Abstract:Facial appearance plays a significant role in the success of social interactions. There is a limited amount of evidence investigating the influence of combined orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment on the social judgments of lay people. The aim of this study was to investigate whether changes in facial appearance following orthognathic surgery alter the social judgements made by lay people. Ethical approval was granted from the University of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry Research Ethics Committee on 17th August 2020 (Reference: 033775). This cross-sectional, web-based survey involved clinical photographs of six Caucasian female patients pre- and post-combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment. Three patients had a pre-treatment class 2 skeletal pattern, and three patients had a pre-treatment class 3 skeletal pattern. Staff and students at the University of Sheffield, UK were invited to evaluate five personality traits: (i) friendliness, (ii) intelligence, (iii) attractiveness, (iv) self-confidence, and (5) trustworthiness using a 5-point Likert scale. The trait scores were summed to obtain a total social judgement score, and a paired t -test was used to compare the total scores from pre- and post-treatment images. There were 261 responses to the survey of which 181 (75%) were completed fully. The total social judgement scores from after treatment images were higher compared with the pre-treatment images (mean diff 1.6; P < .001) indicating more positive social judgements. The improvements in perceived social judgments were more notable for class 3 patients (mean diff 2.7) compared to class 2 patients (mean diff 0.7). Social judgement scores were higher (more positive) from post-treatment images of patient faces than their pre-treatment images. The findings highlight the possible indirect benefits combined orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment may have on an individual in a social setting.

Abstract:An effective orthodontic treatment should not only aim for satisfactory occlusal outcomes but also consider its impact on facial esthetics. The study aims to evaluate and compare the perception of profile esthetics of skeletal Class II patients treated with two orthodontic modalities: (1) Two-phase approach involving functional appliances followed by fixed appliances with premolar extractions, or (2) One-phase approach using fixed appliances with premolar extractions. Additionally, the study aims to evaluate the correlation between the perceived esthetics and the corresponding cephalometric measurements. The study included 40 skeletal Class II adolescents who underwent either two-phase (n = 20, mean age = 12.38 ± 1.18) or one-phase (n = 20, mean age = 12.53 ± 0.79) orthodontic treatments. Eighty profile silhouettes (pre- and post-treatment) were assessed by 64 raters, including 23 orthodontists, 21 general dental practitioners, and 20 laypersons. The raters used a visual analog scale (VAS) to access profiles, upper and lower lips, and chin esthetics. At pre-treatment, all three groups of raters gave significantly lower scores to the profile silhouettes of the two-phase group compared to the one-phase group ( P < 0.01); however, after treatment, they rated the two-phase group significantly higher ( P ≤ 0.001). The two-phase group exhibited greater improvements in profile and upper and lower lip esthetics as perceived by all raters ( P ≤ 0.001). Furthermore, cephalometric results revealed greater reductions in SNA, ANB, Wits appraisal, and G'-Sn-Pog' in the two-phase group compared to the one-phase group ( P < 0.05). Five cephalometric parameters (SNB, SNPog, overjet, overbite, and UL-SnPog') demonstrated significant correlations with VAS scores given by orthodontists ( P < 0.05). In conclusion, the two-phase group showed greater subjective and objective improvements in facial esthetics than the one-phase group. Additionally, the anteroposterior mandibular position and upper lip protrusion may be the primary cephalometric parameters correlated with subjective facial profile perceptions.

Abstract:Background Facial appearance significantly affects psychosocial well-being, and improvement in facial aesthetics is considered an essential outcome of orthognathic treatment. The surgery-first approach (SFA) has emerged as a promising alternative to the conventional orthodontics-first approach (OFA), due to its potential advantages in reducing treatment duration and cost, delivering early aesthetic improvement, and increasing patient satisfaction. However, the impact of the SFA on final facial aesthetics, and how it compares with the OFA, has not yet been investigated. Method: This retrospective study aimed to compare the improvement in facial aesthetics after orthognathic surgery, in an SFA and an OFA group. Pre- and postoperative three-dimensional stereophotogrammetry facial images for 40 patients were evaluated by five professional assessors using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS). Results: Similar aesthetic improvement outcomes were found for both the SFA and OFA groups. The GAIS score was significantly correlated with the following facial variables: upper lip projection, chin prominence, facial proportions, para-nasal hollowing, lip competence, mandibular projection, and facial profile. No significant correlation was found between the change in aesthetic score and the surgical variables. There was a positive association between the overall GAIS score and the gender and experience level of the individual assessors. Conclusion: This study suggests that the facial aesthetic improvement achieved with the SFA is satisfactory and comparable to that of the OFA.

