Abstract:Urinary incontinence affects the physical, psychological, social and well-being of older adult women and requires adaptation. This study aimed to explain the inhibiting factors of adaptation to urinary incontinence in community-dwelling older adult women. A qualitative content analysis approach was adopted. Participants were 15 older women with urinary incontinence, three family members, and three healthcare team members. Data were collected by individual, in-depth semistructured interviews and analysed using the Graneheim and Lundman approach. The data analysis yielded the theme of neglecting urinary incontinence and the older adult, with four categories of "s silence-inducing beliefs", "worthlessness for the family", "non-adaptation of urban spaces", and "deficiencies in the healthcare service structure". Elucidating the inhibiting factors for older women's adaptation to urinary incontinence will lead to a change in the attitude of social policymakers and healthcare officials. This changes will then facilitate the establishment and adjustment of the necessary infrastructure to overcome these barriers.
Suffering in silence: a community-based study of fecal incontinence in women

Abstract:Objective: Fecal incontinence (FI) is a very common problem in women especially among the elderly. Women with FI experience significant physical and psychological disability and lifestyle limitations. This study attempts to estimate FI among community women above 40 years of age and its associated risk factors in Tehran, Iran. Study design: In this cross-sectional study, via cluster sampling, a total of 800 community middle-aged women were randomly selected and interviewed using a questionnaire. Results: Prevalence of FI was 18.4 %. Our findings show that FI was associated with UI, osteoarthritis, diabetes mellitus, and inflammatory bowel disease. Conclusions: FI was a prevalent condition in Iranian middle-aged women. Future efforts should be aimed at screening FI in women, offering services to treat them, reducing personal and complication-related costs, and improving their quality of life.

Abstract:Introduction: The incidence of urinary incontinence (UI) increases with age. Mild and moderate UI have little impact on women and are easily ignored. This study reports the characteristics of non-severe UI and quality of life (QOL) in elderly women using data from a Development and Evaluation of a Senile UI Alert System study. Methods: 926 women aged ≥60 were enrolled from six subcenters across China, among whom 717 SUI patients and 209 UUI/MUI patients were grouped into Group A and Group B, respectively, according to leakage symptoms. Demographic and clinical data, pelvic organ prolapse quantification and pelvic floor muscle strength measurement (PFMS) were collected from participants, followed by evaluation of QOL and sexual life. Result: The major type of UI in community women was SUI (77.4%); MUI and UUI accounted for 20.63% and 1.94%, respectively. Weakened PFMS was detected in 78.2% of the participants. Group B was significantly higher in terms of median age, weight, BMI, waist circumference and menopausal years, and had the greater UI severity and impact on QOL, as well as less active sex live than group A (p < 0.05). Conclusion: SUI distributes dominantly in elderly community women, but UUI/MUI has greater impact on QOL and is related to a less active sex life, which requires more attention from medical staff.

Abstract:Materials processing using high power pulsed lasers involves complex phenomena including rapid heating, superheating of the laser-melted material, rapid nucleation, and phase explosion. With a heating rate on the order of 10 9 K/s or higher, the surface layer melted by laser irradiation can reach a temperature higher than the normal boiling point. On the other hand, the vapor pressure does not build up as fast and thus falls below the saturation pressure at the surface temperature, resulting in a superheated, metastable state. As the temperature of the melt approaches the thermodynamic critical point, the liquid undergoes a phase explosion that turns the melt into a mixture of liquid and vapor. This article describes heat transfer and phase change phenomena during nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of a metal, with an emphasis on phase explosion and non-equilibrium phase change. The time required for nucleation in a superheated liquid, which determines the time needed for phase explosion to occur, is also investigated from both theoretical and experimental viewpoints.

Abstract: Perimenopause is characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, and by the appearance of the so called hot flashes. A study of 125 perimenopausal women, and a measurement of the secretion of ovarian and gonadotropin hormones has revealed several possibilities; 1) FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) reach high levels, while level of estradiol is low; 2) high levels of FSH and LH with high levels of progesterone; and, 3) normal levels of FSH and LH and very high levels of estradiol. Pulsatory secretion is irregular, and endometrial state reflects the inertia of the system.
Care Needs of Older Adults With Urinary Incontinence: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Purpose: To explore care requirements of older adults with urinary incontinence (UI) and contributing factors. Method: This cross-sectional study used the Older Adults Urinary Incontinence Care Needs Inventory to survey participants with UI in three large-scale tertiary hospitals located in Guangzhou City, China, from January 2023 to November 2023. Statistical analyses, including analysis of variance, t tests, correlation analyses, and linear regression models, were conducted to assess factors influencing participants' care needs. Results: A total of 530 older adults with UI participated in the survey and mean standardized score for overall care needs was 78.65 (SD = 5.01), with mean scores for each dimension ranging from 70.88 (SD = 10.55) for social participation needs to 82.45 (SD = 7.11) for health education needs. Factors that were found to influence incontinence care needs in older adults included age, literacy level, number of leaks, and type of disease (F = 37.07, adjusted R2 = 0.290, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Comprehensive care for older adults with UI, encompassing physiological, psychological, and social aspects, is crucial. It is essential to tailor care to individual needs and characteristics, taking into account factors, such as age and education, to ensure effective care. A Qualitative Exploration of Women With Cystic Fibrosis and Urinary Incontinence

