Abstract:Objectives This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of the robotic computer-assisted implant surgery (r-CAIS) for immediate implant placement. Methods Patients requiring immediate implant placement in maxillary anterior region were enrolled in the r-CAIS. Before surgery, the patients took a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan with a positioning marker. Virtual implant placement position and drilling sequences were planned. Following spatial registration and calibration, the implants were placed with the robotic system under the surgeon's supervision. A postoperative CBCT was performed to determine the placed implant positions. The DICOM data of the virtually planned and the actually placed implant were superimposed and registered through the accuracy verification software of the robotic system. The accuracy was calculated automatically. The deviation at the mesial–distal, labial–palatal, and apico-coronal directions were recorded. Results Fifteen patients with 20 implants were included. No adverse surgical events or postoperative complications were reported. The global platform, apex, and angular deviation were 0.75 ± 0.20 mm (95% CI: 0.65 to 0.84 mm), 0.70 ± 0.27 mm (95% CI: 0.57 to 0.82 mm), and 1.17 ± 0.73° (95% CI: 0.83 to 1.51°), respectively. Moreover, the vertical platform and apex deviation were 0.50 ± 0.31 mm, (95% CI: 0.35 to 0.64 mm) and 0.48 ± 0.32 mm, (95% CI: 0.33 to 0.63 mm), respectively. All the placed implant positions were further labial and apical than the planned ones, respectively. Conclusions High accuracy of immediate implant placement could be achieved with robotic system. Clinical significance Our study provided significant evidence to support the potential of the robotic system in implant placement, even in technically challenging immediate scenarios.

Abstract:Objectives The objective of this study is (1) to compare the accuracy of an open‐sleeved static computer‐assisted implant system (sCAIS) with a closed‐sleeve sCAIS and free‐hand approach in immediate implant placement (IIP) of maxillary molar sites and (2) to investigate the influence of socket morphology on these approaches. Materials and Methods Ninety partially edentulous duplicated maxillary models simulating three different molar sockets (type A, B, and C based on Smith and Tarnow's classification) were investigated. Three modalities, including sCAIS with open‐sleeves, sCAIS with closed‐sleeves, and free‐hand approach, were applied separately to 30 models with 120 sockets. A customized Python script automatically measured the deviations between the virtual and actual implant positions for all 360 implants. Results The 3D deviations of sCAIS were significantly influenced by the socket and sleeve types. Both guided groups exhibited significantly less deviation than the free‐hand approach. Type A and C sockets resulted in better implant positions than type B socket sites. In type B sockets, the open‐sleeve group achieved significantly less deviation compared to the closed‐sleeve group, with respect to apical global (1.34 ± 0.53 vs. 1.84 ± 0.59 mm), coronal horizontal (0.68 ± 0.36 vs. 0.93 ± 0.34 mm), apical horizontal (1.21 ± 0.59 vs. 1.74 ± 0.63 mm), and angular (3.30 ± 1.41 vs. 4.41 ± 1.96°) deviations. Conclusions Guided implant surgery significantly reduces deviations during molar IIP compared to free‐hand procedures. Furthermore, the use of open‐sleeve sCAIS appears to be more effective in minimizing deviations in type B sockets when compared with the closed‐sleeve guided system.

