Abstract:Pickering emulsion, an emulsion prepared by replacing conventional surfactants with solid particles, has been extensively used to construct a variety of functional materials especially 3D porous foams or aerogels. Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene have recently garnered tremendous attention and considered as a promising candidate for the construction of functional nanomaterials due to their fascinating properties. However, it remains a challenge to construct MXene-based composite porous materials. Herein, the Pickering emulsion co-stabilized by multiple kinds of particles and the subsequent MXene-based multifunctional composite foam were studied. The formation mechanism of Pickering emulsions stabilized by cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), nickel nanowires (Ni NW), and Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene was investigated along with their stabilization mechanism in a complex water-oil environment. The final Pickering emulsions exhibited excellent stability over a wide pH range (5−11) and ionic strength (0–400 mM). Further, the CNF/MXene/Ni (CMN) composite foam was prepared by freeze-drying the emulsion gel. The as-prepared foam exhibited a minimum reflection loss of −30.2 dB at 2.8 GHz frequency. Moreover, the foam also exhibited promising photothermal conversion behavior, maintaining a temperature of up to approximately 80.9 °C for 200 s of exposure to 1 Sun. Therefore, this work affords a new and universal method to prepare MXene-based multifunctional porous materials for their potential applications in many areas.

Abstract:The assembly of MXene materials into microcapsules has drawn great attentions due to their unique properties.However, rational design and synthesis of MXene-based microcapsules with specific nanostructures at the molecular scale remains challenging. Herein, we report a strategy to synthesize N/P co-doped MXene hollow flower-like microcapsules (MHM) with adjustable permeability via dual surfactants assisted hydrothermal-freeze drying (DSAH-FD) method,In contrast to anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants exhibited effective electrostatic interactions with MXene nanosheets during the hydrothermal process. Manipulation of dual surfactants in hydrothermal process realized N and P co-doping of MXene to improve flexibility and promoted the generation of abundant internal cavities in flower-like microcapsules. Based on the unique microstructure, the prepared hollow flower-like microcapsules showed excellent performance, stability and reusability in size-selective release of small organic molecules. Moreover, the release rate can be controlled by turning the oxidation state and type of MXene. The strategy delineates promising prospects for the design of MXene-based microcapsules with specific structures.

Abstract:The Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets chemically encapsulated with l‐cysteine (LC‐MX) possess ultra‐antioxidation and are used for HMCF surface modification. With recent progress in 2D materials, Ti3C2Tx MXene featured high metallic electrical conductivity, high electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness, and super in‐plane stiffness, exhibits unique advantages in many fields, but is rarely applied as a sizing agent in long‐time continuous processing of carbon fiber sizing because of its poor ambient stability in aqueous suspension. Herein, a new strategy to chemically encapsulate the reactive sites of MXene nanosheet with l‐cysteine for restricting the attacking of water and/or oxygen in aqueous suspension is proposed. Based on the ultra‐antioxidation, polarity, and electrical properties of l‐cysteine‐encapsulated Ti3C2Tx MXene (LC‐MX) nanosheet, the LC‐MX, even if aging for weeks in aqueous suspension, can be deposited on the surface of high‐modulus carbon fiber (HMCF) uniformly via the electrophoretic deposition assisted sizing. Benefiting from the enhanced surface energy, wettability, and roughness of LC‐MX‐sized HMCF (HMCF‐LCMX) relative to that of unsized one (U‐HMCF), the interfacial property of HMCF‐LCMX/epoxy (EP) composites is also improved, for which the interlayer shear strength (ILSS) of the composite reached 88.5 MPa, 52.8% higher than that of U‐HMCF/EP composite (57.9 MPa). This work makes an essential step toward the application of ultra‐stable MXene nanosheet suspension in large‐scale continuous carbon fiber sizing.

