Abstract:Context: Urological diseases vary from one geographical location to another worldwide. The knowledge of their distribution in each location could determine local workforce and facility needs and as well guide the areas of subspecialization. Aims: The aim of this study is to document the annual frequency and distribution of urological diseases at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. Settings and design: A cross-sectional retrospective study from January 2016 to December 2016 of all new patients seen at the urology outpatient clinic, emergency department as well as inpatient referrals from other departments of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, Nigeria. Materials and methods: The relevant records were extracted from the patient's case notes and entered into a semistructured questionnaire. Statistical analysis used: Data were analyzed using the SPSS software version 20. Results: A total of 607 new patients were seen over the study period. There were 576 (94.9%) males and 31 (5.1%) females, with a male-to-female ratio of 18.6:1. The median age was 45 years, with age range of 1-106 years. Urological emergencies were seen in 35.0% patients. Ninety-one percent of cases were acquired, whereas 8.2% were of congenital etiology. Overall, the most commonly diagnosed urologic diseases among new patients in order of decreasing frequency were benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) (18.6%), bladder tumor (11.8%), upper tract urinary calculi (10.3%), urethral stricture (8.9%), and prostate adenocarcinoma (7.4%). Conclusions: BPE, bladder tumor, upper tract urinary calculi, urethral stricture, and prostate adenocarcinoma are common in our environment. Knowledge of these diseases distribution may guide service expansion and workforce needs, inspire subspecialization as well as direct research and government policy in this community. Nongovernmental organizations wanting to have impact will be suitably directed.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the difference in intracellular calcium ion [Ca2+]i concentration in prostate smooth muscle cells (PSMCs) between SD rat models of chronic abacterial prostatitis (CAP) and normal controls, and to evaluate the role of [Ca2+]i concentration in CAP. METHODS We established CAP models in SD rats using purified prostate protein and Freund's complete adjuvant, cultured in vitro and then purified the PSMCs of both the CAP models and normal controls. Continuous dynamic scanning was performed under the laser confocal scanning microscope after incubation of the cells with FLUO-3AM. RESULTS The fluorescence intensities of [Ca2+]i in the PSMCs were 80.39 +/- 9.00 and 27.95 +/- 10.04 in the CAP models and normal controls, respectively, with statistically significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The concentration of [Ca2+]i increased in the PSMCs of the CAP rat models, which might enhance the constriction of PSMCs and subsequently increase the sensibility to pain and cause lower abdominal pain.

Abstract:This paper considers the interpretation of serological typing data as a problem in forensic science, as opposed to a problem in population genetics or statistics. Controversies arising in this area are partly due to an overly narrow perspective that ignores basic forensic science principles. After an initial discussion of the special problem that deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) blood typing poses to forensic science, the three difficulties common to all the proposed interpretive methods are discussed. These are: predicting genotype incidence from allele frequencies, predicting frequencies for the joint occurrence of genotypes in a number of different genetic marker systems, and determining the appropriate population to use to measure the frequencies. The inability to test assumptions that are inherent in our routine methods is noted. This is a procedural weakness that unnecessarily limits the admissibility of DNA typing evidence in court. A practical solution to this problem is offered that begins with minimal assumptions. Initially a statement is made based on (1) how many reference samples the laboratory has typed and (2) how many of these samples show genotypes corresponding to the case samples. The second stage of the presentation begins with a statement that additional assumptions are necessary to fully interpret the evidence and that although these assumptions are scientifically very reasonable, they cannot be absolutely proven. The presentation can then proceed, if desired, to consideration of the specific assumptions and frequency estimates of any of the methods that have been proposed to date. To follow this approach population data must be kept in a form that allows the simple first-stage statement to be made. This means that each individual's record would include typing results in each genetic marker system. Although this method of data storage differs from that used in most forensic science laboratories, it is exceptionally versatile, and allows great flexibility in data analysis.
Urinary tract infections and associated factors among patients with an enlarged prostate at a tertiary hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: a hospital-based cross-sectional study

