Abstract:Objective To investigate the performance of surgical management in facial skin malignancies.Methods From January 2000 to December 2006,65 patients with facial skin malignancies,including47 cases of basal cell carcinoma.10 cases of squamous cell carcinoma,3 cases of dermatofibrosarocoma protuberans,2 cases of malignant melanomas,and one case of malignant acanthoma,hemangioendotheliosar-coma and sebaceous carcinoma,respectively,were collected and managed with wide resection followed by reconstruction.In order to achieve a thorough resection,frozen sections were prepared and subjected to pathological examination during the operation process to ensure the margins of resection were free of malignancy.Reconstruction was carried out by direct closure,or with local random flaps,extended flaps,free skin grafts.Resuits All defects were managed by one-stage reconstruction.The survival rate of skin flaps/grafts was 100%,and a satisfactory appearance and function was achieved.During the follow-up from 6 months to 5 years,local relapse was observed in one patient with basal cell carcinoma and one with squamous eell carcinoma,lymphatic metastasis in one with squamous cell carcinoma.Distant metastasis occurred in a patient with malignant melanoma.who died consequently.Conclusions Thorough resection is the key to prevent relapse of facial skin malignancies after surgery.Appropriate reconstruction may favor the restoration of facial appearance,and local random flaps appear to be the best reconstruction strategy.

Abstract:Background: Scalp-associated cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) presents formidable treatment challenges, especially when it leads to full-thickness defects involving bone. Aggressive or recurring cases often demand a multidisciplinary approach. Leveraging our surgical experience and a literature review, we introduce a therapeutic algorithm to guide the selection of reconstruction methods, particularly for locally advanced lesions, furthermore showing the synergy between surgery and other therapies for comprehensive, multidisciplinary disease management. Methods: Our algorithm stems from a retrospective analysis of 202 patients undergoing scalp cSCC resection and reconstruction over a 7-year period, encompassing 243 malignancies. After rigorous risk assessment and documentation of surgical procedures, reconstruction methods were therefore related to malignancy extent, depth, and individual clinical status. Results: The documented reconstructions included 76 primary closures, 115 skin grafts, 7 dermal substitute reconstructions, 33 local flaps, 1 locoregional flap, and 1 microsurgical free flap. Patients unsuitable for surgery received radiotherapy or immunotherapy after histological confirmation. Precise analysis of tumor characteristics in terms of infiltration extent and depth guided the selection of appropriate reconstruction and treatment strategies Combining these insights with an extensive literature review enabled us to formulate our algorithm for managing scalp cSCCs. Conclusions: Effectively addressing scalp cSCC, especially in locally advanced or recurrent cases, demands a systematic approach integrating surgery, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Our multidisciplinary team's decision-making algorithm improved patient outcomes by offering a broader spectrum of therapeutic options that can synergistically achieve optimal results.

Abstract:Effect of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) on the lethal toxicity, bone marrow toxicity and antitumor efficacies of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was examined. The following results were obtained. In aged female ddY mice, the lethal toxicity and body weight loss caused by 5-FU were reduced by MPA. MPA also reduced the bone marrow toxicity of 5-FU in aged female ddY mice. These effects of MPA were not observed in young male ddY mice. Moreover, MPA did not affect the antitumor activity of 5-FU against MPA-insensitive mouse breast carcinoma FM3A, or rather augmented its antitumor activity against MPA-sensitive human breast carcinoma MCF-7. These results indicate that MPA reduces the side effects of 5-FU and augments the antitumor activity of 5-FU in female mice.

Abstract:The incidence of breast cancer has been increasing significantly over the past decades, while the mortality rate has, actually, been decreasing. Behind this favorable trend in the decrease in mortality are not only high-quality screening programs, but also undoubtedly advances in therapy, especially new methods in surgical treatment. The importance of oncoplastic approach integrating resection and reconstruction procedures is obvious. Our efforts continue to maximize breast-conserving therapy, which is being improved in parallel with the development of new localization methods of non-palpable lesions. Breast-conserving therapy indication spectrum is also increasing with the use of oncoplastic approach allowing the resection of a significant part of the mammary gland while achieving an acceptable cosmetic result. We improve guidelines for skin-sparing procedures and also possibilities and availability of breast reconstruction. Most popular is breast reconstruction with free abdominal flap transfer. However, due to such demanding complex procedure with limited availability, there is also a significant development of silicone-implant-based reconstruction or methods of fat transfer. Constant attention is focused on axillary surgery, now especially in cases of initial nodal involvement that responds favorably to neoadjuvant systemic treatment. Current findings indicate tendency to modify and differentiate surgical indications according to the tumor phenotype. Complex lymphedema prevention surgery, such as lymphatic mapping or restoring lymphatic flow via microsurgical lymphaticovenous anastomosis, can provide effective and long-term improvement and is challenging. Recently in the Czech Republic, we reopened the discussion about the optimal concentration of medical care in a smaller number of specialized breast centers, which we think is one of a number of steps on the constant path to improve medical results.
Assessment of Standard Surgical Excision Efficacy and Analysis of Recurrence-Associated Factors in 343 Cases of Nasal Basal Cell Carcinoma: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