Abstract:Malware is one of the most terrible and major security threats facing the Internet today. In practice, the most widely used malware detection method is static detection. Static detection is effective for many types of malware. Operation code (opcode) sequences is one of the most important malware features for static analysis. In this paper, our goal is to optimize the accuracy and performance based on opcode features. Due to the diversity of the operation code, resulting in a large dimensions of feature of the malware, which will lead to low performance. We propose an information entropy based feature extraction method to extract a few but very useful information as representation of malware instances. At the same time, because of the low performance of the machine learning algorithm and the large set of features in the training and detection phase. We propose a generic Fast Density-Based Clustering algorithm for fast and accurately clustering malware instances. And our experiments demonstrate that our automated malware variant detection methodology is able to achieve high accuracy with significant speedup comparing with the other state-of-art approaches.

Abstract:A simple and efficient strategy to stabilize complex emulsions with cellulose nanocrystal surfactants and fluorosurfactants is developed. By using the concentration or pH as the stimulus, reconfiguration of complex emulsions from encapsulated to Janus structures can be achieved. With complex emulsions serving as templates, particles of different shapes including hollow, semi‐spherical, and spherical can be synthesized on large scale. Using nanoparticle surfactants to stabilize the liquid‐liquid interface has attracted significant attention for developing all‐liquid constructs including emulsions and liquid devices. Here, an efficient strategy is demonstrated to stabilize complex emulsions that consist of multiphase droplets by using the co‐assembly between the cellulose nanocrystal and amine‐functionalized polystyrene. Cellulose nanocrystal surfactants (CNCSs) form and assembly in situ at the specified area of emulsion interface, showing a unique pH responsiveness due to their dynamic nature and allowing the reconfiguration of complex emulsion from encapsulated to Janus structures. Such complex emulsions can be further used as the templates to fabricate polymeric particles with hollow, semi‐spherical, and spherical shapes on large scale. These findings establish a promising platform for designing intelligent soft matter that can be used in microreactors, sensors, and anisotropic materials.

Abstract:Gelation is an effective way to realize the self‐assembly of nanomaterials into different macrostructures, and in a typical use, the gelation of graphene oxide (GO) produces various graphene‐based carbon materials with different applications. However, the gelation of MXenes, another important type of 2D materials that have different surface chemistry from GO, is difficult to achieve. Here, the first gelation of MXenes in an aqueous dispersion that is initiated by divalent metal ions is reported, where the strong interaction between these ions and OH groups on the MXene surface plays a key role. Typically, Fe2+ ions are introduced in the MXene dispersion which destroys the electrostatic repulsion force between the MXene nanosheets in the dispersion and acts as linkers to bond the nanosheets together, forming a 3D MXene network. The obtained hydrogel effectively avoids the restacking of the MXene nanosheets and greatly improves their surface utilization, resulting in a high rate performance when used as a supercapacitor electrode (≈226 F g−1 at 1 V s−1). It is believed that the gelation of MXenes indicates a new way to build various tunable MXene‐based structures and develop different applications.

Abstract:A simple and effective way to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT)//silica hybrid microcapsules (colloidosomes) is presented. These microcapsules have been generated by emulsion templating in a biphasic oil-in-water (o/w) system. Two trialkoxysilanes of complementary polarity, (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) and dodecyltriethoxysilane (DTES), were used to chemically immobilize the silica nanoparticles at the o/w interface and stabilize the as-generated Pickering emulsions. The effects of varying the o/w ratio and the concentration of the added solids on the type of emulsion formed, the oil droplet size, as well as the emulsion stability have been investigated. The emulsion phase fraction was dependent on the silica content while the droplet size increased with increasing oil volume percentage. A solid shell emerged around the oil droplets from copolymerization between silane monomers. The thickness of the resulting shells was several hundreds of nm. Although MWNTs and silica nanoparticles both were co-assembled at the o/w interface, silica has shown to be the sole stabilizer, with APTES being crucial for the formation of the shell structure. Drop-casting of the emulsion and air-drying led to hierarchical open porous MWNT-silica nanocomposites. These new structures are promising as electrically conductive thin films for variety of applications, such as electro-optics, encapsulation, or chemical sensing.