Abstract:Objectives The objectives are to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infection (UTI) and associated factors among patients diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Design Hospital-based cross-sectional study. Settings Urology clinic and urology ward at Muhimbili National Hospital, which is the main tertiary hospital in Tanzania's largest city. Participants Patients with benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer presenting with genitourinary symptoms. Main outcome measure The primary outcome was the occurrence of UTI and factors associated with UTI in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Results 402 participants were enrolled, with a median age of 68 years and IQR of 61–75 years. The proportion of UTI was 46.5% (95% CI 41.56% to 51.53%). UTI was more prevalent among inpatients, patients with indwelling urinary catheters, patients with prostate size>80 cm 3 and those with residual urine volume of >100 mL. In multivariate analysis, age>60 years (adjusted OR (aOR)=2.0, 95% CI 1.13 to 3.55, p=0.018), post-void residual urine volume>100 mL (aOR 1.32, 95% CI 0.67 to 2.59 p=0.001), patient with incomplete bladder emptying (aOR=2.57, 95% CI 1.44 to 4.59, p=0.001) and prolonged catheter duration (aOR=1.24, 95% CI 1.11 to 1.38, p=0.005) were significantly associated with UTI. Conclusion Almost half of the patients with an enlarged prostate and genitourinary symptoms had a laboratory-confirmed UTI. The risk of UTI increases with age, incomplete bladder emptying and increased duration of catheterisation. A 1-day increase in the duration of catheterisation increased the risk of UTI by 24%.

Urological infections in the developing world: an increasing problem in developed countries

Abstract:Purpose: Infectious diseases that often follow geographical distribution patterns are increasingly crossing such boundaries, aided by human travel and commerce. These pose a new challenge to physicians who are required to diagnose previously unseen conditions and address drug-resistant organisms. We review some such common infections. Methods: A literature review was performed for six common urological infections and a narrative review based on recent publications on these infections was compiled. Results: In Urology, some infections that are now crossing geographical boundaries include Brucellosis, Schistosomiasis, Tuberculosis, Filariasis, Hydatidosis and emphysematous pyelonephritis. Brucellosis, a zoonotic infection, is common in the Mediterranean areas, Asia, South America and Africa. Infection can involve all parts of the genitourinary tract. Schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease, is particularly common in Sub-Saharan Africa and may have bacterial superinfection. Voiding symptoms are common and bladder carcinoma may develop. Tuberculosis affects almost every organ in the body and in the male genital system, often presents with abscesses, nodules, ulcers and infertility that is difficult to manage. Filariasis is caused by two species of worms and is transmitted through a bite from a mosquito carrying larvae of the worm. It causes lymphatic obstruction leading to scrotal edema, hydrocoele to elephantiasis of scrotum. Emphysematous pyelonephritis is a life-threatening suppurative necrotizing infection of the renal parenchyma. While not being geographically limited, it is more common in developing areas with poor health care access. Genitourinary hydatidosis is a rare disease that is associated mainly with renal involvement in the genitourinary tract. Large cysts with destruction of renal parenchyma may be found. Conclusions: Although uncommon, these urological infections are associated with significant morbidity and mortality and awareness in all healthcare settings is now an essential requirement.

Abstract:an observation; diagnoses recorded on death certificates were never part of our original hypothesis and cannot be used in the inferential process. We do not agree with Gross et al. that it is scientifically valid to include a long-term outcome (death with a cancer-related diagnosis) in a predictive model based on the perioperative physical status of the patient. Dr. Roth’s suggestion that blood transfusion and extracorporeal circulation may have synergistic adverse effects is not unreasonable. Certainly, this is one explanation for the observation that cardiac surgery is the only clinical setting where adverse transfusion-related immunomodulation effects have been conclusively demonstrated. Our study data does not help to clarify this suggestion, however, as most of our transfused patients were exposed to extracorporeal circulation. None of this is any reason to promote the use of blood. The short-term risks are compelling, as are the huge costs and the ever diminishing resource. However, we should not be misinforming patients who have survived more than 2 months after coronary artery grafts that they have a serious risk of premature death as a result of a moderate transfusion of blood products.

