Abstract:Dysprosium titanate nanopowders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis using anatase and dysprosium oxide as initial reagents. The crystal structure of mechanochemically synthesized dysprosium titanate is characterized, first of all, by high-temperature cubic modification and the particle size of the powder under study. According to experimental results, the mechanical properties of products made from mechanically synthesized powders are compared to the parameters of industrial powders produced by melting, grinding, compaction, and sintering. Dysprosium titanate is the product of mechanochemically activated synthesis used to produce mixtures, solid solutions, and amorphous powders. Mechanochemical synthesis is carried out in an activator mill in an argon atmosphere under pressure. Special devices are used to evaluate various technological parameters of powder particles. The complete transformation of the initial oxides to an X‐ray amorphous product occurs after mechanochemical treatment. Mechanically synthesized powders acquire a hierarchical structure: agglomerates consist of smaller subagglomerates. The effectiveness of the methods is determined by the particle-size distribution of powders obtained by alternative methods. Regular relationships between the relative density of mechanosynthesized dysprosium titanate and the compaction pressure are established experimentally. The differences in the compactability of dysprosium-titanate powders produced by the compared methods are determined. Hardness and compressive strength are the most important mechanical properties of dysprosium-titanate powder. The obtained data are important for improving the performance of products based on dysprosium titanate.
