Abstract:Summary Many studies have identified regions within human ventral visual stream to be important for object identification and categorization; however, knowledge of how perceptual information is communicated within the visual network is still limited. Current theories posit that if a high correspondence between incoming sensory information and internal representations exists, then the object is rapidly identified, and if there is not, then the object requires extra detailed processing. Event-related responses from the present magnetoencephalography study showed two main effects. The N1m peak latencies were approximately 15 milliseconds earlier to familiar letters than to unfamiliar pseudoletters, and the N2m was more negative to pseudoletters than to letters. Event-related beamforming analyses identified these effects to be within bilateral visual cortices with a right lateralization for the N2m effect. Furthermore, functional connectivity analyses revealed that gamma-band (50–80 Hz) oscillatory phase synchronizations among occipital regions were greater to letters than to pseudoletters (around 85 milliseconds). However, during a later time interval between 245 and 375 milliseconds, pseudoletters elicited greater gamma-band phase synchronizations among a more distributed occipital network than did letters. These findings indicate that familiar object processing begins by at least 85 milliseconds, which could represent an initial match to an internal template. In addition, unfamiliar object processing persisted longer than that for familiar objects, which could reflect greater attention to inexperienced objects to determine their identity and/or to consolidate a new template to aid in future identification.
Influence of 3D-printing method, resin material, and sterilization on the accuracy of virtually designed surgical implant guides

Abstract:Statement of problem: Three-dimensional printing has introduced new manufacturing methods. However, information on the influence of the specific printing technology, material, sterilization, and the comparison between printing and milling on the accuracy of surgical guides is lacking. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of the manufacturing method (printing and milling), printing technology stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP), material, and sterilization on the accuracy of digitally designed surgical implant guides. Material and methods: Resin patient replicas with a single edentulous space were used to place 132 implants with digitally designed surgical guides. The accuracy of postoperative implant position was analyzed for the manufacturing method (printing and milling), resin materials, and preoperative autoclaving. To determine 3D accuracy, angular displacement, mean horizontal crestal, apical displacement, and the linear vertical displacement at the apex were calculated separately for each group (n=12). In addition, the surgical guides were qualitatively analyzed by using field emission scanning electron micrograph. Results: The postoperative angular deviation ranged from 0.76 ±0.52 degrees (Rapidshape D20II with NextDent SG) to 2.43 ±0.64 degrees (Form2 with NextDent SG) (P<.001). Linear horizontal displacement at the crest was smallest for Rapidshape D20II with 3Delta Guide (0.27 ±0.08 mm) and highest for Form2 with NextDent SG (0.54 ±0.10 mm) (P<.001). Linear horizontal displacement at the apex ranged from 0.36 ±0.10 mm (SolFlex 350 with V-Print SG) to 0.89 ±0.32 mm (Form2 with NextDent SG) (P<.001). Considering the vertical position displacement was no more than 0.43 ±0.07 mm (Form2 with NextDent SG) short of the apex, none of the implant tips were displaced apically. Preoperative autoclaving differentially impaired the accuracy of surgical guides. Conclusions: The specific manufacturing technique, the 3D printing device, the resin material, and the application of preoperative sterilization all affected the accuracy of the postoperative implant position. Irrespective of the manufacturing method, all implants were placed within the commonly accepted safety distance.

Abstract:Purpose To compare the accuracy of chairside, fused deposition modeling (FDM) three-dimensional (3D)-printed surgical guides with that of stereolithographic guides for implant placement in single edentulous sites within a clinical setting. Materials and Methods A total of 28 participants with 30 single posterior edentulous sites were included. The sites were randomized into a FDM 3D-printed surgical guide group (test) or stereolithographic guide group (control) of equal size (n = 15). In both groups, digital implant planning was performed using data from cone beam-computed tomography and intraoral scans. The test group's surgical guides were fabricated using a chairside, FDM 3D-printer; those in the control group were fabricated using a light-curing 3D-printer. Postoperative intraoral scans were used to obtain the 3D position of the implants. Compared to preoperative design, the angular, 3D, mesiodistal, buccolingual and apicocoronal deviations at the implant shoulder and apex were recorded. Results The workflow for the design and chairside fabrication of implant guides was established. The mean angular deviations of the test and control group were (4.23 +/- 2.38) degrees and (4.13 +/- 2.42) degrees (p > .05), respectively. The respective 3D deviations at the implant shoulder were (0.70 +/- 0.44) mm and (0.55 +/- 0.27) mm (p > .05); those at the implant apex were (1.25 +/- 0.61) mm and (1.11 +/- 0.54) mm (p > .05). The mesiodistal, buccolingual, and apicocoronal deviations at the implant shoulder and apex did not significantly differ between the groups (p > .05). Conclusions Implants for single posterior edentulous spaces were placed as accurately with the test guide as with the control. Further research under more complex situations involving multiple missing teeth is needed.
Accuracy of template‐based guided dental implant placement—An in vitro comparison of different manufacturing methods

