Abstract:We show how classification of joinings of two dynamical systems can be used in some sparse equidistribution problems in homogeneous dynamics, and by using recent quantitative results about equidistribution theorems, one can deduce some quantitative estimates for such problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive a joint central limit theorem for random vector whose components are function of random sesquilinear forms. This result is a natural extension of the existing central limit theory on random quadratic forms. We also provide applications in random matrix theory related to large-dimensional spiked population models. For the first application, we find the joint distribution of grouped extreme sample eigenvalues correspond to the spikes. And for the second application, under the assumption that the population covariance matrix is diagonal with k (fixed) simple spikes, we derive the asymptotic joint distribution of the extreme sample eigenvalue and its corresponding sample eigenvector projection.

Abstract:We consider a class of dependent random variables where the dependence structure involves a factor driven by Sn/n. Under very mild conditions for the innovation, we obtain several asymptotic results for the partial sums including basic asymptotics and strong limit theorems. The fact that the asymptotic properties differ strikingly in a neighbour of a critical point makes the model very interesting.
Weak mixing and sparse equidistribution

Abstract:The celebrated Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem asserts that, for an ergodic map, orbits of almost every point equidistributes when sampled at integer times. This result was generalized by Bourgain to many natural sparse subsets of the integers. On the other hand, the behaviour of orbits of \textbf{all} points in a dynamical system is much less understood, especially for sparse subsets of the integers. We generalize a method introduced by A. Venkatesh to tackle this problem in two directions, general $\mathbb{R}^d$ actions instead of flows, and weak mixing, rather than mixing, actions. Along the way, we also establish some basic properties of weak mixing and show weak mixing for the time 1-map of a weak mixing flow. The main examples are equidistribution along $\{(n^{1+\epsilon_i})_{i=1}^d\}$, which is a direct generalisation of Venkatesh's example, and equidistribution along random subsets of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for horosperical action.

Effective equidistribution of large dimensional measures on affine invariant submanifolds

Abstract:The unstable foliation, that locally is given by changing horizontal components of period coordinates, plays an important role in study of translation surfaces, including their deformation theory and in the understanding of horocycle invariant measures. In this article we show that measures of large dimension on the unstable foliation equidistribute in affine invariant submanifolds and give an effective rate. An analogous result in the setting of homogeneous dynamics is crucially used in the effective density and equidistribution results of Lindenstrauss-Mohammadi and Lindenstrauss--Mohammadi--Wang.

Abstract:In this paper we revisited the classical problem of max-sum equivalence of randomly (weighted) sums in two dimensions. In opposite to the most papers in leterature, we consider that there exist some inderdependence between the primary random variables, which is achieved by a combination of a new dependence structure with some two-dimensional heavy-tailed classes of distributions. Further we introduce a new approach in two-dimensional regular varying distributions, and we study some closure properties of this, and of other two-dimensional classes. Our results contain the finite-time ruin probability in a two-dimensional discrete time risk model.

Infinite-dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equations for statistical inference on sparse graphs

Abstract:We study the well-posedness of an infinite-dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equation posed on the set of non-negative measures and with a monotonic non-linearity. Our results will be used in a companion work to propose a conjecture and prove partial results concerning the asymptotic mutual information in the assortative stochastic block model in the sparse regime. The equation we consider is naturally stated in terms of the Gateaux derivative of the solution, unlike previous works in which the derivative is usually of transport type. We introduce an approximating family of finite-dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equations, and use the monotonicity of the non-linearity to show that no boundary condition needs to be prescribed to establish well-posedness. The solution to the infinite-dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equation is then defined as the limit of these approximating solutions. In the special setting of a convex non-linearity, we also provide a Hopf-Lax variational representation of the solution.

Abstract:We prove effective equidistribution of expanding horocycles in $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})\backslash\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ with respect to various classes of Borel probability measures on $\mathbb{R}$ having certain Fourier asymptotics. Our proof involves new techniques combining tools from automorphic forms and harmonic analysis. In particular, we prove effective equidistribution with respect to the Hausdorff measures on certain shifted, possibly irrational, missing digit Cantor sets, whose Hausdorff dimensions can be as small as 0.61. This improves upon the dimension and rationality restrictions of the recent breakthrough of Khalil--Luethi [Invent. Math]. As an application in Diophantine approximation, a complete Khintchine's theorem follows for a large class of self-similar measures extending a groundbreaking work of Yu [arXiv, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2101.05910" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.05910">2101.05910</a>].