Abstract:Statement of problem The congruence of surgical implant placement with the preplanned position is important for anatomic and prosthetic precision, minimal complications, and increased longevity. The influence of implant placement timing on the surgical deviations in single posterior implants is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this clinical study was to compare deviations between preplanned and single posterior immediate and delayed implants placed using computer-guided digital light processing (DLP) surgical guides fabricated using intraoral scanning and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and methods Implant surgery was performed on 24 participants requiring single immediate or delayed implants in the posterior maxillary and mandibular regions, for which the surgical site data were obtained from CBCT and intraoral scanning. Subsequently, virtual implant planning and DLP surgical guides were fabricated. Preimplant and postimplant placement CBCT scans were overlapped, and mean deviations for the immediate and delayed implant groups were calculated. The groups were compared with unpaired t tests (α=.05). Results A total of 24 implants were placed, 12 in each group. In participants who received immediate implant placement, the mean ±standard deviation angular deviation, linear deviation at shoulder, linear deviation at apex, and vertical deviation were 1.03 ±0.70 degrees, 0.26 ±0.30 mm, 0.23 ±0.24 mm, and 0.39 ± 0.34 mm, respectively. In participants who received delayed implant treatment, the deviations were 0.53 ±0.60 degrees, 0.15 ±0.18 mm, 0.25 ±0.33 mm, and 0.17 ±0.10 mm, respectively. Significant differences between the 2 groups were found in the vertical deviation ( P <.05). Conclusions The timing of the single posterior placement was associated with different deviations in the vertical direction. All deviations obtained were below the recommended values. DLP surgical guides fabricated from intraoral and CBCT scans provided accurate implant placement in immediate and delayed single posterior implants.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the differences in the accuracy of immediate intraoral, immediate extraoral, and delayed dental implant placement with surgical guides (static computer-aided implant surgery) in patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.Methods: This was a retrospective study. The patients were divided into three groups: immediate intraoral placement (IIO), immediate extraoral placement (IEO), and delayed placement (DEL). Four variables were used to compare the planned and actual implant positions: angular deviation, three-dimensional (3D) deviation at the entry point of the implant, 3D deviation at the apical point of the implant, and depth deviation.Results: The angular deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. The 3D deviation at the entry point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The 3D deviation at the apical point was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .01) and DEL (p < .01) groups. The depth deviation was significantly higher in the IIO group than in the IEO (p < .05) and DEL (p < .05) groups. There was no statistical difference between the IEO and DEL group in angular and 3D deviation.Conclusion: With surgical guides, among the different approaches for implant placement, delayed implant placement remains the most accurate approach for patients treated with mandibular reconstruction.
Accuracy of static computer-assisted implant placement in anterior and posterior sites by clinicians new to implant dentistry: in vitro comparison of fully guided, pilot-guided, and freehand protocols

Abstract:Abstract Background One of the challenges encountered by clinicians new to implant dentistry is the determination and controlling of implant location. This study compared the accuracy of fully guided (FG) and pilot-guided (PG) static computer-assisted implant placement (sCAIP) protocols against the conventional freehand (FH) protocol for placing single anterior and posterior implants by recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry. Material and methods Ten clinicians new to implant dentistry inserted one anterior (central incisor) and one posterior (first molar) implants per protocol in training maxillary models. The FG protocol involved drilling and implant placement through the guide, while the PG protocol controlled the pilot drilling only. The FH implant placement was completed without the aid of any guide. A total of 30 models were used, and 60 implants were inserted. The implant vertical, horizontal neck, horizontal apex, and angle deviations from planned positions were calculated. Results The FG protocol provided the most accurate implant placement in relation to horizontal neck (0.47 mm–0.52 mm), horizontal apex (0.71 mm–0.74 mm), and angle deviations (2.42 o –2.61 o ). The vertical deviation was not significantly different among the different protocols. The PG protocol was generally similar to the FH protocol with a horizontal neck deviation of 1.01 mm–1.14 mm, horizontal apex deviation of 1.02 mm–1.35 mm, and angle deviation of 4.65 o –7.79 o . The FG protocol showed similarity in the accuracy of the anterior and posterior implants. There was a tendency for inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants for the PG and FH protocols. Conclusions In the hands of recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry, it appears that the accuracy of the FG protocol was superior to the other protocols and was not influenced by the position of the implants. The PG and FH protocols showed inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants.

