Abstract:An all-normal dispersion tunable mode-locked fiber laser with a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror is experimentally investigated. The laser employs an all-polarization-maintaining figure-8 cavity consisted of main loop and nonlinear amplifying loop mirror. At 1030 nm, the stable mode-locked laser is initiated by adjusting two loops' pump power, which delivers pulse width of 17.61 ps, repetition frequency of 4.133 MHz, and average power of 2.151 mW. A tunable filter is employed in the cavity to select the laser wavelength as well as force the laser operating in all-normal dispersion dissipative regime. The wavelength tuning range is 1015-1080 nm while the pulse duration ranges from 7.86 ps to 17.80 ps.

Abstract:This A novel 3-channel single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) tunable erbium-doped fiber laser with sub-ring cavities based on a digital Opto-digital-micro-mirror device (Opto-DMD) processor is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. 3-channel tunable SLM lasing were obtained simultaneously by means of the Opto-DMD processor without any mechanically shift, which is the unique feature and innovative point of 3-channel laser. The DMD processor can select and couple any waveband from the gain spectrum of the EDFA into the main fiber ring, which can guarantee the multiple-channels laser output. Different short passive sub-ring cavities are inserted into the main ring cavity for each channel and serve as mode filters, to make SLM lasing. The experimental results demonstrate the side-mode-suppression-ration (SMSR) is about ~40 dB, and the output power is more than ~9.5 dBm in the operating range. The center wavelength and power fluctuations are below ~0.025 nm and ~0.06 dBm, respectively.

Abstract:Mode-locked Yb-doped fiber lasers around 1 μm are attractive for high power applications and low noise pulse train generation. Mode-locked fiber lasers working in soliton and stretched-pulse regime outperform others in terms of the laser noise characteristics, mechanical stability and easy maintenance. However, conventional optical fibers always show a normal group velocity dispersion around 1 μm, leading to the inconvenience for necessary dispersion management. Here we show that optical microfibers having a large anomalous dispersion around 1 μm can be integrated into mode-locked Yb-doped fiber lasers with ultralow insertion loss down to −0.06 dB, enabling convenient dispersion management of the laser cavity. Besides, optical microfibers could also be adopted to spectrally broaden and to dechirp the ultrashort pulses outside the laser cavity, giving rise to a pulse duration of about 110 fs. We believe that this demonstration may facilitate all-fiber format high-performance ultrashort pulse generation at 1 μm and may find applications in precision measurements, large-scale facility synchronization and evanescent-field-based optical sensing.

Abstract:We report a single-wavelength tunable mode-locked fiber laser. The single wavelength can be tuned from 1537.49 nm to 1608.06 nm by introducing a Sagnac loop filter. As far as we know, this is the widest single-wavelength tuning range achieved in an erbium-doped mode-locked all-fiber laser based on nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM). The laser's pulse width changes from 549 fs to 808 fs throughout the tuning process, the maximum average output power is 5.72 mW, and the single-pulse energy is 0.34 nJ at a central wavelength of 1556.53 nm. This laser source can serve as an efficient tool for applications that require a broad tunability range. The combination of femtosecond pulses and extensive wavelength tuning capabilities makes this laser system highly valuable in fields such as fiber optic communications, spectroscopy, sensing, and other applications that benefit from ultrafast and tunable laser sources.

Abstract:We report on the formation of the nanosecond pulse in an erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked with a molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2)-deposited microfiber. The evolution of the pulse states from slightly chirped picosecond pulse to highly chirped nanosecond pulse was observed. As the pump power increases to a certain value, the picosecond pulse abruptly transforms into nanosecond pulse with the pulse duration of 70 ns and the maximum pulse energy of 21 nJ at the fundamental repetition rate of 3.54 MHz. With the advantages of high pulse energy, large pulse duration, and low peak power, the nanosecond pulse could be destined for amplification and compression to achieve high-power applications promisingly.

Abstract:To improve the environmental stability and self-starting ability, researchers have developed the nonlinear optical-loop mirror and nonlinear amplifying-loop mirror (NALM) mode-locking technologies. The developing process of these technologies can be summarized as the following three phases: non-polarization-maintaining (PM) structures with polarization controllers, PM figure-of-8 cavity structures with dual-gain, and PM figure-of-9 cavity structures with a phase shifter. Among these, the newly invented figure-of-9 NALM mode-locked fiber laser is particularly advantageous owing to its easy self-starting ability, long-term stability, concise structure, and cost-effectiveness. Such a mode-locked fiber laser is increasingly employed in applications such as optical frequency combs, generation of THz radiation, and advanced material micromachining.