Abstract:Increasing demand for electrochemical energy storage devices with high energy density, high power density, and long lifespan has posed significant challenges for developing suitable electrodes and electrolyte systems with fast charge transport kinetics and superior cycling stability. 1 As one of the promising electrode materials explored recently, MXenes (M n+1 X n T x ) are a group of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and/or nitrides, in which M is early transition metal, X presents C and/or N, T x stands for the surface groups such as =O, -OH, -Cl or -F. They exhibit excellent high-rate performance in electrochemical energy storage applications due to their unique properties: superior electronic conductivity (~15 000 S cm -1 ) and large interlayer spacing (~1 nm). 2 The charge storage mechanism and performance of the MXenes electrode is highly dependent on the electrode and electrolyte composition. For example, Ti 3 C 2 T x has shown rapid pseudocapacitive (de)intercalation of protons and transformation between the oxygen surface groups (=O) and hydroxyl (-OH) groups in acidic aqueous electrolytes. 3,4 As a result, Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibits an ultrahigh volumetric capacitance of 1500 F cm -3 in H 2 SO 4 electrolyte. 5 In less corrosive neutral aqueous electrolytes, the cation intercalation is accompanied by negligible charge transfer, leading to ultrafast charge storage. 6 Consequently, a moderate capacitance with superior cycling stability is reported in neutral electrolytes compared to acidic electrolytes. In contrast to dilute aqueous electrolyte, which has a limited electrochemical stability window (ESW), the highly concentrated water-in-salt (WIS) electrolyte possesses a large ESW (∼3.0 V) owing to the depressed activity of free water. Besides, the unique solvation structure of WIS electrolyte induces a novel intercalation of fully-solvated Li + at positive potential and increases the capacitance of MXene. 7 As a result, WIS electrolyte helps overcome the drawback of the low energy density of MXene in neutral aqueous electrolytes. In our research, we explored the impact of MXene structure and a novel electrolyte system on the pseudocapacitive performance of MXene. The charge storage behavior of Ti 3 C 2 T x in a molecular crowding electrolyte was explored. Interestingly, Ti 3 C 2 T x displayed one pair of redox peaks with low polarization, differing from both dilute neutral aqueous electrolyte and WIS electrolyte, which may be attributed to the intercalation of Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-solvated Li + cluster. The in situ X-ray diffraction are employed to better understand the charge storage process. We also constructed a MXene/polymer heterostructure with enlarged interlayer spacing. MXene sheets surface constructed a strong hydrogel coating for sustainable oily wastewater separation

Abstract:Membrane separation technology can effectively address the issues of high energy consumption and low efficiency encountered in traditional separation processes. However, oil fouling hinders the widespread adoption of membrane technology in the field of oil-water separation. Therefore, preventing membrane fouling is crucial for overcoming this bottleneck. Titanium carbide (Ti3C2Tx, MXene), a recent addition to the two-dimensional material family, has garnered significant interest in the domain of water treatment owing to its controllable surface groups, hydrophilic nature, antimicrobial properties, and high electrical conductivity. Hence, we proposed a strategy to construct hydrogel coatings on carboxylated MXene surfaces. Moreover, the rigidity of the hydrogel framework was further improved by introducing CaCO3 nanoparticles. A stronger hydrogel layer ensured that the hydration layer is difficult to contaminate with oil and the fastness of the membrane material. Naturally, the as-prepared membrane showed excellent separation performance for a wide range of emulsions, maintaining high levels (3979.5 L m–2 h−1 bar−1 and 99.96 %) after 5 consecutive separation cycles of 200 min. Additionally, the membrane separated emulsions containing acids, salts, or alkali with a permeability of 2982.8 L m–2 h−1 bar−1 after 40 min; it also treated actual oily wastewater achieving a permeability of 238.9 L m–2 h−1 bar−1 and showed high removal efficiency (>99.9 %) for several heavy metals (Cu, Li, Pb, Se, and V), as well as antimicrobial (92.5 %) properties that enhance its potential for industrial applications. This study offers a new idea for designing anti-oil-fouling MXene oil-water separation membranes.

Analysis of Pan-European attitudes to the eradication and control of bovine viral diarrhoea

Abstract:At present, national-level policies concerning the eradication and control of bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) differ widely across Europe. Some Scandinavian countries have enacted strong regulatory frameworks to eradicate the disease, whereas other countries have few formal policies. To examine these differences, the attitudes of stakeholders and policy makers in 17 European countries were investigated. A web-based questionnaire was sent to policy makers, government and private sector veterinarians, and representatives of farmers' organisations. In total, 131 individuals responded to the questionnaire and their responses were analysed by applying a method used in sociolinguistics: frame analysis. The results showed that the different attitudes of countries that applied compulsory or voluntary frameworks were associated with different views about the attribution or blame for BVD and the roles ascribed to farmers and other stakeholders in its eradication and control.

