Abstract:After corrective osteotomy of cubitus varus, the lateral condylar prominence is a common problem, which is believed to be due to the unequal relative cuts of the lateral base wedge osteotomy. Therefore, several related solutions have been proposed, such as dome osteotomy and step-cut osteotomies, which solve the above problems to a certain extent. This study aimed to: (I) use a modified corpectomy to correct the deformity, and (II) present a new corpectomy method that uses a 3D-printed specific guide with an isosceles triangle osteotomy. A 12-year-old male presented with a –30-degree cubitus varus deformity 5 years after a supracondylar fracture of the right humerus. The degree of correction was determined from the varus angle and the normal carrying angle on the normal side. A rotating isosceles triangle osteotomy was determined by using Mimics software. The accuracy of the osteotomy angle was confirmed by postoperative radiography. The mean postoperative carrying angle was found to be preserved at the 10-month follow-up, with no complications. A rotating isosceles triangle osteotomy with a 3D-printed patient-specific guide may be providing a relative accurate result. However, in order to obtain more rigorous research conclusions, more cases should be added to examine this methodology for bone deformity surgery in the near future.
Precision of computed tomography and cartilage-reproducing image reconstruction method in generating digital model for potential use in 3D printing of patient-specific radial head prosthesis: a human cadaver study

Abstract:Abstract Background A prosthetic replacement is a standard treatment for an irreparable radial head fracture; however, the surface mismatch of the commercially available designs is concerned for the long-term cartilage wear. The patient-specific implant created from 3D printing technology could be favorable in replicating the normal anatomy and possibly reduce such sequela. Our study aimed to assess the precision of the computed tomography (CT) and cartilage-reproducing image reconstruction method (CIRM) in generating digital models for potentially use in manufacturing the patient-specific prosthesis from 3D printing. Methods Eight intact elbows (3 right and 5 left) from 7 formalin - embalmed cadavers (4 males and 3 females) with mean age of 83 years (range, 79–94 years) were used for this study. Computerized 3D models were generated from CT, and CIRM. The cartilage-reproducing image reconstruction method has compensated the cartilage profile based on the distance between the subchondral surfaces of the radial head and surrounding bones in CT images. The models of actual radial head geometry used as the gold standard was generated from CT arthrography (CTA). All models of each specimen were matched by registering the surface area of radial neck along with the tuberosity. The difference of head diameter, head thickness, and articular disc depth among three models was evaluated and analyzed by Friedman ANOVA and multiple comparison test using Bonferroni method for statistical correction. A p -value of less than 0.01 was considered statistically significant. The difference of overall 3D geometry was measured with the root mean square of adjacent point pairs. Results The analysis displayed the difference of diameter, thickness, and disc depth across the models ( p < 0.01). Pairwise comparisons revealed statistically significant difference of all parameters between CTA models and CT models ( p < 0.01) whereas no difference was found between CTA models and CIRM models. The mean difference of overall 3D geometry between CTA models and CT models was 0.51±0.24 mm, and between CTA models and CIRM models was 0.24±0.10 mm. Conclusions CIRM demonstrated encouraging results in reestablish the normal anatomy and could be potentially used in production process of 3D printed patient-specific radial head prosthesis.

Abstract:Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, Volume 32, Issue 1, January-April 2024. PurposeTo report preliminary clinical results and safety of 3D-printed patient-specific titanium radial head (RH) prosthesis in treatment of the irreparable RH fractures.Material and methodsThis multi-centric prospective study included 10 patients (6 men and four women, mean age 41 years (range, 25–64 years)). Three cases were classified as Mason type III and 7 cases as type IV. Patients were assessed preoperatively, intraoperatively, and at 1, 6, 12, 24, 36, and 48 weeks postoperatively. Range of motion (ROM), visual analog scale (VAS) score, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score, Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), radiology imaging, and laboratory blood and urine testing were evaluated.ResultsThe prostheses were implanted utilizing cemented stems in 5 patients and cementless stems in 5 patients. Intraoperatively, well congruency of a prosthesis with capitellum and radial notch of ulna was observed in all cases. All patients had improvement of ROM, VAS score, DASH score, and MEPS during the postoperative follow-ups. At the final follow-up, mean elbow extension was 6.5° (range, 0°–30°), flexion 145° (range, 125°–150°), supination 79° (range, 70°–80°), and pronation 73.5° (range, 45°–80°). Mean VAS score was 0.3 (range, 0–3), DASH score was 12.35 (range, 1.7–23.3), and MEPS was 99.5 (range, 95–100). Postoperative radiographs demonstrated heterotopic ossification in 2 cases, periprosthetic radiolucency in 2 cases, and proximal radial neck resorption in 2 cases. No one had the evidence of capitellar erosion, implant failure, malpositioning, overstuffing, or symptomatic stem loosening. There was no significant alteration of laboratory results or adverse events related to the 3D-printed prosthesis implantation.ConclusionThe preliminary results demonstrated that implantation of the 3D-printed patient-specific titanium RH prosthesis is safe and may be a potential treatment option for irreparable RH fracture.

