Abstract:In this article we consider several forms of expansivity. We introduce two new definitions related with topological dimension. We study the topology of local stable sets under cw-expansive surface homeomorphisms and expansive homeomorphisms of three-manifolds. The problem of $C^r$-stable expansivity is also considered.

Abstract:We call a partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism partially volume expanding if the Jacobian restricted to any hyperplane that contains the unstable bundle E^u is larger than 1. This is a C^1 open property. We show that any C^1+ partially volume expanding diffeomorphisms admits finitely many physical measures, and the union of their basins has full volume.

Abstract:In this paper, we study transitivity of partially hyperbolic endomorphisms of the two torus whose action in the first homology group has two integer eigenvalues of moduli greater than one. We prove that if the Jacobian is everywhere greater than the modulus of the largest eigenvalue, then the map is robustly transitive. For this, we introduce Blichfedt's theorem as a tool for extracting dynamical information from the action of a map in homology. We also treat the case of specially partially hyperbolic endomorphisms, for which we obtain a complete dichotomy: either the map is transitive and conjugated to its linear part, or its unstable foliation must contain an annulus which may either be wandering or periodic.

On Stronger Forms of Expansivity

Abstract:We define the concept of stronger forms of positively expansive map and name it as $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps. Here $\mathscr{F}$ is a family of subsets of $\mathbb{N}$. Examples of positively thick expansive and positively syndetic expansive maps are constructed here. Also, we obtain conditions under which a positively expansive map is positively co--finite expansive and positively syndetic expansive maps. Further, we study several properties of $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps. A characterization of $p \:\mathscr{F}-$expansive maps in terms of $p \:\mathscr{F}^*-$generator is obtained. Here $p \:\mathscr{F}^*$ is dual of $\mathscr{F}$. Considering $(\mathbb{Z},+)$ as a semigroup, we study $\mathscr{F}-$expansive homeomorphism, where $\mathscr{F}$ is a family of subsets of $\mathbb{Z} \setminus \{0\}$. We show that there does not exists an expansive homeomorphism on a compact metric space which is $\mathscr{F}_s-$expansive. Also, we study relation between $\mathscr{F}-$expansivity of $f$ and the shift map $\sigma_f$ on the inverse limit space.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of expanding topological space. We define the topological expansion of a topological space via local multi-homeomorphism over coproduct topology, and we prove that the coproduct family associated to any fractal family of topological spaces is expanding. In particular, we prove that the more a topological space expands, the finer the topology of its indexed states is. Using multi-homeomorphisms over associated coproduct topological spaces, we define a locally expandable topological space and we prove that a locally expandable topological space has a topological expansion. Specifically, we prove that the expanding fractal manifold is locally expandable and has a natural topological expansion.
Continuum-wise hyperbolic homeomorphisms on surfaces

Abstract:This paper discusses the dynamics of continuum-wise hyperbolic surface homeomorphisms. We prove that $cw_F$-hyperbolic surface homeomorphisms containing only a finite set of spines are $cw_2$-hyperbolic. In the case of $cw_3$-hyperbolic homeomorphisms we prove the finiteness of spines and, hence, that $cw_3$-hyperbolicity implies $cw_2$-hyperbolicity. In the proof, we adapt techniques of Hiraide [11] and Lewowicz [15] in the case of expansive surface homeomorphisms to prove that local stable/unstable continua of $cw_F$-hyperbolic homeomorphisms are continuous arcs. We also adapt techniques of Artigue, Pacífico and Vieitez [6] in the case of N-expansive surface homeomorphisms to prove that the existence of spines is strongly related to the existence of bi-asymptotic sectors and conclude that spines are necessarily isolated from other spines.

Abstract:In this paper we study kinematic expansive flows on compact metric spaces, surfaces and general manifolds. Different variations of the definition are considered and its relationship with expansiveness in the sense of Bowen-Walters and Komuro is analyzed. We consider continuous and smooth flows and robust kinematic expansiveness of vector fields is considered on smooth manifolds.