Abstract:Background: The testes are the male reproductive glands and the homolog of the ovary in females performing critical functions. Pathologic conditions could arise from the testes and blunt or completely obliterate these functions leading to clinically overt or covert sequelae. The aim of this research is to study the pattern of histologically diagnosed testicular disease in relation to clinical features at the Jos University Teaching Hospital between January 2012 and December 31st, 2021. Methodology: This study is a retrospective analysis of all cases of testicular biopsies. All histologically diagnosed testicular lesions were identified from the departmental records and clinical data obtained further from the patients' folder at the Medical Records Department. Results: Four hundred and thirty (430) biopsies were seen, of which 304 (70.7%) were orchidectomy specimens. The commonest histological diagnosis was testicular atrophy accounting for 328(76.3%) cases. Testicular torsion is followed by 42(9.8%) cases. Together, inflammatory conditions accounted for 36(8.4%) cases out of which granulomatous inflammation made up 52.3% of cases. There were 16(3.7%) neoplastic conditions all of which were malignant, out of which 6(37.5%) were seminomas. The age range, mean, median and modal age was 1-90 years, 53.4 +21.3years, 60 years and 70 years respectively. Prostatic carcinoma therapy in the form of bilateral orchidectomy was the major indication for surgery. Conclusion: The majority of testicular lesions in our locality are atrophies and most of these lesions are obtained as orchidectomies for therapy of prostatic cancer.
Epidemiological Trends of Urolithiasis at the Global, Regional, and National Levels: A Population-Based Study

Abstract:Background. Urolithiasis is common worldwide and can predispose to urinary tract infections and renal failure. We aimed to explore the global, regional, and national burden of urolithiasis between 1990 and 2019, stratified by sex, age, and sociodemographic index (SDI). Methods. From 1990 to 2019, data on the number of incident cases of urolithiasis, associated deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. The trends for the incidence rate, mortality, and DALYs were evaluated using estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs). Results. The incidence of urolithiasis increased by 48.57%, from 77.78 million incident cases in 1990 to 115.55 million in 2019, while its age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) decreased. The ASIR increased slightly in the low SDI regions (EAPC = 0.33; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.24-0.43), while ASIRs in other SDI regions decreased. The incidence of urolithiasis by age presented a unimodal distribution, with the peak observed in patients aged between 50 years and 70 years. Urolithiasis-related mortality and DALYs also increased over time. Yet, the age-standardized death rate (ASDR) decreased by 2.05% (95% CI, -2.25% to -1.85%) per year, and the annual age-standardized DALY rate decreased by 1.77% (95% CI, -1.92% to -1.63%). The mortality and DALYs increased with age. The incidence, mortality, and DALYs were greater in males than those in females. The burden of urolithiasis showed obvious differences in its regional distribution over the past three decades. Conclusion. From 1990 to 2019, ASIR, ASDR, and age-standardized DALY rate of urolithiasis have decreased. Yet, particularly significant differences exist in the geographic, age, and sex distribution. Thus, medical resources should be rationally allocated and adjusted according to the geographic and demographic distribution of urolithiasis.
Assessment of Factors Contributing to Delayed Surgeries in Enlarged Prostate Patients: A Survey at Kisumu County Referral Hospital

