Abstract:The concept of length-biased distribution can be employed in the development of proper models for the lifetime data. Length-biased distribution is a special case of the more general form known as the weighted distribution. This article introduces a new class of Maxwell length-biased distribution. The statistical properties of the proposed distribution are determined, including shape, kth moment, reliability function, hazard function, reverse hazard function, and so on. The maximum likelihood estimate (MLE), method of moments (MM) estimate, and Bayesian estimate of the unknown parameter are derived. An illustrative example demonstrates the application of the proposed distribution in real life.

Abstract:Families of mixtures of multivariate power exponential (MPE) distributions have been previously introduced and shown to be competitive for cluster analysis in comparison to other elliptical mixtures including mixtures of Gaussian distributions. Herein, we propose a family of mixtures of multivariate skewed power exponential distributions to combine the flexibility of the MPE distribution with the ability to model skewness. These mixtures are more robust to variations from normality and can account for skewness, varying tail weight, and peakedness of data. A generalized expectation-maximization approach combining minorization-maximization and optimization based on accelerated line search algorithms on the Stiefel manifold is used for parameter estimation. These mixtures are implemented both in the model-based clustering and classification frameworks. Both simulated and benchmark data are used for illustration and comparison to other mixture families.

Abstract:It is widely believed that the power-law is a proper probability distribution being effectively applied for evolution in tau-EO (extremal optimization), a general-purpose stochastic local-search approach inspired by self-organized criticality, and its applications in some NP-hard problems, e.g., graph partitioning, graph coloring, spill glass, etc. In this study, we discover that the exponential distributions or hybrid ones (e.g., power-laws with exponential cutoff) being popularly used in the research of network sciences may replace the original power-laws in a modified tau-EO method called self-organized algorithm (SOA), and provide better performances than other statistical physics oriented methods, such as simulated annealing, tau-EO and SOA etc., from the experimental results on random Euclidean traveling salesman problems (TSP) and non-uniform instances. From the perspective of optimization, our results appear to demonstrate that the power-law is not the only proper probability distribution for evolution in EO-similar methods at least for TSP, the exponential and hybrid distributions may be other choices. Abstract:Introducing the Inverse Power Perk distribution, this paper presents a versatile probability distribution designed to model positively skewed data with unprecedented flexibility. Building upon the Perk distribution, it accommodates a wide range of shapes including right-skewed, J-shaped, reversed J-shaped, and nearly symmetric densities, as well as hazard rates exhibiting various patterns of increase and decrease. The paper delves into the mathematical properties of this novel distribution and offers a comprehensive overview of estimation techniques, including maximum likelihood estimators, ordinary least square estimators, percentile-based estimators, maximum product of spacing estimators, Cramer-von Mises, weighted least squares estimators, and Anderson-Darling estimators. To assess the performance of these estimation methods across different sample sizes, Monte Carlo simulations are conducted. Through comparisons of average absolute error and mean squared error, the efficacy of each estimator is evaluated, shedding light on their suitability for both small and large samples. In a practical application, three real datasets, including insurance data, are employed to demonstrate the versatility of the current model, when comparing to existing alternatives. The IPP distribution offers significant advantages over traditional distributions, particularly in its superior ability to model tail risks, making it an invaluable tool for practitioners dealing with extreme values and rare events. Its computational efficiency further sets it apart, enabling more robust and faster analysis in large-scale datasets. This empirical analysis further underscores the utility and adaptability of the Inverse Power Perk model in capturing the nuances of diverse datasets, thereby offering valuable insights for practitioners in various fields.