Abstract:We introduce first-time sensitivity for a homeomorphism of a compact metric space, that is a condition on the first increasing times of open balls of the space. Continuum-wise expansive homeomorphisms, the shift map on the Hilbert cube, and also some partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms satisfy this condition. We prove the existence of local unstable continua satisfying similar properties with the local unstable continua of cw-expansive homeomorphisms, but assuming first-time sensitivity. As a consequence we prove that first-time sensitivity (with some additional technical assumptions) implies positive topological entropy.

Abstract:A Riemannian manifold is a called a good rational expander in dimension $i$ if every $i$-cycle bounds a rational $i+1$-chain of comparatively small volume. We construct 3-manifolds which are good expanders in all dimensions. On the other hand, we show that expanders must be topologically complicated: they must have lots of torsion homology. We also give some applications to topological overlap problems, constructing examples of 3-manifolds with large width over $\mathbb R^2$.

Abstract:We discuss different regularities on stable/unstable holonomies of cw-hyperbolic homeomorphisms and prove that if a cw-hyperbolic homeomorphism has continuous joint stable/unstable holonomies, then it has a dense set of periodic points in its non-wandering set. For that, we prove that the hyperbolic cw-metric (introduced in [9]) can be adapted to be self-similar (as in [6]) and, in this case, continuous joint stable/unstable holonomies are pseudo-isometric. We also prove transitivity of cw-hyperbolic homeomorphisms assuming that the stable/unstable holonomies are isometric. In the case the ambient space is a surface, we prove that a cw$_F$-hyperbolic homeomorphism has continuous joint stable/unstable holonomies when every bi-asymptotic sector is regular.

Abstract:Assume that $f$ is a $C^r(r\geq 2)$ specially absolutely partial hyperbolic endomorphism on the 2-torus which is homotopic to an expanding linear endomorphism $A$ with irrational real eigenvalues $|\lambda^u_A|>|\lambda^c_A|>1$. If $f$ expands area, then the semi-conjugacy $h$ between $f$ and $A$ is the conjugacy, and the conjugacy is $C^1$ along the center foliation. Furthermore, if $f$ not only expands area but also has the $C^1$ center bundle, then the conjugacy is smooth.

Generalized Hyperbolicity, Stability and Expansivity for Operators on Locally Convex Spaces

Abstract:We introduce and study the notions of (generalized) hyperbolicity, topological stability and (uniform) topological expansivity for operators on locally convex spaces. We prove that every generalized hyperbolic operator on a locally convex space has the finite shadowing property. Contrary to what happens in the Banach space setting, hyperbolic operators on Fréchet spaces may fail to have the shadowing property, but we find additional conditions that ensure the validity of the shadowing property. Assuming that the space is sequentially complete, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies the strict periodic shadowing property, but we also show that the hypothesis of sequential completeness is essential. We show that operators with the periodic shadowing property on topological vector spaces have other interesting dynamical behaviors, including the fact that the restriction of such an operator to its chain recurrent set is topologically mixing and Devaney chaotic. We prove that topologically stable operators on locally convex spaces have the finite shadowing property and the strict periodic shadowing property. As a consequence, topologically stable operators on Banach spaces have the shadowing property. Moreover, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies topological stability for operators on Banach spaces. We prove that uniformly topologically expansive operators on locally convex spaces are neither Li-Yorke chaotic nor topologically transitive. Finally, we characterize the notion of topological expansivity for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces. Several examples are provided.