Abstract:Objectives This study investigates effects of surgical guide manufacturing process on 3D transfer accuracy of planned dental implant position, using three production methods: additive 3D‐printed (3DF), subtractive milled (MF), and analog laboratory fabricated templates (LF). Material and Methods Implant position for a single‐tooth gap (#26) planned digitally. 3DF and MF templates were designed digitally, while LF templates were analogously created. For each manufacturing type, 10 surgical guides were fabricated. Each guide was used for template‐guided implant placement in model replicas. For evaluation of implant placement, cone beam computed tomography scans of all implanted models were superimposed, and implant positions were determined. Deviations at implant shoulder/apex were measured, and median and inter‐quartile range (IQR) were determined for mesio‐distal, oro‐facial, coronal apico, 3D spaces, and angles. Results At implant shoulder, vertical components dominated position deviations (up to 1.04 mm, IQR 0.28 mm for 3DF). Horizontal deviations were much lower (mesio‐distally up to 0.38 mm, IQR 0.36 mm (LF)). Implant apex shows similar vertical deviations, while horizontal deviations clearly increased compared to shoulder, especially in mesio‐distal direction. Median angular deviations were between 2.1° (IQR 2.0 mm, max. 4.2°) for 3DF and 3.3° (IQR 1.9 mm, max. 5.3°) for MF. No statistical differences were found between manufacturing types (Kruskal–Wallis test, p = .05). Conclusions The study showed the method of implant guide fabrication did not affect the accuracy of implant placement within the limits of an in vitro environment. All methods resulted in implant placement which did not exceed the accepted safety deviation envelope (1.5–2.0 mm).

Comparative evaluation of accuracy of implants placed with thermoplastic and three-dimensional-printed surgical guides: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Background: The current study was planned to evaluate the accuracy of dental implant placement with two different types of surgical guides: Thermoplastic and three-dimensional (3D) printed. Materials and methods: A total of 32 implants were placed in 20 healthy, partially dentate individuals with an isolated single missing tooth. The implant sites were randomly allocated into two treatment groups: Group A (thermoplastic implant surgical guide, n = 16 implants) and Group B (3D printed implant surgical guide, n = 16 implants). All the cases in both groups were digitally planned according to a defined protocol, and a comparison of the planned and actual implant positions was performed using the medical image analysis software. The differences in the outcome variables, i.e., angular deviation (AD), 3D error at the entry, 3D error at the apex (3D EA), vertical deviation (VD), and composite deviation, were statistically analyzed. Results: All the outcome variables showed improvements, but statistically significant improvement was shown by AD (P = 0.005), 3D EA (P = 0.01), and VD (P = 0.007). The mean and standard deviation (SD) for AD, (3D EA), and VD were 5.58° ±1.93°, 0.96 ± 0.32 mm, and 0.58 ± 0.36 mm, respectively, for group A. The mean and SD for AD, (3D EA), and VD were 3.94° ± 0.64°, 0.64 ± 0.35 mm, and 0.29 ± 0.13 mm, respectively, for group B (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, dental implants placed using 3D-printed surgical guides were positioned clinically with greater accuracy, and fewer deviations were observed from their presurgical planned positions as compared to the thermoplastic surgical guides.

