Abstract:With the increased utilization of renewable energy, coal-fired power plants usually operate at lower loads, which leads to unstable combustion and high NO x emissions. In this study, the nitrogen conversion characteristics of preheating combustion were explored in a 40 kW th test platform. The results show that in the preheating stage, NH 3 was the major NO x precursor but it was significantly inhibited by the pre-denitrification mechanism. The yield of NH 3 increased and then decreased with decreasing load, and the inflection point (455 mg/m 3 ) occurred at 75 % load. The yield of tar-N increased sharply at 25%–38 % load, of which the main component was amine nitrogen. Furthermore, in the combustion stage, the conversion ratio of NO and N 2 O decreased and then increased as the load decreased, and the inflection point occurred at 38 % load. The NO x emissions were maintained at 38–325 mg/m 3 (@6 % O 2 ) in a wide load range due to pre-denitrification and deep air-staged combustion. However, it is noteworthy that N 2 O was generated up to 36 mg/m 3 and 76 mg/m 3 (@6 % O 2 ) at 38 % and 25 % loads.