Abstract:Abstract Background Cubitus varus deformity (CVD), a common complication after a supracondylar fracture of the distal humerus, is usually treated with corrective osteotomy. However, due to the complex anatomy of the distal humerus, conventional osteotomy techniques are sometimes unreliable and can result in an inaccurate correction, residual deformity, and lateral condyle prominence. Recently, medial three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has demonstrated potential benefits for the treatment of CVD by improving the accuracy of the osteotomy through the use of an osteotomy guide with or without a patient-mated plate. This study aimed to present an interesting CVD case involving a patient who was treated with corrective biplanar Chevron osteotomy using an innovative customized osteotomy guide and a newly designed patient-matched monoblock crosslink plate created with 3D printing technology. Methods A computer simulation was processed using images from computerized tomography(CT) scans of both upper extremities. The biplanar Chevron osteotomy was designed to create identical anatomy between the mirror image of the contralateral distal humerus and the osteotomized distal humerus. Next, the customized osteotomy guide and patient-matched monoblock crosslink plate were designed and printed. A simulation osteotomy for the real-sized bone model was created. Results The operation was performed using the posterior paratricipital approach and the k-wire position from the customized osteotomy guide as a predrilled hole for screw fixation to achieve immediate control of the reduction after osteotomy. Our method helped successfully treat the CVD in the case study patient and significantly improved her radiographic and clinical outcomes with a satisfactory result. Conclusion This study showed that the treatment of CVD using 3D printing technology to create an innovative customized osteotomy guide and a patient-matched monoblock crosslink plate can help accurately assess and control the CVD correction. To the best of our knowledge, this case report introduces a new insight for the clinical application of 3D printing technology in the treatment of CVD.

Abstract:Objective. To investigate the effect and safety of 3D printing technology in proximal femoral osteotomy in children with developmental dysplasia of the hip. Methods. 40 cases of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip treated by pelvic osteotomy combined with proximal femoral osteotomy at Ningbo No. 6 Hospital from January 2017 to December 2019 were retrieved and retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 20 cases received preoperative measurement and design assisted by 3D printing technology (the 3D printing group), and 20 cases received conventional preoperative measurement and design (the conventional group). Results. All patients were followed up for an average of 25 (12~36) months. During the follow-up, there were no complications such as infection, fracture of internal fixation, or malunion of osteotomy. Compared with the conventional group, the 3D printing group had a shorter operation time, less intraoperative blood loss, and fewer intraoperative X-ray fluoroscopies (all p < 0.05 ). In the last follow-up, the clinical efficacy was evaluated by the McKay standard: in the 3D printing group, 14 cases were excellent, 5 cases were good, and 1 case was fair. In the conventional group, 10 cases were excellent, 9 cases were good, and 1 case was fair ( Z = − 0.382 , p > 0.05 ). Conclusion. Preoperative 3D printing of bilateral femur and other large physical models is accurate, which is ideal for the development of individual preoperative planning. Proximal femoral osteotomy using preoperative measurements and simulated surgical data improves the safety of the operation.