Abstract:Scaling the synergistic properties of MXene nanosheets to microporous aerogel architectures requires effective strategies to overcome the nanosheet restacking without compromising MXene's advantageous properties. Traditional assembly approaches of 3D MXene aerogels normally involve external binders/templates and/or additional functionalization, which sacrifice the electrical conductivities and electrochemical activities of MXene aerogels. Herein, inspired by the hierarchal scale textures of Phrynosoma cornutum, a crumple-textured Ti3C2Tx MXene platform is engineered to facilitate Mg2+-induced assembly, enabling conformal formation of large-area Mg2+-MXene aerogels without polymeric binders. Through a doctor blading technique and freeze drying, the Mg2+-MXene aerogels are produced with customized shapes/dimensions, featuring high surface area (140.5 m2 g−1), superior electrical conductivity (758.4 S m−1), and high robustness in water. The highly conductive MXene aerogels show their versatile applications from macroscale technologies (e.g., electromagnetic interference shielding and capacitive deionization (CDI)) to on-chip electronics (e.g., quasi-solid-state microsupercapacitors (QMSCs)). As CDI electrodes, the Mg2+-MXene aerogels exhibit high salt adsorption capacity (33.3 mg g−1) and long-term operation reliability (over 30 cycles), showing a superb comparison with the literature. Also, the QMSCs with interdigitated Mg2+-MXene aerogel electrodes demonstrate high areal capacitances (409.3 mF cm−2) with superior power density and energy density compared with other state-of-art QMSCs.

Abstract:Dispersing metal-organic framework (MOF) solids in stable colloids is crucial for their availability and processibility. Herein, we report a crown ether surface coordination approach for functionalizing the surface-exposed metal sites of MOF particles with amphiphilic carboxylated crown ether (CEC ). The surface-bound crown ethers significantly improve MOF solvation without compromising the accessible voids. We demonstrate that CEC -coated MOFs exhibit exceptional colloidal dispersibility and stability in 11 distinct solvents and six polymer matrices with a wide range of polarities. The MOF-CEC can be instantaneously suspended in immiscible two-phase solvents as an effective phase-transfer catalyst and can form various uniform membranes with enhanced adsorption and separation performance, which highlights the effectiveness of crown ether coating.
Simultaneous intercalation of sodium ion and DMSO into Ti3C2 MXene/epoxy with high electrical conductivity: Synthesis and investigation

