety: 95% CI -8.50 to -4.12, P<.001, d=0.94). Comparing the postintervention mean scores of self-esteem showed statistically insignificant differences between the control and intervention groups (16.87 vs 17.97, P=.24). In contrast with the controls, using the paired t test showed that the increase in the postintervention mean scores of self-esteem were statistically significant in the intervention group compared with the preintervention scores (mean difference 2.05, 95% CI 1.28 to 2.82, P<.001). Conclusions: This study demonstrated the key role of mobile apps in decreasing anxiety and improving self-esteem in women with breast cancer through psychoeducational interventions. Abstract:Introduction: The head and neck comprise vital organs and are apparent human body parts. Tumours here impair physical and sensory functions as well as appearance and social interactions, leading to body image distress (BID) and threatening mental health and quality of life. Acceptance and commitment therapy has shown effectiveness in improving BID in groups such as breast cancer patients. This study aims to apply this therapy to intervene in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients, aiming to improve BID and promote better psychological well-being. Methods and analysis: This study is a prospective, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial. A total of 64 HNC patients will be allocated to either an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group will engage in a 3 week, six-session group-based acceptance and commitment therapy programme, while the control group will receive standard treatment. The primary outcome is cancer-related BID, and secondary outcomes are HNC-related BID, psychological flexibility, coping style and psychological distress. These indicators will be measured at baseline, postintervention and 1 month following the intervention's completion. Ethics and dissemination: The trial has received approval from the Institutional Review Board of Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital (2308-67-02). The study results will be shared through peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Trial registration number: ChiCTR2300077863.
Brief collaborative care intervention to reduce perceived unmet needs in highly distressed breast cancer patients: randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Objectives: Our newly developed brief collaborative care intervention program has been suggested to be effective in reducing breast cancer patients' unmet needs and psychological distress; however, there has been no controlled trial to investigate its effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the program in relation to patients' perceived needs and other relevant outcomes for patients including quality of life, psychological distress and fear of recurrence (Clinical trial register; UMIN-CTR, Clinical registration number; R5172). Methods: Fifty-nine highly distressed breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy were randomly assigned either to a treatment as usual group or to a collaborative care intervention, consisting of four sessions that mainly included assessment of the patients' perceived needs, learning skills of problem-solving treatment for coping with unmet needs and psycho-education provided by trained nurses supervised by a psycho-oncologist. Results: Although >80% of the eligible patients agreed to participate, and >90% of participants completed the intervention, there were no significant differences with regard to patients' needs, quality of life, psychological distress and fear of recurrence, both at 1 and 3 months after intervention. Conclusion: Newly developed brief collaborative care intervention program was found to be feasible and acceptable. The trial, however, failed to show the effectiveness of the program on patients' relevant subjective outcomes. Further intervention program having both brevity and sufficient intensity should be developed in future studies.
Organ Specific Autoantibodies in Preclinical and Early Clinical Type 1 Diabetes in Turkey

Abstract:Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) patients (G1; n=73) and first degree relatives with islet cell antibody (ICA) values of ≥10 JDF u twice or ≥20 JDF u one and loss of FPIR (G2; n=18) were screened for two other autoantibodies, anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA) and insulin autoantibodies (IAA), and for other organ-specific autoantibodies, anti-gastric parietal cell (anti-PCA) and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) as well. The two control groups consisted of healthy subjects (G3; n:55 and G4; n:13). In G1, positivity of ICA, GADA, IAA, anti-TPO and anti-PCA were 63%, 75.1%, 27.4%, 17.8% and 8.2%, respectively. In G2, positivity for GADA, IAA, anti-TPO and anti-PCA were 55.6%, 11.1%, 16.7% and 11.1%, respectively. None of the anti-TPO or anti-PCA positive cases had clinical or laboratory thyroid disease or pernicious anemia. Other organ specific antibodies, in case they accompany GADAand/or IAA in high risk individuals, result in higher risk for T1D. Moreover, this condition may indicate future potential for developing thyrogastric autoimmune diseases. In conclusion; autoantibodies are markers for autoimmune destruction in T1D, and for identification of subjects at risk for disease. Even at the time of diagnosis of T1D, screening for thyrogastric autoimmunity might be recommended for early detection of the relevant diseases.
Day surgery and recovery in women with a suspicious breast lesion: evaluation of a psychoeducational nursing intervention.