Abstract:In this research, we investigate a brand-new two-parameter distribution as an extension of the power Zeghdoudi distribution (PZD). Using the inverse transformation technique on the PZD, the produced distribution is called the inverted PZD (IPZD). Its usefulness in producing symmetric and asymmetric probability density functions makes it the perfect choice for lifetime phenomenon mod- eling. It is also appropriate for a range of real data since the relevant hazard rate function has one of the following shapes: increasing, decreasing, reverse j-shape or upside-down shape. Mode, quantiles, moments, geometric mean, inverse moments, incomplete moments, distribution of order statistics, Lorenz, Bonferroni, and Zenga curves are a few of the significant characteristics and aspects explored in our study along with some graphical representations. Twelve effective estimating techniques are used to determine the distribution parameters of the IPZD. These include the Kolmogorov, least squares (LS), a maximum product of spacing, Anderson-Darling (AD), maximum likelihood, mini- mum absolute spacing distance, right-tail AD, minimum absolute spacing-log distance, weighted LS, left-tailed AD, Cram ́er-von Mises, AD left-tail second-order. A Monte Carlo simulation is used to examine the effectiveness of the obtained estimates. The visual representation and numerical results show that the maximum likelihood estimation strategy regularly beats the other methods in terms of accuracy when estimating the relevant parameters. The usefulness of the recommended distribution for modelling data is illustrated and displayed visually using two real data sets and comparisons with other distributions.

Abstract:The present report describes the successful treatment of cerebral symptomatic vasospasm (SVS) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with super-selective intra-arterial infusion of fasudil hydrochloride (ERIL®). We treated seventeen vascular territories in 12 patients with selective intra-arterial infusion of fasudil hydrochloride (FSD). FSD was infused through a catheter (a microcatheter in nine patients) at a rate of 1.0 to 1.5 mg / minute (total dose = 30 to 60 mg / 1 vessel) for each vascular territory. Nineteen vascular territories (100%) were angiographically dilated and seven patients (58%) showed early improvement in neurological function after the procedure.

Abstract:Progressive type-II (Prog-II) censoring schemes are gaining traction in estimating the parameters, and reliability characteristics of lifetime distributions. The focus of this paper is to enhance the accuracy and reliability of such estimations for the inverse power exponentiated Pareto (IPEP) distribution, a flexible extension of the exponentiated Pareto distribution suitable for modeling engineering and medical data. We aim to develop novel statistical inference methods applicable under Prog-II censoring, leading to a deeper understanding of failure time behavior, improved decision-making, and enhanced overall model reliability. Our investigation employs both classical and Bayesian approaches. The classical technique involves constructing maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters and their bootstrap covariance intervals. Using the Gibbs process constructed by the Metropolis–Hasting sampler technique, the Markov chain Monte Carlo method provides Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameters. In addition, an actual data analysis is carried out to examine the estimation process's performance under this ideal scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, a new generalization of the Generalized Pareto distribution is proposed using the generator suggested in [1], named as Khalil Extended Generalized Pareto (KEGP) distribution. Various shapes of the suggested model and important mathematical properties are investigated that includes moments, quantile function, moment-generating function, measures of entropy, and order statistics. Parametric estimation of the model is discussed using the technique of maximum likelihood. A simulation study is performed for the assessment of the maximum likelihood estimates in terms of their bias and mean squared error using simulated sample estimates. The practical applications are illustrated via two real data sets from survival and reliability theory. The suggested model provided better fits than the other considered models.

Abstract:This article defines a new distribution using a novel alpha power-transformed method extension. The model obtained has three parameters and is quite effective in modeling skewed, complex, symmetric, and asymmetric datasets. The new approach has one additional parameter for the model. Certain distributional and mathematical properties are investigated, notably reliability, quartile, moments, skewness, kurtosis, and order statistics, and several approaches of estimation, notably the maximum likelihood, least square, weighted least square, maximum product spacing, Cramer-Von Mises, and Anderson Darling estimators of the model parameters were obtained. A Monte Carlo simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed techniques of estimation of the model parameters. The actuarial measures are computed for our recommended model. At the end of the paper, two insurance applications are illustrated to check the potential and utility of the suggested distribution. Evaluation using four selection criteria indicates that our recommended model is the most appropriate probability model for modeling insurance datasets.

