Abstract:We characterize a nonlinear full invariant of compact Banach-space maps: Let ( X , ‖.‖) and ( Y , ‖.‖) be two Banach spaces and P C ( X , Y ) be all compact maps which map ( X , ‖.‖) to ( Y , ‖.‖). Then each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P c ( X , Y ) is also uniform-topology subseries-convergent iff each bounded map from ( X , ‖.‖) to ( l 1 , ‖.‖ 1 ) is a compact map. The necessary condition for each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P C ( X , Y ) to be also uniform-topology subseries-convergent is that ( X , ‖.‖) and ( X ′, ‖.‖) both contain no copy of c 0 . This necessary condition is not sufficient.

Abstract:We study the existence problems of fixed points and the topological structure of fixed point sets for nonexpansive set-valued maps in Banach space. We establish some porosity results on the existence of fixed points and the topological structure of fixed point sets for nonexpansive set-valued maps with values in an admissible family. The results obtained in the present paper cover and improve the corresponding ones due to De Blasi and Myjak (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I Math. 308:51–54, 1989) and De Blasi et al. (Set-Valued Anal. 17:97–112, 2009).

Abstract:In the nonlinear geometry of Banach spaces where the objects in the category are Banach spaces as in the linear case, the morphisms in the new setting are taken to comprise of certain nonlinear maps involving say, Lipschitz maps and, in some cases, uniformly continuous, coarse or coarse Lipschitz mappings arising from the underlying metric or the uniform structure attached to the norm of the Banach space. The question as to what extent the Lipschitz or the uniform structure may be used to capture the full linear structure of a Banach space has been one of the most fundamental problems pertaining to the nonlinear structure of Banach spaces since this line of investigation was undertaken by Lindenstrauss in the late sixties. This line of research which is subsumed under the so called Ribe program broadly underscores the view that metric spaces encode a much deeper and hidden structure than is apparent. It is truly surprising how the linear structure of a Banach space gets captured to a considerable extent by its metric space structure. This point of view has led to deep insights into Banach space theory that has paved the way for these ideas being employed in seemingly unrelated disciplines including harmonic analysis, geometric group theory and many other domains of mathematics.

Abstract:A classic problem in analysis is to solve nonlinear equations of the form \begin{equation*} F(x)=0, \end{equation*} where $F:D^n\to \mathbb{R}^m$ is a continuous map of the closed unit disk $D^n\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ in $\mathbb{R}^m$. A topological technique, which exists in the literature, for the existence of solutions of nonlinear equations is the topological degree theory. In this work, we will use the category of a map theory to solve the problem of existence of solutions of nonlinear equations. This theory, as we will show in this work, provides an alternative topological technique to study nonlinear equations.

Abstract:In his work on the foundations of geometry, Hilbert observed that a formula which appeared in works by Beltrami, Cayley, and Klein, gives rise to a complete metric on any bounded convex domain. Some decades later, Garrett Birkhoff and Hans Samelson noted that this metric has interesting applications, when considering certain maps of convex cones that contract the metric. Such situations have since arisen in many contexts, pure and applied, and could be called nonlinear Perron-Frobenius theory. This note centers around one dynamical aspect of this theory.

On the small scale nonlinear theory of operator spaces

Abstract:We initiate the study of the small scale geometry of operator spaces. The authors have previously shown that a map between operator spaces which is completely coarse (that is, the sequence of its amplifications is equi-coarse) must be $\mathbb R$-linear. We obtain a generalization of the aforementioned result to completely coarse maps defined on the unit ball of an operator space. By relaxing the condition to a small scale one, we prove that there are many non-linear examples of maps which are completely Lipshitz in small scale. We define a geometric parameter for homogeneous Hilbertian operator spaces which imposes restrictions on the existence of such maps.

Abstract:We define the concept of stronger forms of positively expansive map and name it as $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps. Here $\mathscr{F}$ is a family of subsets of $\mathbb{N}$. Examples of positively thick expansive and positively syndetic expansive maps are constructed here. Also, we obtain conditions under which a positively expansive map is positively co--finite expansive and positively syndetic expansive maps. Further, we study several properties of $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps. A characterization of $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps in terms of $p \:\mathscr{F}^*-$generator is obtained. Here $p \:\mathscr{F}^*$ is dual of $\mathscr{F}$. Considering $(\mathbb{Z},+)$ as a semigroup, we study $\mathscr{F}-$expansive homeomorphism, where $\mathscr{F}$ is a family of subsets of $\mathbb{Z} \setminus \{0\}$. We show that there does not exists an expansive homeomorphism on a compact metric space which is $\mathscr{F}_s-$expansive. Also, we study relation between $\mathscr{F}-$expansivity of $f$ and the shift map $\sigma_f$ on the inverse limit space.