Abstract:OBJECTIVESTo explore the method of manufacturing an implant surgery template with a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique and evaluate its precision in clinical cases.METHODSPatients referred to the 2nd Dental Center of Peking University who were partially edentulous, were enrolled and scanned with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Diagnostic casts were laser scanned to record the configuration of the patients' dentition and mucosae. CBCT and laser scanning data were subsequently loaded into Simplant software. Implant positions were planned in the software with a computer-aided design technique, and surgical templates were fabricated with a rapid prototyping technique. These templates were used to guide implant placement surgery.RESULTSThe mean value of linear deviation was 1.00 mm (range 0 to 2.16 mm) for implant shoulder and 1.26 mm (range 0.51 to 2.86 mm) for the implant apex. The mean angular deviation was 4.74 degress (0.37 to 10.28 degrees). Deviations were higher in the posterior region than anterior. The tooth-supported template provided higher precision than did the tooth/ mucosa-supported template, but no statistically significant difference was found.CONCLUSIONComputer-guided implant surgery with the CAD/CAM technique provides dentists with a good platform for preoperative planning, precise implant insertion, and ideal rehabilitation. The protocol of this three-dimensional laser scanning technique can provide precision comparable to that of double-scanning.
Digital Versus Radiographic Accuracy Evaluation of Guided Implant Surgery: an in Vitro Study

Abstract:Background Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the most widely used method for postsurgical evaluation of the accuracy of guided implant surgery. However, the disadvantages of CBCT include radiation exposure, artifacts caused by metal implants, and high cost. Few studies have introduced a digital registration method to replace CBCT for evaluating the accuracy of guided surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare digital registration to conventional CBCT in terms of the capacity to evaluate the implant positioning accuracy of guided surgery. Materials and methods This in vitro study included 40 acrylic resin models with posterior single mandibular tooth loss. Guided surgery software was used to determine the optimal implant position; 40 tooth-supported fully guided drilling templates were designed and milled accordingly. After the guided surgery, the accuracies of the surgical templates were evaluated by conventional CBCT and digital registration. For evaluation by conventional CBCT, postsurgical CBCT scans of the resin models were performed. The CBCT data were reconstructed and superimposed on the implant planning data. For digital registration, we constructed a virtual registration unit that consisted of an implant replica and a scan body. Next, we obtained postsurgical optical scans of resin models with the scan body. The postsurgical implant position was identified by superimposition of the registration unit and optical scan data. The implant planning data and postsurgical implant position data were superimposed; deviations were reported in terms of distance for implant entry/apex point and in terms of angle for the implant axis. Interclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland–Altman plots were used to analyze the agreement between the two evaluation methods. Results The ICCs between the two methods were 0.986, 0.993, and 0.968 for the entry point, apex point, and angle, respectively; all were significantly greater than 0.75 ( p < 0.001). Bland–Altman plots showed that the 95% limits of agreement of the differences were − 0.144 to + 0.081 mm, − 0.135 to + 0.147 mm, and − 0.451° to + 0.729° for the entry point, apex point, and angle, respectively; all values were within the maximum tolerated difference. Conclusion Conventional CBCT and digital registration showed good agreement in terms of evaluating the accuracy of implant positioning using tooth-supported surgical templates.
Accuracy of implant placement with computer-aided static, dynamic, and robot-assisted surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials

Abstract:This systematic review explores the accuracy of computerized guided implant placement including computer-aided static, dynamic, and robot-assisted surgery. An electronic search up to February 28, 2023, was conducted using the PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases using the search terms "surgery", "computer-assisted", "dynamic computer-assisted", "robotic surgical procedures", and "dental implants". The outcome variables were discrepancies including the implant's 3D-coronal, -apical and -angular deviations. Articles were selectively retrieved according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the data were quantitatively meta-analysed to verify the study outcomes. Sixty-seven articles were finally identified and included for analysis. The accuracy comparison revealed an overall mean deviation at the entry point of 1.11 mm (95% CI: 1.02–1.19), and 1.40 mm (95% CI: 1.31–1.49) at the apex, and the angulation was 3.51 ̊ (95% CI: 3.27–3.75). Amongst computerized guided implant placements, the robotic system tended to show the lowest deviation (0.81 mm in coronal deviation, 0.77 mm in apical deviation, and 1.71 ̊ in angular deviation). No significant differences were found between the arch type and flap operation in cases of dynamic navigation. The fully-guided protocol demonstrated a significantly higher level of accuracy compared to the pilot-guided protocol, but did not show any significant difference when compared to the partially guided protocol. The use of computerized technology clinically affirms that operators can accurately place implants in three directions. Several studies agree that a fully guided protocol is the gold standard in clinical practice.

