Abstract:The synthesis of Si-based composite material can be realized via the reduction of ZnO by excess Si during ball milling. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of the reacted products Zn and SiOx (0 <x < 2) in the Si matrix. The composite material was coated with carbon by a high-temperature carburizing process. The carbon-coated composite material shows excellent cycling stability at 0.2 C by demonstrating a capacity retention rate of 78.05 % after 300 cycles with a charging-specific capacity of 697 mA h/g. These results indicate that the nanocrystalline Zn and amorphous SiOx products from the solid-state reaction of cheap Si and ZnO are very effective in improving the cycling stability of Si-based composite material.