Abstract:Complicated and large acetabular bone defects present the main challenges and difficulty in the revision of total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study aimed to explore the advantages of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology in the reconstruction of such acetabular bone defects. We retrospectively analyzed the prognosis of four severe bone defects around the acetabulum in three patients who were treated using 3D printing technology. Reconstruction of bone defect by conventional methods was difficult in these patients. In this endeavor, we used radiographic methods, related computer software such as Materialise's interactive medical image control system (MIMICS) and Siemens NX software, and actual surgical experience to estimate defect volume, prosthesis stability, and installation accuracy, respectively. Moreover, a Harris hip score was obtained to evaluate limb function. It was found that bone defects could be adequately reconstructed using a 3D printing prosthesis, and its stability was reliable. The Harris hip score indicated a very good functional recovery in all three patients. In conclusion, 3D printing technology had a good therapeutic effect on both complex and large bone defects in the revision of THA. It was able to achieve good curative effects in patients with large bone defects.

Abstract:Objectives: Anterior cruciate ligament injury is the most common type of knee joint ligament injury. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has a high failure rate, with bone tunnel abnormalities as the most significant factor in these failures. Digital orthopedic technology can effectively develop implementation plans for the revision, thus increasing the success rate. This study aims to develop a surgical plan for anterior cruciate ligament revision by employing multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) for measuring bone tunnel position and diameter, and simulating bone tunnel creation via 3D printing preoperatively. Methods: A total of 12 patients who underwent anterior cruciate ligament revision at the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University between 2014 and 2021 were retrospectively studied. The data included patient demographics, preoperative formulated knee joint 3D printing models, and preoperative knee CT scans. The study measured the bone tunnel's diameter and position to guide the establishment of revision bone tunnels during surgery, reassessed the postoperative bone tunnels, and evaluated knee joint functional scores [including International Knee Documentation Committee Knee Evaluation Form (IKDC) score, Lysholm score, and Tegner exercise level score]. Results: Preoperative measurements revealed suboptimal femoral tunnels positions in 4 patients and tibial tunnels positions in 2 patients. MPR and 3D printing technology were used to guide the establishment of a new bone canal during surgery, and postoperative measurements were satisfactory for all patients. Preoperative measurements demonstrated the interclass correlation coefficient for femoral tunnels and tibial tunnels diameters were 0.843 (P<0.05) and 0.889 (P<0.001), respectively. Meanwhile, the intraclass correlation coefficient were 0.811 (P<0.05) and 0.784 (P<0.05), respectively. The intraoperative diameter of femoral and tibial tunnels showed excellent correlation with postoperative CT measurements, with intraclass correlation coefficient values of 0.995 (P<0.001) and 0.987 (P<0.001), respectively. All bone tunnel positions were within the normal range. At the final follow-up, knee joint function scores in all 12 patients improved significantly compared to pre-surgery (P<0.001), and the reoperation rate was zero. Conclusions: MPR and 3D printing technology can accurately measure the parameters of reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament bone tunnels. Personalized revision plans for patients with reconstruction failure enhances the success rate of revision surgery and improves patient prognosis.
A novel patient-specific 3D printed guide for accurate femoral derotation osteotomies: a case report