Abstract:Statement of problem The congruence of surgical implant placement with the preplanned position is important for anatomic and prosthetic precision, minimal complications, and increased longevity. The influence of implant placement timing on the surgical deviations in single posterior implants is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this clinical study was to compare deviations between preplanned and single posterior immediate and delayed implants placed using computer-guided digital light processing (DLP) surgical guides fabricated using intraoral scanning and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and methods Implant surgery was performed on 24 participants requiring single immediate or delayed implants in the posterior maxillary and mandibular regions, for which the surgical site data were obtained from CBCT and intraoral scanning. Subsequently, virtual implant planning and DLP surgical guides were fabricated. Preimplant and postimplant placement CBCT scans were overlapped, and mean deviations for the immediate and delayed implant groups were calculated. The groups were compared with unpaired t tests (α=.05). Results A total of 24 implants were placed, 12 in each group. In participants who received immediate implant placement, the mean ±standard deviation angular deviation, linear deviation at shoulder, linear deviation at apex, and vertical deviation were 1.03 ±0.70 degrees, 0.26 ±0.30 mm, 0.23 ±0.24 mm, and 0.39 ± 0.34 mm, respectively. In participants who received delayed implant treatment, the deviations were 0.53 ±0.60 degrees, 0.15 ±0.18 mm, 0.25 ±0.33 mm, and 0.17 ±0.10 mm, respectively. Significant differences between the 2 groups were found in the vertical deviation ( P <.05). Conclusions The timing of the single posterior placement was associated with different deviations in the vertical direction. All deviations obtained were below the recommended values. DLP surgical guides fabricated from intraoral and CBCT scans provided accurate implant placement in immediate and delayed single posterior implants.

Abstract:3D printed surgical guides are used for prosthetically-driven oral implant placement. When manufacturing these guides, information regarding suitable printing techniques and materials as well as the necessity for additional, non-printed stock parts such as metal sleeves is scarce. The aim of the investigation was to determine the accuracy of a surgical workflow for oral implant placement using guides manufactured by means of fused deposition modeling (FDM) from a biodegradable and sterilizable biopolymer filament. Furthermore, the potential benefit of metal sleeve inserts should be assessed. A surgical guide was designed for the installation of two implants in the region of the second premolar (SP) and second molar (SM) in a mandibular typodont model. For two additive manufacturing techniques (stereolithography [SLA]: reference group, FDM: observational group) n = 10 surgical guides, with (S) and without (NS) metal sleeves, were used. This resulted in 4 groups of 10 samples each (SLA-S/NS, FDM-S/NS). Target and real implant positions were superimposed and compared using a dedicated software. Sagittal, transversal, and vertical discrepancies at the level of the implant shoulder, apex and regarding the main axis were determined. MANOVA with posthoc Tukey tests were performed for statistical analyses. Placed implants showed sagittal and transversal discrepancies of <1 mm, vertical discrepancies of <0.6 mm, and axial deviations of ≤3°. In the vertical dimension, no differences between the four groups were measured (p ≤ 0.054). In the sagittal dimension, SLA groups showed decreased deviations in the implant shoulder region compared to FDM (p ≤ 0.033), whereas no differences in the transversal dimension between the groups were measured (p ≤ 0.054). The use of metal sleeves did not affect axial, vertical, and sagittal accuracy, but resulted in increased transversal deviations (p = 0.001). Regarding accuracy, biopolymer-based surgical guides manufactured by means of FDM present similar accuracy than SLA. Cytotoxicity tests are necessary to confirm their biocompatibility in the oral environment.