Abstract:IN April, 1949, the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories made available to the Department of Health, Victoria, a sufficient quantity of a diphtheria prophylactic known as "P.T.A.P.". Holt and Bousfield (1949) have published results of their experience with this material, and their reports were favourable; consequently it was agreed to conduct a field trial with this product. To avoid too many variable factors and after consultation with the late Dr. Charles Adey, of the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, the following routine was agreed upon: (i)' All children would be Schick-tested without a control. (ii) The trial was to be limited to those definitely "Schick-positive" and not previously inoculated. (iii) The dosage was to be first dose 0'5 millilitre, and second dose 0·25 millilitre, given subcutaneously into the upper part of the left arm and right arm in that order. ' (Iv ) The intervals between doses were to be six weeks. (v) The post-Schick test with a control was to be carried out eight weeks after the second injection.

We present a method that enables resource-efficient component-based control software by extending hybrid property prediction methods (i.e. combining static and dynamic techniques) to be context-dependent, enabling less pessimistic extra-functional component property predictions and, hence, improved resource utilisation.
Esthetic preferences of orthodontists, general dentists, and laypersons for Indian facial profiles: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Background: Disparity in the esthetic perceptions between a patient and clinician could result in patient dissatisfaction with orthodontic treatment outcomes. The aim of this study was to compare the perceptions of a group of orthodontists, general dentists, and laypersons about the attractiveness of Indian facial profiles. Methods: In this study, a male and a female participants' photographs and lateral cephalograms were digitally manipulated by inserting them into Dolphin software; we considered four soft tissue parameters at a nasolabial angle, upper lip E-line, lower lip E-line, and pg-pg', so that 20 profiles were created for each model. A visual analog scale (VAS) along with a question about surgical correction opinion was given to 18 orthodontists, 18 general dentists, and 18 laypersons to score (1-5) from least to most attractive. Spearman's rank correlation was computed to assess correlation, as well as ANOVA, followed by post hoc Tukey analysis to compare the mean scores, and Chi-square test to determine the opinion about surgical treatment. Results: There was an overall weak and negative correlation between the three groups, indicating that orthodontists attributed lower pleasantness scores to almost all the altered female and male facial profiles. Additionally, statistically significantly lower mean scores were attributed by orthodontists to many females and few male facial profiles. More orthodontists identified the need for surgical correction for a few severely distorted profiles but there was a statistically non-significant difference among the groups for most of the profiles. Conclusions: It was concluded that participants in the three groups had diverse concepts of facial attractiveness in all the parameters considered. Compared to general dentists and laypersons, orthodontists were much more precise, firmer, and meticulous in identifying a favorable or good-looking profile.

