Abstract:Objective: Pinhole single-photon emission computed tomography provides superior trade-off between resolution and detection efficiency as compared with conventional parallel-hole collimators for imaging small objects. This study aims to design and evaluate an optimized adaptive multipinhole (MPH) collimator for improved clinical myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography imaging (MPI) and preclinical small-animal imaging (SAI) of rats based on a clinical scanner. Methods: The target resolution and field of view was set to be 1/20 cm for MPI and 0.15/5 cm for SAI, respectively. We determined the design parameters by maximizing the detection efficiency based on system constraints. Point source simulations using Geant4 Application for Emission Tomography were performed for different collimator-to-center of field of view distances to assess the detection efficiency and resolution trade-off. The XCAT phantom with Tc-99m sestamibi distribution and the four-dimensional mouse whole-body phantom with Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate distribution were used to generate noise-free and noisy projections using a three-dimensional analytical MPH projector. Projections were reconstructed using a three-dimensional MPH ordered-subset expectation maximization algorithm. Noise and bias were assessed on the reconstructed images for different collimators. Results: The design parameters are (i) 14 pinholes with 3.42 mm aperture size, 14.5 cm collimator-to-detector distance for MPI; (ii) six pinholes with an aperture size of 0.94 mm, 21.2 cm collimator-to-detector distance for SAI. For MPI, the projected full width at half maximum values were 10.68 and 8.19 mm for low energy high resolution (LEHR) and MPH, respectively, whereas MPH had double detection efficiency. For SAI, the projected full width at half maximum values for LEHR and MPH were 4.93 and 1.20 mm, respectively, whereas the detection efficiency of MPH showed 17.5% improvement as compared with LEHR. The noise-bias trade-off improved for MPH as compared with LEHR for both MPI and SAI. The proposed collimator will have adjustable collimator-to-detector distances - that is, 14.5 cm for MPI and 21.2 cm for SAI. Conclusion: The new collimator yields substantial improvement in image quality as compared with current MPI using LEHR with extra capability for SAI, bridging the clinical and preclinical imaging based on the same platform.

Abstract:The collimator in single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), is an important part of the imaging chain. One of the most important collimators that used in research, preclinical study, small animal, and organ imaging is the pinhole collimator. Pinhole collimator can improve the tradeoff between sensitivity and resolution in comparison with conventional parallel-hole collimator and facilities diagnosis. However, a major problem with pinhole collimator is a small field of view (FOV). Multi-pinhole collimator has been investigated in order to increase the sensitivity and FOV with a preserved spatial resolution. The geometry of pinhole and multi-pinhole collimators is a critical factor in the image quality and plays a key role in SPECT imaging. The issue of the material and geometry for pinhole and multi-pinhole collimators have been a controversial and much disputed subject within the field of SPECT imaging. On the other hand, recent developments in collimator optimization have heightened the need for appropriate reconstruction algorithms for pinhole SPECT imaging. Therefore, iterative reconstruction algorithms were introduced to minimize the undesirable effect on image quality. Current researches have focused on geometry and configuration of pinhole and multi-pinhole collimation rather than reconstruction algorithm. The lofthole and multi-lofthole collimator are samples of novel designs. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review on recent researches in the pinhole and multi-pinhole collimators for SPECT imaging.

Abstract:Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) has been a mainstay of nuclear medicine practice for several decades. More recently, combining the functional imaging available with SPECT and the anatomic imaging of computed tomography (CT) has gained more acceptance and proved useful in many clinical situations. Most vendors now offer integrated SPECT/CT systems that can perform both functions on one gantry and provide fused functional and anatomic data in a single imaging session. In addition to allowing anatomic localization of nuclear imaging findings, SPECT/CT also enables accurate and rapid attenuation correction of SPECT studies. These attributes have proved useful in many cardiac, general nuclear medicine, oncologic, and neurologic applications in which the SPECT results alone were inconclusive. Optimal clinical use of this rapidly emerging imaging modality requires an understanding of the fundamental principles of SPECT/CT, including quality control issues as well as potential pitfalls and limitations. The long-term clinical and economic effects of this technology have yet to be established.