Abstract:In Caucasians, basal cell carcinoma, the predominant non-melanoma skin cancer type, poses challenges for surgeons due to anatomical and aesthetic concerns, particularly when located on the nose. The study aimed to evaluate tumor distribution, size, morphological subtypes, surgical outcomes, radicality levels, and their correlation with recurrence rates. A retrospective analysis encompassed 343 cases of nasal skin cancer over a four-year period from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2022. The research cohort comprised 252 female and 91 male participants, averaging 75.2 years old. Tumors were most found on the left sidewall of the nose (25.4%) and the dorsum (24.8%). The infiltrative morphological subtype was predominant (70.8%). Standard surgical excision with fasciocutaneous plastic was the preferred surgical procedure. Radical excision, defined by the absence of tumor cells in a resection margin, was accomplished in 79.0% of lesions, whereas 16.9% demonstrated incomplete excision, signifying the presence of tumor cells in the resection margin. Non-radically excised tumors exhibited a significantly higher recurrence rate (24.1%) compared to those with radical excision (6.3%). In nasal reconstruction, diverse surgical techniques are essential for precise adaptation based on factors like tumor characteristics and patient needs. Despite surgeons' careful adherence to excision margin guidelines, the possibility of non-radical outcome cannot be eliminated.

Neurosurgical treatment and outcome patterns in patients with meningioma in South Moravian region-a population-based study

Abstract:Introduction: Meningiomas are usually slow-growing tumours, constituting about one third of all primary intracranial tumours. They occur more frequently in women. Clinical manifestation of meningiomas depends on their location, tumour size and growth rate. In most cases, surgical treatment is the procedure of choice. The success of this treatment is, however, associated with the radicality of the resection. Radiotherapy represents an additional or alternative treatment modality. Gamma knife surgery is another notable treatment method, especially in small and/or slow-growing tumours in eloquent areas or in elderly patients. Material and methods: Authors describe their experience with the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of the patients with meningioma (n = 857). Furthermore, they also assess the postoperative morbidity/mortality and recurrence rate. Results and conclusions: In view of the benign histology of meningiomas, the success of the treatment largely depends (besides the tumour grading) on the radicality of the resection. The emphasis is also put on appropriate follow-up of the patients. In certain patients, the watch and wait strategy should be also considered as a suitable treatment method.