Methods The sample comprised 39 patients with anterior open bite treated with or without extractions, divided into two groups: The surgical group (G1) comprised 21 subjects (10 males, 11 females) with a mean initial age of 21.86 years (SD = 5.09), treated with fixed orthodontic appliance followed by orthognathic surgery, for a total mean period of 2.53 years (SD = 0.61). The mean overbite was −5.01 mm (SD = 2.50); The camouflaged group (G2) comprised 18 subjects (9 males, 9 females), with a mean initial age of 20.47 years (SD = 4.19), treated only with fixed orthodontic appliance, for a total mean period of 2.56 years (SD = 0.94). The mean overbite was −4.28 mm (SD = 1.15). Lateral photographs from pretreatment and posttreatment were used. Abstract:BACKGROUND: Patient satisfaction with facial appearance at the end of orthodontic camouflage treatment is very important, especially for skeletal malocclusion. This case report highlights the importance of the treatment plan for a patient initially treated with four-premolar-extraction camouflage, despite indications for orthognathic surgery.CASE SUMMARY: A 23-year-old male sought treatment complaining about his unsatisfactory facial appearance. His maxillary first premolars and mandibular second premolars had been extracted, and a fixed appliance had been used to retract his anterior teeth for two years without improvement. He had a convex profile, a gummy smile, lip incompetence, inadequate maxillary incisor inclination, and almost a class I molar relationship. Cephalometric analysis showed severe skeletal class II malocclusion (A point-nasion-B point = 11.5°) with a retrognathic mandible (sella-nasion-B point = 75.9°), a protruded maxilla (sella-nasion-A point = 87.4°), and vertical maxillary excess (upper incisor to palatal plane = 33.2 mm). The excessive lingual inclination of the maxillary incisors (upper incisor to nasion-A point line = -5.5°) was due to previous treatment attempts to compensate for the skeletal class II malocclusion. The patient was successfully retreated with decompensating orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery. The maxillary incisors were repositioned and proclined in the alveolar bone, the overjet was increased, and a space was created for orthognathic surgery, including maxillary impaction, anterior maxillary back-setting, and bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy to correct his skeletal anteroposterior discrepancy. Gingival display was reduced, and lip competence was restored. In addition, the results remained stable after 2 years. The patient was satisfied with his new profile as well as with the functional malocclusion at the end of treatment.CONCLUSION: This case report provides orthodontists a good example of how to treat an adult with severe skeletal class II malocclusion with vertical maxillary excess after an unsatisfactory orthodontic camouflage treatment. Orthodontic and orthognathic treatment can significantly correct a patient's facial appearance.

Abstract:Evaluating the effectiveness of orthognathic treatment can be difficult. To address this issue, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) have been proposed as valuable instruments for understanding the quality of healthcare from the patients' standpoint. Therefore, the aim of this project was to employ PROMs and PREMs questionnaires to capture the patients' perspectives regarding their experience during the orthognathic treatment process, as well as their perception of their postoperative state. Preoperative and postoperative questionnaires were offered to patients at consenting appointment and at various timepoints after the surgery. The assessment of statistical relationships was carried out by means of Fisher's exact test. A total of 64 preoperative and 126 postoperative responses were received. The primary motivators for pursuing the surgery were the improvement of facial and dental aesthetics, as well as increased satisfaction with photographic and video appearances. These three factors were also cited as the most important postoperative benefits. Of the respondents, 58% reported experiencing altered sensation to the lower lip at the 24-month follow up (p = 0.02); however, the affected patients reported that this did not have an impact on their daily activities. The use of PROMs and PREMs to appraise the quality of life constitutes a valuable method for surgeons to gauge their treatment efficacy. Above all, such tools are particularly useful for evaluating patient satisfaction, which is the ultimate objective of any treatment.
Evaluation of the Influence of Nasolabial Angle, Upper Sulcus Depth, and Nasal Tip Protrusion in the Perception of Facial Attractiveness

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the influence of variations in the upper sulcus depth, nasal tip protrusion, and nasolabial angle on the esthetic perception of profiles. Design: A web-based survey study and was conducted in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. This survey was conducted for a period of 10 months and included orthodontists practicing in India. Methods: This study included lateral cephalograms of the most esthetic profiles from a set of 30 profiles that were within Holdaways norms; the most esthetic profile was determined by a panel of two orthodontists and two general dentists. The most esthetic profile photograph will be transferred to a computer in Corel software. The outline of the profile will remain the same, with the inner aspect converted into a dark area (black); now, the profile is completely converted into facial silhouettes. This black facial silhouette is presented to avoid any distractions and bias. There will be a total of 27 silhouettes by various combinations of increased, decreased, and normal values for nasolabial angle, upper sulcus depth, and nasal tip protrusions. Results: Both the orthodontist and layman chose the most favored profile as a normal profile having a normal nasal tip, normal nasolabial angle, and normal upper sulcus depth, whereas among dentists, 50% chose the most favored profile in which the nasolabial angle was normal but the nasal tip and upper labial sulcus were decreased. When it comes to the least favored profiles, opinions varied between orthodontists, dentists, and laymen. Conclusion: The perception of facial esthetics has always been and still is varied between the layman, the dentist, and the orthodontists. Profiles with normal to sharp noses with normal and increased nasolabial angles were considered more attractive than the others. Profiles with fuller upper labial sulci were considered least attractive with other parameters changing.
Correlation between objective and subjective evaluation of profile in bimaxillary protrusion patients after orthodontic treatment.