Abstract:The study assessed whether a nursing intervention based on self-regulation theory, the Attentional Focus and Symptom Management Intervention (AFSMI), could help women who underwent day surgery for breast cancer to achieve better pain management and decreased emotional distress. The sample consisted of 117 patients with breast cancer who were outpatients and undergoing surgery as part of the initial treatment for their cancer. All subjects were interviewed at three different occasions. The subjects were randomized into the experimental group (n = 61) or the usual care group (control, n = 56). The subjects in the experimental group received the intervention in two sessions, 3-4 days and 10-11 days after surgery. The outcomes were the subjects' pain and emotional distress. Results showed significant differences between the experimental and control group at post-test on home management, total mood disturbance, confusion and tension scores implying that the intervention was effective in achieving these outcomes. Clinical significance has illustrated that a nursing intervention applied during immediate recovery of breast cancer surgery is quite clinically relevant to reduce emotional distress. Self-regulation theory could effectively be used as a guide in developing nursing intervention programs in practice for patients with cancer undergoing day surgery as a primary treatment.

Abstract:Objective This systematic review aimed to summarize evidence for the feasibility and acceptability of psychosocial interventions for body image among women diagnosed with breast cancer and the study methods used to evaluate the interventions in question. Methods Articles were identified via MEDLINE, CINAHL, CENTRAL, PsychINFO, and EMBASE. Inclusion criteria were: (1) peer‐reviewed publication in English from 2000 onward with accessible full‐text, (2) reported data on the feasibility and/or acceptability of psychosocial interventions and/or study methods, (3) included at least one measure of body image or reported a body‐related theme, and (4) sample comprised women diagnosed with breast cancer. All study designs were eligible. Two reviewers independently performed study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment. Results Sixty‐two articles were included. Participants and comparator groups varied as did interventions. Feasibility and acceptability of the interventions and study methods were inconsistently operationalized and reported across studies. Evidence of feasibility and acceptability was heterogeneous within and across studies, though mostly positive. Conclusion Published psychosocial interventions for body image and study methods are generally feasible and acceptable. Findings should be used to advance the development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions designed to improve outcomes (body image or otherwise) for women diagnosed with breast cancer. Abstract:Purpose To investigate the effect of perioperative nurse-led counselling intervention on unmet needs, sexual function and quality of life in colorectal cancer patients. Method This quasi-experimental study included 82 patients who underwent colorectal cancer surgery (control n = 45, intervention n = 37). The telephone-based perioperative nurse-led counselling intervention, which contained implementation, follow-up, and assessment, was applied to start from pre-surgery to post-surgery 3rd month. Data were collected with the Unmet Needs of Cancer Survivors Scale, European Organisation for Treatment and Research of Cancer Quality of Life Scale-30, Colorectal-29, Female Sexual Function Index, and International Index of Erectile Function pre- and post-surgery 3rd-6th months. The control data was collected before the pandemic, and the intervention group throughout the pandemic. The Mann-Whitney-U, Wilcoxon rank test was used. Results Compared to the control group, intervention group patients reported lower unmet and total needs scores (p = 0.000); higher quality of life (p = 0.000), physical, emotional (p = 0.000), role (p = 0.001), and social functioning scores (p = 0.002); lower fatigue (p = 0.000), constipation (p = 0.034), pain (p = 0.018), nausea-vomiting (p = 0.004), and insomnia scores (p = 0.003); and higher body image, anxiety (p = 0.000) and weight scores (p = 0.003), lower urinary frequency buttock pain (p = 0.000), dysuria (p = 0.001), abdominal pain (p = 0.001), fluctuance (p = 0.000), stool frequency (p = 0.002), and faecal incontinence (p = 0.006) scores at the sixth month (p 0.05). Conclusions Perioperative nurse-led counselling reduced unmet needs and increased the overall quality of life by decreasing symptom levels but did not affect sexual health outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer surgery.

