Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of statistical models to deal with the data sets in the sports and health sectors. The new class is called, a novel exponent power-Y (NovEP-Y) family of distributions. By implementing the NovEP-Y approach, a new model, namely, a novel exponent power-Weibull (NovEP-Weibull) distribution is introduced. Some distributional properties of the NovEP-Y family such as identifiability, order statistics, quantile function, and moments are obtained. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters are also derived. Furthermore, a brief Monto Carlo simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performances of the estimators. To show the applicability of the NovEP-Weibull model, two data sets from the sports and health sciences are considered. The first data set represents the time-to-even data collected from different football matches during the period 1964–2018. Whereas, the second data set is taken from the health sector, representing the survival times of the COVID-19 infected patients. Based on some well-known statistical tests, it is observed that the NovEP-Weibull model is a very competitive distribution for modeling the data sets in the sports and health sectors.

Abstract:In this article, an attempt is made to propose a novel method of lifetime distributions with maximum flexibility using a popular T–X approach together with an exponential distribution, which is known as the New Generalized Logarithmic-X Family (NGLog–X for short) of distributions. Additionally, the generalized form of the Weibull distribution was derived by using the NGLog–X family, known as the New Generalized Logarithmic Weibull (NGLog–Weib) distribution. For the proposed method, some statistical properties, including the moments, moment generating function (MGF), residual and reverse residual life, identifiability, order statistics, and quantile functions, were derived. The estimation of the model parameters was derived by using the well-known method of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). A comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study (MCSS) was carried out to evaluate the performance of these estimators by computing the biases and mean square errors. Finally, the NGLog–Weib distribution was implemented on four real biomedical datasets and compared with some other distributions, such as the Alpha Power Transformed Weibull distribution, Marshal Olkin Weibull distribution, New Exponent Power Weibull distribution, Flexible Reduced Logarithmic Weibull distribution, and Kumaraswamy Weibull distribution. The analysis results demonstrate that the new proposed model performs as a better fit than the other competitive distributions.

Abstract:This paper aims to introduce a novel family of probability distributions by the well-known method of the T–X family of distributions. The proposed family is called a "Novel Generalized Exponent Power X Family" of distributions. A three-parameters special sub-model of the proposed method is derived and named a "Novel Generalized Exponent Power Weibull" distribution (NGEP-Wei for short). For the proposed family, some statistical properties are derived including the hazard rate function, moments, moment generating function, order statistics, residual life, and reverse residual life. The well-known method of estimation, the maximum likelihood estimation method is used for estimating the model parameters. Besides, a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the efficacy of this estimation method. Finally, the model selection criterion such as Akaike information criterion (AINC), the correct information criterion (CINC), the Bayesian information criterion (BINC), the Hannan–Quinn information criterion (HQINC), the Cramer–von-Misses (CRMI), and the ANDA (Anderson–Darling) are used for comparison purpose. The comparison of the NGEP-Wei with other rival distributions is made by Two COVID-19 data sets. In terms of performance, we show that the proposed method outperforms the other competing methods included in this study.

Abstract:Current probability distributions often fall short when modeling lifespan data with non-monotonic hazard rate shapes, highlighting a gap in probability theory. To address this issue, this study introduces the novel family of probability-generating distributions (NP-G) as a solution to capture complex data patterns better. This research aims to develop and validate the NP-G distributions, which include a two-parameter continuous model based on the Weibull distribution. The study extensively explores the mathematical properties of the NP-G distributions, including series expansions of probability density functions, and evaluates various probabilistic measures such as moments, stress strength, mean deviations, entropy measures, and order statistics. Using the maximum likelihood method for parameter estimation and conducting a numerical simulation analysis, the study assesses the performance of the proposed extended exponentiated Weibull model. The findings demonstrate that this new model offers superior fit and accuracy compared to existing distributions when applied to two referenced datasets. This advancement is significant as it provides a more effective tool for analyzing lifespan data with non-monotonic hazard rates, enhancing both theoretical understanding and practical applications in fields such as reliability engineering and survival analysis.

Abstract:Cocrystal structures of wild-type TATA box-binding protein (TBP) recognizing 10 naturally occurring TATA elements have been determined at 2.3-1.8 A resolution, and compared with our 1.9 A resolution structure of TBP bound to the Adenovirus major late promoter (AdMLP) TATA box (5'-TATAAAAG-3'). Minor-groove recognition by the saddle-shaped protein induces the same conformational change in each of these oligonucleotides, despite variations in promoter sequence that reduce the efficiency of transcription initiation. Three molecular mechanisms explain assembly of diverse TBP-TATA element complexes. (1) T --> A and A --> T transversions leave the minor-groove face unchanged, permitting formation of TBP-DNA complexes on many A/T-rich core promoter sequences. (2) Cavities in the interface between TBP and the minor-groove face of the AdMLP TATA box accommodate the exocyclic NH(2) groups of G in a TACA box and in a TATAAG box. (3) Formation of a C:G Hoogsteen basepair in a TATAAAC box eliminates steric clashes that would be produced by the Watson-Crick base pair. We conclude that the structure of the TBP-TATA box complex found at the heart of the polymerase II (pol II) transcription machinery has remained constant over the course of evolution, despite variations in TBP and its DNA targets.
A Novel Discrete Linear-Exponential Distribution for Modeling Physical and Medical Data