Abstract:Objective: To correlate the objective cephalometric measurements with subjective facial esthetics in patients with bimaxillary protrusion. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 60 Asian-Chinese patients with bimaxillary protrusion who met the inclusion criteria. The facial esthetics of posttreatment profile and the change of profile on standardized lateral photographs were rated by a panel of 10 orthodontists and a panel of 10 lay persons with bimaxillary protrusion. All of the pretreatment and posttreatment cephalograms were digitized and traced. Twenty-five cephalometric measurements were constructed and analyzed. Correlations between the subjective facial esthetic scores and each cephalometric measurement were evaluated. Results: The cephalometric measurements correlated with the facial esthetic scores of posttreatment profile given by the orthodontist and the lay persons were basically the same. For the evaluation of posttreatment profile in bimaxillary protrusion patients, the upper and lower lip to E-line, upper and lower incisor tip to AP plane, Pg-NB distance, mentolabial angle, and sulcus depth correlated significantly with the esthetic score. For the evaluation of profile change during orthodontic treatment, retraction of upper incisor relative to AP plane or the perpendicular line through sella (line Y), change of upper incisor inclination, change of mentolabial sulcus depth, and retraction of lips relative to E-line were correlated positively with the esthetic value. Conclusions: Cephalometric measurements of lip position, incisor position, and chin morphology were key parameters correlated to facial esthetics.
A Prospective Investigation of Patient Satisfaction and Psychosocial Status Following Facial Bone Contouring Surgery using the Face-Q

Abstract:Objective: The objective of this study was to assess satisfaction and psychosocial status before and after facial bone contouring surgery using the Face-Q. Methods: The Face-Q, a multimodular patient-reported outcome (PRO) instrument, comprises independently functioning scales and checklists designed to assess outcomes in facial aesthetic patients. A prospective cohort study was conducted from November 2020 to May 2022. Participants undergoing facial bone contouring surgery (reduction mandibuloplasty and/or malarplasty) were asked to complete the Face-Q preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Comparative analyses were conducted using normative Face-Q data from 534 matched normal individuals. Face-Q scores were evaluated for each domain on a scale of 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction with appearance or a superior quality of life. Results: A total of 284 patients (274 female and 10 male) completed the Face-Q preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Of these, 146 underwent reduction mandibuloplasty, 18 underwent malarplasty, and 120 underwent both procedures. Post-surgery, patients experienced significant improvements in overall appearance, features altered by surgery, and quality of life, excluding the patient-perceived age. Preoperatively, patients demonstrated significantly lower scores compared to normative data, with scores significantly increasing postoperatively to levels representative of the general population. Satisfaction with outcome was significantly correlated with postoperative Face-Q measurements but not preoperatively. Conclusion: Facial bone contouring surgery significantly improves the satisfaction and quality of life in patients with square faces, reaching a level at least equivalent to the normative population. Evaluating the Long-Term Effects of Orthodontic Treatment on Facial Esthetics and Aging

Abstract:Background: Orthodontic treatment is known to significantly impact facial esthetics, but there is a lack of long-term studies examining its effects, particularly in conjunction with the natural aging process. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the enduring effects of orthodontic treatment on facial esthetics and aging over a 15-year period. Materials and methods: Three hundred orthodontic patients aged 12 to 25 at the start of treatment were included. Dental alignment, soft tissue transformations, skeletal changes, and patient-reported outcomes were measured objectively. Statistical analyses were conducted to compare pretreatment and post-treatment measurements. Results: Significant improvements were observed across various aspects following orthodontic treatment. Dental alignment showed a marked reduction in crowding, with an average decrease of 5.2 mm. Soft tissue transformations revealed notable advancements in lip positioning, averaging 3.8 mm, along with increased lip thickness. Skeletal changes were relatively modest, characterized by subtle alterations in chin positioning and mandibular angles. Patients reported high levels of satisfaction, reflected by an average score of 9.2 on the satisfaction scale. Despite treatment efficacy, the aging process continued to manifest natural changes in skin elasticity and fat distribution over the 15-year follow-up period. These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of orthodontic outcomes and highlight the importance of considering long-term effects on facial esthetics and aging. Conclusion: This longitudinal study provides valuable insights into the long-term effects of orthodontic treatment on facial esthetics and aging. It highlights significant improvements in dental alignment and soft tissue transformations, along with sustained patient satisfaction. However, modest skeletal changes and the ongoing aging process emphasize the need for managing patient expectations. These findings can guide practitioners and patients in making informed decisions regarding orthodontic interventions.
Evaluation of Change in the Facial Profile and Aesthetics in Relation to Incisor Position in Both Maxillary and Mandibular Arches