Abstract:Enlarged prostate, also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is the enlargement of the prostate gland in men resulting in frequent urination, weak urine stream, and inability to completely empty the bladder. Prostate cancer is the second most commonly occurring cancer in men and the fourth most commonly occurring cancer overall. There were 1.3 million new cases of prostate cancer globally in 2018. Although there is a scarcity of information on the disease in African men, past studies have revealed that the disease can be managed if detected in its early stages. The purpose of the study was to assess the factors contributing to delayed surgeries in enlarged prostate patients at Kisumu County Referral hospital. Specific objectives were to determine the level of knowledge and awareness on enlarged prostate; assess institutional factors hindering surgeries in enlarged prostate and determine socio-economic factors of the patients’ hindering surgeries in enlarged prostate at Kisumu County Referral hospital. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The study targeted enlarged prostate patients and top management of the Kisumu County Referral Hospital from which a sample of 50 respondents was selected using the inclusion-exclusion criteria to participate in the study. The study adopted structured questionnaires for data collection. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics with both qualitative and quantitative analysis and the findings were presented in frequency distribution tables and percentages. The study achieved a questionnaire return rate of 94% with the majority of the respondents, 45%, earning a monthly income ranging from 10,000 to 20,000. Findings revealed that 91%, had knowledge of prostate cancer with 83% stating that the medium through which they learned of the disease was the media, friends, relatives, and at the workplace. Unwillingness to be screened for prostate cancer was due to a lack of knowledge (53%). The study established the hospital was crowded, 78%, and thus the available resources were not sufficient to cater to the population seeking medical attention. Institutional factors related to doctors’/nurses’ workmanship were the common contributors to delayed surgeries and medical attention in terms of negligence, 66%, poor communication channels hence conflicting information, 72%, and doctors’/nurses’ competence at work, 42%. Evidently, the family plays a major role in one’s health decisions especially pertaining to chronic diseases such as cancer, 66%. Lack of finances limits access to quality and timely healthcare with 83% and 87% respectively. Conclusively, the majority of the delays in surgeries in enlarged prostate patients at the hospital were due to the institution’s inability in terms of resources, facilities, and qualified and competent personnel. Socio-economic factors also contributed to delayed surgeries in enlarged prostate patients at Kisumu County Referral Hospital. The study recommends mobilization and sensitization to create awareness and increase the knowledge of prostate cancer, the government should intervene through improving the facilities, resources, and staff as a measure to manage the ever-increasing population seeking medical care at the hospital and to find ways of reducing medical costs, especially for cancer patients, so as to enable victims’ access medical care with ease.
Chemical analysis of uroliths: A two-center study of doctors' practice and perspective in South-East, Nigeria

Abstract:Introduction: Urolithiasis is a global disease condition secondary to a variety of factors, and sometimes associated with serious complications. Determination of stone composition is important in delineating causative factors. Knowledge of causative and precipitating factors aids patient management and prevention of recurrence. Objective: The authors' aim was to evaluate the practice and perspective of doctors regarding chemical analysis of stones in management of urolithiasis. Materials and methods: This comparative cross-sectional study was done between December 2016 and May 2017 in two teaching hospitals in South-East, Nigeria. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Results: In all, 88 doctors with mean (standard deviation) age of 37.3 (9.5) years participated in the study. Urinary bladder stones were the most frequently managed, 51 (58.0%); 45 (51.1%) participants do not routinely send stones for chemical analysis. All respondents (100%) agreed that stone analysis is beneficial to patient management. Conclusion: This study showed that in spite of all respondents affirming that chemical analysis of uroliths is beneficial to patient management, more than half of respondents do not routinely send stones for analysis.
Erectile Dysfunction: Prevalence, and Pattern among Adult Male Patients Attending the General Out-Patient Clinic of Federal Medical Centre Bida, Nigeria

Abstract:Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is usually underestimated in many developing countries, Nigeria inclusive. Introduction: ED is associated with stigma and poor health seeking behaviour and is assumed not to be life-threatening. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of ED and the pattern among adult males. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional hospital-based survey among 360 sexually active men aged 18 years and above seen in the GOPC of Federal Medical Centre, Bida. Self-reported ED was obtained using a structured questionnaire administered by an interviewer. The prevalence and severity of ED was obtained using the International Index of Erectile Function-5 Questionnaire (IIEF-5). Results: The age range of respondents was 22-75 years with a mean age of 42.06(11.35) years. The prevalence of ED was 56.4%, with 29.4% having mild ED, 24.2% had mild-moderate ED and 2.8% had moderate ED. The prevalence of ED was noted to increase with increasing age as ED was more prevalent (100%) among men aged 70-79 years and least common among the younger (20-29) subjects (30.9%). Most of the respondents 198 (54.9%) had sexual intercourse at least thrice a week, while only 158 (43.9%) of respondents were extremely satisfied with their sexual life. About 175 (48.6%) of the respondents had experienced embarrassment over sexual performance, while a greater proportion of the respondents 239 (66.4%) had used performance-enhancing drugs. Despite this, only 20 (5.6%) of the respondents had ever complained of ED in the hospital. Traditional and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs were the commonest source of performance-enhancing drugs 106 (44.4%). Conclusion: Erectile dysfunction is a common medical and social problem in our environment. Physicians should routinely ask their patients about their sexual health and erectile dysfunction.

