Abstract:Quark-model nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions by the Kyoto- Niigata group are applied to the hypertriton calculation in a new three-cluster Faddeev formalism using the two-cluster resonating-group method kernels. The most recent model, fss2, gives a reasonable result similar to the Nijmegen soft-core model NSC89, except for an appreciable contributions of higher partial waves.

Abstract:Faddeev calculations of hypertriton ($_\Lambda^3$H) separation energy are performed, incorporating all next-to-next-to-leading-order $\Lambda$NN three-body forces (3BFs) in chiral effective field theory: $2\pi$-exchange, $1\pi$-exchange, and contact interactions. The $1\pi$-exchange and contact interactions are rewritten in a form suitable for evaluating partial-wave matrix elements. The $\Lambda$-deuteron folding potentials constructed from these 3BFs are evaluated to demonstrate their contributions to \h3t. The $1\pi$-exchange interaction provides an attractive effect in which the d-state component of the deuteron wave function plays an important role. The attractive contribution tends to cancel the repulsive ones from the $2\pi$-exchange and contact 3BFs. Faddeev calculations show that the net effect of the 3BFs to the \h3t separation energy is small in a range between $-5$ to $+20$ keV, depending on the NN interaction used. Although these results are based on speculative low-energy constants, they can serve as a reference for further investigations.

Abstract:The finite-amplitude method is a feasible numerical approach to large scale random phase approximation calculations. It avoids the storage and calculation of residual interaction elements as well as the diagonalization of the RPA matrix, which will be prohibitive when the configuration space is huge. In this work we finished the implementation of a finite-amplitude method in a relativistic meson exchange mean field model with axial symmetry. The direct variation approach makes our FAM scheme capable of being extended to the multipole excitation case.

Abstract:We extend the chiral hadronic model (FST) with an inclusion of Λ hyperon to investigate the properties of multi-Λ hypernuclei. With such an effective hadronic model in the relativistic mean-field approximation, we accomplish the calculations with both the conventional strong Λ–Λ interaction and the weak Λ–Λ interaction determined from recent experiment. Our calculations indicate that not only the strong but also the weak Λ–Λ interaction provide tighter binding for multi-Λ hypernuclei than the ones with only nucleons. However the strong interaction generates a binding slightly tighter than the weak interaction.

Abstract:The effective A-nucleon interaction in single A hypernuclei is studied using the Relativistic Mean Field theory. Five sets of hyperon-meson coupling parameters, for Lambda - sigma and Lambda - omega interactions, are obtained by fitting the recent data of the binding energy of a Lambda in the 1s state of C-13(Lambda), B-Lambda(1s1/2). The detailed method is to fix one of the parameters to be a special value such as 2/3 or 1 or to suppose two of them be equal, and then the parameter sets are deduced. With these parameter sets determined from only this experimental quantity,we calculate the single-particle spectra of Lambda in single-Lambda hypernuclei for a wide range of mass number from A = 9 to A = 208. The calculations reproduce the available data well.

Abstract:Within the framework of the Faddeev formalism in configuration space, we investigate bound states in the φNN system with total isospin T=0 and T=1 . The recently proposed lattice HAL QCD φN potential in the S43/2 channel does not support either φN or φNN bound states. The HAL QCD φN potential in the S21/2 channel suggests the bound states for φN and φNN(S=0) systems. However, the binding energies are highly sensitive to variations of the enhancement factor β , and the φNN system is extremely strongly bound in the state S=0 . Considering a spin-averaged potential for the state S=1 yields a bound state for the Hφ3 ( S=1 ) hypernucleus with the binding energy (BE) 14.9 MeV when β=6.9 . The evaluation of the BE for the S=1 , T=1 three-body state results in 5.47 MeV. Additionally, calculations using our approach confirm the bound states for the φNN ( S=2 , T=0 and S=1 , T=1 ) system previously predicted with the Yukawa-type potential motivated by the QCD van der Waals attractive force, mediated by multigluon exchanges. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.110.L031502 © 2024 American Physical Society

Ab initio calculation of hyper-neutron matter

Abstract:The equation of state (EoS) of neutron matter plays a decisive role in our understanding of the properties of neutron stars as well as the generation of gravitational waves in neutron star mergers. At sufficient densities, it is known that the appearance of hyperons generally softens the EoS, thus leading to a reduction in the maximum mass of neutron stars well below the observed values of about 2 solar masses. Even though repulsive three-body forces are known to solve this so-called "hyperon puzzle", so far performing \textit{ab initio} calculations with a substantial number of hyperons has remained elusive. In this work, we address this challenge by employing simulations based on Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory with up to 232 neutrons (pure neutron matter) and up to 116 $\Lambda$ hyperons (hyper-neutron matter) in a finite volume. We introduce a novel auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, allowing us to simulate for both pure neutron matter and hyper-neutron matter systems up to 5 times the density of nuclear matter using a single auxiliary field without any sign oscillations. Also, for the first time in {\em ab initio} calculations, we not only include $N\Lambda$ two-body and $NN\Lambda$ three-body forces, but also $\Lambda\Lambda$ and $N \Lambda\Lambda$ interactions. Consequently, we determine essential astrophysical quantities such as the mass-radius relation, the speed of sound and the tidal deformability of neutron stars. Our findings also confirm the existence of the $I$-Love-$Q$ relation, which gives access to the moment of inertia of the neutron star.

