Abstract:We study some properties of nucleons with a simplified version of a Faddeev equation at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. By taking diquark-quark bubble summation, we constructed the nucleon propagator and calculated the dynamical masses of the diquark and the nucleon in the pole approximation. We show that diquarks can survive as resonant states in the chiral symmetry restored phase at high temperature, and that nucleons are restricted in the chiral symmetry broken phase at low temperature. The phase diagram of the strongly interacting matter is then given.

Abstract:The finite-amplitude method is a feasible numerical approach to large scale random phase approximation calculations. It avoids the storage and calculation of residual interaction elements as well as the diagonalization of the RPA matrix, which will be prohibitive when the configuration space is huge. In this work we finished the implementation of a finite-amplitude method in a relativistic meson exchange mean field model with axial symmetry. The direct variation approach makes our FAM scheme capable of being extended to the multipole excitation case.

Abstract:We present a Poincare covariant Faddeev equation, which enables the simultaneous prediction of meson and baryon observables using the leading order in a truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger equations that can systematically be improved. The solution describes a nucleon's dressed-quark core. The evolution of the nucleon mass with current-quark mass is discussed. A nucleon-photon current, which can produce nucleon form factors with realistic Q(2) evolution, is described. Axial-vector diquark correlations lead to a neutron Dirac form factor that is negative, with r(1)(nu) > r(1)(nd). The proton electric-magnetic form factor ratio falls with increasing Q(2).
An extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model for quark and nuclear matters

Abstract:In this work, we extend the two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model to one capable of exploring quark and nuclear matter consistently. With an extra term standing for quark-nucleon interactions, nucleons could automatically emerge as color-singlet three-quark entities by following a process similar to mesons. Besides the quark part in mean field approximation, both mesons and nucleons could contribute to the thermodynamic potential thus possibly give rise to quarkyonic matter beyond mean field. In the study, two kinds of "confining" couplings are adopted for the new interaction term and two different quark masses are considered for comparison. It turns out that only confined nuclear matter or deconfined quark matter is possible for all the cases at zero temperature, thus quarkyonic matter is not favored at all. Even more strictly, only the case with stronger confinement effect and a smaller quark mass admits a physical first-order phase transition from nuclear matter to quark matter around twice saturation density.

Abstract:Poincare covariant Faddeev equations for the nucleon and Delta are solved to illustrate that an internally consistent description in terms of confined-quark and non-point-like confined-diquark correlations can be obtained. piN-loop induced self-energy corrections to the nucleon's mass are analyzed and shown to be independent of whether a pseudoscalar or pseudovector coupling is used. Phenomenological constraints suggest that this self-energy correction reduces the nucleon's mass by up to several hundred MeV. That effect does not qualitatively alter the picture, suggested by the Faddeev equation, that baryons are quark-diquark composites. However, neglecting the pi loops leads to a quantitative overestimate of the nucleon's axial-vector diquark component.

Abstract:Octet and Decuplet baryons are described within the hadronized NJL model as diquark--quark states, which are bound by quark exchange. Including scalar and axial--vector diquark correlations, we project the previously obtained relativistic Faddeev equation in a Poincaré invariant fashion onto good spin, using a static approximation to the exchanged quark. The resulting equations for the spin 1/2 octet and the spin 3/2 decuplet are solved numerically.

Finite nuclei in an extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Abstract:We propose a new theoretical framework to investigate the properties of finite nuclei based on an extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (eNJL) model, where the Dirac sea, the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, and the quark degrees of freedom are considered by extending the SU(3) NJL model and treating baryons as clusters of quarks. The eNJL model can then be readily adopted to examine the matter states ranging from baryonic matter to quark matter in a unified manner. In this work, by assuming spherically symmetric finite nuclei and neglecting the center-of-mass or rotational corrections, we systematically investigate the properties of finite nuclei based on the eNJL model with additional pairing correlations. It is found that our model generally reproduces the binding energies of the 2495 nuclei ($A>2$) from the 2016 Atomic Mass Evaluation (AME2016) with the root-mean-square deviations $5.38$ MeV. The deviations are mainly attributed to the too large shell gaps at magic numbers $N(Z) =28$, 50, and 82 as well as the spurious shell closures at $N(Z)=34$, 58, and 92. Meanwhile, the obtained charge radii of 906 nuclei are systematically smaller than the experimental values with root-mean-square deviations $0.127$ fm. In our future study, we expect to reduce the uncertainties of our predictions by carefully calibrating the density dependence of coupling constants and considering deformations with microscopic collective corrections from the nucleons in the Fermi sea and quarks in the Dirac sea.