Abstract:We report an Er-doped fiber laser based on a hybrid mode-locked mechanism, which include a graded-index multimode fiber as a saturable absorber (SA) and nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). By adopting two distinct mechanisms simultaneously, the laser can output shorter pulses with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and low noise jitter. At a pump power of 110 mW, a mode-locked pulse train with a pulse duration of 1.8 ps and a repetition rate of 49.80 MHz is generated. Compared with the implementation of the NPR mode-locked mechanism alone, the implementation of the hybrid mode-locked mechanism increased the SNR of the laser from 44 dB to 70 dB. The standard deviation of the average power fluctuation is 1.53%. Besides, a stable harmonic mode-locked pulse train can be obtained and switched by merely adjusting the pump power.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a tunable and switchable low-threshold multi-wavelength erbiumdoped fiber pulsed laser. It is based on a composite structure of Lyot filter and nonlinear optical loop mirror. At a threshold of 30 mW, single-wavelength and dual-wavelength states can be obtained with a tuning range of 5 nm for the single wavelength and 1 nm for the dual wavelength. By adjusting the pump power and polarization controllers, the laser can achieve at most eightuple-wavelength operation. We use the nonlinear optical loop mirror as a saturable absorber to realize stable pulse output. The pulse sequences begin to appear when the pump power is 100 mW. The pulse repetition rate corresponding to the dual-wavelength is 40.52 kHz, and the pulse width is 144 ns. Due to its abundant range of wavelengths and significant pulse phenomenon, the proposed laser is widely used in fiber sensing and other fields.

Abstract:Ultrashort pulse lasers have the characteristics of narrow output pulse width, high peak power and wide spectrum, and are widely used in precision manufacturing, biomedical, quantum communication, national defense and military. In actual production and life, the wavelength tuning and switching of mode-locked fiber lasers have important applications. In this paper, we demonstrate a wavelength-tunable mode-locked fiber laser, which is a mode-locked ytterbium fiber laser working at 10.84MHz, and achieves wavelength-tuned output in the range of 1017~1029nm by adding tunable devices. This tunable and short pulse all-fiber laser has the advantages of simple structure, easy tuning, and good stability, and has a wide range of application prospects.

Abstract:We demonstrate a low repetition rate mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser using an all-polarization-maintaining (PM) nonlinear amplifying loop mirror. Stable single pulse generation had a pulse energy of 4 nJ and a repetition rate as low as 1.96 MHz. A section of standard single mode PM fiber was used to compress the output pulses from 2.5 ps down to 660 fs, being nearly transform-limited. The robust mode-locking design and all-PM cavity make this fiber laser stable and compact. The output average power fluctuation is within 0.17% over 10 h. Therefore, this source is ideally suitable for high pulse energy applications, such as micro-machining and nonlinear microscopy through further amplification.

The aim of this research is to improve the laser stability by inserting a Lyot filter into the mode-locked laser cavity. The experimental results indicate that the mode-locked state can be maintained when the radius of the fiber loop is changed from 7.5 to 1.5 cm, while the signal-to-noise ratio of the fundamental frequency remains almost the same. The tunability of the output power can be achieved by adding a half-wave plate (HWP) in the laser cavity without changing the pump power, while the mode-locked state remains stable. By adjusting the angle of the HWP2, the output power can be adjusted from 3.36 to 66.5 mW at repetition rate of 29.7 MHz.

Abstract:We demonstrate a novel approach to achieve wavelength-tunable ultrashort pulses from an all-fiber mode-locked laser with a saturable absorber based on nonlinear Kerr beam clean-up effect. This saturable absorber was formed by a single-mode fiber spliced to a graded-index multimode fiber, and its tunable band-pass filter effect is studied by a numerical model. By adjusting the bending condition of graded-index multimode fiber, the laser could produce dissipative soliton pulses with their central wavelength tunable from1040 nm to 1063 nm. The pulse width of output laser could be compressed externally to 791 fs, and the signal to noise ratio of its radio frequency spectrum was measured to be 75.5 dB. This work provides a new idea for the design of wavelength-tunable mode-locked laser which can be used as an attractive light source in communication system.