Hyperon-Nucleon Interaction Constrained by Light Hypernuclei

Abstract:Ab initio structure calculations for p-shell hypernuclei have recently become accessible through extensions of nuclear many-body methods, such as the no-core shell model, in combination with hyperon-nucleon interactions from chiral effective field theory. However, the low-energy constants in these hyperon-nucleon interactions are poorly constraint due to the very limited amount of experimental scattering data available. We present a hyperon-nucleon interaction that is additionally constrained by experimental ground-state and spectroscopic data for selected p-shell hypernuclei and, thus, optimized for hypernuclear structure calculations. We show that the previous overestimation of the hyperon separation energies in the p-shell is remedied and discuss the significantly improved description of the $_\Lambda$He isotopic chain. We further discuss the uncertainty quantification for hypernuclear observables on the many-body level, obtained through a novel machine-learning tool.

Tritium $β$-decay and Proton-Proton Fusion in Pionless Effective Field Theory

Abstract:The Gamow-Teller and Fermi matrix elements, ${\left<\mathbf{GT}\right>}$ and ${\left<\mathbf{F}\right>}$, respectively, for tritium $\beta$-decay are calculated to next-to-leading order (NLO) in pionless effective field theory in the absence of Coulomb and isospin violation giving the leading order predictions ${\left<\mathbf{GT}\right>}_{0}=0.9807$ and ${\left<\mathbf{F}\right>}_{0}=1$. Using an experimentally determined value for the tritium-$\beta$ decay GT matrix element, the two-body axial current low energy constant is fixed at NLO yielding $L_{1,A}=6.01\pm2.08$ fm$^{3}$ at the renormalization scale of the physical pion mass, which agrees with predictions based on naive dimensional analysis. Finally, the consequences of Wigner-SU(4) spin-isospin symmetry are considered for the Gamow-Teller matrix element.

Pionic Final State Interactions and the Hypertriton Lifetime

Abstract:We analyze the contribution of pionic final state interactions (FSI) in the weak decay of the hypertriton. Focusing on the $^3$He channel, we find a contribution of the pionic FSI of the order of $18\%$. Assuming a fixed value for the branching ratio $R_3$ for the decay width into $^3$He over the decay width into $^3$He and $pd$ final states, we find values for the hypertriton lifetime that are consistent with the world average as well as recent measurements by the ALICE Collaboration.

Abstract:Using the SU6 quark-model baryon-baryon interaction recently developed by the Kyoto-Niigata group, we calculate NN, Lambda N and Sigma N G-matrices in ordinary nuclear matter. This is the first attempt to discuss the Lambda and Sigma single-particle potentials in nuclear medium, based on the realistic quark-model potential. The Lambda potential has the depth of more than 40 MeV, which is more attractive than the value expected from the experimental data of Lambda-hypernuclei. The Sigma potential turns out to be repulsive, the origin of which is traced back to the strong Pauli repulsion in the Sigma N (I=3/2) ^3S_1 state.
Towards Hypernuclei from Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory

Abstract:Understanding the strong interactions within baryonic systems beyond the up and down quark sector is pivotal for a comprehensive description of nuclear forces. This study explores the interactions involving hyperons, particularly the $\Lambda$ particle, within the framework of nuclear lattice effective field theory (NLEFT). By incorporating $\Lambda$ hyperons into the NLEFT framework, we extend our investigation into the $S = -1$ sector, allowing us to probe the third dimension of the nuclear chart. We calculate the $\Lambda$ separation energies ($B_{\Lambda}$) of hypernuclei up to the medium-mass region, providing valuable insights into hyperon-nucleon ($YN$) and hyperon-nucleon-nucleon ($YNN$) interactions. Our calculations employ high-fidelity chiral interactions at N${}^3$LO for nucleons and extend it to $\Lambda$ hyperons with leading-order S-wave $YN$ interactions as well as $YNN$ forces constrained only by the $A=4,5$ systems. Our results contribute to a deeper understanding of the SU(3) symmetry breaking and establish a foundation for future improvements in hypernuclear calculations.

Abstract:We present a Poincare covariant Faddeev equation, which enables the simultaneous prediction of meson and baryon observables using the leading order in a truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger equations that can systematically be improved. The solution describes a nucleon's dressed-quark core. The evolution of the nucleon mass with current-quark mass is discussed. A nucleon-photon current, which can produce nucleon form factors with realistic Q(2) evolution, is described. Axial-vector diquark correlations lead to a neutron Dirac form factor that is negative, with r(1)(nu) > r(1)(nd). The proton electric-magnetic form factor ratio falls with increasing Q(2).

