Abstract:This paper is an exploration of the faithful transitive permutation representations of the orientation-preserving automorphisms groups of highly symmetric toroidal maps and hypermaps. The main theorems of this paper give a list of all possible degrees of these specific groups. This extends prior accomplishments of the authors, wherein their focus was confined to the study of the automorphisms groups of toroidal regular maps and hypermaps. In addition the authors bring out the recently developed {\sc GAP} package {\sc corefreesub} that can be used to find faithful transitive permutation representations of any group. With the aid of this powerful tool, the authors show how Schreier coset graphs of the automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps can be easily constructed.

Abstract:This is the second of two closely related papers on transversality. Here we introduce the notion of strong tangential transversality of two closed subsets of a Banach space which is a natural sufficient condition for tangential transversality. Some properties of uniform tangent sets are obtained. A new sum rule for the Clarke subdifferential is proven.

Abstract:The finite sharply $2$-transitive groups were classified by Zassenhaus in the 1930's. They essentially all look like the group of affine linear transformations $x\mapsto ax+b$ for some field (or at least near-field) $K$. However, the question remained open whether the same is true for infinite sharply $2$-transitive groups. There has been extensive work on the structures associated to such groups indicating that Zassenhaus' results might extend might extend to the infinite setting. For many specific classes of groups, like Lie groups, linear groups, or groups definable in o-minimal it was indeed proved that all examples inside the given class arise in this way as affine groups. However, it recently turned out that the reason for the lack of a general proof was the fact that there are plenty of sharply $2$-transitive groups which do not arise from fields or near-fields! In fact, it is not too hard to construct concrete examples (see below). In this note, we survey general sharply $n$-transitive groups and describe how to construct examples not arising from fields.

Abstract:Working constructively, we study continuous directed complete posets (dcpos) and the Scott topology. Our two primary novelties are a notion of intrinsic apartness and a notion of sharp elements. Being apart is a positive formulation of being unequal, similar to how inhabitedness is a positive formulation of nonemptiness. To exemplify sharpness, we note that a lower real is sharp if and only if it is located. Our first main result is that for a large class of continuous dcpos, the Bridges-Vîţǎ apartness topology and the Scott topology coincide. Although we cannot expect a tight or cotransitive apartness on nontrivial dcpos, we prove that the intrinsic apartness is both tight and cotransitive when restricted to the sharp elements of a continuous dcpo. These include the strongly maximal elements, as studied by Smyth and Heckmann. We develop the theory of strongly maximal elements highlighting its connection to sharpness and the Lawson topology. Finally, we illustrate the intrinsic apartness, sharpness and strong maximality by considering several natural examples of continuous dcpos: the Cantor and Baire domains, the partial Dedekind reals, the lower reals and finally, an embedding of Cantor space into an exponential of lifted sets.

Abstract:I introduced the notion of immediate transversality in a recent paper on $A_\infty$-structures on Morse complexes. I the present chapter, I prove that immediate transversality holds for every compact submanifold with $C^1$ conic singularities, not only in the setup of Morse Theory. This is an occasion of speaking of this type of singularities.

Abstract:Let $\text{Homeo}_{+}(\mathbb{S}^1)$ denote the group of orientation preserving homeomorphisms of the circle $\mathbb{S}^1$. A subgroup $G$ of $\text{Homeo}_{+}(\mathbb{S}^1)$ is tightly transitive if it is topologically transitive and no subgroup $H$ of $G$ with $[G: H]=\infty$ has this property; is almost minimal if it has at most countably many nontransitive points. In the paper, we determine all the topological conjugation classes of tightly transitive and almost minimal subgroups of $\text{Homeo}_{+}(\mathbb{S}^1)$ which are isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}^n$ for any integer $n\geq 2$.

Abstract:Planar nearrings play an important role in nearring theory, both from the structural side as being close to generalised nearfields, as well as from an applications perspective, in geometry and designs. We investigate the distributive elements of planar nearrings. If a planar nearring has nonzero distributive elements, then it is an extension of its zero multiplier part by an abelian group. In the case that there are distributive elements that are not zero multipliers, then this extension splits, giving an explicit description of the nearring. This generalises the structure of planar rings. We provide a family of examples where this does not occur, the distributive elements being precisely the zero multipliers. We apply this knowledge to the question of determining the generalized center of planar nearrings as well as finding new proofs of other older results.