Abstract:Background and Aim: Cancer, as a social phenomenon, disrupts the daily functions and social activities of a person and changes his ability to perform roles and responsibilities and reach the meaning of life. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of positive psychotherapy on understanding the meaning of life in patients with cancer. Materials and Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial study. Sixty-one patients with cancer were selected by convenience sampling method and were assigned randomly into two positive psychotherapeutic ( n = 30) and control ( n = 31) groups. Positive psychotherapy included eight 90-min sessions held weekly in group form. The life attitude profile-Gary Reker was completed before and after the intervention. Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference between the mean scores of meaning of life and all its dimensions (purposes, existential vacuum, death acceptance, goal seeking, coherence and responsibility choice) before intervention, but there was a significant difference between the two groups after intervention ( P < 0.05). Also in the control group, the mean score was reduced after the intervention. Conclusion: The positive psychotherapy is effective in increasing the level of meaningful life, enjoyable and committed life of people with cancer. Therefore, based on the results of this study, health-care managers can plan to train and increase the empowerment of nurses in providing these interventions to patients in need.

Abstract:Background: We aimed to evaluate the effect of a psychological nursing intervention on inflammatory factors, negative emotions and quality of life in patients with breast cancer. Methods: Patients at the Cancer Hospital of China Medical University from January 2017 to January 2020 were stratified into two groups based on the way of nursing. Patients in the control group received routine care, and the experimental group received appropriate psychological care interventions in addition to routine care. We compared the inflammatory factors (interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C reactive protein (CRP)), negative emotions (self-rating depression scale (SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS)) and quality of Life (short form-36 survey (SF-36)) between two groups. Results: A total of 226 patients with breast cancer were enrolled in this study. Before the intervention, the CRP, IL-6, SAS and SDS between two groups were not significantly different (t=0.205, 0.971, 0.590, 1.579; P=0.838, 0.332, 0.556, 0.116). After the intervention, the CRP, IL-6, SAS and SDS between two groups were decreased and significantly different (t=-17.648, -18.079,-18.267,-18.613; P<0.05) Besides, the social function , physiological function, mental health, physical pain, physical limitation, vitality, emotional functions and overall health were improved and significantly different between two groups after intervention (P<0.05). Conclusion: A psychological nursing Intervention has the beneficial effect on the inflammatory factors, negative emotions and quality of life in patients with breast cancer.

Abstract:To determine the prognostic significance of the level of arterial disease in claudicators, risk factors affecting the progression of intermittent claudication, including hemodynamic variables obtained from noninvasive vascular laboratory examinations, were assessed. We identified 378 patients with intermittent claudication by characteristic history and the presence of abnormal treadmill exercise examination results. Results of serial examinations were available for 195 of these patients, who had 310 claudicating limbs. Life-table analysis revealed that after eight years, 41% of these patients had progressed to critical ischemia, defined as rest pain or tissue loss, and 50% had died. Cox proportional hazards general linear regression analysis found that at a patient's first examination in the vascular laboratory, the ankle-brachial index and the decrease in ankle-brachial index after exercise were significantly associated with the subsequent development of critical ischemia. The level of disease at the initial examination in the vascular laboratory was not a significant risk factor for progression to critical ischemia and therefore should not be used as an indicator for or against operation in patients with intermittent claudication.
Personalised graded psychological intervention on negative emotion and quality of life in patients with breast cancer

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Psychological factors are a risk factor for the incidence of breast cancer and have a significant impact on patient prognosis. OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to investigate the effects of personalised graded psychological intervention on negative emotion and quality of life in patients with breast cancer. METHODS: A total of 200 patients with breast cancer were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group (n= 100) and control group (n= 100). Both groups received routine nursing care. The experimental group received personalised graded psychological intervention care, and the control group received routine nursing measures. After 2 months of standard treatment, the patients' quality of life and negative emotions were evaluated using the self-rating depression scale (SDS), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), social support rating scale (SSRS) and quality of life measurement scale (FACT-B) scoring criteria. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the general data between the two groups (p> 0.05). Furthermore, there were no significant differences in the SDS, SAS, SSRS and FACT-B scores between the two groups before personalised graded psychological intervention (p> 0.05). After the intervention, the experimental group exhibited an improved nursing effect compared with the control group. The SDS and SAS scores were lower in the experimental group than in the control group (p< 0.05); after the intervention, the SDS and SAS scores were significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group (p< 0.05). The SSRS and FACT-B scores were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p< 0.05), and the experimental group's post-intervention SSRS and FACT-B scores were significantly higher than before the intervention (p< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The use of personalised graded psychological intervention for the nursing of patients with breast cancer in clinical practice can significantly reduce patients' negative emotions as well as improve positive emotions and quality of life; thus, this method can be popularised in the nursing process.