Abstract:Background: Femoral malrotation errors are prevalent after intramedullary (IM) nailing for femur fractures. Supposing fracture consolidation has occurred, only a derotation osteotomy can offer a solution to this complication, despite <i>in situ</i> nail interference. The authors present a novel case-based surgical technique using 3D technology to obtain an accurate derotation correction and desired clinical outcome while facilitating surgery technics.Case Description: A 32-year-old woman was referred to our clinic with ongoing right anterior groin pain. Three months earlier, she sustained a high energy fall resulting in a subtrochanteric femur fracture. This was treated with a long IM femoral nail (PFNA™, Synthes, Solothurn, Switzerland) elsewhere. Postoperatively, she developed a limping gait pattern with 'toeing-in' and persistent hip pain during walking. In supine position, a notable axial malalignment towards endo-rotation was visible as compared to the contralateral side. CT-scan showed a side to side difference of 36° anteversion. It was decided to perform a subtrochanteric femoral derotation osteotomy. Outcomes concerning restoration of painless gait and bony healing were successfully obtained at 4 months.Conclusions: The application of a 3D guide with uni-cortical K-wire placement for derotation osteotomies provides additional correction control during surgery and accurate outcome, while facilitating the flow of this technically demanding procedure.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Congenital radioulnar synostosis (CRUS) is a rare deformity of the upper extremity. It is characterized by loss of rotation of the involved forearm and functional limitations in daily activities. No studies on CRUS with osteoporosis have been reported to date, and osteoporosis is usually recognized as an important dimension of genetic disorder in children. We discuss the possible relationship among this disorder, osteoporosis and fracture nonunion, investigate the strict surgical indications and recommended treatments.CASE SUMMARY: A 14-year-old male patient with bilateral CRUS with osteoporosis, fragility fracture and nonunion of fractures in ulna and radius presented our institution for further treatment, complaining of limitation in rotation. The bone mineral density of the hip and lumbar spine was 0.687 g/cm2 and 0.705 g/cm2, respectively, and the Z-score for both was -2.1, which revealed osteoporosis and a high risk of fracture. Tow serum bone turnover markers indicated an imbalance of bone metabolism. Reoperation for ulna fracture with autogenous bone grafting and a postoperative physiotherapy program were adopted rather than the separation of pathological synostosis. Radiological examination, observational posture assessment and limb function scale were evaluated before and 1 year after surgery. At 1 year, the fracture nonunion had almost recovered, forearm movement function on the fracture side was restored, and function on the healthy side was significantly improved compared with that before rehabilitation.CONCLUSION: Surgical indications for CRUS vary from person to person. Surgery should not be the first choice of treatment, and physiotherapy is not inferior to surgical treatment.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the feasibility and early effectiveness of computer-simulated osteotomy based on the health-side combined with guide plate technique in the treatment of cubitus varus deformity in adolescents. Methods: The clinical data of 23 patients with cubitus varus deformity who met the selection criteria between June 2019 and February 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 17 males and 6 females, ranging in age from 4 to 16 years with an average of 8.5 years. The time from injury to operation was 1-4 years. The angle of distal humerus rotation was defined by humeral head posterior inclination angle using low radiation dose CT to scan the patient's upper extremity data at one time, and the preoperative rotation of the distal humerus on the affected side was (33.82±4.39)°. The CT plain scan data were imported into 9yuan3D digital orthopaedic system (V3.34 software) to reconstruct three-dimensional images of both upper extremities. The simulated operation was performed with the healthy upper extremity as the reference, the best osteotomy scheme was planned, overlapped and compared, and the osteotomy guide plate was prepared. The patients were followed up regularly after operation, and the formation of callus in the osteotomy area was observed by X-ray examination. Before and after operation, the carrying angle of both upper extremities (the angle of cubitus valgus was positive, and the angle of cubitus varus was negative) and anteversion angle were measured on X-ray and CT images. At the same time, the flexion and extension range of motion of elbow joint and the external rotation range of motion of upper extremity were measured, and Mayo score was used to evaluate the function of elbow joint. Results: The operation time ranged from 34 to 46 minutes, with an average of 39 minutes. All patients were followed up 5-26 months, with a mean of 14.9 months. All the incisions healed by first intention after the operation; 2 patients had nail path irritation symptoms after Kirschner wire fixation, which improved after dressing change; no complication such as breakage and loosening of internal fixators occurred after regular X-ray review. Continuous callus formed at the osteotomy end at 4 weeks after operation, and the osteotomy end healed at 8-12 weeks after operation. At last follow-up, the carrying angle, anteversion angle, external rotation range of motion, and extension and flexion range of motion of the elbow joint of the affected side significantly improved when compared with preoperative ones ( P<0.05). Except for the extension range of motion of the healthy elbow joint ( P<0.05), there was no significant difference in other indicators between the two sides ( P>0.05). At last follow-up, the Mayo elbow score was 85-100, with an average of 99.3; 22 cases were excellent, 1 case was good, and the excellent and good rate was 100%. Conclusion: Computer-simulated osteotomy based on health-side combined with guide plate technique for treating cubitus varus deformity in adolescents can achieve precise osteotomy, which has the advantages of short operation time and easy operation, and the short-term effectiveness is satisfactory.
Design and application of a novel 3D printing digital navigation template for cubitus varus deformity in children