Multi-pinhole collimator design in different numbers of projections for brain SPECT

Abstract:Purpose: High resolution and sensitivity brain SPECT is promising for the accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Multi-pinhole (MPH) collimators with a good performance in imaging small field-of-view (FOV) could be better used for brain SPECT. In this study, we aim to evaluate the impact of varying the number of pinholes and the number of projections on the performance of MPH brain SPECT. Methods: The system design was based on a commercial clinical dual-head SPECT/CT scanner, with target spatial resolutions of 12 mm and 8 mm for AD and PD SPECT, respectively. In total, 1-25 pinholes were modeled for 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, and 2 projections. The 3D NURBS-based HUman Brain (NHUB) phantom was used in the analytical simulation to model 99mTc-HMPAO and 99mTc-TRODAT distributions. The 2D Derenzo hot-rod phantom and star phantom were used in Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the spatial resolution and angular sampling performance of MPH. The influence of different detector positions was also evaluated for 2, 4, and 6 angular views. The projections were reconstructed using the 3D MPH ML-EM method. Normalized mean square error, coefficient of variation, and image profiles were evaluated. Results: Along with the decrease in the number of projections, more pinholes are required to achieve the optimum performance. For 32 projections, 9- and 7-pinhole collimators provide the best normalized mean square error (NMSE) to the coefficient of variation (COV) trade-off for 99mTc-HMPAO and 99mTc-TRODAT, respectively. Detector positions substantially affect the image quality for MPH SPECT for 2 and 4 angular views. The smallest rod size for the Derenzo hot-rod phantom, which could be resolved, is 7.9 mm for the MPH general purpose collimator (MPGP) with more than 16 projections and 6.4 mm for MPH high-resolution collimator (MPHR) with more than 8 projections. Conclusion: The number of pinholes affects the performance of the MPH collimator, especially when the projection views become fewer. More pinholes are required for fewer projections to provide better angular sampling in MPH for complex activity distributions. Detector positions affect the image quality of MPH SPECT for 2 and 4 angular views, where L-mode acquisition is slightly superior to H-mode. MPH collimators exhibited improved spatial resolution and angular sampling compared with both LEHR and single pinhole collimators.
A Novel Technology of Multi-pinhole SPECT for Human Myocardial Perfusion Imaging

Abstract:A novel technology of multi-pinhole (MPH) SPECT for human myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) by increasing angular sampling. In this study, the efficiency of MPH SPECT is 0.06%, four-fold higher than Dual-detector LEHR SPECT (typically 0.015%), we acquired projection data of patient MPI for rest and exercise with 12-pinhole collimator and Siemens Symbia T16. There are two cases for MPH SPECT scan in V mode: one view from -170°of main turning device, two views from -170°and -135°. Acquisition time of MPH SPECT was 5 minutes for single and dual angles, and the acquisition of Siemens was 15 minutes. MPH calibration is essential to generate system transfer matrix, which will be employed to iterative reconstruction. Projection data were reconstructed with a Pixel-based Ordered Subset-expectation Maximization (POSEM) reconstruction algorithm. Reconstructed results showed that dual-angle imaging results have better uniformity than single-angle imaging, and MPH SPECT has higher spatial resolution than Siemens Symbia T16 with reduced acquisition time. The short acquisition time of MPH can increase SPECT throughput and reduces the possibility of artifacts due to patient movement. More clinical trial for MPH dual angular sampling performance evaluation will be carried out.
Review of SPECT collimator selection, optimization, and fabrication for clinical and preclinical imaging

Abstract:In single photon emission computed tomography, the choice of the collimator has a major impact on the sensitivity and resolution of the system. Traditional parallel-hole and fan-beam collimators used in clinical practice, for example, have a relatively poor sensitivity and subcentimeter spatial resolution, while in small-animal imaging, pinhole collimators are used to obtain submillimeter resolution and multiple pinholes are often combined to increase sensitivity. This paper reviews methods for production, sensitivity maximization, and task-based optimization of collimation for both clinical and preclinical imaging applications. New opportunities for improved collimation are now arising primarily because of (i) new collimator-production techniques and (ii) detectors with improved intrinsic spatial resolution that have recently become available. These new technologies are expected to impact the design of collimators in the future. The authors also discuss concepts like septal penetration, high-resolution applications, multiplexing, sampling completeness, and adaptive systems, and the authors conclude with an example of an optimization study for a parallel-hole, fan-beam, cone-beam, and multiple-pinhole collimator for different applications.

