Abstract:We report on the investigation of continuous-wave (CW) and SEmiconductor Saturable Absorber Mirror (SESAM) mode-locked operation of a Yb:GdScO3 laser. Using a single-transverse-mode, fiber-coupled InGaAs laser diode at 976 nm as a pump source, the Yb:GdScO3 laser delivers 343 mW output power at 1062 nm in the CW regime, which corresponds to a slope efficiency of 52%. Continuous tuning is possible across a wavelength range of 84 nm (1027-1111 nm). Using a commercial SESAM to initiate mode-locking and stabilize soliton-type pulse shaping, the Yb:GdScO3 laser produces pulses as short as 42 fs at 1065.9 nm, with an average output power of 40 mW at 66.89 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of passively mode-locking with Yb:GdScO3 crystal.

Abstract:We report on sub-50 fs pulse generation from a passively mode-locked Yb:SrF2 laser pumped with a spatially single-mode, fiber-coupled laser diode at 976 nm. In the continuous-wave regime, the Yb:SrF2 laser generated a maximum output power of 704 mW at 1048 nm with a threshold of 64 mW and a slope efficiency of 77.2%. A continuous wavelength tuning across 89 nm (1006 - 1095 nm) was achieved with a Lyot filter. By implementing a SEmiconductor Saturable Absorber Mirror (SESAM) for initiating and sustaining the mode-locked operation, soliton pulses as short as 49 fs were generated at 1057 nm with an average output power of 117 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼75.9 MHz. The maximum average output power of the mode-locked Yb:SrF2 laser was scaled up to 313 mW for slightly longer pulses of 70 fs at 1049.4 nm, corresponding to a peak power of 51.9 kW and an optical efficiency of 34.7%.

Abstract:We report on the first sub-60 fs pulse generated from a diode-pumped SESAM mode-locked Yb-laser based on a non-centrosymmetric Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 crystal as a gain medium. In the continuous-wave regime, pumping with a spatially single-mode, fiber-coupled 976 nm InGaAs laser diode, the Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 laser generated 391 mW at 1041.7 nm with a slope efficiency as high as 65.1%, and a wavelength tuning across 59 nm (1019 to 1078 nm) was achieved. By implementing a commercial SESAM to initiate and sustain the soliton type mode-locking, and using only a 1 mm-thick laser crystal, the Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 laser delivered pulses as short as 56 fs at a central wavelength of 1044.6 nm with an average output power of 76 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼67.55 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this result represents the shortest pulses ever achieved from Yb:YAB crystal.

Abstract:We report on sub-40 fs pulse generation from a Yb:Sc2SiO5 laser pumped by a spatially single-mode fiber-coupled laser diode at 976 nm. A maximum output power of 545 mW was obtained at 1062.6 nm in the continuous-wave regime, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 64% and a laser threshold of 143 mW. A continuous wavelength tuning across 80 nm (1030 -1110 nm) was also achieved. Implementing a SESAM for starting and stabilizing the mode-locked operation, the Yb:Sc2SiO5 laser delivered soliton pulses as short as 38 fs at 1069.5 nm with an average output power of 76 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼79.8 MHz. The maximum output power was scaled to 216 mW for slightly longer pulses of 42 fs, which corresponded to a peak power of 56.6 kW and an optical efficiency of 22.7%. To the best of our knowledge, these results represent the shortest pulses ever achieved with any Yb3+-doped rare-earth oxyorthosilicate crystal.

Abstract:A new Yb-doped crystal Yb3+: Lu2SiO5 laser was demonstrated. The laser was Q-switched at 1058nm by an InGaAs saturable absorber above 25KHz. The slope efficiency were 4.6% and 3.0% for CW and Q-switched laser respectively.

Abstract:Lead, cadmium and mercury are non-essential heavy metals that may interfere with biological systems, exhibiting high toxicity to human and marine biota. Due to bioaccumulation of heavy metals in the food chain, seafood may concentrate high levels of these contaminants since they are often at the top of aquatic food chain. In this study, 342 seafood samples, subdivided into four categories (bivalve molluscs, cephalopod molluscs, blue-fish and other sea fish), were analysed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, in order to assess the levels of lead, cadmium and mercury. Contamination levels higher than allowable limits were verified. In particular, two bivalve mollusc samples were non-compliant for lead and cadmium, four cephalopod mollusc samples non-compliant for cadmium and 14 samples (4 blue-fish and 10 other sea fish) non-compliant for mercury. This survey confirmed the necessity to perform routinely controls related to this type of food inspection.

Abstract:We demonstrate a 980-nm Q-switch Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber laser by a multilayer molybdenum sulfide polymer composite as the broadband saturable absorber which is prepared by the chemical vapor deposition method. We achieve passively Q-switching operations at 978 nm with the pulse width of 2.7 and 0.63 μs, corresponding to the repetition rate of 212 and 221 kHz, respectively. The maximum output power is 127 mW. It is the first time that MoS 2 Q-switched Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber laser at 980 nm is demonstrated. The experimental results show that few-layer MoS 2 is a promising broadband saturable absorber material.