Abstract:Background: This study was aimed to assess the feasibility and efficacy of 3D printing digital template for treatment of cubitus varus deformity. Methods: 32 patients who underwent lateral closing osteotomy were evaluated between January 2018 and January 2020 in this retrospective study. Navigation templates were used in 17 cases, while conventional surgery in 15 cases. The carrying angles before and after surgery, operation time and elbow joint function were compared. Results: Navigation templates matched well with the anatomical markers of the lateral humerus. More accurate osteotomy degrees, shorter operation time and less radiation exposure were achieved in the navigation template group (p < 0.05). At the last follow-up time, significant difference was found based on the Bellemore criteria (p = 0.0288). Conclusions: The novel navigation template can shorten operation time, improve the lateral closing osteotomy accuracy and improve postoperative elbow joint function.
Reconstruction of the proximal radius with 3D-printed personalized prosthesis after tumor resection: case series

Abstract:Background: Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) (Campanacci III) or malignant tumors extend to the epiphyseal region of the proximal radius, and intra-articular resection of the proximal radius is often needed. In the present study, we present the patients who underwent reconstruction of the proximal radius with 3D-printed personalized prosthesis after tumor resection, aiming to describe the prosthesis design and surgical technique and evaluate the clinical outcomes of this method. Methods: Between November 2018 and January 2021, 9 patients received radial hemiarthroplasty with 3D-printed personalized prostheses after tumor resection. The pathologic diagnosis was GCTB (Campanacci III) in 7 patients, osteosarcoma (IIB) in 1 patient, and synovial sarcoma (IIB) in 1 patient. The range of motion (ROM) and strength in terms of elbow flexion/extension and forearm supination/pronation were evaluated. Pain was assessed by the visual analog scale (VAS) preoperatively and at each follow-up visit. To evaluate the functional outcome, the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS) system and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scoring system were administered at each follow-up visit. Complications and oncological outcomes were recorded. Results: The patients were followed from 24 to 51 months, with a median follow-up of 35 months. No patients were lost to follow-up. During the follow-up, local recurrence and metastasis were not observed. The VAS score improved from a median of 5 points (range 4-7) preoperatively to 1 point (range 0-2) at the last follow-up visit. The mean MEPS score was 88.5% (83-93), and the mean MSTS score was 25.3 (24-27) at the last follow-up visit. No complications such as infection and aseptic loosening were detected. Conclusions: The implantation of a 3D-printed personalized prosthesis after proximal radial resection showed excellent oncologic outcomes and postoperative function at short-term follow-up and is a viable alternative method for reconstruction of the proximal radius bone defect after tumor resection.
Osteochondral allograft transplantation for complex distal humeral fractures assisted by 3D computer planning and printing technology: technical note

Abstract:Purpose: The surgical treatment of comminuted distal humeral articular fractures (DHF) is challenging and is jeopardized by the high rate of complications. The study aims to describe the application of osteochondral allograft (OCA) transplantation for the treatment of complex DHF assisted with a 3D printed specific instrumentation. Methods: Retrospective study. Inclusion criteria were the presence of an articular multi-fragmented DHF treated with frozen OCA. Clinical, self-reported and radiographic outcomes were collected every 6 months. CT were performed at 2 years FU. Results: Four patients were included. At a mean follow-up of 37.3 months (24-49) MEPS, DASH and VAS were 90 (80-100), 11.8 (0-25) and 1 (0-3) points, respectively. Not significant complication or reoperation was recorded. Graft healing was observed in 3 cases. In all cases, we observed arthritic progression after 2 years of follow-up. Conclusion: OCA transplantation can be considered a reliable and safe procedure in patients affected by a complex DHF. Level of evidence: Level V. Technical Notes.
3D Printing Combined with Osteotomy of the Lateral Tibial Condyle for the Treatment of Tibial Plateau Fractures Involving the Lateral Posterior Condyle