Abstract:In real-life data, count data are considered more significant in different fields. In this article, a new form of the one-parameter discrete linear-exponential distribution is derived based on the survival function as a discretization technique. An extensive study of this distribution is conducted under its new form, including characteristic functions and statistical properties. It is shown that this distribution is appropriate for modeling over-dispersed count data. Moreover, its probability mass function is right-skewed with different shapes. The unknown model parameter is estimated using the maximum likelihood method, with more attention given to Bayesian estimation methods. The Bayesian estimator is computed based on three different loss functions: a square error loss function, a linear exponential loss function, and a generalized entropy loss function. The simulation study is implemented to examine the distribution's behavior and compare the classical and Bayesian estimation methods, which indicated that the Bayesian method under the generalized entropy loss function with positive weight is the best for all sample sizes with the minimum mean squared errors. Finally, the discrete linear-exponential distribution proves its efficiency in fitting discrete physical and medical lifetime count data in real-life against other related distributions.

Abstract:Primary and metastatic pleural neoplasms, and non‐neoplastic pleural diseases, can have similar clinical, radiographic and gross features. However, treatments and prognoses of these diverse pleural conditions vary greatly. Accurate diagnosis of pleural disease is therefore extremely important, and histological interpretation of pleural biopsies is vital to rendering an accurate diagnosis. Smaller biopsies contribute to the difficulties in accurately characterizing pleural lesions, and immunostains are frequently employed in their assessment. Diffuse malignant mesothelioma, the most common primary pulmonary neoplasm, is rare; however, other less common primary pleural neoplasms, including solitary fibrous tumour, the most common benign primary pleural neoplasm, occur. These neoplasms are discussed. Also, non‐neoplastic pleural diseases, including granulomatous pleuritis, eosinophilic pleuritis and fibrous and fibrinous pleuritis, among other diseases, are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of distributions by compounding the exponentiated extended Weibull family and power series family. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as the complementary extended Weibull-power series, generalized exponential-power series, generalized linear failure rate-power series, exponentiated Weibull-power series, generalized modified Weibull-power series, generalized Gompertz-power series and exponentiated extended Weibull distributions as special cases. We obtain several properties of this new class of distributions such as Shannon entropy, mean residual life, hazard rate function, quantiles and moments. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure via a EM-algorithm is presented.

Abstract:Well-known continuous distributions such as Beta and Kumaraswamy distribution are useful for modeling the datasets which are based on unit interval [0,1]. But every distribution is not always useful for all types of data sets, rather it depends on the shapes of data as well. In this research, a three-parameter new distribution named bounded exponentiated Weibull (BEW) distribution is defined to model the data set with the support of unit interval [0,1]. Some fundamental distributional properties for the BEW distribution have been investigated. For modeling dependence between measures in a dataset, a bivariate extension of the BEW distribution is developed, and graphical shapes for the bivariate BEW distribution have been shown. Several estimation methods have been discussed to estimate the parameters of the BEW distribution and to check the performance of the estimator, a Monte Carlo simulation study has been done. Afterward, the applications of the BEW distribution are illustrated using COVID-19 data sets. The proposed distribution shows a better fit than many well-known distributions. Lastly, a quantile regression model from bounded exponentiated Weibull distribution is developed, and its graphical shapes for the probability density function (PDF) and hazard function have been shown.

Abstract:In this paper, a new family of distributions, called the additive modified Weibull odd log-logistic-G Poisson distribution, is proposed and studied. Some mathematical properties are presented and special models are discussed. We derive a power series for the quantile function, explicit expressions for the moments, quantile and generating functions and order statistics. we also consider some estimators of the PDF and the survival function of the new family such as: maximum likelihood estimator, percentile estimator, least squares estimator and weighted least squares estimator. Simulation studies and real data application are also considered for performance of the new family and comparing these estimators.

Abstract:Active 18S and 25S ribosomal RNAs were produced in trans in yeast, from plasmids containing RNA polymerase II transcription signals and rDNA fragments with unique hybridization tags. Analyses were carried out in cells with temperature-sensitive RNA polymerase I. Functional rRNAs were derived from separate 18S and 5.8/25S rRNA coding units, however, active 25S rRNA could be produced only by cotranscription with 5.8S rRNA. The results demonstrate that the polycistronic organization of the large rDNA operon is not required for successful processing of rRNA or assembly of functional ribosomes. The split operon system should facilitate future efforts to dissect eukaryotic ribosome biogenesis.