Abstract:We quantify the topological expansion properties of bounded degree simplicial complexes in terms of a family of sublinear functions, in analogy with the separation profile of Benjamini-Schramm-Timár for classical expansion of bounded degree graphs. We prove that, like the separation profile, these new invariants are monotone under regular maps between complexes satisfying appropriate higher connectivity assumptions. In the dimension $1$ case, we recover the cutwidth profile of Huang-Hume-Kelly-Lam. We also prove the seemingly new result that any $1$-dimensional topological expander necessarily contains a graphical expander. In higher dimensions, we give full calculations of these new invariants for Euclidean spaces, which are natural analogues of waist and width-volume inequalities due to Gromov and Guth respectively. We present several other methods of obtaining upper bounds including naïve (yet useful) direct product and fibring theorems, and show how lower bounds can be obtained via thick embeddings of complexes, in analogy with previous work of Barrett-Hume. Using this, we find lower bounds for $k$-expansion of $(k+1)$-fold horocyclic products of trees, and for rank $k$ symmetric spaces of non-compact type. As a further application, we prove that for every $k\geq 2$ there is no coarse embedding (and more generally, no regular map) from the $k$-fold horocyclic product of $3$-regular trees to either any product $(\mathbb{H}^2)^{k-2}\times H \times D$ where $\mathbb{H}^2$ is the real hyperbolic plane, $H$ is a bounded degree hyperbolic graph and $D$ is a doubling metric space, or to any symmetric space whose non-compact factor has corank (dimension minus rank) is strictly less than $k$.

On Multi-Split Continuity and Split Homeomorphisms

Abstract:We introduce multi-split continuous functions between topological spaces, a weaker form of continuity that generalizes split continuity while being stable under compositions. We will define the associated star multifunction and pre-multi-split multifunctions. Moreover, we will prove that multi-split continuity naturally emerges as the continuity property of selections of finite usco maps, relating their study to set-valued analysis. Finally, we introduce split homeomorphisms and split homeomorphic spaces, showing that for compact, regular Hausdorff spaces, split homeomorphisms characterize deformations with cuts and subsequent re-glues.

High dimensional expanders and coset geometries

Abstract:High dimensional expanders is a vibrant emerging field of study. Nevertheless, the only known construction of bounded degree high dimensional expanders is based on Ramanujan complexes, whereas one dimensional bounded degree expanders are abundant. In this work, we construct new families of bounded degree high dimensional expanders obeying the local spectral expansion property. This property has a number of important consequences, including geometric overlapping, fast mixing of high dimensional random walks, agreement testing and agreement expansion. Our construction also yields new families of expander graphs which are close to the Ramanujan bound, i.e., their spectral gap is close to optimal. The construction is quite elementary and it is presented in a self contained manner; This is in contrary to the highly involved previously known construction of the Ramanujan complexes. The construction is also very symmetric (such symmetry properties are not known for Ramanujan complexes) ; The symmetry of the construction could be used, for example, in order to obtain good symmetric LDPC codes that were previously based on Ramanujan graphs. The main tool that we use for is the theory of coset geometries. Coset geometries arose as a tool for studying finite simple groups. Here, we show that coset geometries arise in a very natural manner for groups of elementary matrices over any finitely generated algebra over a commutative unital ring. In other words, we show that such groups act simply transitively on the top dimensional face of a pure, partite, clique complex.

Abstract:We introduce continuum-wise hyperbolicity, a generalization of hyperbolicity with respect to the continuum theory. We discuss similarities and differences between topological hyperbolicity and continuum-wise hyperbolicity. A shadowing lemma for cw-hyperbolic homeomorphisms is proved in the form of the L-shadowing property and a Spectral Decomposition is obtained in this scenario. In the proof we generalize the construction of Fathi [16] of a hyperbolic metric using only cw-expansivity, obtaining a hyperbolic cw-metric. We also introduce cwN-hyperbolicity, exhibit examples of these systems for arbitrarily large N ∈ N and obtain further dynamical properties of these systems such as finiteness of periodic points with the same period. We prove that homeomorphisms of S 2 that are induced by topologically hyperbolic homeomorphisms of T 2 are continuum-wise-hyperbolic and topologically conjugate to linear cw-Anosov diffeomorphisms of S 2 , being in particular cw2-hyperbolic.

We prove that non atomic invariant ergodic measures with all of its Lyapunov exponents positive is positively measure-expansive. Abstract:We introduce distinct definitions of local stable/unstable sets for flows without fixed points, namely, kinematic, geometric, and sectionally geometric, and discuss relations between them. We prove the existence of continua with a uniform diameter within each sectionally geometric local stable/unstable set for cw-expansive flows defined on Peano continua.