Abstract:Different printing technologies can be used for prosthetically oriented implant placement, however the influence of different printing orientations and steam sterilization remains unclear. In particular, no data is available for the novel technology Continuous Liquid Interface Production. The objective was to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of surgical guides manufactured with different printing techniques in vertical and horizontal printing orientation before and after steam sterilization. A total of 80 surgical guides were manufactured by means of continuous liquid interface production (CLIP; material: Keyguide, Keyprint), digital light processing (DLP; material: Luxaprint Ortho, DMG), stereolithography (SLA; Surgical guide, Formlabs), and fused filament fabrication (FFF; material: Clear Base Support, Arfona) in vertical and horizontal printing orientation (n = 10 per subgroup). Spheres were included in the design to determine the coordinates of 17 reference points. Each specimen was digitized with a laboratory scanner after additive manufacturing (AM) and after steam sterilization (134 °C). To determine the accuracy, root mean square values (RMS) were calculated and coordinates of the reference points were recorded. Based on the measured coordinates, deviations of the reference points and relevant distances were calculated. Paired t-tests and one-way ANOVA were applied for statistical analysis (significance p 0.05). Regarding reference points and distances, CLIP showed larger deviations compared to SLA in both printing orientations after steam sterilization, while DLP manufactured guides were the most dimensionally stable. In conclusion, the different printing technologies and orientations had little effect on the manufacturing accuracy of the surgical guides before sterilization. However, after sterilization, FFF surgical guides exhibited significant deformation making their clinical use impossible. CLIP showed larger deformations due to steam sterilization than the other photopolymerizing techniques, however, discrepancies may be considered within the range of clinical acceptance. The influence on the implant position remains to be evaluated.

Abstract:AIM: The aim of the study is to compare the accuracy of surgical guided implant produced by intraoral scanner, desktop scanner, and CBCT cast scan. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 63 dental implants were placed using 14 surgical guides. A total of 15 subjects, eight males and seven females (eight bilateral cases and seven unliteral cases), with mean age of 45 years (38–55 years) were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into three groups (n = 21 each): Group 1: Surgical guide manufactured using intraoral digital impression. Group 2: Surgical guide manufactured using model cast scanning by CBCT while Group 3: Surgical guide manufactured using model cast scanning by desktop scanner the linear and angular deviations of inserted planned implants were measured. RESULTS: In the intraoral scan group, the mean angular deviation, platform 3D deviation, apical 3D deviation, and vertical deviation were 2.5°, 0.7 mm, 1.1 mm, and 0.6 mm, respectively. While in desktop scanner group, the mean angular deviation, platform 3D deviation, apical 3D deviation, and vertical deviation were 2.6°, 0.1 mm, 1.1 mm, and 1.1 mm, respectively. In the CBCT scan group, the mean angular deviation, 3D platform deviation, 3D apical deviation, and vertical deviation were 3.5°, 1.3 mm, 1.6 mm, and 1.7 mm, respectively. There is no statistically significance difference between intraoral scanner, CBCT cast scan, and desktop scanning on implant deviation that was observed. CONCLUSION: There was no statistically significance difference between intraoral scanner, CBCT cast scan, and desktop scanning on implant deviation that was observed although IOS shows better accuracy and least mean angular deviation.
Accuracy of Guided Surgery via Stereolithographic Mucosa-Supported Surgical Guide in Implant Surgery for Edentulous Patient: a Systematic Review

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the present study is to systematically review the accuracy of implant placement with mucosa-supported stereolithographic surgical guide and to find out what factors can influence the accuracy.MATERIAL AND METHODS: An electronic literature search was performed through the MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases. The articles are including human studies published in English from October 2008 to October, 2017. From the examination of selected articles, deviations between virtual planning and actual implant placement were analysed regarding the global apical, global coronal, and angulation position.RESULTS: A total of 119 articles were reviewed, and 6 of the most relevant articles that are suitable to the criteria were selected. The present data included 572 implants and 93 patients. The result in the present systematic review shows that mean apical global deviation ranges from 0.67 (SD 0.34) mm to 2.19 (SD 0.83) mm, mean coronal global deviation ranges from 0.6 (SD 0.25) mm to 1.68 (SD 0.25) mm and mean angular deviation - from 2.6° (SD 1.61°) to 4.67° (SD 2.68°).CONCLUSIONS: It's clearly shown from most of the examined studies that the mucosa-supported stereolithographic surgical guide, showed not exceeding in apically 2.19 mm, in coronally 1.68 mm and in angular deviation 4.67°. Surgeons should be aware of the possible linear and angular deviations of the system. Accuracy can be influenced by bone density, mucosal thickness, surgical techniques, type of jaw, smoking habits and implant length. Further studies should be performed in order to find out which jaw can have better accuracy and how the experience can influence the accuracy.