Abstract:We introduce a new class of distributions called the epsilon–positive family, which can be viewed as generalization of the distributions with positive support. The construction of the epsilon–positive family is motivated by the ideas behind the generation of skew distributions using symmetric kernels. This new class of distributions has as special cases the exponential, Weibull, log–normal, log–logistic and gamma distributions, and it provides an alternative for analyzing reliability and survival data. An interesting feature of the epsilon–positive family is that it can viewed as a finite scale mixture of positive distributions, facilitating the derivation and implementation of EM–type algorithms to obtain maximum likelihood estimates (MLE) with (un)censored data. We illustrate the flexibility of this family to analyze censored and uncensored data using two real examples. One of them was previously discussed in the literature; the second one consists of a new application to model recidivism data of a group of inmates released from the Chilean prisons during 2007. The results show that this new family of distributions has a better performance fitting the data than some common alternatives such as the exponential distribution.

Abstract:We propose a new class of distributions called the exponentiated G geometric family motivated mainly by lifetime issues which can generate several lifetime models discussed in the literature. Some mathematical properties of the new family including asymptotes and shapes, moments, quantile and generating functions, extreme values and order statistics are fully investigated. We propose the log-exponentiated Weibull geometric and log-exponentiated log-logistic geometric regression models to cope with censored data. The model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood. Three examples with real data expose quite well the new family.

Abstract:A fully parametric family of distributions called the new generalized family (NGF) is proposed. The cumulative distribution function of the proposed NGF is constructed based on the reciprocal of the hazard rate function. Furthermore, a special sub-family called the new generalized Pareto (NGP) family is also addressed. A special sub-model of the NGP class called the new Kumaraswamy Pareto (NKP) distribution is introduced. The NKP model provides flexible shapes for its hazard and density functions. The properties of the NKP distribution are derived. In addition, the inferences under complete and bootstrapped samples of the NKP parameters are addressed. Monte Carlo simulation studies are also performed to explore the behavior of different estimators. Three real-life datasets are fitted using the NKP distribution, showing the superiority fit of the proposed statistical model.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new approach to generate flexible parametric families of distributions. These models arise on competitive and complementary risks scenario, in which the lifetime associated with a particular risk is not observable, rather, we observe only the minimum/maximum lifetime value among all risks. The latent variables have a zero truncated Poisson distribution. For the proposed family of distribution, the extra shape parameter has an important physical interpretation in the competing and complementary risks scenario. The mathematical properties and inferential procedures are discussed. The proposed approach is applied in some existing distributions in which it is fully illustrated by an important data set.

Abstract:The skew distribution has the characteristic of appropriately modeling asymmetric unimodal data. However, in practice, there are several cases in which the data present more than one mode. In the literature, it is possible to find a large number of authors who have studied extensions based on the skew distribution to model this type of data. In this article, a new family is introduced, consisting of a multimodal modification to the family of skew distributions. Using the methodology of the weighted version of a function, we perform the product of the density function of a family of skew distributions with a polynomial of degree 4, thus obtaining a more flexible model that allows modeling data sets, whose distribution contains at most three modes. The density function, some properties, moments, skewness coefficients, and kurtosis of this new family are presented. This study focuses on the particular cases of skew-normal and Laplace distributions, although it can be applied to any other distribution. A simulation study was carried out, to study the behavior of the model parameter estimates. Illustrations with real data, referring to medicine and environmental data, show the practical performance of the proposed model in the two particular cases presented.

Abstract:In this article, we describe a new Marshall-Olkin family of distributions based on the Marshall-Olkin family of distributions by employing a different generator. We have derived several statistical properties of the new Marshall-Olkin family, including survival function, hazard rate function, quantile function, moments, and linear representation. We have taken the Weibull distribution as a baseline distribution and found that the new Marshall-Olkin Weibull distribution exhibits a variety of shapes for its hazard rates and densities. We have tested the performance of various estimation methods for the new Marshall-Olkin family of distributions, including eight different estimation methods. Additionally, we conducted extensive simulations to assess the robustness of the estimation methods across various scenarios and determine which methods are most effective for varying sample sizes. To further validate the new Marshall-Olkin Weibull distribution, we have used two different data sets to compare the fitted new Marshall-Olkin Weibull distribution with the well-known comparative models. By testing the performance of different estimation methods and using multiple data sets, we can demonstrate the versatility and usefulness of the new Marshall-Olkin family of distributions for modeling a wide range of phenomena.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce a new three-parameter distribution called the discrete Weibull exponential (DWE) distribution, based on the use of a discretization technique for the Weibull-G family of distributions. This distribution is noteworthy, as its probability mass function presents both symmetric and asymmetric shapes. In addition, its related hazard function is tractable, exhibiting a wide range of shapes, including increasing, increasing–constant, uniform, monotonically increasing, and reversed J-shaped. We also discuss some of the properties of the proposed distribution, such as the moments, moment-generating function, dispersion index, Rényi entropy, and order statistics. The maximum likelihood method is employed to estimate the model's unknown parameters, and these estimates are evaluated through simulation studies. Additionally, the effectiveness of the model is examined by applying it to three real data sets. The results demonstrate that, in comparison to the other considered distributions, the proposed distribution provides a better fit to the data.