Abstract:Background The orthodontist is often confronted with the need to predict soft tissue profile changes that may result from the orthodontic treatment. The problem arises because the contribution of many of the factors influencing the soft tissue profile still needs to be fully understood. The complexity of the problem is increased in growing patients in whom the post-treatment soft tissue profile is the result of both growth and orthodontic treatment. A primary motivation for seeking orthodontic treatment is a desire to improve dental and facial aesthetics. To achieve balance in the facial profile treated orthodontically, it is essential to identify the underlying skeletal hard tissue and soft tissue parameters. The present study evaluated the changes in facial profile and aesthetics in relation to incisor position. Materials and methods Samples for this study consisted of pre-treatment lateral cephalograms of the Indian population (n = 450) having different incisor relationships. Subjects aged between 18 and 30 years were included. Angular and linear measurements were taken to analyse the incisor relationship with soft tissue parameters. Results The majority (61.2%) of subjects belonged to the age group of 18-30 years. The overall female-to-male ratio in the study was 7:3. The parameter U1 to L1 was abnormal in 86.8% of subjects. Similarly, the parameters S-line upper lip (UL), S-line lower lip (LL), E-line UL, and E-line LL were found abnormal in 93.9%, 86.8%, 82.6%, and 70.1% of subjects, respectively. A significant agreement was found between U1 to L1 and E-line UL and U1 to L1 and E-line LL. Conclusions The present study concludes that facial aesthetics combines soft and hard tissue corrections, not just based on occlusal relationships but also considering facial harmony. Thus, the incisor relationship is an important asset and strongly correlates with other soft tissue and hard tissue parameters that improve facial aesthetics for the individual undergoing orthodontic treatment.
A Perioral Soft Tissue evaluation after Orthognathic Surgery Using Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography Scan

Abstract:Background: Facial appearance is an important factor, affects social and psychological well-being. The ideal positioning of jaws and soft tissues is crucial during orthognathic surgery for a better outcome, but the response of facial soft tissues does not always reflect the exact movements of the underlying jaws in 1:1 ratio. So, soft tissue changes following orthognathic surgery require utmost attention during surgical correction to make successful treatment. Aims and Objectives: Evaluation of perioral soft tissue changes after orthognathic surgical procedures. The objectives of the study were to assess and compare pre and post-operative perioral soft tissue changes of lip width, nasolabial and mentolabial angle using Three Dimensional Computed Tomography scan (3DCT). Patient and Methods: The study involved ten patients for evaluation requiring orthognathic surgical procedures (maxillary or mandibular anteroposterior excess or deficiency, transverse deformities, vertical maxillary excess and facial asymmetry) presented to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery during 2014-2016. Pre and post-operative 3DCT scan were taken after 12 months using iCT 256 slice whole body CT scanner and evaluated for changes using Dicom PMS D view. Results: Significant changes were observed in nasolabial angle after maxillary advancement (1.81°) and maxillary setback procedure (2.73°). The mentolabial angle was significantly increased with mandibular setback procedures (3.27°). Mandibular advancement procedures showed both increase (3.6°) and decrease (7.6°) in mentolabial angle. Conclusion: 3DCT showed a significant difference in perioral soft tissue changes in nasolabial and mentolabial angle but no significant change was observed in lip width. 3DCT is a reliable tool for 3D assessment. The conventional thought of changes in Nasolabial angle after surgery is changing due to the underlying factors which should be considered for prediction.
Three-dimensional Assessment of Facial Soft Tissue after Orthognathic Surgery in Patients with Skeletal Class III and Asymmetry