Abstract:Multi-pinhole (MPH) collimators are known to provide better trade-off between sensitivity and resolution for preclinical, as well as for smaller regions in clinical SPECT imaging compared to conventional collimators. In addition to this geometric advantage, MPH plates typically offer better stopping power for penetration than the conventional collimators, which is especially relevant for I-123 imaging. The I-123 emits a series of high-energy (>300 keV, ~2.5% abundance) gamma photons in addition to the primary emission (159 keV, 83% abundance). Despite their low abundance, high-energy photons penetrate through a low-energy parallel-hole (LEHR) collimator much more readily than the 159 keV photons, resulting in large downscatter in the photopeak window. In this work, we investigate the primary, scatter, and penetration characteristics of a single pinhole collimator that is commonly used for I-123 thyroid imaging and our two MPH collimators designed for I-123 DaTscan imaging for Parkinson's Disease, in comparison to three different parallel-hole collimators through a series of experiments and Monte Carlo simulations. The simulations of a point source and a digital human phantom with DaTscan activity distribution showed that our MPH collimators provide superior count performance in terms of high primary counts, low penetration, and low scatter counts compared to the parallel-hole and single pinhole collimators. For example, total scatter, multiple scatter, and collimator penetration events for the LEHR were 2.5, 7.6 and 14 times more than that of MPH within the 15% photopeak window. The total scatter fraction for LEHR was 56% where the largest contribution came from the high-energy scatter from the back compartments (31%). For the same energy window, the total scatter for MPH was 21% with only 1% scatter from the back compartments. We therefore anticipate that using MPH collimators, higher quality reconstructions can be obtained in a substantially shorter acquisition time for I-123 DaTscan and thyroid imaging.

Abstract:In this work, the performance of a novel multi-pinhole SPECT (MPH SPECT) system based on Insight NM/CT Pro (Beijing Novel Medical Equipment Ltd) was evaluated. The sensitivity, spatial resolution, and quantitative accuracy of the MPH system were evaluated in conjunction with the methods in NEMA NU 1-2018. In addition, the performance of MPH in myocardial perfusion imaging was validated by phantom study and clinical study. The average sensitivity of MPH SPECT at the center, half, and edges of field of view (FOV) were 510 count s(-1) MBq(-1) (cps/MBq), 490 +/- 85 cps/MBq and 540 +/- 170 cps/MBq, respectively; the spatial resolution is about 6.5 +/- 0.7 mm, 6.4 +/- 0.8 mm, and 5.4 +/- 0.4 mm for X, Y, and Z axes, respectively; the quantitative accuracy is superior to the conventional SPECT with low-energy high-resolution collimator (LEHR SPECT). The images of the phantom study and clinical study demonstrated the MPH SPECT can take only 5 minutes to obtain myocardial images with high image quality.

Abstract:A small-animal imaging system suitable for SPECT imaging and multipinhole standard/helical SPECT has been designed and constructed. Copper-beryllium parallel-hole collimators suitable for imaging the ~35 keV photons from the decay of125I have been built and installed to achieve better spatial resolution and to reduce imaging time on our dual-detector array. To further address the limitations in the resolution of parallel-hole SPECT and the sensitivity and limited field of view of single-pinhole SPECT, we have incorporated multipinhole circular/helical SPECT in addition to expanding parallel-hole SPECT capabilities. The pinhole SPECT system is based on a 110 mm circular detector equipped with pixellated NaI(Tl) scintillator (1×1×5mm3/pixel). The helical trajectory is accomplished by two stepping motors controlling the rotation of the detector-support gantry and displacement of the animal bed along the axis of rotation of the gantry. Results obtained in SPECT studies of various phantoms show an enlarged field of view, enhanced resolution and improved sensitivity over our earlier results. In particular, improved reconstructed resolution is obtained with the helical pinhole SPECT. Pinhole collimators with one, three and five 1 mm diameter pinholes have been used in these tests. Spatial resolution of 1.26 mm, 1.43 mm and 1.55 mm have been obtained respectively with those collimators.