Abstract:Importance: Women with cystic fibrosis (CF) historically experience a high prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI). However, this area is understudied, especially in the modern era of highly effective modulator therapy (HEMT). Objective: This study aimed to explore the UI experiences, knowledge, care-seeking behavior, and treatment preferences of women with CF. Study design: We recruited women aged ≥18 years through the CF Foundation's Community Voice national registry if they had a diagnosis of CF and reported UI. Participants underwent individual, semistructured interviews exploring their experiences, attitudes, and preferences toward UI that were audiorecorded and transcribed. Two coders performed thematic analysis using deductive and inductive coding approaches. Results: Twenty-six participants completed interviews (average age, 45.1 years; range, 24-61 years). Key themes included the following: (1) most women with CF and UI report low bother from symptoms likely related to stress UI, and HEMT has greatly improved UI symptoms and decreased bother; (2) most women with CF and UI had previously discussed UI symptoms with family and/or peers but had not sought care due to stigma or low priority; (3) women with CF and UI had minimal knowledge about UI in general and how it relates to CF; (4) most desired broad screening for UI from their CF team and improved multidisciplinary care; and (5) highly effective UI treatment options with low-time commitment and easily accessible resources are desired. Conclusions: Women with CF and UI report low knowledge and care-seeking behavior related to this condition and desire improved care provision. Importantly, HEMT may improve UI symptoms among people with CF.

Abstract:Objectives To investigate the urinary incontinence in old female and the influence on the life satisfaction in miyun country,and to provide a basis for health education and behavior intervention.Methods Selected representative rural towns,adopted questionnaire-investigation to collect data.Divided the old women into UI group and healthy group,and analyzed the effect of urinary incontinence on their life satisfaction.Results The investigation selected 501 women who were ≥ 60 years old.The incidence rate of urine incontinence was 44.91%(225/501).People with urinary incontinence felt obvious depression,anxiety,espond,embarrassed,in a black mood,diminish their lives respectively.Conclusions The prevalence rate of UI is high in the old women in miyun country,which influence the satisfaction of life and psychological health of the patients,and demands the medical workers pay adequate attentions.

Abstract:Urinarsy incontinence involves difficulty in retaining urine, making it a problem with multiple consequences. The purpose of this chapter is to encourage reflection on this situation and identify potential action with a view to promoting self-care in the elderly with urinary incontinence. The authors undertook an ethnographic survey in convalescence units in which they observed and interviewed elderly patients with urinary incontinence and healthcare professionals. Implementing an “observation, reporting, and reflection” approach, they carried out a content analysis. Three cultural dimensions emerged affecting self-care. Functional dependence and vulnerability led to an impaired attitude to the body, which constituted the primary challenge in the process. The promotion of self-care was marked by difficulties, strategies, and modes of action where the nurses played a significant role in liaison with the multidisciplinary team. The preparation for discharge was marked by points of contention and negotiations that decided whether the patient would return home or be the subject of referral.

Abstract:Urinary Incontinence (UI) is a significant reason for the decline in women's quality of life. The unexpected occurrence of UI and its high costs around the world are evident. Numerous methods are used for the management of UI; however, there is no worldwide agreement on any of these methods. Traditional medicines are a source of human medical experiences and this study is a review on the books of the most famous Persian medicine (PM) physician, Avicenna, to find about his approach to UI. Keywords such as: "female urinary incontinence", "lifestyle", and “nutrition” were selected. As a library research, Avicenna’s (980- 1037 AD) "the Canon of Medicine" (Al-Qanun Fi al-Tibb), was reviewed and coded. Some other PM famous books like "the Great Continens" (Al-Hawi fi Al-Tibb) of Rhazes (865- 925 AD) and "The Comprehensive Book on Medicine" (Al-Shamil fi Al-Sana'a Al-Tibbiya) of Ibn al-Nafis al-Qarshi (1213- 1288 AD) were used as a help to interpret the codes just in case it was required. Modern literature was searched with the same keywords at electronic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Magiran. Finally, the results were compared. Recent studies care on conservative and lifestyle management in the treatment of UI. In PM, principles of lifestyle management (Setteh-e-zarurieh) is one of the main characteristics of prevention and treatment with six essential principles including weather, eating and drinking, sleep and wakefulness, movement and rest, evacuation and retention, and psychological and mental reactions. In healthy people, these six axes are designed by temperament and personal characteristics. In this manuscript, we discussed five mentioned subtypes. These managements are appropriate for designing various pieces of clinical trials to survey their effects on female UI.