Abstract:Introduction. Currently, a personalized approach is considered a priority in the treatment of malignant neoplasms of bones, skin and soft tissues. The decision on the treatment plan is formed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists: a surgeon, a chemotherapist, a radiotherapist. The active introduction of systemic therapy and new technologies in radiation therapy made it possible to ensure local and systemic control of the disease, which contributed to the expansion of indications for performing organ-preserving surgical interventions. In order to improve functional results, while observing the radicality of the intervention, the restoration of integumentary tissues, as well as anatomical structures, is carried out. According to various authors, the need for a reconstructive plastic component in surgical interventions on the musculoskeletal system and skin is 28–32 % for segmental resections of long bones, 30–42 % for operations on pelvic bones, 50–80 % for soft tissue sarcomas, 80 % for operations on the chest wall, when the skin is heated – 44,7 %. Aim. To study and present the results of combined treatment with reconstructive plastic surgery in patients with tumors of bones, skin and soft tissues. Ma terials and methods. The results of treatment and follow-up of 441 patients with locally advanced tumors of the skin, bones and soft tissues who received treatment in Republican Clinical Oncological Dispensary named after Prof. M.Z. Sigal from 2016 to 2023 were analyzed. The patients underwent surgical treatment with the implementation of the reconstructive plastic stage. Results. In accordance with the principles of a personalized approach, a method of reconstruction of a postoperative defect was chosen for all patients, taking into account the localization of the pathological focus, the volume of surgical intervention, and somatic status. Conclusion. Performing the reconstructive plastic stage in the surgical treatment of tumors of bones, soft tissues and skin is characterized by a low number of postoperative complications and good functional results, significantly reducing the risk of tumor recurrence and systemic progression due to compliance with the radicality of the intervention.
Surgical Treatment for Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the efficacy of surgical treatment for cutaneous malignant melanoma. Methods: Retrospective analysis of clinical records, surgical procedures and the prognosis was performed in 93 patients who were diagnosed of cutaneous malignant melanoma and underwent surgical treatment between October 2007 and December 2011. According to American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system, one patient was in stage ⅠA, two patients were in stage ⅠB, eight patients were in stage ⅡA, nine patients were in stage ⅡB, twenty patients were in stage ⅡC, eighteen patients were in stage ⅢA, seventeen patients were in stage ⅢB, sixteen patients were in stage ⅢC, and two patients were in stage Ⅳ. The surgical procedures include extensive skin resection for 26 patients, extensive skin resection plus construction with skin graft or local flap for 7 patients, finger (toe) amputation for 8 patients, ilioinguinal lymph node dissection for 32 patients, axillary lymph node dissection for 3 patients, extensive skin resection plus one-stage ilioinguinal lymph node dissection for 15 patients, and extensive skin resection plus one-stage axillary lymph node dissection for 2 patients. Fifty-three patients received adjuvant chemotherapy and seventy-eight patients received interferon or interleukin treatment. Of 93 patients, 77 patients were followed-up, with an average follow-up period of 20 months (range: 2-50 months). Results: All of three stage Ⅰ patients survived; of 28 stage Ⅱ patients, 8, 2 and 6 patients had linguinal lymph node, bone or skin metastasis 12, 18 and 36 months after surgical treatment, respectively; of 44 stage Ⅲ patients, 11 patients died of lung metastasis, and 5 patients died of liver metastasis during the follow-up; of 2 stage Ⅳ patients, 1 patients died of lung metastasis 12 months after surgical treatment, and 1 patient died of liver metastasis 11 months after surgical treatment. Of the 77 patients who were followed-up, 43 patients survived with neither local recurrence nor progressive disease. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and surgical treatment of cutaneous malignant melanoma can achieve desirable disease control, and the standardized regional lymph node dissection is important in the control of tumor progression, as well as the adjuvant therapy is benefit for the survival. A Single-Centre Maxillofacial Surgery Experience

Abstract:Background: Basal cell carcinoma is the most common nonmelanoma skin cancer, followed by cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. The objective of the current study was to retrospectively evaluate the epidemiology, characteristic variations, histological aspects, and prognosis of basal cell carcinoma of the facial region based on a single-centre experience. Methods: Data from 125 patients admitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Kiel, for surgical treatment of basal cell carcinomas of the face between January 2015 and April 2021 were evaluated. Results: The mean patient age was 79.58 years, 60.5% were male and 39.5% were female. Six patients (4.8%) had tumour recurrence with no regional metastasis. Seventy-nine patients (63%) were classified as T1. The nose and the temporal region were the most common areas. The mean tumour thickness was 3.20 mm. Conclusions: Micronodular, sclerosing/morphoeic, nodular, and superficial growth patterns of basal cell carcinoma are highly correlated to recurrence, so an excision safety margin is recommended. There is a strong correlation between tumour thickness and recurrence among basal cell carcinoma cases. When completely excised, the recurrence rate for basal cell carcinoma is relatively low.