Abstract:We study the extremality of nonexpansive mappings on a nonempty bounded closed and convex subset of a normed space (therein specific Banach spaces). We show that surjective isometries are extremal in this sense for many Banach spaces, including Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodym property and all $C(K)$-spaces for compact Hausdorff $K$. We also conclude that the typical, in the sense of Baire category, nonexpansive mapping is close to being extremal.

Abstract:If a real analytic nonexpansive map on a polyhedral normed space has a nonempty fixed point set, then we show that there is an isometry from an affine subspace onto the fixed point set. As a corollary, we prove that for any real analytic 1-norm or $\infty$-norm nonexpansive map on $\mathbb{R}^n$, there is a positive integer $q$ such that the period of any periodic orbit divides $q$ and $q$ is the order, or twice the order, of a permutation on $n$ letters. This confirms Nussbaum's $2^n$ Conjecture for $\infty$-norm nonexpansive maps in the special case where the maps are also real analytic.

Non-linear resolvents of holomorphically accretive mappings

Abstract:In this paper, we present new results on holomorphically accretive mappings and their resolvents defined on the open unit ball of a complex Banach space. We employ a unified approach to examine various properties of non-linear resolvents by applying a distortion theorem we have established. This method enables us to prove a covering result and to establish the accretivity of resolvents along with estimates of the squeezing ratio. Furthermore, we prove that under certain mild conditions, a non-linear resolvent is a starlike mapping of a specified order. As a key tool, we first introduce a refined version of the inverse function theorem for mappings satisfying so-called one-sided estimates.

Abstract:In this article, we study the properties of a class of functional spaces which arise from the investigation of nonlinear differential equations. We establish some integral inequalities then by applying these inequalities, we prove some lemmas and theorems, which indicate the relation of these spaces (pn-spaces) with the Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces in the case when pn-spaces with constant and variable exponents.

Abstract:In our previous work, we have constructed explicit smooth real algebraic functions which may have both compact and non-compact preimages on smooth real algebraic manifolds. This paper presents its variant. Our result is new in obtaining non-proper smooth real algebraic functions on smooth real algebraic manifolds satisfying explicit conditions on (non-)compactness of preimages whereas previously the manifolds are only semi-algebraic. Explicitly, this mainly contributes to two different regions of mathematics. One is singularity theory of differentiable maps and applications to differential topology. More precisely, construction of nice smooth maps with desired preimages. The other is real algebraic geometry. More precisely, explicit construction of smooth real algebraic functions and maps whereas we can know the existence and consider approximations of smooth maps by maps of such classes in considerable cases.

Abstract:We study the smoothness of the topological equivalence between a linear equation and its nonlinear perturbation, which is regarded as unbounded. To the best of our knowledge, it has not previously been considered such study in the literature. Therefore, the main result of this work copes with this lack, that is, it is shown, on the positive half line, that such topological equivalence is of class $C^r (r \geq 1)$ when the linear part is a uniform contraction and the nonlinearities considered are unbounded.

Abstract:We study several classes of general non-linear positive maps between C*-algebras, which are not necessary completely positive maps. We characterize the class of the compositions of *-multiplicative maps and positive linear mapsas the class of non-linear maps of boundedly positive type abstractly. We consider three classes of non-linear positive maps defined only on the positive cones, which are the classes of being monotone, supercongruent or concave. Any concave maps are monotone. The intersection of the monotone maps and the supercongruent maps characterizes the class of monotone Borel functional calculus. We give many examples of non-linear positive maps, which show that there exist no other relations among these three classes in general.

Abstract:Generalizing a recent result on lineability of sets of non-injective linear operators, we prove, for quite general linear spaces $A$ of maps from an arbitraty set to a sequence space, that, for every $0 \neq f \in A$, the subset of $A$ of non-injective maps contains an infinite dimensional subspace of $A$ containing $f$. We provide aplications of the main result to spaces of linear operators between quasi-Banach spaces, to spaces of linear operators belonging to an operator ideal, and, in the nonlinear setting, to linear spaces of homogeneous polynomials and to linear spaces of vector-valued Lispshitz functions on metric spaces.