Abstract:The synthesis of Mxene and preparation of Mxene/epoxy nanocomposite. MXene is one of the most recent additions to the family of two‐dimensional materials. In this study, two groups of TiC MXenes (D refers to intercalated MXene with dimethyl sulfoxide [DMSO] and ND refers to intercalation with DMSO and sodium hydroxide [NaOH]) were synthesized utilizing the Ti3AlC2 MAX phase and a 30% hydrofluoric acid solution. A comprehensive analysis of their mechanical and electrical attributes was undertaken, highlighting an innovative approach involving simultaneous intercalation using both DMSO and NaOH. To put it in other words, adding sodium (Na) ion during the intercalation of DMSO could not only increase the electrical conductivity, but also accelerate the process of synthesis, as two steps of intercalation of DMSO and addition of sodium were mixed, making one step. The characterization of MXene was accomplished through x‐ray diffraction analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Mechanical properties were evaluated employing dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, tensile, and Vickers hardness. The optimal weight percentage for achieving the desired electrical and mechanical properties in both groups of MXenes was found to be 5 wt%. Incorporating 5% D‐group MXene into the epoxy system resulted in substantial improvements. As a consequence, electrical conductivity, Young's modulus, elongation at break, tensile strength, and storage modulus in glassy state and hardness increased by factors of 108 times, 115%, 235%, 175%, 30% and 60%, respectively. The mentioned properties rose by 1010 times, 70%, 200%, 120%, 16% and 140%, respectively by adding the 5% ND‐group MXene. Abstract:A nanocomposite film with a "brick‐and‐mortar" architecture is constructed by an interfacial dual‐filling strategy, which realizes excellent mechanical strength (139.5 MPa), super‐low infrared (IR) emissivity (0.16), sound electromagnetic shielding properties, and super‐high volume capacitance of 508.2 F cm−3. MXenes have attracted growing interest in electrochemical energy storage owing to their high electronic conductivity and editable surface chemistry. Besides, rendering MXenes with spectrum defense properties further broadens their versatile applications. However, the development of MXenes suffers from weak van der Waal interaction‐driven self‐restacking that leads to random alignment and inferior interface microenvironments. Herein, a nacre‐inspired MXene film is tailored by dual‐filling of 2‐ureido‐4[1H]‐pyrimidinone (UPy)‐modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA‐UPy) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The dual‐nanofillers engineering endows the nanocomposite film with a highly ordered structure (a Herman's order value of 0.838), a high mechanical strength (139.5 MPa), and continuous conductive pathways of both the ab plane and c‐axis. As a proof‐of‐concept, the tailored nanocomposite film achieves a considerable capacitance of 508.2 F cm−3 and long‐term cycling stability without performance degradation for 10 000 cycles. It is efficient for spectra defense in radar and infrared bands, displaying a high electromagnetic shielding capacity (19186 dB cm2 g−1) and a super‐low infrared (IR) emissivity (0.16), with negligible performance decay after saving in the air for 1 year, responsible for the applications in specific and complex conditions. This interfacial dual‐filler engineering concept showcases effective nanotechnology toward sustainable energy applications with a long lifetime and safety.

Abstract:2D transition metal carbides and nitrides, named MXenes, are attracting increasing attentions and showing competitive performance in energy storage devices including electrochemical capacitors, lithium- and sodium-ion batteries, and lithium-sulfur batteries. However, similar to other 2D materials, MXene nanosheets are inclined to stack together, limiting the device performance. In order to fully utilize MXenes' electrochemical energy storage capability, here, processing of 2D MXene flakes into hollow spheres and 3D architectures via a template method is reported. The MXene hollow spheres are stable and can be easily dispersed in solvents such as water and ethanol, demonstrating their potential applications in environmental and biomedical fields as well. The 3D macroporous MXene films are free-standing, flexible, and highly conductive due to good contacts between spheres and metallic conductivity of MXenes. When used as anodes for sodium-ion storage, these 3D MXene films exhibit much improved performances compared to multilayer MXenes and MXene/carbon nanotube hybrid architectures in terms of capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability. This work demonstrates the importance of MXene electrode architecture on the electrochemical performance and can guide future work on designing high-performance MXene-based materials for energy storage, catalysis, environmental, and biomedical applications.

Abstract:Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have shown effectiveness in improving MXenes' accessibility for energy-related applications. However, the ability of individually-dispersed MWCNTs to control the structure of MXene-based macrostructures is unclear. Here, the correlation among composition, surface nano- and microstructure, MXenes' stacking order, structural swelling, and Li-ion transport mechanisms and properties in individually-dispersed MWCNT-Ti3C2 films is investigated. The compact surface microstructure of MXene film, characterized by prominent wrinkles, is dramatically changed as MWCNTs occupy MXene/MXene edge interfaces. The 2D stacking order is preserved up to 30 wt% MWCNTs despite a significant swelling of ~400%. Such alignment is completely disrupted at 40 wt%, and a more pronounced surface opening and internal expansion of ~770% are realized. Both 30 wt% and 40 wt% membranes show stable cycling performance under a significantly higher current density due to faster transport channels. Notably, for the 3D membrane, over-potential during repeated Li deposition/dissolution reactions is further reduced by ~50%. Ion-transport mechanisms in the absence and presence of MWCNTs are discussed. Furthermore, ultralight yet continuous hybrid films comprising up to ~0.027 mg/cm2 Ti3C2 can be prepared using aqueous colloidal dispersions and vacuum filtration for specific applications. The potential application of such ultralight membranes as interlayers for Li-O2 batteries is briefly examined.