Abstract:Using a recently developed method for proving asymptotics via orthogonal polynomial duality <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2305.17602" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.17602">arXiv:2305.17602</a>, we prove that the dynamic ASEP introduced in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1701.05239" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1701.05239">arXiv:1701.05239</a> has asymptotics which are either distributed as the Tracy--Widom $F_2,$ or are almost surely bounded. Using a different duality, we also provide contour integrals formulas for multi--species ASEP, which generalize results for the single--species ASEP.

Asymptotics of integral points, equivariant compactifications and equidistributions for homogeneous spaces

Abstract:Let U be a homogeneous variety over rational numbers of some linear algebraic group. Fix an integral model and assume the existence of infinitely many integral points. Then one would like to give an asymptotic count with the help of some height function. In many cases, with the help of measure rigidity of unipotent flows, we reduce this problem to one on equivariant birational geometry. For instance, we show that if G and H are both connected, semisimple, simply connected and without compact factors, then U=G/H is strongly Hardy-Littlewood with respect to certain height function. We also show that when H is "large" in H and both G and H are connected, reductive and without non-trivial Q-characters, then for every equivariant height, the asymptotic of integral points is the same as the volume asymptotic up to a constant. Three concrete examples with explicit heights are also provided to illustrate our approach.

Equidistribution in Random Polynomials and Systems of Random Holomorphic Sections

Abstract:This article addresses an equidistribution problem concerning the zeros of systems of random holomorphic sections of positive line bundles on compact K\"{a}hler manifolds and random polynomials on $\mathbb{C}^{m}$ in the setting of a compact subset. For random polynomials, we consider non-orthonormal bases and prove an equidistribution result which are more general than the previously acquired ones for non-discrete probability measures. More precisely, our result demonstrates that the equidistribution holds true even when the random coefficients in the basis representation are not independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.), and moreover, they are not constrained to any particular probability distribution function. For random holomorphic sections, by extending the concept of a sequence of asymptotically Bernstein-Markov measures introduced by Levenberg, Bloom and Bayraktar in their recent paper to the setting of holomorphic line bundles over compact K\"{a}hler manifolds, we derive a global equidistribution theorem related to the zeros of systems of random holomorphic sections for large tensor powers of a fixed line bundle for any codimension $k$. In both settings using the variance estimation technique in another study of the author with Bojnik plays an important role.

Margulis' Inequality for translates of horospherical orbits and applications to equidistribution

Abstract:In this paper we develope a quantitative non-divergence theorem for translates of horospherical orbits, using the technique of Margulis' inequality as developed by Eskin-Margulis-Mozes and Eskin-Margulis. As we use the Margulis' inequality, our results do not depend on the spectral gap of the action. As an application of our techniques, we show that given a horospherical flow over the space of lattices, the horospherical orbit of every lattice defined over a number field, not contained in a proper rational parabolic subgroup is equidistributed with an effective rate.

Fluid limits for interacting queues in sparse dynamic graphs

Abstract:Consider a network of $n$ single-server queues where tasks arrive independently at each of the servers at rate $\lambda_n$. The servers are interconnected by a graph that is resampled at rate $\mu_n$ in a way that is symmetric with respect to the servers, and each task is dispatched to the shortest queue in the graph neighborhood where it appears. The so-called occupancy process describes the empirical distribution of the number of tasks across the servers. This stochastic process evolves on the underlying dynamic graph, and its dynamics depend on the the number of tasks at each individual server and the neighborhood structure of the graph. We prove that this dependency disappears in the limit as $n \to \infty$ when $\lambda_n / n \to \lambda$ and $\mu_n \to \infty$, and establish that the limit of the occupancy process is given by a system of differential equations that depends solely on $\lambda$ and the limiting degree distribution of the graph. We further show that the stationary distribution of the occupancy process converges to an equilibrium point of the differential equations, and derive properties of this equilibrium that reflect the impact of the degree distribution. Our focus is on truly sparse graphs where the maximum degree is uniformly bounded across $n$, making neighboring servers strongly correlated.