Abstract:Primary and metastatic pleural neoplasms, and non‐neoplastic pleural diseases, can have similar clinical, radiographic and gross features. However, treatments and prognoses of these diverse pleural conditions vary greatly. Accurate diagnosis of pleural disease is therefore extremely important, and histological interpretation of pleural biopsies is vital to rendering an accurate diagnosis. Smaller biopsies contribute to the difficulties in accurately characterizing pleural lesions, and immunostains are frequently employed in their assessment. Diffuse malignant mesothelioma, the most common primary pulmonary neoplasm, is rare; however, other less common primary pleural neoplasms, including solitary fibrous tumour, the most common benign primary pleural neoplasm, occur. These neoplasms are discussed. Also, non‐neoplastic pleural diseases, including granulomatous pleuritis, eosinophilic pleuritis and fibrous and fibrinous pleuritis, among other diseases, are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize two new statistical distributions, to improve the ability to model failure rates with non-monotonic, monotonic, and mainly bathtub curve behaviors. We call these distributions Generalized Powered Uniform Distribution and MOE-Powered Uniform. The proposed distributions' approach is based on incorporating a parameter k in the power of the values of the random variables, which is associated with the Probability Density Function and includes an operator called the Powered Mean. Various statistical and mathematical features focused on reliability analysis are presented and discussed, to make the models attractive to reliability engineering or medicine specialists. We employed the Maximum Likelihood Estimator method to estimate the model parameters and we analyzed its performance through a Monte Carlo simulation study. To demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed approach, a comparative analysis was carried out on four case studies with the proposed MOE-Powered Uniform distribution, which can model failure times as a bathtub curve. The results showed that this new model is more flexible and useful for performing reliability analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of distributions by compounding the exponentiated extended Weibull family and power series family. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as the complementary extended Weibull-power series, generalized exponential-power series, generalized linear failure rate-power series, exponentiated Weibull-power series, generalized modified Weibull-power series, generalized Gompertz-power series and exponentiated extended Weibull distributions as special cases. We obtain several properties of this new class of distributions such as Shannon entropy, mean residual life, hazard rate function, quantiles and moments. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure via a EM-algorithm is presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of statistical models to deal with the data sets in the sports and health sectors. The new class is called, a novel exponent power-Y (NovEP-Y) family of distributions. By implementing the NovEP-Y approach, a new model, namely, a novel exponent power-Weibull (NovEP-Weibull) distribution is introduced. Some distributional properties of the NovEP-Y family such as identifiability, order statistics, quantile function, and moments are obtained. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters are also derived. Furthermore, a brief Monto Carlo simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performances of the estimators. To show the applicability of the NovEP-Weibull model, two data sets from the sports and health sciences are considered. The first data set represents the time-to-even data collected from different football matches during the period 1964–2018. Whereas, the second data set is taken from the health sector, representing the survival times of the COVID-19 infected patients. Based on some well-known statistical tests, it is observed that the NovEP-Weibull model is a very competitive distribution for modeling the data sets in the sports and health sectors.

Abstract:This research commences a unit statistical model named power new power function distribution, exhibiting a thorough analysis of its complementary properties. We investigate the advantages of the new model, and some fundamental distributional properties are derived. The study aims to improve insight and application by presenting quantitative and qualitative perceptions. To estimate the three unknown parameters of the model, we carefully examine various methods: the maximum likelihood, least squares, weighted least squares, Anderson–Darling, and Cramér-von Mises. Through a Monte Carlo simulation experiment, we quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of these estimation methods, extending a robust evaluation framework. A unique part of this research lies in developing a novel regressive analysis based on the proposed distribution. The application of this analysis reveals new viewpoints and improves the benefit of the model in practical situations. As the emphasis of the study is primarily on practical applications, the viability of the proposed model is assessed through the analysis of real datasets sourced from diverse fields.

