Abstract:Background: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a positioning method with hand-guiding and contact position feedback of robot based on a human-robot collaborative dental implant system (HRCDIS) for robotic guided dental implant surgery. Methods: An HRCDIS was developed based on a light-weight cooperative robot arm, UR5. A three-dimensional (3D) virtual partially edentulous mandibular bone was reconstructed using the cone bone computed tomography images. After designing the preoperative virtual implant planning using the computer software, a fixation guide worn on teeth for linking and fixing positioning marker was fabricated by 3D printing. The fixation guide with the positioning marker and a resin model mimicking the oral tissues were assembled on a head phantom. The planned implant positions were derived by the coordinate information of the positioning marker. The drilling process using the HRCDIS was conducted after mimicking the experimental set-up and planning the drilling trajectory. Deviations between actual and planned implant positions were measured and analyzed. Results: The head phantom experiments results showed that the error value of the central deviation at hex (refers to the center of the platform level of the implant) was 0.79 +/- 0.17 mm, central deviation at the apex was 1.26 +/- 0.27 mm, horizontal deviation at the hex was 0.61 +/- 0.19 mm, horizontal deviation at the apex was 0.91 +/- 0.55 mm, vertical deviation at the hex was 0.38 +/- 0.17 mm, vertical deviation at the apex was 0.37 +/- 0.20 mm, and angular deviation was 3.77 +/- 1.57 degrees. Conclusions: The results from this study preliminarily validate the feasibility of the accurate navigation method of the HRCDIS.

Abstract:Purpose To compare the accuracy of chairside, fused deposition modeling (FDM) three-dimensional (3D)-printed surgical guides with that of stereolithographic guides for implant placement in single edentulous sites within a clinical setting. Materials and Methods A total of 28 participants with 30 single posterior edentulous sites were included. The sites were randomized into a FDM 3D-printed surgical guide group (test) or stereolithographic guide group (control) of equal size (n = 15). In both groups, digital implant planning was performed using data from cone beam-computed tomography and intraoral scans. The test group's surgical guides were fabricated using a chairside, FDM 3D-printer; those in the control group were fabricated using a light-curing 3D-printer. Postoperative intraoral scans were used to obtain the 3D position of the implants. Compared to preoperative design, the angular, 3D, mesiodistal, buccolingual and apicocoronal deviations at the implant shoulder and apex were recorded. Results The workflow for the design and chairside fabrication of implant guides was established. The mean angular deviations of the test and control group were (4.23 +/- 2.38) degrees and (4.13 +/- 2.42) degrees (p > .05), respectively. The respective 3D deviations at the implant shoulder were (0.70 +/- 0.44) mm and (0.55 +/- 0.27) mm (p > .05); those at the implant apex were (1.25 +/- 0.61) mm and (1.11 +/- 0.54) mm (p > .05). The mesiodistal, buccolingual, and apicocoronal deviations at the implant shoulder and apex did not significantly differ between the groups (p > .05). Conclusions Implants for single posterior edentulous spaces were placed as accurately with the test guide as with the control. Further research under more complex situations involving multiple missing teeth is needed.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the differences in the accuracy of immediate intraoral, immediate extraoral, and delayed dental implant placement with surgical guides (static computer-aided implant surgery) in patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.Methods: This was a retrospective study. The patients were divided into three groups: immediate intraoral placement (IIO), immediate extraoral placement (IEO), and delayed placement (DEL). Four variables were used to compare the planned and actual implant positions: angular deviation, three-dimensional (3D) deviation at the entry point of the implant, 3D deviation at the apical point of the implant, and depth deviation.Results: The angular deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. The 3D deviation at the entry point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The 3D deviation at the apical point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .01) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The depth deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. There was no statistical difference between the IEO and DEL group in angular and 3D deviation.Conclusion: With surgical guides, among the different approaches for implant placement, delayed implant placement remains the most accurate approach for patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.