Accuracy of an autonomous dental implant robotic system versus static guide-assisted implant surgery: A retrospective clinical study

Abstract:Statement of problem: The accuracy of implant placement is a prerequisite for prosthetically driven implant surgery and is necessary to ensure the long-term stability of dental implants. Imprecise implant position may bring difficulties for restoration, damage anatomic structures, affect peri-implant tissues, and lead to ultimate implant failure. Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to compare the accuracy of implants placed with an autonomous dental implant robotic (ADIR) system with those placed with static computer assisted implant surgery (sCAIS). Material and methods: Thirty-nine participants were enrolled in this retrospective study: 20 participants had received implant surgery with the ADIR system and 19 participants had implants placed with sCAIS. The preoperative plans and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans after implant placement were matched during the study. The coronal, apical, and angular deviations were measured and analyzed. A linear regression model was established to analyze the source of deviation. MANOVA was used to compare differences in the major outcome variables (α=.05). Results: A total of 60 implants were placed in 39 participants (30 in each of the 2 groups). The mean ±standard deviation coronal, apical, and angular deviation of the ADIR system group and sCAIS group were 0.43 ±0.18 mm versus 1.31 ±0.62 mm (P<.001), 0.56 ±0.18 mm versus 1.47 ±0.65 mm (P<.001), and 1.48 ±0.59 degrees versus 2.42 ±1.55 degrees (P=.003), respectively. In addition, there was no significant difference in accuracy in the different implant regions (anterior, premolar, molar, maxilla, mandible) (P>.05). No complications were observed. Conclusions: The accuracy of the implant position using the ADIR system was significantly higher than with sCAIS, suggesting that the ADIR system can achieve minimally invasive and excellent accuracy. Impact of labially inclined implant axes on immediate implant placement and provisionalization in anterior maxilla: A prospective cohort study

Abstract:Objectives: To investigate whether a labially inclined implant axis compromises the clinical outcomes of immediate implant placement and provisionalization (IIPP) in the anterior maxilla. Materials and methods: Patients with unsalvageable central or lateral maxillary incisors were enrolled. IIPP with simultaneous connective tissue graft (CTG) was performed in all participants. In the control group, the alveolar ridge had a long axis aligned with the tooth, which ensured that the immediate implant was aimed at the incisor edge or the cingulum of future restoration. The test group had a large angle between the axes of the ridge and tooth. To avoid bone fenestration, the implants were placed labially inclined and emerged from the labial side of future restoration. Intra-oral scanning and cone-beam computed tomography were performed to record soft and hard tissue profiles at baseline and 1 year later. Soft tissue stability, bone remodeling, and pink esthetic score (PES) were evaluated and compared between two groups. Results: Thirty-nine participants (19 tests and 20 controls) completed the study. At 1-year post-surgery, the mid-facial gingival margin migrations were 0.85 ± 0.37 mm (test) and 0.81 ± 0.33 mm (control), without significant differences. No differences were identified in buccal profile alteration, linear ridge reduction, buccal bone thickness, or PES scores. The test group demonstrated thinner buccal soft tissue at the crestal level than the control group. Conclusions: When large tooth-ridge angulation presented, labially inclined implant, avoiding buccal ridge fenestration in IIPP with CTG, did not compromise the clinical outcome in short term.
Accuracy of navigation guided implant surgery for immediate loading complete arch restorations: Prospective clinical trial