Predictive Significance of Combined Plasmatic Detection of BRAF Mutations and S100B Tumor Marker in Early‐Stage Malignant Melanoma

Abstract:Background Melanoma is the most aggressive skin cancer with ability to recur also after early‐stage tumor surgery. The aim was to identify early‐stage melanoma patients at high risk of recurrence using liquid biopsy, estimating of mutated BRAF ctDNA and the level of tumor marker S100B in plasma. Methods Eighty patients were enrolled in the study. BRAF V600E mutation was determined in FFPE tissue and plasma samples using ultrasensitive ddPCR with pre‐amplification. The level of S100B was determined in plasma by immunoassay chemiluminescent method. Results The best prediction of melanoma recurrence after surgery was observed in patients with combined high level of S100B (S100Bhigh) and ctDNA BRAFV600E (BRAFmut) in preoperative (57.1% vs. 12.5%, p = 0.025) as well as postoperative blood samples (83.3% vs. 14.3%, resp., p = 0.001) in comparison with low S100B and BRAF wild‐type. Similarly, patients with preoperative and postoperative S100Bhigh and BRAFmut experienced worse prognosis (DFI p = 0.05, OS p = 0.131 and DFI p = 0.001, OS = 0.001, resp.). Conclusion We observed the benefit of the estimation of combination of S100B and ctDNA BRAFmut in peripheral blood for identification of patients at high risk of recurrence and unfavorable prognosis. Significance There is still no general consensus on molecular markers for deciding the appropriateness of adjuvant treatment of early‐stage melanoma. We have shown for the first time that the combined determination of the ctDNA BRAFmut oncogene (liquid biopsy) and the high level of tumor marker S100B in pre‐ and postoperative plasma samples can identify patients with the worst prognosis and the highest risk of tumor recurrence. Therefore, modern adjuvant therapy would be appropriate for these patients with resectable melanoma, regardless of disease stage.

Abstract:Abstract Purpose Male breast cancer (MBC) is a rare, but increasingly common disease, and lacks prospective studies. Collaborative efforts are needed to understand and address MBC, including its prognosis, in different countries. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical, histopathological, and molecular-genetic characteristics, treatments, and survival outcomes of MBC diagnosed between 2007 and 2017 in the Czech Republic. Prognostic factors of overall survival (OS), recurrence-free interval (RFi), and breast cancer-specific mortality (BCSM) were analyzed and indirectly compared to international data. Results We analyzed 256 patients with MBC (median age 66 years), including 12% with de novo metastatic (M1). Of 201 non-metastatic (M0) patients, 6% were <40 years old, 29% had stage I, 55% were cN0, and 54% underwent genetic testing. Overall, 97% of tumors had estrogen receptor expression ≥10%, 61% had high Ki67 index, 40% were high-grade (G3), and 68% were luminal B-like (HER2-negative). Systemic therapies included endocrine therapy (90%) and chemotherapy (53%). Few (5%) patients discontinued adjuvant endocrine therapy for reasons other than disease relapse or death. Patients treated with aromatase inhibitors alone had significantly shorter RFi (P < .001). OS, RFi, and BCSM were associated with disease stage, T stage, N stage, progesterone receptor expression, grade, and Ki67 index. Median OS reached 122 and 42 months in M0 and de novo M1 patients, respectively. Conclusion Due to the rarity of MBC, this study highlights important findings from real clinical practice. Although the number of patients with MBC with unfavorable features was higher in this Czech dataset than in international studies, the prognosis remains consistent with real-world evidence.

Abstract:Background. Basal cell cancer is the most common type of skin cancer in fair-skinned adults older than 50 years. The incidence rate of this disease is growing around the world. Basal cell carcinomas (BCC) are heterogeneous: from superficial or nodular lesions with benign prognosis to large lesions which are very difficult to cure. The prognosis of treatment is connected with the risk of recurrence of basal cell cancer or its local destructive ability. Hedgehog pathway activation is a distinctive molecular event in these tumors, which has allowed Hedgehog inhibitors for lesions that are difficult to cure to be developed, and which are also beyond the reach of surgical treatment or radiation therapy. Immunotherapy may be offered for the treatment of tumors with a high mutational load which leads to tumor resistance to Hedgehog inhibitors. Surgical intervention is a standard treatment method for most BCCs because it allows excision margins to be controlled and it shows a low risk of recurrence. The issue of removal of locally advanced forms with simultaneous reparative stage in elderly patients remains challenging. Purpose – to prove the high effectiveness of the surgical approach with simultaneous plastic surgery in locally advanced forms of BCC of the scalp in elderly patients. Materials and methods. Clinical observation of female patient A., 87 years old, who was receiving treatment in the Department of Surgical Oncology regarding multiple advanced BCC of facial skin, and patient V., 91 years old, who was undergoing treatment in the Department of Surgical Oncology regarding advanced basal cell skin carcinoma of the left pinna. Observation and treatment were performed in the State Organization «Grigoriev Institute for Medical Radiology and Oncology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine». Results. Clinical cases of locally advanced basal cell skin cancer in 2 elderly patients (87 and 91 years old) are presented. The effectiveness of the surgical approach with broad excision of the tumor and simultaneous reparative stage has been proven: in one case – a free split-skin autoplastic graft, in the other one – a full-thickness musculo-subcutaneous flap with axial blood circulation. In both cases there was no rejection of transplants; the scalp defects were completely covered, and a good cosmetic appearance was successfully achieved. In both cases, there were no significant complications observed. These examples have proven that the patients’ age of more than 90 years is not a counterindication to broad resections with simultaneous reparative stage in locally advanced BCC of the scalp. Conclusions. Thus, modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of BCC allow the disease to be controlled in most cases. It is also possible to cure locally advanced BCCs in patients older than 85 years surgically with a simultaneous reconstructive stage, given the reasonable selection of the patients.