Abstract:Despite its importance and numerous benefits, sexual health in the elderly is often a neglected topic due to gender- and age-specific taboos and stereotypes, especially those addressing elderly women. A qualitative study was conducted using focus group interviews to explore the factors influencing the sexual health of elderly women. Twenty-four married elderly women from Tehran with different socioeconomic statuses and a mean age of 65.33 ± 5.32 participated in 7 focus group interviews. Content analysis was done following the deductive method of Elo and Kyngäs (2008) and based on the different levels of socioecological approach. Overall, the findings indicated the importance of influential factors at 5 different levels as the main categories which included 14 sub-categories. In addition to individual factors such as health and age-related changes, the participants regarded the role of sexual adaptation and the level of satisfaction with it in different periods of life as important factors contributing to the elderly women's sexual health. The role of the husband's health and the quality of the relationship with him along with the children influences were also found to have a decisive role at the interpersonal level. At higher levels, factors such as having privacy, the attitude of health care workers, and socio-cultural beliefs also contributed to sexual health. Results of this study are expected to provide the basis for future research and strengthen sexual health programs for the elderly based on social structures.

Abstract:Background: Considering the high prevalence of UI in the rural areas of Jordan and the limited clinical data on its occurrence in central Jordan, this study aims to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and impact of urinary incontinence (UI) on the quality of life (QoL) of women in central Jordan. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September to December 2022, using online the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire short form (IIQ-7) and Urogenital Distress Inventory short form (UDI-6). Participation was voluntary, and anonymous. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α. Results: A total of 128 women participated in the study. More than half of the participants (54.33%, N = 69) experienced UI symptoms. Body mass index was the sole statistically significant factor linked to UI. Obese patients had the highest risk (OR 35, CI 95% 2.577-475.308, p < 0.05) compared to those with a healthy weight. Multivariate regression indicated significant associations of severe UI with smoking and vaginal births with a moderate impact of UI on QoL. Conclusions: The study's findings emphasize the need for women's health centers in the center of Jordan to develop comprehensive UI prevention and management programs to improve women's health and well-being.

Abstract:Background: Urinary incontinence is prevalent among patients receiving home hospice and presents multiple care management challenges for nurses and family caregivers. Aim: This study sought to understand how urinary incontinence influences the psychosocial care of patients receiving home hospice and the strategies that nurses employ to maximize patient and family comfort. Design: Qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews. Setting/participants: Nurses employed at a large not-for-profit hospice agency in New York City. Results: Analyses of 32 interviews revealed three primary themes. First, nurses considered urinary incontinence to be associated with multiple psychosocial issues including embarrassment for patients and caregiver burden. Second, nurses described urinary incontinence as a threat to patient dignity and took steps to preserve their continence function. Third, nurses assisted patients and their families to cope with urinary incontinence through normalization, reframing incontinence as part of the disease process, mobilizing caregiving assistance, and encouraging use of continence supplies such as diapers and liners. Conclusion: Urinary incontinence influences the psychosocial care of patients receiving home hospice and nurses employ strategies to maximize patient and family comfort. Additional research is needed to examine the psychosocial benefits of facilitated discussions with patients and family members about incontinence, provision of caregiving support, and distribution of comprehensive incontinence supplies to patients with fewer resources.

Abstract:Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common medical problem that seriously affects patients' physical, psychological, social, and financial well-being. To identify the most effective drug management techniques, this retrospective study aimed to describe the demographics, etiology, and medical traits of people with UI. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Rumailah Hospital, Ambulatory Care Centre, and Hamad General Hospital to investigate UI risk factors, causes, and management practices in people aged ≥ 65 years within the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar. Results: The 272 patients enrolled in the study had a marked male preponderance, and a larger percentage of non-Qatari residents than Qataris residents. Solifenacin (24.9%), Tolterodine (4.1%), and Oxybutynin (1.1%) were the most commonly administered anticholinergic drugs, while Tamsulosin (82.9%), Alfuzosin (14.5%), and Doxazosin (1.7%) were the most frequently prescribed alpha-blockers. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of investigating UI in institutionalized older adult populations considering the limited research available in Qatar. The identified preventable risk factors can be proactively addressed to mitigate UI. This study also highlights the need for thorough documentation of the diagnosis and reasons for improving the standards of patient care. The findings of this study provide important information that can be used to design medication management methods for enhancing patient outcomes.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence (UI) affects almost one-third of adult women. This is often taken as a section of the aging process and incurable In general, women perceive UI as more of a social issue and a taboo rather than a medical problem; they are reluctant to discuss the matter or seek assistance. OBJECTIVE: This research was conducted to investigate the level of social isolation and depression in female employees with UI during the COVID-19 pandemic period. METHODS: The study was done with 533 paticipant. The study data were done using the Nottingham Health Profile Social Isolation Scale (NHPSIS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). RESULTS: The total scores of the NHPSIS and BDI were found to be 18.55±3.3 (minimum = 5, maximum = 25) and 49.22±11.4 (minimum = 12, maximum = 60), respectively. In the Pearson correlation analysis, a strong, statistically significant, and positive correlation was discovered between NHPSIS and the average BDI total scores among women. CONCLUSION: The level of depression and social isolation were obtained to be high among UI women who had a mix UI, high frequencies of UI, belong to higher age groups, singles, and high body mass index. It was showed that the levels of depression and social isolation scores were showed to be high in women had UI.