Proof of Concept of a New 3D-Guided System for a Single Implant Overdenture in the Mandible: An In Vitro Study

Abstract:PURPOSE: To evaluate the precision and efficiency of a novel guide system for single implant placement in the mandibular symphyses and to evaluate whether the outcome is affected by the level of operator experience.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 90 implants were placed in three different mandibular cast types (Cawood and Howell class III, IV, and V). For each model, a complete denture was 3D printed. A polyether ether ketone rail with a guide sleeve was embedded in the middle of the denture. To determine the ideal implant position, the sleeve could be moved in a buccolingual direction. Adjustment of implant angulation was possible, and an angle correction of 0, 12, or 24 degrees was available. A total of 30 clinicians were divided into three groups: group 1 (experienced, n = 10), group 2 (beginner, n = 10), and group 3 (inexperienced, n = 10). Each clinician was asked to plan and perform a guided flapless implant placement in the mandibular symphysis. Two preoperative CBCT scans were taken; the first was to verify the planning, and the second was to adjust the planning if needed. Finally, a postoperative CBCT scan was taken to compare the planning to the final implant position.RESULTS: Based on the first CBCT, the clinicians adjusted their planning by an average of 1.66 ± 1.65 mm coronally, 2.41 ± 2.44 mm apically, and by a mean angular correction of 6.08 ± 0.77 degrees. After implant placement, the mean deviation from the planned implant position was 0.87 ± 0.58 mm at the coronal aspect and 0.98 ± 0.64 mm at the apical aspect. The mean angular deviation was 6.05 ± 0.71 degrees. Overall, there were no significant differences in coronal and apical deviation (P > .05) based on the level of experience. In terms of angulation, a significant difference was found in both planning (P = .049) and placement (P = .038) between beginners and experienced clinicians.CONCLUSIONS: Guided implant placement of a single implant in the mandibular symphysis using a removable denture with guide sleeve had an acceptable level of accuracy. Clinicians with limited experience spent more time on the procedure, resulting in less angular deviation during implant planning and placement compared to experienced clinicians.

Abstract:Objectives: This study aims to compare the accuracy of self-developed universal implant guide (SDG), 3D printed digital guide (DG), and free hand (FH) simulated implantation in the posterior tooth area of dental models. Methods: Ten junior dentists were selected to place three implants in the 35, 37, and 46 tooth sites of the mandibular models (35, 36, 37, and 46 missing teeth) by using SDG, DG, and FH, and the process was repeated again to take the average value. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to evaluate the global coronal deviation, global apical deviation, depth deviation, and angular deviation between the actual position and preoperative planned position. Results: The coronal deviation and apical deviation of the three implant sites in the SDG group were not significantly different from those in the two other groups (P>0.05). The depth deviation and angular deviation in the SDG group were smaller than those in the DG group (P<0.05) and FH group (P<0.05), respectively. All deviations at site 37 in the SDG group were not different from those at site 35 (P>0.05), while the depth and angular deviation at site 37 in the DG group were higher than those at site 35 (P<0.05). Conclusions: The precision of the self-developed universal dental implant guide can meet the requirements of clinical posterior implantation.

Abstract:Statement of problem. An accurate surgical template for guided implant surgery is essential for the success of an implant restoration. However, reports on the accuracy of digitally designed and computer numeric controlled (CNC) machine-milled surgical templates are sparse. Purpose. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the accuracy of an implant surgical guide digitally designed by using data from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and milled with a 5-axis CNC machine. Material and methods. Six representative radiographic templates were prepared from radiopaque resin plates. For each guide, a CBCT scan was made, and the extracted Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data were imported into a planning software program (ORGANICAL Dental Implant). Nine implants were virtually designed for each guide. The design data were imported into a 5-axis CNC machine, and the radiographic guides were fixed onto the CNC machine (Organical Multi S). Bore holes for surgical guide sleeves were milled directly in the radiographic template, which was converted into a surgical template. After the milling process, the surgical guides were scanned by using a laboratory cast scanner. The deviation between the position of the sleeve bore hole in the milled template and that in the virtual implant planning was digitally calculated. Results. The mean global deviation of the surgical guide was 0.16 +/- 0.06 mm in the circle center of the sleeve top, and the mean angular deviation was 0.61 +/- 0.40 degrees. The sleeve-implant distance and the sleeve axis angle showed no significant influence on the in vitro accuracy of the implant surgical guide. Conclusions. The mean deviation of the surgical guide prepared by using the virtual planning software program and 5-axis CNC milling procedure in this study was 0.16 +/- 0.06 mm in the center of the sleeve top. Thus, the guide had acceptable precision.
A Comparison of Accuracy among Different Approaches of Static‐guided Implant Placement in Patients Treated with Mandibular Reconstruction: A Retrospective Study