Abstract:Background: Epidemiological investigations have revealed an important association between infection, inflammation and prostate cancer. Certain bacterial species, such as Klebsiella spp, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp, Proteus mirabilis, Chlamydia trachomatis have been linked to prostate cancer. This study aimed to examine the microbiota; specifically bacterial species that have been linked to prostate infections in the urine of individuals diagnosed with prostate cancer. Results: Sixty-six prostate cancer patients and forty controls provided midstream urine samples. The urine samples were grown on suitable medium, and bacterial isolates were detected by standard microbiological methods. Additionally, the antibiotic sensitivity pattern of the bacterial isolates was analysed. A total of number of 72 bacterial isolates were obtained from the urine of study participants. The results showed the presence of Escherichia coli (50.0%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (18.1%), Klebsiella spp (15.3%), Staphylococcus aureus (8.3%), Enterobacter spp (4.2%), and Proteus mirabilis (2.8%) in the urine. The most common bacterial species isolated from prostate cancer patients was Escherichia coli, which was susceptible to levofloxacin (100%), tobramycin (91.7%), and amikacin (62.5%). Conclusions: This study's findings established the presence of bacteria previously linked to prostatitis. This report indicates a high prevalence of pro-inflammatory bacteria and uropathogens in the urinary tract of men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Epidemiology Trend of Urogenital System Disorders of Hospitalized Patients in an Eastern Chinese City from 2017 to 2019

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate trends in the prevalence and clinical characteristics of urogenital diseases in hospitalized patients of secondary and tertiary hospitals in Ningbo, an east coast city in China, from 2017 to 2019. Methods: We collected the data on hospitalized patients in Ningbo secondary and tertiary hospitals from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. The data included age, sex, and diagnosis identified using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, which were obtained from Ningbo National Health Information Platform. We quantified the epidemiology (age/sex-specific) trend of urogenital system disorders. Results: From January 2017 to December 2019, there were 256750 hospitalized patients with urogenital system disorders. These hospitalized patients comprised more women than men (1.45:1.00). The number of hospitalized patients with these diseases significantly increased over the 3 years (77505, 89167, and 90078, respectively; Z = 20.03, p < 0.001). The highest prevalence of these diseases was in the 40- to 64-year-old age group (47.37%), followed by the 18- to 39-year-old age group (23.94%). Over the 3 years, the five most common diseases in hospitalized male patients were male reproductive organ disorders, urolithiasis, tubulointerstitial disease, renal failure, and glomerular disease; Whereas the five most common diseases in hospitalized female patients were non-inflammatory disorders of the female genital tract, benign or dynamic undetermined tumors of the female reproductive organs, disorders of breast (according to ICD-10, disorders of breast (N60-N64) were involved in urogenital system diseases (N00-N99)), inflammatory diseases of female pelvic organs, and renal tubulointerstitial disease. In addition, the number of inpatients with renal tubulointerstitial disease significantly increased from 5952 to 9616 over the 3 years (rank increased from 6 to 3). Conclusions: Patients with urogenital system disorders significantly increased over the 3 years, occurring more often in women and most commonly in young and middle-aged people, which warrants more attention in clinical practice.
Epidemiology Trend of Chronic Kidney Disease in a Semi-Urban Tertiary Hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract:Background The global burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been on an alarming increase in the last two decades. The morbidity and mortality associated with CKD are even worse in Nigeria, like other developing countries, due to multiple socioeconomic and demographic factors in the country. CKD contributes to the increasing need for hospital admission. Hypertension and chronic glomerulonephritis have been the leading causes of CKD in Nigeria. However, diabetic nephropathy has recently gained more significance as a cause of CKD in developing countries. Aim and methods This study aimed to describe the current trend in the burden and population characteristics of CKD in Southern Nigeria. This is a cross-sectional, hospital-based study. The study recruited adult patients with prehemodialysis CKD seen in renal clinics over a two-year period (November 2014 to October 2016). Data were obtained using a questionnaire and from the clinic register. All participants were clinically assessed, including history, anthropometric measurements, and urinary albumin-creatinine ratio. Results A total of 1,549 patients were seen at the Medical Outpatient Clinic over the study period. CKD accounted for 9.7% of medical outpatient clinic attendance. The mean age of participants was 49±13 years. The leading causes of CKD were diabetes mellitus (32%), chronic glomerulonephritis (30%), and hypertension (22%). Among the participants, CKD stages 3, 4, and 5 were prevalent in 26.7%, 43.3%, and 14.7%, respectively. Conclusion and recommendation CKD is very prevalent among medical clinic patients. Diabetic nephropathy seems to be a more significant cause of CKD than was previously reported. Late presentation of patients to nephrologists remains an obstacle to improving CKD outcome in Nigeria. There is need for more intensive preventive measures and early intervention.
Reporting Standard Compliance in Publications of Vestibular Schwannoma Patients Treated With Microsurgery

