Abstract:The paper is devoted to problems concerning the generic properties of extensions of dynamical systems with invariant measures. It is proved that generic extensions preserve the singularity of the spectrum, the mixing property and some other asymptotic properties. It is discovered that the preservation of algebraic properties generally depends on statistical properties of the base. It is established that the -entropy of a generic extension is infinite. This fact yields a new proof of the result due to Weiss, Glasner, Austin and Thouvenot on the nondominance of deterministic actions. Generic measurable families of automorphisms of a probability space are considered. It is shown that the asymptotic behaviour of representatives of a generic family is characterized by a combination of dynamic conformism and dynamic individualism. Bibliography: 15 titles.

Abstract:This text is written based on the author's publications during the period from 1991 to 2001. The work is devoted to the theory of Markov intertwining operators and joinings of measure-preserving group actions, as well as to their applications to study asymptotic properties of dynamical systems. Special attention is paid to Rokhlin's problems on multiple mixing and multiple spectrum. The development of these topics over the past twenty years has not been discussed. In fact many results on joinings have frozen in time, many questions have remained open without losing their relevance, but probably have ceased to excite interest due to difficulties. For example, it is not known whether the minimal self-joinings of order 2 imply all orders? Is there a non-trivial pairwise independent joining for a weakly mixing system of zero entropy? What can be said about such joinings for transformations with small local rank? These questions are ripe for a long time, and the author reminds the reader about them, combining his story with numerous partial and related results.

Generic extensions of ergodic actions

Abstract:The article considers generic extensions of measure-preserving actions. We prove that the P-entropy of the generic extensions with finite P-entropy is infinite. This is exploited to obtain the result by Austin, Glasner, Thouvenot, and Weiss that the generic extension of an deterministic action is not isomorphic to it. We show also that generic cocycles are recurrent; as well as typical extensions preserve the singularity of the spectrum, partial rigidity, mildly mixing, and mixing. At the same time, the lifting of some algebraic properties under the generic extension may depend on the statistical properties of the base. The typical measurable families of automorphisms are considered as well. The dynamic behavior of such families is a bit unusual. It is characterized by a combination of the dynamic conformism with the dynamic individualism of the representatives of the generic family.

Abstract:The family of pairwise independently determined (PID) systems, i.e., those for which the independent joining is the only self joining with independent 2-marginals, is a class of systems for which the long standing open question by Rokhlin, of whether mixing implies mixing of all orders, has a positive answer. We show that in the class of weakly mixing PID one finds a positive answer for another long-standing open problem, whether the multiple ergodic averages 1/N∑_n = 0^N - 1f_1( T^nx)...f_d( T^dnx),N →∞ almost surely converge.

Abstract:The following question due to Thouvenot is well-known in ergodic theory. Let $S$ and $T$ be automorphisms of a probability space and let $ S \otimes S $ be isomorphic to $T \otimes T $. Could $S$ be not isomorphic to $T$? Our note contains a simple answer to this question and a generalization of Kulaga's result on the corresponding isomorphism for some class of flows (see <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1101.4975" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1101.4975">arXiv:1101.4975</a>). We show that the isomorphism of weakly mixing flows $ S_t \otimes S_t $ and $ T_t \otimes T_t $ implies the isomorphism of the flows $S_t$ and $T_t$, if the latter has an integral weak limit.