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the differences in the accuracy of immediate intraoral, immediate extraoral, and delayed dental implant placement with surgical guides (static computer-aided implant surgery) in patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.Methods: This was a retrospective study. The patients were divided into three groups: immediate intraoral placement (IIO), immediate extraoral placement (IEO), and delayed placement (DEL). Four variables were used to compare the planned and actual implant positions: angular deviation, three-dimensional (3D) deviation at the entry point of the implant, 3D deviation at the apical point of the implant, and depth deviation.Results: The angular deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. The 3D deviation at the entry point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The 3D deviation at the apical point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .01) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The depth deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. There was no statistical difference between the IEO and DEL group in angular and 3D deviation.Conclusion: With surgical guides, among the different approaches for implant placement, delayed implant placement remains the most accurate approach for patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.
Accuracy of static computer-assisted implant placement in anterior and posterior sites by clinicians new to implant dentistry: in vitro comparison of fully guided, pilot-guided, and freehand protocols

Abstract:Abstract Background One of the challenges encountered by clinicians new to implant dentistry is the determination and controlling of implant location. This study compared the accuracy of fully guided (FG) and pilot-guided (PG) static computer-assisted implant placement (sCAIP) protocols against the conventional freehand (FH) protocol for placing single anterior and posterior implants by recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry. Material and methods Ten clinicians new to implant dentistry inserted one anterior (central incisor) and one posterior (first molar) implants per protocol in training maxillary models. The FG protocol involved drilling and implant placement through the guide, while the PG protocol controlled the pilot drilling only. The FH implant placement was completed without the aid of any guide. A total of 30 models were used, and 60 implants were inserted. The implant vertical, horizontal neck, horizontal apex, and angle deviations from planned positions were calculated. Results The FG protocol provided the most accurate implant placement in relation to horizontal neck (0.47 mm–0.52 mm), horizontal apex (0.71 mm–0.74 mm), and angle deviations (2.42 o –2.61 o ). The vertical deviation was not significantly different among the different protocols. The PG protocol was generally similar to the FH protocol with a horizontal neck deviation of 1.01 mm–1.14 mm, horizontal apex deviation of 1.02 mm–1.35 mm, and angle deviation of 4.65 o –7.79 o . The FG protocol showed similarity in the accuracy of the anterior and posterior implants. There was a tendency for inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants for the PG and FH protocols. Conclusions In the hands of recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry, it appears that the accuracy of the FG protocol was superior to the other protocols and was not influenced by the position of the implants. The PG and FH protocols showed inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants.

Accuracy of Chair-Side Fused-Deposition Modelling for Dental Applications

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to establish a chair-side design and production method for a tooth-supported fixed implant guide and to evaluate its accuracy. Design/methodology/approach Three-dimensional (3D) data of the alveolar ridge, adjacent teeth and antagonistic teeth were acquired from models of the edentulous area of 30 patients. The implant guides were then constructed using self-developed computer-aided design software and chair-side fused deposition modelling 3D-printing and positioned on a dental model. A model scanner was used to acquire 3D data of the positioned implant guides, and the overall error was then evaluated. Findings The overall error was 0.599 ± 0.146 mm (n = 30). One-way ANOVA revealed no statistical differences among the 30 implant guides. The gap between the occlusal surface of the teeth covering and the tissue surface of the implant guide was measured. The maximum gap after positioning of the implant guide was 0.341 mm (mean, 0.179 ± 0.019 mm). The implanted axes of the printed implant guide and designed guide were compared in terms of overall, lateral and angular error, which were 0.104 ± 0.004 mm, 0.097 ± 0.003 mm, and 2.053° ± 0.017°, respectively. Originality/value The results of this study demonstrated that the accuracy of a new chair-side tooth-supported fixed implant guide can satisfy clinical requirements.