Abstract:Using an extended version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model we build a simple description of the baryons as diquark-quark bound states. First, a description of the diquarks in a dense and hot medium is presented. Then, we introduce the formalism for the baryons based on the Faddeev equation associated with the so-called `` static approximation'' which finally gives a Bethe-Salpeter equation in the diquarks-quarks channel. By identifying the baryons with the bound states, we can obtain a description of their properties. In particular, we obtain the right mass spectrum for the proton, $\Lambda$, $\Xi$, and $\Sigma$ at T=0 and $\mu=0$. We extend the formalism to finite temperature and density to obtain a description of the mass change of these baryons in the medium.

Abstract:A confining, symmetry-preserving, Dyson-Schwinger equation treatment of a vector-vector contact interaction is used to formulate Faddeev equations for the nucleon and Delta-baryon in which the kernel involves dynamical dressed-quark exchange and whose solutions therefore provide momentum-dependent Faddeev amplitudes. These solutions are compared with those obtained in the static approximation and with a QCD-kindred formulation of the Faddeev kernel. They are also used to compute a range of nucleon properties, amongst them: the proton's sigma-term; the large Bjorken-x values of separate ratios of unpolarised and longitudinally-polarised valence u- and d-quark parton distribution functions; and the proton's tensor charges, which enable one to directly determine the effect of dressed-quark electric dipole moments (EDMs) on neutron and proton EDMs.

Abstract:We explain how the emergent phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking ensures that Poincaré covariant analyses of the three valence–quark scattering problem in continuum quantum field theory yield a picture of the nucleon as a Borromean bound-state, in which binding arises primarily through the sum of two separate contributions. One involves aspects of the non-Abelian character of Quantum Chromodynamics that are expressed in the strong running coupling and generate tight, dynamical color-antitriplet quark–quark correlations in the scalar–isoscalar and pseudovector-isotriplet channels. This attraction is magnified by quark exchange associated with diquark breakup and reformation, which is required in order to ensure that each valence–quark participates in all diquark correlations to the complete extent allowed by its quantum numbers. Combining these effects, we arrive at a properly antisymmetrised Faddeev wave function for the nucleon and calculate, e.g. the flavor-separated versions of the Dirac and Pauli form factors and the proton’s leading-twist parton distribution amplitude. We conclude that available data and planned experiments are capable of validating the proposed picture.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we study the 2-flavor equation of state of the quantum chromodynamics at zero temperature and finite chemical potentials with a modified Nambu–Jona–Lasinio model, where the beta equilibrium and electric charge neutrality conditions of the system (including u, d quarks, electrons and muons) are considered. The related chiral phase transition is also discussed in this paper. For comparison, we show the results with four different parameter sets, and find only quantitative differences. As chemical potential increases, the crossover instead of first-order chiral phase transition happens. Finally, we calculate the binding energy per baryon for different parameter sets, and find that the 2-flavor quark system with a smaller [math] (or a larger m) possesses the lower binding energy per baryon, indicated to be more stable than the other case.

Abstract:The developed Faddeev three-body equations are solved to search for bound-state solutions of a phi-meson (φ) and two-nucleon (NN) system. We employed the newly published spin 3/2 N−φ potential based on (2+1) -flavor lattice QCD simulations near the physical point and the realistic NN Malfliet-Tjon (MT) potential. Our numerical calculations for the (I)Jπ=(0)2−φ−d system in maximum spin lead to a ground state binding energy of about 7 MeV and a matter radius of about 8 fm. Abstract:A Poincaré-covariant quark+diquark Faddeev equation, augmented by a statistical implementation of the Schlessinger point method for the interpolation and extrapolation of smooth functions, is used to compute nucleon elastic form factors on 0≤Q2≤18mN2 (mN is the nucleon mass) and elucidate their role as probes of emergent hadronic mass in the Standard Model. The calculations expose features of the form factors that can be tested in new generation experiments at existing facilities, e.g., a zero in GEp/GMp, a maximum in GEn/GMn, and a zero in the proton’s d-quark Dirac form factor, F1d. Additionally, examination of the associated light-front-transverse number and anomalous magnetization densities reveals inter alia: a marked excess of valence u quarks in the neighborhood of the proton’s center of transverse momentum, and that the valence d quark is markedly more active magnetically than either of the valence u quarks. The calculations and analysis also reveal other aspects of nucleon structure that could be tested with a high-luminosity accelerator capable of delivering higher beam energies than are currently available.

Abstract:Quark-model nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions by the Kyoto- Niigata group are applied to the hypertriton calculation in a new three-cluster Faddeev formalism using the two-cluster resonating-group method kernels. The most recent model, fss2, gives a reasonable result similar to the Nijmegen soft-core model NSC89, except for an appreciable contributions of higher partial waves.

Abstract:Relativistic Hartree equations for spherical nuclei have been derived from a relativistic quark model of the structure of bound nucleons which interact through the (self-consistent) exchange of scalar (σ) and vector (ω and ϱ) mesons. The coupling constants and the mass of the σ-meson are determined from the properties of symmetric nuclear matter and the rms charge radius in 40Ca. Calculated properties of static, closed-shell nuclei from 16O to 208Pb are compared with experimental data and with results of Quantum Hadrodynamics (QHD). The dependence of the results on the nucleon size and the quark mass is investigated. Several possible extensions of the model are also discussed.