Abstract:In this paper we study the ergodic theory of a class of symbolic dynamical systems $(\O, T, \mu)$ where $T:{\O}\to \O$ the left shift transformation on $\O=\prod_0^\infty\{0,1\}$ and $\mu$ is a $\s$-finite $T$-invariant measure having the property that one can find a real number $d$ so that $\mu(\tau^d)=\infty$ but $\mu(\tau^{d-\epsilon})<\infty$ for all $\epsilon >0$, where $\tau$ is the first passage time function in the reference state 1. In particular we shall consider invariant measures $\mu$ arising from a potential $V$ which is uniformly continuous but not of summable variation. If $d>0$ then $\mu$ can be normalized to give the unique non-atomic equilibrium probability measure of $V$ for which we compute the (asymptotically) exact mixing rate, of order $n^{-d}$. We also establish the weak-Bernoulli property and a polynomial cluster property (decay of correlations) for observables of polynomial variation. If instead $d\leq 0$ then $\mu$ is an infinite measure with scaling rate of order $n^d$. Moreover, the analytic properties of the weighted dynamical zeta function and those of the Fourier transform of correlation functions are shown to be related to one another via the spectral properties of an operator-valued power series which naturally arises from a standard inducing procedure. A detailed control of the singular behaviour of these functions in the vicinity of their non-polar singularity at $z=1$ is achieved through an approximation scheme which uses generating functions of a suitable renewal process. In the perspective of differentiable dynamics, these are statements about the unique absolutely continuous invariant measure of a class of piecewise smooth interval maps with an indifferent fixed point.

Abstract:In this paper it is shown that every non-periodic ergodic system has two topologically weakly mixing, fully supported models: one is non-minimal but has a dense set of minimal points; and the other one is proximal. Also for independent interests, for a given Kakutani-Rokhlin tower with relatively prime column heights, it is demonstrated how to get a new taller Kakutani-Rokhlin tower with same property, which can be used in Weiss's proof of the Jewett-Krieger's theorem and the proofs of our theorems. Applications of the results are given.

Abstract:This note is devoted to infinite self-similar rank 1 constructions and their applications to the spectral theory of dynamical systems. The properties of orthogonal operators induced by self-similar constructions provide some unusual spectral properties of Gaussian and Poisson suspensions.

Abstract:We utilize an ergodic theory framework to explore sublinear expectation theory. Specifically, we investigate the pointwise Birkhoff's ergodic theorem for invariant sublinear expectation systems. By further assuming that these sublinear expectation systems are ergodic, we derive stronger results. Furthermore, we relax the conditions for the law of large numbers and the strong law of large numbers under sublinear expectations from independent and identical distribution to $\alpha$-mixing. These results can be applied to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by $G$-Brownian motion (i.e., $G$-SDEs), such as $G$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. As byproducts, we also obtain a series of applications for classical ergodic theory and capacity theory.

Abstract:We study a generalized ergodic problem (E), which is a Hamilton-Jacobi equation of contact type, in the flat $n$-dimensional torus. We first obtain existence of solutions to this problem under quite general assumptions. Various examples are presented and analyzed to show that (E) does not have unique solutions in general. We then study uniqueness structures of solutions to (E) in the convex setting by using the nonlinear adjoint method.

Abstract:We obtain expansions of ergodic integrals for $\Z^d$-covers of compact self-similar translation flows, and as a consequence we obtain a form of weak rational ergodicity with optimal rates. As examples, we consider the so-called self-similar $(s,1)$-staircase flows ($\Z$-extensions of self-similar translations flows of genus-$2$ surfaces), and a variation of the Ehrenfest wind-tree model.

Abstract:In this paper we first present some conditions on the extremality of invariant measures of a Markov process. These conditions involve average convergence and invariant functions of the process. We then combine these with coupling and duality to study some aspects of convergence to invariant measures of Markov processes. In particular, we suggest a new way of studying complete convergence. Abstract:We study the uniform ergodicity property for non-invertible topological and measure-preserving dynamical systems. It is shown that for topological dynamical systems uniform ergodicity is equivalent to eventually periodicity and that for measure preserving systems it is equivalent to periodicity. To obtain our results, we prove a result on the long-term behavior of lattice homomorphisms that have $1$ isolated in its spectrum.

Abstract:Answering Vershik's question we show that quasi-similarity does not conserve the entropy, proving quasi-similarity of all Bernoulli actions of a countable infinite group. We prove also the following generalization of Pinsker's theorem: the actions with zero Kirillov-Kushnirenko $P$-entropy and the actions with completely positive $P$-entropy are disjoint. Poisson suspensions are used as examples.