Influence of 3D-printing method, resin material, and sterilization on the accuracy of virtually designed surgical implant guides

Abstract:Statement of problem: Three-dimensional printing has introduced new manufacturing methods. However, information on the influence of the specific printing technology, material, sterilization, and the comparison between printing and milling on the accuracy of surgical guides is lacking. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of the manufacturing method (printing and milling), printing technology stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP), material, and sterilization on the accuracy of digitally designed surgical implant guides. Material and methods: Resin patient replicas with a single edentulous space were used to place 132 implants with digitally designed surgical guides. The accuracy of postoperative implant position was analyzed for the manufacturing method (printing and milling), resin materials, and preoperative autoclaving. To determine 3D accuracy, angular displacement, mean horizontal crestal, apical displacement, and the linear vertical displacement at the apex were calculated separately for each group (n=12). In addition, the surgical guides were qualitatively analyzed by using field emission scanning electron micrograph. Results: The postoperative angular deviation ranged from 0.76 ±0.52 degrees (Rapidshape D20II with NextDent SG) to 2.43 ±0.64 degrees (Form2 with NextDent SG) (P<.001). Linear horizontal displacement at the crest was smallest for Rapidshape D20II with 3Delta Guide (0.27 ±0.08 mm) and highest for Form2 with NextDent SG (0.54 ±0.10 mm) (P<.001). Linear horizontal displacement at the apex ranged from 0.36 ±0.10 mm (SolFlex 350 with V-Print SG) to 0.89 ±0.32 mm (Form2 with NextDent SG) (P<.001). Considering the vertical position displacement was no more than 0.43 ±0.07 mm (Form2 with NextDent SG) short of the apex, none of the implant tips were displaced apically. Preoperative autoclaving differentially impaired the accuracy of surgical guides. Conclusions: The specific manufacturing technique, the 3D printing device, the resin material, and the application of preoperative sterilization all affected the accuracy of the postoperative implant position. Irrespective of the manufacturing method, all implants were placed within the commonly accepted safety distance.
Comparative evaluation of accuracy of implants placed with thermoplastic and three-dimensional-printed surgical guides: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Background: The current study was planned to evaluate the accuracy of dental implant placement with two different types of surgical guides: Thermoplastic and three-dimensional (3D) printed. Materials and methods: A total of 32 implants were placed in 20 healthy, partially dentate individuals with an isolated single missing tooth. The implant sites were randomly allocated into two treatment groups: Group A (thermoplastic implant surgical guide, n = 16 implants) and Group B (3D printed implant surgical guide, n = 16 implants). All the cases in both groups were digitally planned according to a defined protocol, and a comparison of the planned and actual implant positions was performed using the medical image analysis software. The differences in the outcome variables, i.e., angular deviation (AD), 3D error at the entry, 3D error at the apex (3D EA), vertical deviation (VD), and composite deviation, were statistically analyzed. Results: All the outcome variables showed improvements, but statistically significant improvement was shown by AD (P = 0.005), 3D EA (P = 0.01), and VD (P = 0.007). The mean and standard deviation (SD) for AD, (3D EA), and VD were 5.58° ±1.93°, 0.96 ± 0.32 mm, and 0.58 ± 0.36 mm, respectively, for group A. The mean and SD for AD, (3D EA), and VD were 3.94° ± 0.64°, 0.64 ± 0.35 mm, and 0.29 ± 0.13 mm, respectively, for group B (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, dental implants placed using 3D-printed surgical guides were positioned clinically with greater accuracy, and fewer deviations were observed from their presurgical planned positions as compared to the thermoplastic surgical guides.
Digital Versus Radiographic Accuracy Evaluation of Guided Implant Surgery: an in Vitro Study