Effect of a comprehensive lifestyle intervention program on body weight and health behavior in women with breast cancer: Results from a randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Background: Both overweight/obesity and a Western lifestyle are associated with a poorer prognosis in women with breast cancer. The primary aim of this analysis was to examine the effect of a telephone-delivered lifestyle intervention program on reducing body weight and waist circumference, decreasing cardiovascular risk factors and improving lifestyle. Design: Data is derived from an open-label, randomized, controlled phase III study that evaluated two chemotherapy regimens and the impact of a 2-year lifestyle intervention on disease-free survival and secondary outcomes in women with intermediate-risk to high-risk breast cancer. Initially, 2292 women with a body mass index (BMI) between 24 and 40 kg/m2 were randomized into one of two arms of the lifestyle intervention study. After accounting for dropout, 1785 participants remained: 776 in the intervention group (IG) who received a telephone-delivered lifestyle intervention supported by mailed materials, and 1009 in the low-level intervention group (LLIG) who received only mailed educational materials with general recommendations for a healthy lifestyle. Body weight, waist circumference, dietary intake, physical activity, and cardiovascular disease risk parameters were measured repeatedly throughout the intervention and a subsequent 2-year follow-up period. Linear mixed models for repeated measures were used to assess differences in study outcomes between the LLIG and IG at each measured time point. Results: IG participants showed a mean weight loss of -2.7 kg (kg) (versus +0.4 kg, LLIG) at 6 months, -2.8 kg (vs. +0.8 kg, LLIG) at 12 months and -1.8 kg at 24 months (versus +0.9 kg, LLIG). Significant between-group differences for weight loss and reduced waist circumference were observed at all time points until the end of the lifestyle intervention (all p-values < 0.0001), including post-intervention. Reduced energy intake and a higher alternate healthy eating index (AHEI) score in the IG was detected during the lifestyle intervention (AHEI at 24 months: IG 49.1% versus LLIG 42.0%, p < 0.001). Modest significant improvements in several cardiovascular risk factors were observed during the intervention, including fasting plasma glucose, HbA1c, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and lipids. Conclusions: A mainly telephone-delivered lifestyle intervention program can reduce body weight and waist circumference, improve diet quality, and decrease cardiometabolic risk in women with overweight/obesity and newly diagnosed, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)/neu-negative, intermediate-risk to high-risk breast cancer. Weight loss, reduced waist circumference and improved dietary patterns were maintained for up to two years post-intervention. Effectiveness of interventional package on body image perception and self-esteem among adolescents - A pilot study

Abstract:Background of the study: In adolescence various physical and psychological changes, impact their overall perception that leads to either satisfaction or dissatisfaction with body image. Adolescents can suffer from body image dissatisfaction. Counselling sessions, video and documentaries can be used to improve the body image concerns. So, this study aims to evaluate the impact of interventional package on the body image perception and self-esteem among adolescents. Materials and methods: The sampling technique used to enrol 65 adolescents was simple random. Body image was assessed in the form of affective and behavioural body image perception. Two different structured scales were used to assess affective and behavioural body image perception. Pre-test was conducted to assess the body image perception among adolescents; then, documentary was shown in the form of intervention 1 and the post-test 1 was taken, again booklet was distributed as intervention 2 and post-test -2 was taken. Results: A statistically significant improvement in the satisfaction with weight, height, complexion, hair, teeth, buttocks, thigh and moustache, after the use of interventional package. In behavioural perception of body image, no significant association was found in pre-test, post-test 1 and 2, there is statistically significant improvement in self-esteem of adolescents, as P = 0.03. Conclusion: Interventional package in the form of documentary and booklet is useful in improving body image perception among adolescents. Significant improvement was seen in perception related to certain body parts.