Abstract:We report on an environmentally stable mode-locked all polarization maintaining fiber laser with a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) at a ultralow repetition rate. Experimentally, using different cavity lengths we have achieved stable mode-locking at different repetition rates. By carefully adjusting the length of the total fiber of NALM, we achieve stable broadband pulse trains with a repetition rate as low as 140 kHz. The pulses can be further amplified up to 27 mu J and compressed down to 1.16 ps. The laser system has potential application for industrial application.

Abstract:A stable three-channel dual-wavelength fiber ring laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The digital micromirror-device(DMD) processor can select and recirculate any dual waveband from the gain spectrum of the erbium-doped fiber at each channel. The uniform and stable dual-wavelength oscillation is obtained by a highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber, which causes two degenerate the four-wave-mixing processes. By loading different reproducibility diffraction gratings on the optoelectronic DMD processor, the laser can be operated stably in a three-channel dual-wavelength scheme at room temperature. The power fluctuation of each laser channel is less than ～0.02 d B.

Abstract:Abstract Mode-locked fiber lasers can generate short pulses with a high repetition rate. It can be used in nonlinear optical imaging, photo-communication and other fields. Obtaining narrow pulses with high repetition frequency has become a hot research topic. In this article, we demonstrate a hybrid mode-locked fiber laser, which is a regeneratively mode-locked erbium fiber laser operating at 10 GHz, incorporating a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror to generate a 1.9 ps pulse sequence. This all-fiber laser with a high-repetition-rate and short pulses has the advantages of high stability and self-starting, which has a wide range of applications.

Abstract:A passively mode-locked fiber laser with a 1.03 GHz fundamental repetition rate and a low noise performance is demonstrated. The compact and robust laser operates at a central wavelength of 1553.9 nm with a 3 dB spectral bandwidth of 7.9 nm and a temporal width of 550 fs. All the fibers and components used in the laser are polarization-maintaining (PM), so the output pulses are linearly polarized. The degree of polarization of the optical pulses is measured to be 0.9994. The phase noise of the seventh harmonic (7.21 GHz) is measured and a low timing jitter of 11.7 fs is obtained by integrating the phase noise from 30 MHz down to 100 Hz. The noise performance is analyzed in detail, and the methods for further optimizing the timing jitter are also proposed. So far, we know this to be the first-reported low-noise all-PM erbium-doped fiber laser with a gigahertz level pulse repetition rate.

Abstract:We report on environmentally stable long-cavity ultrashort erbium-doped fiber lasers, which self-start mode-locking at quite low thresholds by using spectrally filtered and phase-biased nonlinear amplifying long-loop mirrors. By employing 100-m polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) in the nonlinear loop, the fundamental repetition rate reaches 1.84 MHz and no practical limitation is found to further decrease the repetition rate. The filter used in the long loop not only suppresses Kelly sidebands of the solitons, but also eliminates the amplified spontaneous emission which exists widely in low-repetition-rate ultrafast fiber lasers. The bandwidth of the filter is optimized by using a numerical model. The laser emits approximately 3-ps pulses with an energy of 17.4 pJ, which is further boosted to $1.5~\unicode[STIX]{x03BC}\text{J}$ by using a fiber amplifier.

Abstract:An attempt was made to ascertain the influence of body weight on degenerative skeletal diseases in a group of 250 hospitalized patients suffering from gonarthrosis and/or lumbar syndrome. The current average body weight according to age, size and sex (Geigy Tables) were used as the standard. Patients with gonarthrosis were significantly overweight while patients with lumbar syndrome fell within the normal range. A prearthrosis or prearthritic deformity of the vertebral column or knee could be demonstrated in the majority of patients, particularly the younger ones. In most of the older patients, an age-induced reduction in the quality of cartilage and tissue of the intervertebral disk was already present. For the established casual significance of prearthroses, the only possible influence of body weight on the development of alterations is as a contributing factor, to functional strain. A statement cannot be made concerning the importance of this contributing factor for methodological reasons; an essential influence, however, is doubtful. Overweight alone does not tend to induce degenerative skeletal alterations under normal static and occupational conditions.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a passively mode-locked thulium/holmium co-doped fiber (THDF) laser based on the combination of the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) and the semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). The wavelength tunable range is 42nm in the single pulse mode-locked state. In an all-anomalous-dispersion cavity, dual-wavelength soliton pulses centered around at 1894.15 nm and 1938.4 nm with 3 dB bandwidths of 0.47 nm and 1.1 nm are observed. By adjusting polarization controllers (PC), multi-pulse mode locking and harmonic mode locking (HML) are also obtained.