Abstract:Background Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the most widely used method for postsurgical evaluation of the accuracy of guided implant surgery. However, the disadvantages of CBCT include radiation exposure, artifacts caused by metal implants, and high cost. Few studies have introduced a digital registration method to replace CBCT for evaluating the accuracy of guided surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare digital registration to conventional CBCT in terms of the capacity to evaluate the implant positioning accuracy of guided surgery. Materials and methods This in vitro study included 40 acrylic resin models with posterior single mandibular tooth loss. Guided surgery software was used to determine the optimal implant position; 40 tooth-supported fully guided drilling templates were designed and milled accordingly. After the guided surgery, the accuracies of the surgical templates were evaluated by conventional CBCT and digital registration. For evaluation by conventional CBCT, postsurgical CBCT scans of the resin models were performed. The CBCT data were reconstructed and superimposed on the implant planning data. For digital registration, we constructed a virtual registration unit that consisted of an implant replica and a scan body. Next, we obtained postsurgical optical scans of resin models with the scan body. The postsurgical implant position was identified by superimposition of the registration unit and optical scan data. The implant planning data and postsurgical implant position data were superimposed; deviations were reported in terms of distance for implant entry/apex point and in terms of angle for the implant axis. Interclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland–Altman plots were used to analyze the agreement between the two evaluation methods. Results The ICCs between the two methods were 0.986, 0.993, and 0.968 for the entry point, apex point, and angle, respectively; all were significantly greater than 0.75 ( p < 0.001). Bland–Altman plots showed that the 95% limits of agreement of the differences were − 0.144 to + 0.081 mm, − 0.135 to + 0.147 mm, and − 0.451° to + 0.729° for the entry point, apex point, and angle, respectively; all values were within the maximum tolerated difference. Conclusion Conventional CBCT and digital registration showed good agreement in terms of evaluating the accuracy of implant positioning using tooth-supported surgical templates.

Abstract:Objectives This study investigates effects of surgical guide manufacturing process on 3D transfer accuracy of planned dental implant position, using three production methods: additive 3D‐printed (3DF), subtractive milled (MF), and analog laboratory fabricated templates (LF). Material and Methods Implant position for a single‐tooth gap (#26) planned digitally. 3DF and MF templates were designed digitally, while LF templates were analogously created. For each manufacturing type, 10 surgical guides were fabricated. Each guide was used for template‐guided implant placement in model replicas. For evaluation of implant placement, cone beam computed tomography scans of all implanted models were superimposed, and implant positions were determined. Deviations at implant shoulder/apex were measured, and median and inter‐quartile range (IQR) were determined for mesio‐distal, oro‐facial, coronal apico, 3D spaces, and angles. Results At implant shoulder, vertical components dominated position deviations (up to 1.04 mm, IQR 0.28 mm for 3DF). Horizontal deviations were much lower (mesio‐distally up to 0.38 mm, IQR 0.36 mm (LF)). Implant apex shows similar vertical deviations, while horizontal deviations clearly increased compared to shoulder, especially in mesio‐distal direction. Median angular deviations were between 2.1° (IQR 2.0 mm, max. 4.2°) for 3DF and 3.3° (IQR 1.9 mm, max. 5.3°) for MF. No statistical differences were found between manufacturing types (Kruskal–Wallis test, p = .05). Conclusions The study showed the method of implant guide fabrication did not affect the accuracy of implant placement within the limits of an in vitro environment. All methods resulted in implant placement which did not exceed the accepted safety deviation envelope (1.5–2.0 mm).

Abstract:Objectives The aim of this study is to presents an experimental method for surgical guide confection using an intraoral scanner to obtain a 3D model of the patient's complete denture and compare its accuracy with the conventional methodology using computed tomography. Study design This prospective in-vitro study used 30 polyurethane pre-manufactured mandibles which were divided into two groups, conventional technique (group I) and a new method using intraoral scanner (group II), establishing the virtually planned position of the dental implants as a control group, considered as the gold standard for postoperative comparison. Results The difference between these methods is close to zero and not statistically significant ( p >0.05), being heigh deviation (Xh) with p:0.130 and angulation difference of dental implants between the groups (Ang) with p:0.396. Conclusion The acquisition of stereolithography image of the prosthesis using an intraoral scanner has a clinically acceptable accuracy, being in agreement with the conventional method.

Accuracy of Computer-Guided Implant Surgery by a CAD/CAM and Laser Scanning Technique.