Abstract:A facile covalent assembly strategy is proposed for the preparation of superhydrophobic COF-stabilized MXene separation membranes. Abstract:Although Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene has been widely explored for diverse applications due to its excellent performance, it has long faced challenges such as hydrophilicity , oxidation susceptibility and poor mechanical properties. In this work, surface functionalization using perfluorosilane (PFOTS) was applied to endow MXene with super-hydrophobicity, improving its stability, and the resulting materials remained unaltered after at least 150 days. Superhydrophobic composite film with a sandwich-like structure was prepared from superhydrophobic MXene and TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose through layer-by-layer self-assembly. The resulting hybrid film exhibits exceptional flexibility and strength, allowing folding into various shapes and easily supporting a considerable weight ( ca. 1 kg). The superhydrophobic composite film displays a high-water contact angle of over 153°, showing excellent self-cleaning ability , water repellency and durability. The composite film also shows high photothermal conversion capacity and stability , being able to rapidly increase the temperature above 100 °C under NIR laser irradiation, maintaining it during long time. Interestingly, the combination of super-hydrophobicity and photothermal conversion ability of the composite film successfully achieves controllable light-driven motion and enhanced antibacterial properties by the simultaneous integration of super-hydrophobicity, antiadhesion and long-lasting photothermal sterilization properties. The resulting multifunctional film not only expands knowledge of superhydrophobic surfaces, but also provides valuable new options and strategies for potential applications in light- sensitive robotics, free-standing flexible electronic solids , and improved antibacterial materials.
Gaseous Scissor-mediated Electrochemical Exfoliation of Halogenated MXenes and its Boosting in Wear-Resisting Tribovoltaic Devices

Abstract:Two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXenes), especially their few-layered nanosheets, have triggered burgeoning research attentions owing to their superiorities including extraordinary conductivity, accessible active surface, and adjustable processability. Molten salts etching route further achieves their controllable surface chemistry. However, the method encounters challenges in achieving few-layer structures due to more complex delamination behaviors. Herein, we present an efficient strategy to fabricate Cl- or Br-terminated MXene nanoflakes with few-layers, achieved by electrochemical intercalation of Li ions and concomitant solvent molecules in the electrolyte solution, with gaseous scissors (propylene molecules) to break up interlayer forces. By controlling cut-off voltages, the optimal protocol results in nanosheets with an ultrahigh yield (~93%) and preserved surface chemistry. The resultant MXenes dispersions were employed as lubricants to enhance tribovoltaic nanogenerators, where Ti3C2Br2 displayed superior electrical output. These findings facilitate the understanding of MXenes' intrinsic physical properties and enable the nanoengineering of advanced electronic devices.

Abstract:A carbon nanotube‐assisted exfoliation approach is proposed to enhance the exfoliation yield of large MXene flakes and convert centrifugation residues into small MXene flakes. Furthermore, planar interdigital micro‐supercapacitors are assembled to showcase the synergistic effect of combining large‐ and small‐flake MXene, leading to a remarkable volumetric capacitance and energy density. The exceptional properties of 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXene) have led to numerous promising applications. However, the performance of MXene is often dependent on the size of the flakes, and obtaining large‐sized, high‐quality MXene flakes remains challenging. Herein, a carbon nanotube (CNT)‐assisted exfoliation strategy is introduced, which significantly improves the yield of large‐flake MXene while entirely transforming the centrifugation residues into small‐flake MXene, resulting in waste‐free synthesis of MXene. The average size of the obtained MXene flakes can reach over 10 and 0.7 μm for the two populations, respectively. Additionally, the capacitive performance of MXene can be greatly enhanced with a small amount of CNTs. As a proof of concept, a planar interdigital micro‐supercapacitor with heterogeneous layers assembled by large‐ and small‐flake MXene simultaneously exhibits outstanding synergistic enhancement in volumetric capacitance (1072 F cm−3) and energy density (53.5 mWh cm−3). This CNT‐assisted method provides explicit directions for achieving the ideal utilization of MXene, improving the yield of large flakes while making judicious use of waste, to meet specific application needs.