Abstract:In order to develop animal SPECT imaging technology on clinical SPECT scanners, we propose a highly flexible multi-pinhole collimator design scheme. The proposed design allows individual adjustment of important system parameters, so that the collimator device is adaptable to various SPECT systems, and one can also optimize different specific aspects of system performance (e.g. improving spatial resolution, maximizing sensitivity or increasing FOV) for different application purposes. This work is focused on achieving half-mm SPECT imaging resolution on a single-head clinical SPECT scanner. A seven-pinhole collimator and a four-degree-of-freedom motion control stage are assembled. High accuracy geometrical calibration is performed by scanning a point source in a hybrid orbit, which consists of three circular orbits in different axial positions and a helical orbit. The system matrix is derived from Monte-Carlo simulation and de-noised by fitting each point spread function (PSF) to a 2D Gaussian function. Dual-point-source studies show that 0.5 mm reconstruction resolution is achievable in the studied system. Preliminary ultra micro hot rod phantom experiments demonstrate 0.6 mm hot rods are identifiable clearly. The proposed technology is attractable for its low cost, high flexibility, high feasibility and reproducibility.

Abstract:ObjectiveAlmost all small animal SPECT is performed with pinhole collimators (PH), including single-PH (SPH) and multi-PH (MPH). In the clinical study, not only PH but also parallel-hole collimator (PAH) is often used in planar and SPECT imaging. However, there have been no comparative studies on image quality with various collimators on the small animal imaging. This study compared the basic characteristics of PH and PAH in small animal imaging.MethodsPerformance of planar and SPECT images was evaluated using 99mTcO4− and SPH, MPH and PAH with low energy and high resolution on the SPECT/CT scanner FX3200. We measured sensitivity, resolution, concentration linearity and uniformity. Planar imaging of mice with 99mTc-labeled mercaptoacetyltriglycine (99mTc-MAG3) was performed using SPH and PAH. SPECT imaging with 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) was performed using all collimators.ResultsWith SPH, MPH and PAH, sensitivity was 43.5, 211.2 and 926.5 cps/MBq, respectively, and spatial resolution was 0.60/0.56, non/0.96, 5.20/5.34 mm full-width half maximum (planar/SPECT), respectively. There were marked correlations between the radioactivity counts on images and radioactivity with all collimators. Values of % standard deviation on planar imaging showed small differences between the SPH and PAH, while the values were the smallest on SPECT imaging with MPH. On imaging of mice, SPH yielded high-quality 99mTc-MAG3-planar images when compared with PAH. MPH yielded sharper 99mTc-MDP-SPECT images than SPH and PAH.ConclusionsThe characteristics of PH and PAH differed on small animal imaging. Although sensitivity was higher with PAH, PH showed higher resolution. Among the PH collimators, SPH was more appropriate for planar imaging, and MPH was more suitable for SPECT imaging in a small animal imaging scanner with CZT detector.

Dedicated Cardiac Spect Imaging with Multi-Pinhole Collimators on A Clinical Scanner

Abstract:1951 Objectives Cardiac imaging with parallel-hole SPECT has suffered from low resolution and sensitivity. This work aimed to develop dedicated cardiac imaging functionality on a clinical scanner with high resolution and sensitivity. Methods Our dedicated cardiac SPECT imaging was based on a clinical dual-head SPECT scanner. Two NaI(Tl) SPECT detector heads were placed in 90 degree setup. Conventional parallel-hole collimators were replaced with well-designed multi-pinhole collimators. All the pinholes focused on the heart region without projection overlap. Collimator parameters were optimized with an exhaustive searching method to maximize sensitivity at fixed resolution. The pinhole numbers were 16 and 20 respectively for top detector and side detector heads. The optimized pinhole diameter was 4.1 mm and 3.4 mm respectively. SPECT projection data were acquired in stationary imaging mode. Accurate geometry calibration was performed by scanning a point source at 108 positions with known relative distance. Maximum likelihood expectation maximization (MLEM) iterative algorithm with a pre-stored system matrix was developed for SPECT image reconstruction. The image voxel size was 4.0 x 4.0 x 4.0 mm3. To improve image quality, the system matrix was calculated using a finer voxel grid (0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 mm3 step). Pinhole geometric model was calculated through ray-tracing. Three experiments were conducted to evaluate imaging performance. 1) A 4.6 mCi 99mTc point source was scanned across the field of view (FOV) to calculate average sensitivity. 2) Two point sources at 1 cm distance was imaged to evaluate system spatial resolution. 3) A heart phantom with myocardium defect (2 cm in length), injected by 10 mCi 99mTc, was scanned for 5 s, 15 s and 5 min and were reconstructed with 200 iterations. For comparison, the same phantom was also scanned for 30 min by mounting low-energy high-resolution (LEHR) parallel-hole collimator on SPECT heads. Sixty projections were acquired and data were reconstructed with ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) iterative algorithm using 6 subsets and 4 iterations. Results The average sensitivity across the ~14 cm FOV was 0.03%, higher than dual-head LEHR SPECT (typically 0.015%). Two point sources with 1 cm distance were distinguishable in reconstructed image. Full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the point source was 6.4 x 7.5 x 7.0 mm3, which also showed the spatial resolution was much better than LEHR SPECT system (~8 mm). The total counts of 5 s, 15 s and 5 min scan were about 3e5, 1e6 and 2e7 respectively. Reasonable myocardium phantom images without prominent artifact could be acquired with 5 min scan. Compared with the LEHR SPECT image, dedicated cardiac SPECT showed superior spatial resolution and defect identification capability. In low count studies, the 15 s scan and 5 s scan images showed increased noise and reduced boundary visualization, but were still better than LEHR SPECT image in terms of defect identification. Conclusions Our dedicated cardiac SPECT imaging method was demonstrated to be feasible for cardiac imaging with high resolution and sensitivity compared with conventional parallel-hole SPECT. Performance Evaluation of Stationary Dedicated Cardiac SPECT with Multi-Pinhole Collimators: Comparison with Conventional SPECT and CZT SPECT