Abstract:OBJECTIVESTo explore the method of manufacturing an implant surgery template with a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique and evaluate its precision in clinical cases.METHODSPatients referred to the 2nd Dental Center of Peking University who were partially edentulous, were enrolled and scanned with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Diagnostic casts were laser scanned to record the configuration of the patients' dentition and mucosae. CBCT and laser scanning data were subsequently loaded into Simplant software. Implant positions were planned in the software with a computer-aided design technique, and surgical templates were fabricated with a rapid prototyping technique. These templates were used to guide implant placement surgery.RESULTSThe mean value of linear deviation was 1.00 mm (range 0 to 2.16 mm) for implant shoulder and 1.26 mm (range 0.51 to 2.86 mm) for the implant apex. The mean angular deviation was 4.74 degress (0.37 to 10.28 degrees). Deviations were higher in the posterior region than anterior. The tooth-supported template provided higher precision than did the tooth/ mucosa-supported template, but no statistically significant difference was found.CONCLUSIONComputer-guided implant surgery with the CAD/CAM technique provides dentists with a good platform for preoperative planning, precise implant insertion, and ideal rehabilitation. The protocol of this three-dimensional laser scanning technique can provide precision comparable to that of double-scanning.
Comparison of Different Types of Static Computer-Guided Implant Surgery in Varying Bone Inclinations

Abstract:This research aimed to compare the accuracy of dental implant placement among three types of surgical guide: metal sleeve with key handle (Nobel guide, Nobel Biocare, Göteborg, Sweden), metal sleeve without key handle, and non-sleeve without key handle (Dentium full guide kit, Dentium Co., Seoul, Korea) when placing the implant in different bone inclinations. A total of 72 polyurethane bone models were fabricated in different inclinations (0°, 45°, and 60°). The dental implants were placed in bone models following the company’s recommendations. After dental implants were installed, the digital scans were done by an extraoral scanner. The deviations of the dental implant position were evaluated by superimposition between post-implant placement and reference model by using GOM inspect software. The deviation measurement was shown in 5 parameters: angular deviation, 3D deviation at the crest, 3D deviation at the apex, lateral linear deviation, and vertical linear deviation. The data were analyzed using One-way ANOVA and post-hoc tests at a significance level of 0.05. The accuracy of the dental implant position was not significantly influenced by the difference in the surgical guide system (p > 0.05). There were significant differences between placed and planned implant positions in the different inclinations of the bone. A significant difference was found in all parameters of 0° and 60° bone inclinations (p < 0.05). At 0° and 45°, angulated bone showed significant differences except in 3D deviation at the apex. Between 45° and 60° were significant differences only in angular deviation. Within the limitations of this study, the accuracy of implant placement among three types of surgical guides (Non-sleeve without key handle, Metal sleeve without key handle, and Metal sleeve with key handle) from two companies (Dentium and Nobel Biocare) was similar. Hence, the operators can choose the surgical guide system according to their preference. The inclination of bone can influence the angulation of dental implants.

Fully Digital Workflow for Planning Static Guided Implant Surgery: A Prospective Accuracy Study

Abstract:The accuracy of static guided implant surgery (sGIS) using conventional planning workflow has been extensively examined; however, more information is required to justify the application of fully digital planning protocol. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical accuracy of sGIS with a fully digital planning workflow. Twenty-one partially edentulous patients were enrolled in this prospective study. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and intraoral scans were taken and superimposed by matching the dental surface images directly (surface registration protocol) or by matching fiducial markers on a stereolithographic (SLA) radiographic template fabricated from the digital data of the intraoral scan (fiducial marker registration protocol). Virtual implant treatment plans were then determined, and tooth-supported SLA surgical guides were fabricated according to the plans. Twenty-six implant surgeries were performed via the surgical guide by one surgeon. Pre- and post-operative CBCT images were superimposed, and the positional and angular deviations between placed and planned implants were measured with metrology software. A total of 43 fully guided implants were placed, in which 25 implants were planned with the surface registration protocol. Implants planned based on the surface registration protocol had a larger mean angular deviation than the fiducial marker registration protocol. No significant differences were found for any deviations of the examined variables. Within the limits of this study, we concluded that the clinical accuracy of the sGIS planned with a fully digital workflow was consistent with the conventional workflow for partially edentulous patients.
Accuracy of Implant Surgical Guides Fabricated Using Computer Numerical Control Milling for Edentulous Jaws: a Pilot Clinical Trial.