Abstract:The treatment of the fracture of the tibial plateau outside the posterior condyle is always a difficult problem in the clinical work of orthopedic surgeons. In this study, we aim to investigate the clinical effect of 3D printing combined with osteotomy of the tibial lateral condyle in the treatment of tibial plateau fractures involving the external posterior condyle. From January 2012 to February 2020, the data of 94 patients with fracture of tibial plateau external posterior condyle treated by 3D printing combined with osteotomy were retrospectively analyzed, including 38 males and 56 females. The 94 patients were divided into 2 groups (freehand osteotomy group and guided osteotomy group), with 47 patients in each group. All patients received preoperative CT 3D scan, and 3D printing was performed according to the converted data to make a 1 : 1 solid size fracture model. Two groups of patients were treated with anterolateral combined with posteromedial incision intraoperatively, and osteotomy lines were designed according to preoperative 3D model. After surgery, the fracture reduction was evaluated according to the Rasmussen knee scoring standard, and the knee function was evaluated by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score. One year after operation, the Rasmussen score of the knee joint was 13-18 points, with an average of 15.73 points, among which 66 cases were excellent, 24 cases were good, and 4 cases were fair, with an excellent and good rate of 95.7% (45/47). The HSS score is as follows: 67-94 points, with an average of 82.67 points, among which 62 cases were excellent, 26 cases were good, 4 cases were fair, and 2 cases were poor (joint stiffness caused by refusal of postoperative rehabilitation exercise), with an excellent and good rate of 89.9% (44/47). The range of motion of knee joint was -5°~0°~135°, and the average range of motion was 125.5°. At the last follow-up, there were no serious complications such as common peroneal nerve injury, popliteal vascular injury, postoperative infection, and failure of internal fixation. 3D printing combined with osteotomy of the tibial lateral condyle is an effective method for the treatment of fractures of the tibial plateau external posterior condyle, and the postoperative treatment results are satisfactory. The customized osteotomy guide plate is used for more accurate osteotomy, less injury, and more accurate fixation with support screws.
Treatment of Congenital Proximal Radioulnar Synostosis Using Pedicle Posterior Interosseous Perforator Adipofascial Flaps

Abstract:Objective To present the clinical result of a procedure using pedicle posterior interosseous perforator adipofascial flaps for the treatment of congenital proximal radioulnar synostosis (CPRUS). Methods Eight forearms (from eight patients) with CPRUS were treated by the operation during December 2013 to January 2018 at Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. The average age of the children are seven years old (range: five years old to twelve years old). There were six boys and two girls. Seven forearms were classified as the Cleary type Ⅲ, and one forearm was classified as the Cleary type Ⅱ. Five children were suffered with bilateral CPRUS, and three children were unilateral. The average fixed forearm pronation angle was 43° (range: 0° to 80°). The operating procedure: a dorsal incision from olecranon to the distal 1/3 part of the middle axial of forearm was designed. Then the pedicle posterior interosseous perforator adipofascial flap was harvested. Elevated the anconeus muscle retrogradely, and the location of the osseous synostosis was exposed. Then the radial volar Henry incision just below the elbow joint crease was designed, the insertion part of the biceps brachii was exposed and elevated. The osseous synostosis was exposed and removed with the help of burr at the dorsal side. The cartilage part of the radial head was remolded. A trapeziform osteotomy was made at the site of radial tubercle due to the deformity angle of the radial shaft to reduce the dislocated radial head, then the distal and proximal part of radius was reduced and fixed with plate and screw. The pronator quadratus and the adipofascial flap were pulled to the volar side, and sutured to the deep fascia. The tendon of the biceps brachii was pulled dorsally and reattached to the radial tubercle. Postoperatively, an above-the-elbow splint was applied to keep the elbow in 90° of flexion and the forearm in 80° of supination. Three days later, the other splint was used to keep the forearm in 80° of pronation. Two splints were worn every other day alternatively. At four weeks after the operation, the ROM exercises were initiated both actively and passively, with the splints worn every other night alternatively. The splint was worn for six months. Results All patients received follow-up, the average duration of follow-up was 27 months (average: 6-48 months). The space of the proximal radioulnar joint could be seen clearly in seven patients, without the sign of recurrence of the synostosis. The synostosis was occurred in one child. Removed the synostosis part and the implant six months after operation, and placed an allograft tendon ball as the interposition tissue simultaneously. The problem was resolved successfully after that. Fingers extension weakness was happened in two patients, and recovered spontaneously and completely in three months. Limitation of elbow extension was occurred in two patients (range: 15° and 20°). The average pronation was 32.5° (range: 10°-65°), and the average supination was 31.9° (range: 10°-70°). Conclusions Using the perforator adipofascial flap pedicled with posterior interosseous vessels to treat the CPRUS is an easier method compared with classical Kanaya method . It could prevent the recurrence of synostosis effectively, and the treatment result is satisfied. The possibility of injury of the deep branch of radial nerve may be the potential problem. The Efficacy of 3D Printing Model in the Intraarticular Osteotomy in the Treatment of Malunion of Tibial Plateau Fracture