Abstract:Urinary incontinence (UI) is common in elder women. Urgency urinary incontinence(UUI) is the common type of UI. Millions of women worldwide suffer from UUI nowadays, which seriously affects the health and life quality of female patients. With the aging of population in our country, the incidence of UUI increases. With the needs of quality of life rising gradually, the diagnosis and treatment of the disease are also increasingly valued and keeping step forward. However, there is still lack of one single and effective treatment for the disease,so that comprehensive treatments are used commonly. Abstract:Introduction and hypothesis Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common health problem and influences women’s quality of life significantly. In order to enhance health education according to a specific situation, it is essential to identify barriers to seeking help among elderly women with nonsevere SUI. The objectives were to investigate reasons for (not) seeking help for nonsevere SUI among women aged ≥60 years, and to analyze factors affecting help-seeking behavior. Methods We enrolled 368 women aged ≥60 years with nonsevere SUI from communities. They were asked to filled out sociodemographic information, International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form (ICIQ-SF), Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QOL), and self-constructed questiones on help-seeking behavior. Mann–Whitney U tests were used to analyze the different factors between seeking group and nonseeking group. Results Only 28 women (7.61%) had ever sought help from health professionals for SUI. The most frequent reason for seeking help was urine-soaked clothes (67.86%, 19 out of 28). The most frequent reason for not seeking help was that women thought it was normal (67.35%, 229 out of 340). Compared with the nonseeking group, the seeking group had higher total ICIQ-SF scores and lower total I-QOL scores. Conclusion Among elderly women with nonsevere SUI, the rate of seeking help was low. Lack of correct perception about the SUI kept women from doctor visits. Women who were bothered by more severe SUI and lower quality of life were more likely to seek help.

Abstract:Abstract Background This review of studies on urinary incontinence (UI) was focused primarily on UI prevalence rates and associated factors across the adult lifecourse of Chinese women. UI is a urologic symptom that can have a significant impact on women's physical and mental health and quality of life. In addition, women with UI may experience socioeconomic burdens due to UI’s effect on their ability to work and function in society. Although researchers from many countries have reported prevalence rates and associated factors for UI, little is known about the prevalence of UI in China’s large female population. Language may act as a barrier to the inclusion of published studies in English-language journals. To overcome this barrier and to add to the global knowledge base about UI in women, the authors reviewed and discussed findings from epidemiological studies published in China and in Chinese language. Methods The authors retrieved research studies from the Wanfang database using the following search terms: "Subject: (Female) × Subject: (Urinary incontinence) × Subject: (Prevalence) × Date: 2013 to 2019". Searches employed the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals and China Biology Medicine Database. The authors also used PubMed to search English-language studies published in Chinese journals on UI in Chinese women. Results This literature review includes 48 articles published between January 2013 and December 2019. The overall UI prevalence rates reported in adult Chinese women ranged from 8.7 to 69.8%, representing 43–349 million women, respectively. For women aged 17–40 years, 41–59 years, and 60 years and older, prevalence rates ranged from 2.6–30.0, 8.7–47.7, to 16.9–61.6%, respectively. Significant associated factors for overall UI included age, body mass index, constipation, parity, and menopause. Despite the 17–40 age range being peak reproductive years, the literature revealed little focus on UI prevalence rates. For women aged 41–59 years, the main associated factors included those related to pregnancy and gynecologic diseases. For women 60 years and older, chronic diseases represented most of the associated factors. Conclusions About 43–349 million Chinese women may experience UI. Many of the identified associated factors could be mitigated to reduce UI incidence and prevalence rates. Little is known about the prevalence rates and associated factors for UI among young (aged 17–40) Chinese women. Future research should investigate UI in young women to improve bladder health across their lifecourse.