Abstract:The construction and classification of super-modular categories is an ongoing project, of interest in algebra, topology and physics. In a recent paper, Cho, Kim, Seo and You produced two mysterious families of super-modular data, with no known realization. We show that these data are realized by modifying the Drinfeld centers of near-group fusion categories associated with the groups $\mathbb Z/6$ and $\mathbb Z/2\times \mathbb Z/4$. The methods we develop have wider applications and we describe some of these, with a view towards understanding when near-group centers provide super-modular categories.

Abstract:We prove that in the space of $C^r$ maps $(r=2,\ldots,\infty,\omega)$ of a smooth manifold of dimension at least 4 there exist open regions where maps with infinitely many corank-2 homoclinic tangencies of all orders are dense. The result is applied to show the existence of maps with universal two-dimensional dynamics, i.e. maps whose iterations approximate the dynamics of every map of a two-dimensional disk with an arbitrarily good accuracy. We show that maps with universal two-dimensional dynamics are $C^r$-generic in the regions under consideration.

Abstract:We introduce the class of network right $*$-abundant semigroups. These are based on networks that extend the notion of a directed graph. This class properly contains the class of graph inverse semigroups. We investigate the structure of network right $*$-abundant semigroups. We show that two network right $*$-abundant semigroups are isomorphic if and only if the underlying networks are isomorphic.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a locally symmetric variety, i.e., the quotient of a bounded symmetric domain by a (say) neat arithmetically-defined group of isometries. Let ${\overline X}^{\rm exc}$ and $X^{{\rm tor,exc}}$ denote its excentric Borel-Serre and toroidal compactifications respectively. We determine their least common modification and use it to prove a conjecture of Goresky and Tai concerning canonical extensions of homogeneous vector bundles. In the process, we see that ${\overline X}^{\rm exc}$ and $X^{{\rm tor,exc}}$ are homotopy equivalent.

Abstract:We investigate a version of the Green correspondence for categories of complexes, including homotopy categories and derived categories. The correspondence is an equivalence between a category defined over a finite group $G$ and the same for a subgroup $H$, often the normalizer of a $p$-subgroup of $G$. We present a basic formula for deciding when categories of modules or complexes have a Green correspondence and apply it to many examples. In several cases the equivalence is an equivalence of triangulated categories, and in special cases it is an equivalence of tensor triangulated categories.

Abstract:When N is a left nearring with identity satisfying the descending chain condition on right ideals N can be written as a direct sum of nonzero right ideals that cannot be further decomposed into direct sums of nonzero right ideals. If N is a ring the nature of this decomposition is well understood. A nearring module of N possessing a unique proper nonzero N -subgroup is called a 2-step module. Here we initiate the study of the nature of the previously described decompositions when N is not a ring by considering the situation where N has a faithful 2-step module.

Abstract:In this paper, separation axioms of topological rough groups are discussed. Two examples are constructed to show that there exist Hausdorff topological rough groups such that they have no regular separation. This answers an open question posed in (Lin et al. in Soft Comput 25: 3441-3453, 2020). We also consider regularity of a strongly topological rough group.

Abstract:For an ascending correspondence $F:X\to 2^X$ with chain-complete values on a complete lattice $X$, we prove that the set of fixed points is a complete lattice. This strengthens Zhou's fixed point theorem. For chain-complete posets that are not necessarily lattices, we generalize the Abian-Brown and the Markowsky fixed point theorems from single-valued maps to multivalued correspondences. We provide an application in game theory.

Abstract:In this paper, three infinite families of locally 2-arc transitive graphs are constructed, which are vertex-intransitive, regular and all vertex stabilizers are conjugate. To the best of our knowledge these are the first infinite families of graphs with these properties. In particular, they are semi-symmetric. It is then shown that the only locally 2-arc transitive graphs admitting a Ree simple group are (i) the graphs in these three families, (ii) (vertex-transitive) 2-arc transitive graphs admitting a Ree simple group, previously classified by the first and third authors, and (iii) standard double covers of the graphs in (ii). This is the first complete classification of locally 2-arc transitive graphs for an infinite family of simple groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the world of near-vector spaces allows us to work with non-linear problems and yet, gives access to most of the tools linear algebra has to offer. We establish some fundamental results for near-vector spaces toward extending classical linear algebra to near-linear algebra. In the present paper, we finalize the algebraic proof that any non-empty $F$-subspace stable under addition and scalar multiplication is an $F$-subspace. We demonstrate that any quotient of a near-vector space by an $F$-subspace is a near-vector space and the First Isomorphism Theorem for near-vector spaces. In doing this, we obtain fundamental descriptions of the span. Defining linear independence outside the quasi-kernel, we prove that near-vector spaces are characterized in terms of the existence of a scalar basis, and we obtain a new important notion of basis.