Abstract:513 Objectives: The conventional low-energy high-resolution (LEHR) parallel-hole SPECT for nuclear cardiac imaging suffered from low sensitivity and spatial resolution. We designed and implemented a high sensitivity dedicated cardiac multi-pinhole collimator, which is capability for dynamic studies, based on the clinical variable-angle dual-head SPECT ImageE NET 632. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the performance of this multi-pinhole cardiac SPECT system (MP-SPECT). Methods Two SPECT detector heads were placed in 76 degree setup. Conventional parallel-hole collimators were replaced with the multi-pinhole collimators. Each collimator had twelve 4.5 mm tungsten pinholes and all the pinholes focused on the heart region without projection overlap. Five separate and parallel line sources phantom, injected by 2 mCi 99mTc, was scanned for 5 min and reconstructed with 80 MLEM iterations. The average FWHM in transversal image for each line was calculated and used to evaluate the spatial resolution. The volume sensitivity per axial centimeter (VSAC) was measured according to NEMA NU1-2012 with a scaled phantom. A heart phantom with two myocardium defects (2 cm and 1.5 cm in length), injected by 2 mCi 99mTc, was scanned for 5 min and reconstructed with 80 iterations. Two patients with suspicious of coronary heart disease were carried out MP-SPECT (5min) and reconstructed with 80 MLEM iterations. As compared, the patients also underwent MPS imaging on LEHR-SPECT BrightView XCT (15min), D-SPECT (5min) and Discovery NM 530c (5min) according to standard 1-day stress protocol. The reconstruction images were compared. Results The reconstruction spatial resolution (average FWHM of line sources) is 6.0 mm, better than LEHR SPECT (~14 mm). The measured VSAC is 92 s-1/(kBq[asterisk]cm2), about four times higher than LEHR SPECT typically 20 s-1/(kBq[asterisk]cm2 ). Reconstruction image of heart phantom was shown in Figure 1. The shape of myocardium was well reconstructed and both the two defects could be identified clearly. The results of patients study were shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3. Visually, the spatial resolution of MP-SPECT was better than LEHR-SPECT (Figure 2) and comparable to CZE SPECT (Figure 2). Conclusions The proposed MP-SPECT system has higher sensitivity and better spatial resolution than conventional LEHR-SPECT. The myocardial perfusion scans can be carried out without rotation and within 5 min. The heart phantom study show good defect identification and the patients study show that the image quality of MP-SPECT is better than LEHR-SPECT and comparable to commercial dedicated cardiac CZT SPECT.