Abstract:Abstract Background To evaluate the accuracy of a computer numerical control (CNC) milled surgical guide for implant placement in edentulous jaws. Methods Edentulous patients seeking implants treatment were recruited in this prospective cohort study. Radiographic guides with diagnostic templates were fabricated from wax-up dentures. Patients took cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) wearing the radiopaque radiographic guides. Implant positions were virtually designed in the planning software based on the CBCT data, and the radiographic templates were converted into surgical guides using CNC milling technique. Forty-four implants were placed into 12 edentulous jaws following guided implant surgery protocol. Post-surgery CBCT scans were made for each jaw, and the deviations between the planned and actual implant positions were measured. Deviation of implant position was compared between maxilla and mandible, and between cases with and without anchor pins using independent t-test. Results Nine patients (3 males and 6 females) with 12 edentulous jaws were recruited. The mean age of patients was 59.2 ± 13.9 years old. All 44 implants was placed without complication and survived, the mean three dimensional linear deviation of implant position between virtual planning and actual placement was 1.53 ± 0.48 mm at the implant neck and 1.58 ± 0.49 mm at the apex. The angular deviation was 3.96 ± 3.05 degrees. No significant difference was found in the deviation of implant position between maxilla and mandible (P = 0.28 at neck, 0.08 at apex), nor between cases with and without anchor pins (P = 0.87 at neck, 0.06 at apex). Conclusions The guides fabricated using the CNC milling technique provided comparable accuracy as those fabricated by Stereolithography. The displacement of the guides on edentulous arch might be the main contributing factor of deviation. Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR-ONC-17014159 (July 26, 2017).
Accuracy of a Milled Digital Implant Surgical Guide: an in Vitro Study

Abstract:Statement of problem. An accurate surgical template for guided implant surgery is essential for the success of an implant restoration. However, reports on the accuracy of digitally designed and computer numeric controlled (CNC) machine-milled surgical templates are sparse. Purpose. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the accuracy of an implant surgical guide digitally designed by using data from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and milled with a 5-axis CNC machine. Material and methods. Six representative radiographic templates were prepared from radiopaque resin plates. For each guide, a CBCT scan was made, and the extracted Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data were imported into a planning software program (ORGANICAL Dental Implant). Nine implants were virtually designed for each guide. The design data were imported into a 5-axis CNC machine, and the radiographic guides were fixed onto the CNC machine (Organical Multi S). Bore holes for surgical guide sleeves were milled directly in the radiographic template, which was converted into a surgical template. After the milling process, the surgical guides were scanned by using a laboratory cast scanner. The deviation between the position of the sleeve bore hole in the milled template and that in the virtual implant planning was digitally calculated. Results. The mean global deviation of the surgical guide was 0.16 +/- 0.06 mm in the circle center of the sleeve top, and the mean angular deviation was 0.61 +/- 0.40 degrees. The sleeve-implant distance and the sleeve axis angle showed no significant influence on the in vitro accuracy of the implant surgical guide. Conclusions. The mean deviation of the surgical guide prepared by using the virtual planning software program and 5-axis CNC milling procedure in this study was 0.16 +/- 0.06 mm in the center of the sleeve top. Thus, the guide had acceptable precision.
Accuracy of an autonomous dental implant robotic system versus static guide-assisted implant surgery: A retrospective clinical study

Abstract:Statement of problem: The accuracy of implant placement is a prerequisite for prosthetically driven implant surgery and is necessary to ensure the long-term stability of dental implants. Imprecise implant position may bring difficulties for restoration, damage anatomic structures, affect peri-implant tissues, and lead to ultimate implant failure. Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to compare the accuracy of implants placed with an autonomous dental implant robotic (ADIR) system with those placed with static computer assisted implant surgery (sCAIS). Material and methods: Thirty-nine participants were enrolled in this retrospective study: 20 participants had received implant surgery with the ADIR system and 19 participants had implants placed with sCAIS. The preoperative plans and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans after implant placement were matched during the study. The coronal, apical, and angular deviations were measured and analyzed. A linear regression model was established to analyze the source of deviation. MANOVA was used to compare differences in the major outcome variables (α=.05). Results: A total of 60 implants were placed in 39 participants (30 in each of the 2 groups). The mean ±standard deviation coronal, apical, and angular deviation of the ADIR system group and sCAIS group were 0.43 ±0.18 mm versus 1.31 ±0.62 mm (P<.001), 0.56 ±0.18 mm versus 1.47 ±0.65 mm (P<.001), and 1.48 ±0.59 degrees versus 2.42 ±1.55 degrees (P=.003), respectively. In addition, there was no significant difference in accuracy in the different implant regions (anterior, premolar, molar, maxilla, mandible) (P>.05). No complications were observed. Conclusions: The accuracy of the implant position using the ADIR system was significantly higher than with sCAIS, suggesting that the ADIR system can achieve minimally invasive and excellent accuracy. Accuracy Assessment of Implant Placement with Versus Without a CAD/CAM Surgical Guide by Novices Versus Specialists Via the Digital Registration Method: an in Vitro Randomized Crossover Study.