Abstract:We examine the distributions of non-commutative polynomials of non-atomic, freely independent random variables. In particular, we obtain an analogue of the Strong Atiyah Conjecture for free groups thus proving that the measure of each atom of any $n \times n$ matricial polynomial of non-atomic, freely independent random variables is an integer multiple of $n^{-1}$. In addition, we show that the Cauchy transform of the distribution of any matricial polynomial of freely independent semicircular variables is algebraic and thus the polynomial has a distribution that is real-analytic except at a finite number of points.

Abstract:The notion of disjoint $\mathcal{A}$-transitivity for a Furstenberg family $\mathcal{A}$ is introduced with the aim to generalize properties derived from disjoint hypercyclic operators. We begin a systematic study by showing some of the basic properties, including necessary conditions to inherit the property on the whole space from an invariant linearly dense set containing the origin. As a consequence, we continue the study of the link between non-linear and linear dynamics through Lipschitz-free spaces by presenting some necessary conditions to obtain disjoint $\mathcal{A}$-transitivity for families of Lipschitz-free operators on $\mathcal{F}(M)$ expressed in terms of conditions in the underlying metric space $M$.

Abstract:We prove that certain families of homogenous affine iterated function systems in $\mathbb{R}^d$ have the property that the open set condition and the existence of exact overlaps both occur densely in the space of translation parameters. These examples demonstrate that in the theorems of Falconer and Jordan-Pollicott-Simon on the almost sure dimensions of self-affine sets and measures, the set of exceptional translation parameters can be a dense set. The proof combines results from the literature on self-affine tilings of $\mathbb{R}^d$ with an adaptation of a classic argument of Erdős on the singularity of certain Bernoulli convolutions. Our result encompasses a one-dimensional example due to Kenyon which arises as a special case.

On some integrable models in inhomogeneous space

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to build a framework that allows for an in-depth study of various generalisations to inhomogeneous space of models of Borodin-Ferrari, Dieker-Warren, Nordenstam, Warren-Windridge of interacting particles in interlacing arrays, both in discrete and continuous time, involving both Bernoulli and geometric jumps. The models can in addition be either time-inhomogeneous or particle-inhomogeneous. We show that the correlation functions of these models are determinantal and using this we prove a short-time asymptotic for these dynamics to the discrete Bessel point process. We moreover prove a number of closely related results. We prove that the autonomous, inhomogeneous in space and time, TASEP-like and pushTASEP-like particle systems on the edges of the array have explicit transition kernels and that from any deterministic initial condition their distributions are marginals of a determinantal measure. We prove a novel duality relation between dynamics in inhomogeneous space and dynamics with inhomogeneities on the level of the array. We extend the work of Nordenstam on the shuffling algorithm for domino tilings of the Aztec diamond and its relation to push-block dynamics in interlacing arrays to general weights on the tilings and then connect this, for a special class of weights, back to our previous results. We also consider non-intersecting walks in inhomogeneous space and time with fixed starting and end points and obtain a formula for their correlation functions, involving among other ingredients, an explicit Riemann-Hilbert problem. We then prove a limit theorem for the bottom lines in this line-ensemble, under some technical conditions. The main computational tool throughout this work is a natural generalisation of a Toeplitz matrix, that we call inhomogeneous Toeplitz-like matrix $\mathsf{T}_{\mathbf{f}}$ with (a possibly matrix-valued) symbol $\mathbf{f}$.

Let E be a measurable set in X with . Then, K many (left) translates of cover . This result extends and refines uniformity results by Furstenberg and Katznelson. As a combinatorial application, we obtain the following uniformity result. For any integers and any , there are and (dependent only on d, l, and ) such that for all finite solvable groups G of derived length l and any subset with (where m is the uniform measure on G), we have that K-many (left) translates of cover G. The proof of our main result is a consequence of an ultralimit version of Austin's amenable ergodic Szeméredi theorem.