Abstract:In this study, we design a stationary multi-pinhole SPECT collimator inserted to a small animal PET scanner and investigate the feasibility of SPECT imaging in this system with Monte Carlo simulation studies. Compared to preceding approaches, the unique aspect of the proposed design is that it enables SPECT imaging only by axial translation of the imaging object to obtain sufficient angular sampling, rather than rotation of either the object or the collimator. This reduces the difficulty of geometrical calibration and facilitates accurate system matrix derivation. In order to minimize the axial overlap, the transverse section of the pinhole is designed to be elliptical. The sampling completeness of different scanning orbits is studied by a numerical approach based on Tuy sampling criteria. Results show that in the reconstruction images of a simulated Derenzo phantom, 1.35 mm hot rods are distinguishable. Image quality with only object translation is comparable to those with both object translation and rotation. A practical calibration method of the system geometrical parameters is developed and tested with simulation data. Finally, we incorporate the TV prior in OS-EM algorithm and the reconstruction results show the noise is efficiently suppressed. We conclude that we present a practical way to implement SPECT imaging on existing PET scanner without object or collimator rotation and desired spatial resolution is achievable with this design.
Feasibility Studies of a High Sensitivity, Stationary Dedicated Cardiac SPECT with Multi-Pinhole Collimators on a Clinical Dual-Head Scanner

Abstract:In this study we proposed a novel design of the stationary multi-pinhole dedicated cardiac SPECT based on clinical dual-head scanner with high sensitivity and low cost for nuclear medicine myocardial perfusion imaging. The efficacy of proposed collimator design was confirmed by analytically calculating the sensitivity map of field of view (FOV) and the average resolution map weighted by each pinhole's sensitivity. We measured the spatial resolution and sensitivity of the proposed SPECT and low energy high resolution (LEHR) parallel-hole SPECT at central point with the same distance from the collimator with Monte Carlo simulation. A multi-pinhole MLEM reconstruction algorithm was developed with detector response and analytical pinhole projection model. The analytical projection of point source with delta model and pinhole projection model was compared with simulated projection by Gate. We simulated and reconstructed projections of two point with different location with no rotation, one step rotation and two step rotation and one uniform ellipsoid phantom, which covered the heart region. Analytically, the sensitivity was increased to 0.04% and average resolution was about 10 mm inside most of heart regions. The reconstruction spatial resolution of central point was 38% poorer than LEHR SPECT, while the sensitivity was increased by 10-fold, which was consistent with the analytical results. The comparison between the several pinholes' projection calculated with delta model, pinhole analytical model and simulation showed the pinhole analytical model agreed with the simulation in shape, especially when in oblique incidence. The reconstruction results of point source without rotation showed slight deformation on certain point source location. In contrast, with rotation, the deformation was suppressed and resolution was similar. However there was no significant difference in one step and two step rotation. The ellipsoid phantom reconstruction showed the imaging quality of the proposed SPECT although with the expected artifact outside FOV. In conclusion, our initial results demonstrated the feasibility of high sensitivity imaging with proposed stationary multi-pinhole dedicated cardiac SPECT.

Abstract:The existing SPECT system for nuclear cardiac imaging suffered from low sensitivity or high cost. In this study we implemented a novel design of the stationary dedicated cardiac SPECT combined with multi-pinhole collimators based on the clinical dual-head scanner with low cost. Previous simulation study has demonstrated the feasibility of the design.Accurate geometry calibration was implemented for image reconstruction. The projection of a 2-mm-diameter sphere source, which was mounted on patient bed and moved through three certain gridding scanning orbits, was acquired for calibration. The geometrical parameters were estimated by fitting the experimental projection centroids to the geometrical model. The reconstruction adopted MLEM algorithm with GPU parallelization based on CUDA. Considering the impact of large pinhole size on image reconstruction, two analytical pinhole models (sampling pinhole model and dual-section Gaussian model) were proposed to derive the system matrix on the fly during reconstruction. The sphere source projection of one view was reconstructed with the two analytical pinhole models and delta model. The reconstruction results of different views' projection were compared. Furthermore, the myocardium phantom study in comparison with parallel-hole SPECT has been performed to evaluate the system.With geometrical calibration, the reasonable reconstruction images were achieved with 10.6 x 12.9 x 9.6 mm(3) spatial resolution (FWHM). Analytical pinhole models improved the spatial resolution to 6.8 x 8.0 x 7.2 mm(3) and suppressed the deformation while dual-section Gaussian model were slightly better than sampling pinhole model. There was no significant difference between the reconstruction images with one view's and three views' projection, which indicated the stationary imaging property of the SPECT system. Myocardium phantom study demonstrated the superior performance and better defect identification of our proposed SPECT than parallel-hole SPECT.In conclusion, our initial results showed the reasonable images could be achieved on the proposed stationary multi-pinhole dedicated cardiac SPECT. In the future work, more phantom and in vivo experiments would be implemented to evaluate the dedicated cardiac SPECT system.