Abstract:In realistic power system state estimation, the distribution of measurement noise is usually assumed to be Gaussian while many researcher have verified that it can be non-Gaussian. In this paper, a new robust state estimator based on exponential absolute value function is proposed to address the non-Gaussian measurement noise and outliers. The influence function, a robust statistics tool, is used to obtain the state estimates to reduce its computational burden. A state estimation mean squared error formula of the proposed robust estimator is derived which can be used as a reference in the wide area monitoring system design or upgrade. Simulation results obtained from the IEEE 30-bus, 118-bus and 300-bus systems verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed robust estimator.

Abstract:A new continuous distribution is introduced by compounding exponentiated exponential and binomial distributions, named as exponentiated exponential binomial (EEB) distribution. This distribution has the ability to model lifetime data with increasing, decreasing and upside-down bathtub shaped failure rates. Moreover, the zero-truncated binomial distribution used in compounding is overdispersed. Some properties of the distribution are investigated. Estimation and inference procedure for the distribution parameters are discussed. An application to real data demonstrates that the EEB distribution can provide a better fit than a recent class of lifetime distributions.

Abstract:We introduced a flexible class of continuous distributions called the generalized Kavya-Manoharan-G (GKM-G) family. The GKM-G family extended the Kavya-Manoharan class and provided greater flexibility to the baseline models. The special sub-models of the GKM-G family are capable of modeling monotone and non-monotone failure rates including increasing, reversed J shape, decreasing, bathtub, modified bathtub, and upside-down bathtub. Some properties of the family were studied. The GKM-exponential (GKME) distribution was studied in detail. Eight methods of estimation were used for estimating the GKME parameters. The performance of the estimators was assessed by simulation studies under small and large samples. Furthermore, the flexibility of the two-parameter GKME distribution was explored by analyzing five real-life data applications from applied fields such as medicine, environment, and reliability. The data analysis showed that the GKME distribution outperforms other competing exponential models.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the exponentiated Weibull power series (EWPS) class of distributions which is obtained by compounding exponentiated Weibull and power series distributions, where the compounding procedure follows same way that was previously carried out by Roman et al. (2010) and Cancho et al. (2011) in introducing the complementary exponential-geometric (CEG) and the two-parameter Poisson-exponential (PE) lifetime distributions, respectively. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as: exponentiated weibull-geometric (EWG), exponentiated weibull-binomial (EWB), exponentiated weibull-poisson (EWP), exponentiated weibull-logarithmic (EWL) distributions as a special case. The hazard rate function of the EWPS distribution can be increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped and unimodal failure rate among others. We obtain several properties of the EWPS distribution such as its probability density function, its reliability and failure rate functions, quantiles and moments. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure via a EM-algorithm is presented in this paper. Sub-models of the EWPS distribution are studied in details. In the end, Applications to two real data sets are given to show the flexibility and potentiality of the EWPS distribution.

Abstract:The intertwining relationship between sustainability and discrete probability distributions found its significance in decision-making processes and risk assessment frameworks. Count data modeling and its practical applications have gained attention in numerous research studies. This investigation focused on a particular discrete distribution characterized by a single parameter obtained through the survival discretization method. Statistical attributes of this distribution were accurately explicated using generalized hypergeometric functions. The unveiled characteristics highlighted its suitability for analyzing data displaying "right-skewed" asymmetry and possessing extended "heavy" tails. Its failure rate function effectively addressed scenarios marked by a consistent decrease in rates. Furthermore, it proved to be a valuable tool for probabilistic modeling of over-dispersed data. The study introduced various estimation methods such as maximum product of spacings, Anderson-Darling, right-tail Anderson-Darling, maximum likelihood, least-squares, weighted least-squares, percentile, and Cramer-Von-Mises, offering comprehensive explanations. A ranking simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of these estimators, employing ranking techniques to identify the most effective estimator across different sample sizes. Finally, real-world sustainability engineering and medical datasets were analyzed to demonstrate the significance and application of the newly introduced model.