Abstract:The Faddeev equations for the three-body bound state with two- and three-body forces are solved directly as three-dimensional integral equation. The numerical feasibility and stability of the algorithm, which does not employ partial wave decomposition is demonstrated. The three-body binding energy and the full wave function are calculated with Malfliet-Tjon-type two-body potentials and scalar Fujita-Miyazawa type three-body forces. The influence of the strength and range of the three-body force on the wave function, single particle momentum distributions and the two-body correlation functions are studied in detail. The extreme case of pure three-body forces is investigated as well.

The Hypertriton Puzzle in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract:The yields of hadrons and light nuclei in relativistic collisions of heavy-nuclei at a center of mass energy of 2.6 TeV can be described remarkably well by a thermal distribution of an ideal gas of hadrons and light nuclei interacting only via the decay of resonances. Given the particularly small binding energy of hypertritons relative to the temperature describing the yields (about 156 MeV), one might naturally expect hypertrions to dissociate in medium, making the agreement of hypertriton yields with thermal predictions highly puzzling. The puzzle is compounded by the fact that small binding energy is associated with the large size of the hypertriton. This size is on a similar scale to the overall size of the fireball and much larger than the length scale over which temperatures in the fireball vary over phenomenologically relevant amounts. This paper quantifies the tension this effect causes and shows that it is sufficiently large to render the thermal model inconsistent: its natural assumptions are in conflict with its outputs. The possibility that hypertritons are formed at freeze out as compact objects, quark droplets, that subsequently evolve into hypertritons is considered as a way to resolve the puzzle. It is noted that beyond making the assumption that compact quark droplets form, additional detailed dynamical assumptions which have not been justified are needed to make the thermal model work. The issue of why, despite these issues, the hypertriton is well described by a simple statistical description at freeze out is unresolved. Resolving the hypertriton puzzle is important as it may clarify whether the phenomenological success of the simple thermal model for yields accurately reflects the simple picture of the underlying physics on which it is based.

$ΛΛ$ Interaction in a Nuclear Density Functional Theory and Hyperon Puzzle of the Neutron Star

Abstract:A Skyrme-type effective potential is determined to describe the interaction between $\Lambda$ hyperons in nuclear medium. Experimental data of the binding energies of the double-$\Lambda$ ($\Lambda\Lambda$) nuclei with mass numbers $A=10$--$13$ are used to fit the parameters of the $\Lambda\Lambda$ interaction. As a result of the fitting, we obtain eight different sets of the $\Lambda\Lambda$ interaction parameters, which reproduces the input data within 5\% deviation from the experimental data on average. The eight $\Lambda\Lambda$ interactions are plugged in the calculation of the heavier $\Lambda\Lambda$ nuclei and the neutron star equation of state to explore the issue of hyperon puzzle. We found that the $\Lambda\Lambda$ interaction, specifically, p-wave interaction makes the equation of state stiff enough that the maximum mass of the neutron star can be as large as, or above $2\;M_\odot$.

Abstract:The 2-body hyperon-nucleon interaction softens the equation of state of neutron star matter and leads to the maximum mass of neutron star to be 1.3-1.6 M ⊙ , which deviates from the recent observation with the masses of PSR J0348+0432 ( 2.01 ± 0.04 M ⊙ ) and J0740+6620 ( 2.14 − 0.09 + 0.10 M ⊙ ). One attempt is to introduce the more repulsive hyperon-nucleon interaction above the saturation density. A phenomenological Λ potential by fitting the 3-body ΛNN results of chiral effective field theory is implemented into the quantum molecular dynamics transport model to solve the ‘hyperon puzzle’ in neutron stars. It is found that the directed and elliptic flows are sensitive to the high-density hyperon-nucleon potentials in collisions of 197Au + 197Au and 124Sn + 124Sn. The influence of the phenomenological potential on the Λ yields, rapidity distributions and transverse momentum spectra is negligible in comparison with the ones calculated by the well-known relativistic mean-field model. The inclusion of the ΛN, ΣN and ΞN potentials leads to the reduction of hyperon production in the midrapidity region. The Λ directed flows and the slope in the midrapidity region are enhanced with the phenomenological potential and more consistent with the STAR data in collisions of 197Au + 197Au at s N N = 3 GeV.

Abstract:A confining, symmetry-preserving, Dyson-Schwinger equation treatment of a vector-vector contact interaction is used to formulate Faddeev equations for the nucleon and Delta-baryon in which the kernel involves dynamical dressed-quark exchange and whose solutions therefore provide momentum-dependent Faddeev amplitudes. These solutions are compared with those obtained in the static approximation and with a QCD-kindred formulation of the Faddeev kernel. They are also used to compute a range of nucleon properties, amongst them: the proton's sigma-term; the large Bjorken-x values of separate ratios of unpolarised and longitudinally-polarised valence u- and d-quark parton distribution functions; and the proton's tensor charges, which enable one to directly determine the effect of dressed-quark electric dipole moments (EDMs) on neutron and proton EDMs.