Abstract:New Yb-doped crystal Yb~(3+)∶Lu_2SiO_5(Yb∶LSO) lasers pumped by diode-laser at 976 nm with passively Q-switched and multi-wavelength continuous-wave(CW) output were demonstrated.The maximum CW output power was 490 mW with the absorbed pump power of(2.57 W.) The slope efficiency and optical-optical conversion efficiency were(22.2%) and(14.2%) respectively.The threshold was(299 mW,) and the laser wavelength was(1084 nm.) The wavelength could be tunable from 1034 to(1085 nm) with a prism.For the Q-switched output,the laser operated at(1058 nm) with an InGaAs semiconductor saturable absorber mirror(SESAM).The Q-switched output slope efficiency of(3.0%) with the maximum absorbed pump power of(1.73 W) was also obtained.The pulse repetition rate was 25～(39 kHz) and was increased with the pump power increased.

Abstract:The passive Q-switching performance of an Yb:LaCa4O(BO3)(3) crystal laser was investigated for the first time to our knowledge. Stable repetitively pulsed laser action was demonstrated with a 2D MoTe2 saturable absorber under high output couplings ranging from 70% up to 95%. A maximum pulsed output power of 2.11 W was produced at a repetition rate of 357 kHz, with a slope efficiency of 32% in terms of incident pump power. The largest pulse energy, minimum pulse duration, and highest peak power achievable were, respectively, 6.6 mu J, 103 ns, and 52.4 W. Our work suggests that this relatively new monoclinic oxyborate crystal may be more advantageous over most of other Yb-ion materials in making high-energy pulsed lasers passively Q-switched with 2D saturable absorbers.

Abstract:We report on a femtosecond semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) mode-locked Yb:LuYAG laser. Pumped by a 976 nm single-mode fiber laser, a self-starting mode-locked Yb:LuYAG laser was demonstrated, delivering a 618-mW output power with 140-fs pulses and a 95.4-MHz repetition rate. The output spectrum is centered at 1053 nm with a spectral width of 10.4 nm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the shortest pulse ever generated from a mode-locked Yb:LuYAG laser.

[The image of psychotherapies - a comparison between prospective therapists and laypersons].

Abstract:OBJECTIVES Considering the specific situation of psychotherapy in Austria with its wide range of different therapeutic methods which are accredited by law, we investigated their respective level of familiarity and the connotative associations of future therapists and of a sample group of the lay public regarding the different schools. METHODS 175 persons (students of economics, students at the university clinic for psychoanalysis, and prospective psychotherapists) were interviewed concerning terms of familiarity and popularity of the therapeutic methods. Using the semantic differential we tried to operationalize the resonant connotative associations. RESULTS There is insufficient information with regards to the existence of the various different schools on the side of the lay public. The connotations of the different groups are similar: independent of the level of familiarity, 4 different types of therapy can cluster-analytically be identified in relation to the 3 factors of the polarity profile (activity-potency-valence). CONCLUSIONS More extensive information of the public concerning the different therapeutic possibilities is needed. Further the importance of considering subjective connotations in situations of referral and indication is discussed. Specific attention has been given to the situation of prospective psychotherapists.

Abstract:We report an oblique incidence on semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) method in the LID pumped passively mode-locked Nd:YVO4 picosecond laser in this article, making SESAM as the intracavity reflecting mirror, which produces maximum average output power of 1 W, pulse repetition rate of 120 MHz, and stable continuous mode-locked pulse at 1064 nm with the pulse width of 19.2 ps. To our knowledge, this was the first demonstration that got CW mode-locking in standing-wave laser with a reflected mirror SESAM in oblique incidence way.

Abstract:We report on the passive Q-switching laser performance of Yb:LaCa4O(BO3)(3) crystal with Cr4+:YAG or two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 acting as a saturable absorber. With Cr4+: YAG, a pulsed output power of 3.8 W was produced at 71 kHz with a slope efficiency of 49%, whereas at a lower repetition rate, the average pulse energy achieved could reach 250 mu J; the shortest duration and peak power were respectively 17 ns and 14.7 kW. For passive Q-switching with 2D MoS2, 1.61 W of pulsed output power was achieved at 395 kHz; the resulting pulse energy, duration, and peak power were 4.1 mu J, 220 ns, and 18.6 W, respectively.

Abstract:Sub-100 fs laser pulses are generated in a Yb:GdScO 3 passively mode-locked laser based on a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The laser operates in the continuous wave mode-locked state with a repetition frequency of 81 MHz and a pulse width of 98 fs. The output pulses exhibit a high signal-to-noise ratio of 60 dB in the radio-frequency spectra, with a central wavelength of 1064.4 nm and a full width at half maximum of 12.4 nm. This achievement marks the first successful demonstration of an ultrafast laser in a Yb:GdScO 3 crystal, validating Yb:GdScO 3 as an ideal medium for generating ultrafast lasers.

Abstract:A quasi-continuous wave laser diode side-pumped passively Q-switched Yb:YAG slab laser with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber has been demonstrated in order to understand the pulse properties of Yb:YAG crystal. To our knowledge the maximum 69% extraction efficiency is achieved by the system. 44μJ pulse energy and 1.64KW peak power with near diffraction-limited beam quality are presented at 25Hz repetition rate. The build-up time of the Q-giant in the passively Q-switched laser is shown.