Abstract:Background In 2003, Kanzaki and colleagues published a set of reporting standards for vestibular schwannoma (VS) to serve as a guide for future publication, with the specific purpose of promoting standardization of reporting results in VS. Objective Here, the current published body of literature on VS cases treated with microsurgery was reviewed to determine its degree of adherence to consensus guidelines. Methods A comprehensive search of the English language literature was performed to identify studies reporting outcome data in patients treated with microsurgery for VSs. Each publication was reviewed to determine whether it had properly reported each of the 7 items relevant to surgical management described in the Consensus Meeting reporting guidelines. The number of studies that had included each of the key items before and after the publication of the reporting guidelines was compared. Results After the publication of the standards, there were a significantly greater proportion of studies that properly reported the nature of the tumor and facial nerve function. Since the publication of the Consensus Meeting Guidelines, there also were trends toward greater proportions of articles that properly reported the size, hearing function, preoperative symptoms, and postoperative complications of the patients treated. Conclusion Since the release of the reporting system guidelines for VS, the focus of the publications seems to have shifted away from basic clinical characteristics and toward posttreatment neurologic function. Future studies reporting the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes for patients with VS cases should strive to include all the elements described in the Consensus Meeting guidelines.

Abstract:Our aim was to determine the current trend of endourology in the management of upper urinary tract calculi in Africa reference centres. We conducted an online multiple-choice questionnaire survey involving 46 centres from 27 countries using a structured well-designed Google Form (®) questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed to the head of service through their emails. The questions collected demographic data about the centre, the epidemiology of urolithiasis, diagnostic means and management of upper urolithiasis, especially access to endourology procedures and their practices. Descriptive analyses were performed. The participation rate was 77.9%. Urinary lithiasis was one of the three main pathologies encountered in 42/46 centres. 33 centres had easy access to CT scanners and 34 had operating theatres equipped with endo-urological surgery equipment. Of these 34 centres, 30 perform endourology for the management of upper urinary tract stones. Rigid ureteroscopy is the main technique used by the centres. It is the only endourology technique used for stone management by 12 centres (40%). 7/30 (23.3%) have the option of performing rigid ureteroscopy, flexible ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. The frequency of procedures varies widely, with 43.3% rarely performing endourological surgery. Seventeen centres have their operating theatre equipped with a fluoroscope and 6/42 centres have extracorporeal lithotripsy. Open surgery is still used in 29/42 centres (69.1%). Laparoscopy is available in 50% of centres, but none reported performing laparoscopic lithotomy. In Africa, urinary lithiasis plays an important role in the activities of referral centres. Modern management techniques are used to varying degrees (not all centres have them) and with very variable frequency. Open surgery is still widely performed as a management. Rigid ureteroscopy is the main endourological technique. It is essential to develop the practice of modern urology in Africa, mainly endourology.