Abstract:Objectives: Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has shown potential advantages in accurate and efficient tibial plateau fracture (TPF) treatment. This technology can provide structural morphology to repair fracture fragments. Here, we summarize our experience with the use of 3D printing technology during intraarticular osteotomy in the treatment of the malunion of TPF. Methods: The patients who were treated with malunion of TPF in our hospital between January 2015 and December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. These patients were divided into two groups: the conventional group without 3D-printed model application and the 3D printing group with 3D-printed model application. All patients received the intraarticular osteotomy during operation, and we compared the operation time (min), fracture healing time (months), postoperative knee Rasmussen scores (0-30 points), knee mobility range (0-140°) (the independent t-test), fracture reduction evaluation (Biggi's method) (the chi-square test: Fisher's exact test), and postoperative complications of each group. Results: Twenty-six patients aged 18-65 years who underwent TPF revision operation were included in this study, including 18 patients in the conventional group, and eight patients in the 3D printing group. The follow-up time was 24-48 months, and the operation time was 185 min in the conventional group and 180 min in the 3D printing group. All patients received a bone union at the last follow-up. The healing time was 4.2 months in the conventional group and 3.75 months in the 3D printing group (p > 0.05). The respective postoperative Rasmussen scores were 24.6 and 26.2, and postoperative knee mobility was 103.5° and 118.5° in the conventional group and 3D printing group, respectively. Both the Rasmussen scores and degrees of mobility were significantly improved after surgery (p < 0.05), and the postoperative knee mobility was significantly better in the 3D printing group versus the conventional group (p < 0.05). Four patients still had a 2-mm collapse on the articular surface, and two patients still had slight valgus (<5°) in the conventional group. Only one case in the 3D printing group suffered from an articular surface collapse. Superficial wound infections occurred in two patients in the conventional group. Conclusion: The results show that 3D printing technology is an effective preoperative preparation in the treatment of TPF malunion. This technology can facilitate accurate preoperative planning to select the optimal surgical approach, plan the implant placement, visualize the screw trajectory, and anticipate possible intraoperative difficulties.

Abstract:Abstract Background Restoration of mobility of the elbow after post-traumatic elbow stiffening due to osteophytes is often a problem. Methods The anatomical structures were segmented within the CT-scan. Afterwards, the Multi Jet Fusion 3D-printing was applied to create the model made of biocompatible and steam-sterilizable plastic. Preoperative simulation of osteophyte resection at the 3D-model was performed as well as the direct comparison with the patient anatomy intraoperatively. Results The patient-specific was very helpful for the preoperative simulation of the resection of elbow osteophytes. The 3D anatomical representation improved the preoperative plan its implementation. A high degree of fidelity was found between the 3D Printed Anatomical representation and the actual joint pathology. Conclusions Arthrolysis of complex post-traumatic bony changes is an important indication for the use of 3D models for preoperative planning. Due to the use of 3D printing and software simulation, accurate resection planning is feasible and residual bony stiffening can be avoided. 3D printing models can lead to an improvement in surgical quality.

Abstract:Abstract In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the Abe’s mangrove goby Mugilogobius abei has been amplified. Mugilogobius abei is widely contributed species in Northeast to East Asia. The complete mitogenome is 16,483 base pairs (bp) in total length, had the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and 1 control region (CR). The overall base composition of M. abei is 27.7% for A, 27.0% for T, 28.6% for C, 16.7% for G, with higher AT content of 54.7%. This study will contribute for understanding the phylogenetic approach in genus Mugilogobius and related gobiid genera.

Abstract:Depositing multiple proteins on the same substrate in positions similar to the natural cellular environment is essential to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In this study, the development and verification of a multiprotein microcontact printing (μCP) technique is described. It is shown that patterns of multiple proteins can be created by the sequential printing of proteins with micrometer precision in registration using an inverted microscope. Soft polymeric stamps were fabricated and mounted on a microscope stage while the substrate to be stamped was placed on a microscope objective and kept at its focal distance. This geometry allowed for visualization of patterns during the multiple stamping events and facilitated the alignment of multiple stamped patterns. Astrocytes were cultured over stamped lane patterns and were seen to interact and align with the underlying protein patterns.