Abstract:Background Many studies demonstrated that surgical guides might reduce discrepancies compared with freehand implant placement. This randomized crossover study aimed to assess the effects of approaches, practitioners’ experience and learning sequences on the accuracy of single tooth implantation via digital registration method. No similar study was found. Methods This in vitro randomized crossover study enrolled 60 novice students (Group S) and 10 experienced instructors (Group I). Sixty students were randomly and evenly assigned to two groups (Group SA and SB). In Group SA, 30 students first performed single molar implant on a simulation model freehand (Group SAFH), and then with a CAD/CAM surgical guide (Group SASG). In Group SB, another 30 students first performed guided (Group SBSG) and then freehand (Group SBFH). Ten instructors were also divided into Group IAFH/IASG ( n = 5) and IBSG/IBFH ( n = 5) following the same rules. The accuracy of implant placement was assessed by the coronal and apical distance (mm) and angular (°) deviations using the digital registration method. T tests and nonparametric tests were used to compare the results among different groups of approaches, experience and sequences. Results For students, the coronal and apical distance and the angular deviations were significantly lower in surgical guide group than freehand group in total and in learning freehand first subgroup, but for learning surgical guide first subgroup the apical distance deviation showed no significant difference between two approaches. For students, the angular deviation of freehand group was significantly lower in learning surgical guide first group than learning freehand first group. For instructors, the coronal and apical distance and angular deviations showed no significant difference between two approaches and two sequences. For freehand approach, the coronal and apical distance and the angular deviations were significantly higher in student group than instructor group, while not significantly different between two groups for surgical guide approach. Conclusions For novices, using a surgical guide for the first implant placement may reduce the potential deviations compared with freehand surgery, and may reach a comparable accuracy with that of specialists. For simple single molar implantation, the surgical guide may not be significantly helpful for experienced specialists.

Abstract:The venous diameter ratio (ratio of the diameter of the largest vein in either breast to the diameter of a comparable vein in the opposite breast) was calculated from mammograms of 40 females (26 carcinomas and 14 benign tumors). The absolute vein diameter is unreliable, but a venous diameter ratio of 1.4:1, or greater, is a good indicator of abnormality. The detection of an increased venous diameter ratio, with or without an abnormal thermogram, should cause the radiologist to search the mammograms more carefully.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to establish a chair-side design and production method for a tooth-supported fixed implant guide and to evaluate its accuracy. Design/methodology/approach Three-dimensional (3D) data of the alveolar ridge, adjacent teeth and antagonistic teeth were acquired from models of the edentulous area of 30 patients. The implant guides were then constructed using self-developed computer-aided design software and chair-side fused deposition modelling 3D-printing and positioned on a dental model. A model scanner was used to acquire 3D data of the positioned implant guides, and the overall error was then evaluated. Findings The overall error was 0.599 ± 0.146 mm (n = 30). One-way ANOVA revealed no statistical differences among the 30 implant guides. The gap between the occlusal surface of the teeth covering and the tissue surface of the implant guide was measured. The maximum gap after positioning of the implant guide was 0.341 mm (mean, 0.179 ± 0.019 mm). The implanted axes of the printed implant guide and designed guide were compared in terms of overall, lateral and angular error, which were 0.104 ± 0.004 mm, 0.097 ± 0.003 mm, and 2.053° ± 0.017°, respectively. Originality/value The results of this study demonstrated that the accuracy of a new chair-side tooth-supported fixed implant guide can satisfy clinical requirements.