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study was to perform three-dimensional (3D) assessment of facial soft tissue in patients with skeletal Class III and mandibular asymmetry after orthognathic surgery. Methods: Samples consisted of 3D facial images obtained from five patients with A point-nasion-B point angle less than 2 degrees, and more than 5 mm of menton deviation. All patients had been treated at Gangneung-Wonju National University Dental Hospital from 2009 to 2012. They had undergone orthognathic surgery of Lefort I, and sagittal split osteotomy for correction of skeletal deformity, and orthodontic treatment. Facial scanning was performed before treatment (T1) and post-surgical orthodontic treatment (T2). Linear and angle variables of soft tissue landmarks, antero-posterior facial depth, and facial volume were measured. Results: No significant differences in width of the alar base, mouth width, and nasal canting were observed between T1 and T2. However, lip deviation, menton deviation, alar canting, lip canting, and menton deviation angle were significantly reduced at T2. Antero-posterior facial depth on the axial plane parallel to the left cheilion was significantly reduced on the deviated side and significantly increased on the non-deviated side at T2. Volume of the lower lateral and lower medial parts of the face was reduced on the deviated side, and volume of upper lateral and lower lateral parts on the non-deviated side was significantly increased at T2. Conclusion: After orthognathic surgery, facial asymmetry of soft tissue was improved following skeletal changes, especially the mandibular region. Although the length of the alar base and mouth width did not change, lip and soft tissue menton were displaced to the medial side after treatment. Facial depth also became symmetric after treatment. Facial volume showed a decrease on the lower part of the deviated side and that on lateral parts of the non-deviated side showed an increase after treatment.
Effect of Class II functional treatment on facial attractiveness, as perceived by professionals and laypeople

Abstract:The literature offers different perspectives for and against two-phase treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion. Facial attractiveness is an important aspect to take into account, given that children with skeletal Class II are often bullied by their peers and have low self-esteem and a lower social perception. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the aesthetic perception of facial profiles by a large number of observers, before and after treatment with a functional appliance, compared to untreated controls. The pre- and post-treatment cephalograms of 20 Class II subjects treated with Sander's bite-jumping appliance and 20 untreated historical controls were collected and transformed into black and white silhouettes depicting only the lower third of the face. An online questionnaire comprising the silhouettes of the two groups, three "calibration" profiles and an "ideal" profile was submitted to dentists, orthodontists, undergraduates and laypeople, asking them to rate the profile's attractiveness using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The effect of treatment, and observers' age, expertise and gender were analysed. The calibration images and the ideal profiles were used to evaluate the coherence of each observer's judgement. The protocol was approved by the local Ethics Committee. Nine-hundred and ten questionnaires were collected. Treated subjects showed a larger improvement of facial attractiveness compared to controls. A significant effect of gender on the observer's ratings was observed. Some observers showed incoherent judgement, which had a significant effect on the regression model. In conclusion, early treatment with functional appliances seems to improve patients' facial aesthetics. This improvement is perceived equally by dental professionals and laypeople.
Appraising mandibular prognathism in class III malocclusion following orthognathic surgery: Patient-reported and cephalometry-based outcomes

Abstract:Patients with class III malocclusion often exhibit mandibular prognathism and complain of "prognathic appearance". The overall positive effects of orthognathic surgery on facial appearance have been demonstrated using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), but studies investigating the correlation between subjective PROMs results and objective measurements of imaging studies are sparse in the literature. This study recruited consecutive patients with skeletal class III malocclusion who underwent two-jaw orthognathic surgery between January 2016 and January 2021. The PROMs survey was conducted focusing on subjective perception of mandibular appearance. Lateral cephalometric images were measured to examine the correlation with the PROMs results. A total of 96 patients were eligible for this study. Of these, 74 patients (77.1%) reported complete correction of prognathic appearance postoperatively, whereas 22 patients (22.9%) perceived residual prognathic appearance. In a comparison of postoperative measurements between completely and incompletely satisfied patients, there were significant differences in SNB, ANB, convexity, facial angle, Nv-B, Nv-Pog, SN'B', soft tissue facial angle, lip-chin-throat angle, N'v-B', and N'v-Pog'. The PROM results were significantly associated with the objective measurements of imaging studies. Investigating the correlation between PROMs and objective measurements enables integration of patients' perception of the outcomes into future therapeutic strategy and surgical planning, contributing to the enhancement of patient satisfaction.