Abstract:Background: Non-melanocytic benign skin tumours encompass a diverse group of lesions, classified based on their cellular origin, such as epidermal, vascular, fibrous, neural, muscle, and adnexal tumours. Though they often reveal solitary lesions, multiple skin tumours focus on genodermatoses. Each syndrome exhibits distinct clinical characteristics and potential complications, including cutaneous and extra-cutaneous malignancies, some of which are potentially life-threatening. Diagnosing genetic syndromes is complex and requires numerous histopathological and immunohistochemistry tests due to similarities between the adnexal tumours and basal cell carcinoma upon pathology. Methods: To illustrate the clinical practice, we conducted a retrospective case study that included eleven patients with genodermatoses referred to a tertiary dermatology clinic from September 2018 to April 2024. We have also conducted a research study on available treatment modalities in this setting. Results: Five patients with excellent aesthetic results were treated using a recently approved FDA plasma device. After searching SCOPUS and PubMed database records, we assessed 96 original articles to present current knowledge regarding the dermato-surgical approach. Conclusions: Multiple skin tumours, especially on the face, may significantly affect patients' quality of life and have psychological consequences. An appropriate treatment selection tailored to the patient's needs should be provided. There is no standardised treatment for multiple benign tumours in genodermatoses, and selected methods with varying efficacy are employed. We presented the utility of a new plasma device in these settings.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study 63 cases of nasal tumors treated by dermatologic surgery, and analyze their generality and characters.METHODS:The cases were analyzed with SPSS 10.0 and SAS6.12.RESULTS:The average age of the patients was 46.92 +/- 18.63. The number of man was about equal to that of women. Most cases were basal cell carcinoma (42.9%). Nevus came second (38.1%). The other cases were benign tumors. The distribution of operational locations showed the character of nasal surgery. Operations of Alar occupied 52.4%, 22.2% were on the dorsal and 15.9% on the tip. Other locations occupied 9.5%. Cases of primary close occupied 69.8%. Cases applying complex close were 30.2%. Statistic analysis illustrated that primary close was different from complex close with distribution of operational locations. The area of defects between primary close and complex close was also different. At the same time, the differentiation of applying complex close was obvious between malignant tumors and benign tumors.CONCLUSION:Skin cancers and benign tumors usually occur on the nose, so it is very important to master the techniques of plastic surgery to repair the defects of nose, besides removing tumors perfectly by the classical way of dermatologic surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Abstract:Abstract Cutaneous sarcomas comprise 5% of skin cancers yet carry great morbidity and mortality. They include atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX), pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS), leiomyosarcoma (LMS), dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) and angiosarcoma (AS) (Stoneham S, Hunter A, Raahimi M et al. Cutaneous sarcoma: a review and practical approach to management. Clin Exp Dermatol 2023; 48: 866–72). Standardized agreed national guidelines for the management of these rare tumours are lacking, and we rely on guidance from sarcoma specialists (Dangoor A, Seddon B, Gerrand C et al. UK guidelines for the management of soft tissue sarcomas. Clin Sarcoma Res 2016; 6: 20). However, these tumours are lower grade, and do not carry the same local and metastatic recurrence risk as noncutaneous sarcomas. The aim of this study at a tertiary UK centre was to review the treatment and follow-up outcomes of patients with sarcoma managed locally. All patients with biopsy-proven cutaneous sarcomas discussed at our skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) from March 2020 to January 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. Patient demographics, and histology were gathered along with the treatments offered, recurrence and follow-up outcome. All patients were restaged using the American Joint Committee on Cancer soft tissue sarcoma criteria. In total 40 patients met the criteria; their mean age at diagnosis was 70 years (range 24–91) and 25% were immunosuppressed. The cohort was followed up for an average of 11.3 weeks (range 1–36). The diagnoses included PDS (35%), AFX (20%), LMS (20%), DFSP (15%) and AS (5%); all but one had T1 or T2 disease. Overall, 97% of patients received surgery first line, with a clearance rate of 85% (29 of 34). Two patients had recurrence: one with PDS, requiring further surgery, and one with AS, who was managed at a sarcoma unit. There were no metastases reported or deaths due to disease. Most patients (80%) remain in clinical remission. Appropriate imaging and follow-up recommendations were made in most cases, according to their diagnosis. In summary, many of the patients with cutaneous sarcoma in the study had superficial disease. Despite our conservative surgical margins offered and a short duration of follow-up, we observed a 5% recurrence rate with no metastases. This study highlights the importance of an MDT approach to cutaneous sarcomas, which helps draw expertise from different specialties. Our lower recurrence rate and metastases compared with literature suggests that patients with cutaneous sarcoma could be safely managed in local skin cancer MDTs. We propose national guidance to help similar skin cancer MDTs and clinicians to standardize and reduce variation in care, as well as to provide an evidence base on which to recommend monitoring of this rare group of tumours.