Relativistic Faddeev 3D Equations for Three-Body Bound States Without Two-Body $t-$Matrices

Abstract:This paper explores a novel revision of the Faddeev equation for three-body (3B) bound states, as initially proposed in Ref. \cite{golak2013three}. This innovative approach, referred to as \tmatrixfree in this paper, directly incorporates two-body (2B) interactions and completely avoids the 2B transition matrices. We extend this formalism to relativistic 3B bound states using a three-dimensional (3D) approach without using partial wave decomposition. To validate the proposed formulation, we perform a numerical study using spin-independent Malfliet-Tjon and Yamaguchi interactions. Our results demonstrate that the relativistic \tmatrixfree Faddeev equation, which directly implements boosted interactions, accurately reproduces the 3B mass eigenvalues obtained from the conventional form of Faddeev equation, referred to as \tmatrixdependent in this paper, with boosted 2B $t-$matrices. Moreover, the proposed formulation provides a simpler alternative to the standard approach, avoiding the computational complexity of calculating boosted 2B $t-$matrices and leading to significant computational time savings.

Abstract:The mass formulas and decay constants of electrically charged and strange pseudoscalar mesons are analyzed within the combined framework of Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model and the $1/N_c$ expansion up to $\mathcal O(1/N_c^2)$. The light quark masses explicitly violating $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ chiral symmetry of the strong interactions are taken to be of order $\mathcal O(1/N_c)$. The Fock-Schwinger proper-time method and the Volterra series are used to derive the effective action. A set of sum rules is obtained that relates the phenomenological values of the masses of pseudoscalar mesons to the mass ratios of light quarks. It is shown that combining the new sum rules with the experimental data on the decay width $\eta\to 3\pi$ allows to establish limits for the ratios: $0.47<m_u/m_d<0.59$ and $18.60<m_s/m_d<19.66$. A comparison with the results of similar calculations in $1/N_c$ chiral perturbation theory is made.

Selected Nucleon Form Factors and A Composite Scalar Diquark

Abstract:A covariant, composite scalar diquark, Fadde'ev amplitude model for the nucleon is used to calculate pseudoscalar, isoscalar- and isovector-vector, axial-vector and scalar nucleon form factors. The last yields the nucleon sigma-term and on-shell sigma-nucleon coupling. The calculated form factors are soft, and the couplings are generally in good agreement with experiment and other determinations. Elements in the dressed-quark-axial-vector vertex that are not constrained by the Ward-Takahashi identity contribute ~20% to the magnitude of g_A. The calculation of the nucleon sigma-term elucidates the only unambiguous means of extrapolating meson-nucleon couplings off the meson mass-shell.

Abstract:We formulate a Lippmann-Schwinger-type resonating-group equation to calculate invariant amplitudes of the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction. When applied to our recently proposed SU6 quark model for the nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions, this technique yields very accurate phase-shift parameters for all partial waves up to energies of several GeV. The technique also has the merit of providing a straightforward derivation of the G-matrix equation. A new analytic method is proposed to calculate the quark exchange Born kernel for the momentum-dependent two-body interaction. The partial-wave decomposition in the momentum representation is carried out numerically. The invariant amplitudes are then used to calculate single-nucleon potentials in normal nuclear matter for high incident momenta (q1 ≥ 3 fm−1), in which the so-called teff ρ prescription is found to be a good approximation of the single-particle potentials directly calculated in the lowest-order Brueckner theory.

Abstract:The nucleon-quark mixed matter is defined in the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock framework, in which quark densities are determined by equilibrium conditions between nucleon and quark chemical potentials, and nucleon-quark interactions play critical roles for resulting equations of state (EoSs). The two models of EoSs are derived from the nucleon-quark mixed matter (NQMM): The NQMM-A EoSs are based on the simple assumption that nucleons and free quarks occupy their respective Fermi levels and their Fermi spheres overlap from each other. In NQMM-B EoSs, the quark Fermi repulsion effect is incorporated on the basis of quarkyonic matter, meaning that the nucleon Fermi levels are pushed up from the quark Fermi sphere by the Pauli exclusion principle. For the NQMM-A EoSs, the neutron-star mass-radius (MR) curves are pushed up above the region of M∼2.1M⊙ and R2.1M⊙∼12.5 km indicated by recent observations, as the qN repulsions increase. For the NQMM-B EoSs, similar results are obtained by the combined contributions from the qN repulsion and the quark Fermi repulsion. In both models of EoSs, the important roles of the qN diquark exchange repulsions are demonstrated to reproduce reasonable values of Mmax and R2.1M⊙ . https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.110.025805 ©2024 American Physical Society