Enhancing Cosmesis While Achieving High Cure Rates For Early Stage Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer In The Outpatient Dermatology Clinic Using A Novel Non-Invasive Modality

Abstract:Introduction: Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC) is generally treated in dermatology offices using surgical techniques.Objectives: We evaluate the feasibility, tolerance, effectiveness and cosmesis using an office-based non-surgical modality for NMSC.Methods: 93 patients with 133 pathologically confirmed early stage invasive and in-situ NMSC lesions treated with Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (IGSRT) were retrospectively analyzed. All lesions received a median of twenty fractions of 50 or 70 kilovoltage(kV) IGSRT. Energy selection and subsequent kV changes were determined by ultrasound imaging. RTOG toxicity scoring was used. Treatment interruption was defined as greater than 2 weeks. Results: Median age was 69. At an average follow-up of 16.23 months, 92 of 93 patients were alive. One patient expired from unrelated causes while no evidence of disease (NED). 132 of 133 lesions achieved local control (LC) with one lesion recurring at 12.9 months. Absolute LC was 99.2%, overall Kaplan-Meier LC (KM LC) was 98.95% at 30.8 months, and Disease Free Survival (DFS) was 100%. Acute toxicities were mild with RTOG grades 0, 1 or 2 in all lesions with no grade 3 or 4 toxicity. Cosmesis was felt to be excellent or very good (VG) by the clinicians with no fair/poor cosmesis. There were no severe toxicities or complications requiring treatment interruptions.Conclusions: Office based IGSRT is feasible, safe, easily tolerable, and highly effective. Patients receiving IGSRT achieve excellent/VG cosmesis and welcome this nonsurgical option. IGSRT is an attractive non-invasive therapeutic option for NMSC and provides another valuable tool for dermatologists.

Abstract:Abstract Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) are the most common malignancies diagnosed in Caucasian populations. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent skin cancer, followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Unfortunately, most European cancer registries do not record individual types of NMSC. To evaluate the incidence of primary BCCs and SCCs regarding age, sex, tumour site and tumour subtype to determine trends in epidemiology of both cancers. Retrospective analysis of BCCs and SCCs diagnosed and treated across seven sites in Poland from 1999 to 2019. We recorded 13,913 NMSCs occurring in 10,083 patients. BCC represented 85.2% of all cases. SCC patients were older than BCC patients (77.1 ± 11.3 years vs. 70.1 ± 12.3 years, p < 0.01). The nodular subtype was the most common subtype of BCC, followed by the superficial and infiltrative subtypes. The superficial BCC subtype was more common on photoprotected areas ( p < 0.01), whereas the nodular BCC subtype occurred on the face ( p < 0.01). The high-risk SCC subtypes were more common on face compared to low-risk SCC subtypes ( p < 0.01). BCC and SCC are common malignancies developing at various ages and anatomical sites. These data underline the need for better registration policies regarding NMSC in order to improve prevention and treatment strategies for these tumours.