Abstract:Objectives: To assess navigation accuracy for complete-arch implant placement with immediate loading of digitally prefabricated provisional. Materials and methods: Consecutive edentulous and terminal dentition patients requiring at least one complete-arch FDP were treated between December 2020 and January 2022. Accuracy was evaluated by superimposing pre-operative and post-operative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), recording linear (mm) and angular (degrees) deviations. T-tests were performed to investigate the potential effect of the registration algorithm (fiducial-based vs. fiducial-free), type of references for the fiducial-free algorithm (teeth vs. bone screws), site characteristic (healed vs. post-extractive), implant angulation (axial vs. tilted), type of arch (maxilla vs. mandible) on the accuracy with p-value <0.05. Results: Twenty-five patients, 36 complete-arches, and 161 implants were placed. The overall mean angular deviation was 2.19° (SD 1.26°). The global platform and apex mean deviations were 1.17 mm (SD 0.57 mm), and 1.30 mm (SD 0.62 mm). Meaningful global platform (p = 0.0009) and apical (p = 0.0109) deviations were experienced only between healed and post-extraction sites. None of the analyzed variables significantly influenced angular deviation. Minor single-axis deviations were reported for the type of jaw (y-axis at implant platform and apex), registration algorithm (y-axis platform and z-axis deviations), and type of references for the fiducial-free algorithm. No statistically significant differences were found in relation to implant angulation. Conclusions: Within the study limitations navigation was reliable for complete-arch implant placement with immediate loading digitally pre-fabricated FDP. AI-driven surface anatomy identification and calibration protocol made fiducial-free registration as accurate as fiducial-based, teeth and bone screws equal as references. Implant site characteristics were the only statistically significant variable with healed sites reporting higher accuracy compared to post-extractive. Live-tracked navigation surgery enhanced operator performance and accuracy regardless of implant angulation and type of jaw. A mean safety room of about 1 mm and 2° should be considered.

Abstract:Objectives This observational study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of robotic computer-assisted implant surgery (r-CAIS) for full-arch immediate restoration and to analyse possible factors contributing to deviations. Methods Three edentulous patients (five arches) underwent r-CAIS. Osteotomies were performed using an autonomous robot under the surgeon's supervision, and implant placement was performed in a freehand or robotic manner. Prefabricated provisional prostheses were delivered immediately after surgery. Postoperative cone beam computed tomography scans were performed to assess the deviations between the planned and placed implants. Statistics were compared with deviations of s-CAIS outlined in a meta-analysis. Results A sum of 28 implants were used. The mean global coronal and apical deviations measured 0.91 ±0.43 mm and 1.01 ±0.45 mm, respectively, and the mean angular deviation measured 1.21 ±1.24 o. The r-CAIS showed significantly better precision than the s-CAIS in full-arch cases ( P <0.001). The implants inserted using the robotic arm exhibited fewer deviations than those placed in the freehand manner. Eighty percent of prefabricated provisional prostheses were successfully delivered. Conclusions Within the limitations of the present study, our data suggest that autonomous r-CAIS is a feasible approach for simultaneous immediate restoration in edentulous patients, showing better accuracy than s-CAIS. Further large-scale studies are necessary to verify the advantages and disadvantages of this novel technique and to explore possible factors that influence its accuracy. Clinical Significance Autonomous r-CAIS can provide clinically acceptable implant placement accuracy in edentulous patients, significantly surpassing s-CAIS. This level of accuracy may represent a viable therapeutic approach for simultaneous immediate full-arch restoration.

Abstract:Background: Robotic computer-assisted implant surgery (r-CAIS) is a revolutionary innovation in oral implantation; however, the clinical feasibility of r-CAIS for immediate implant placement (IIP) in posterior teeth has not been verified. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of r-CAIS for IIP in posterior tooth regions. Methods: Patients with posterior teeth to be extracted and indicated to undergo r-CAIS were evaluated. The patients had positioning markers installed in the oral cavity and underwent cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Subsequently, minimally invasive tooth extractions were performed, and an individualised surgical plan was generated in the robotic software. After marker registration, implantation surgery was performed by the robotic arm under the supervision and assistance of the surgeons. Finally, the deviations between the planned and placed implants were evaluated based on preoperative and postoperative CBCT data. Results: A total of 12 patients were evaluated. No adverse events occurred during the surgery. The mean global coronal, global apical, and angular deviations were 0.46 ± 0.15 mm (95%CI:0.36 to 0.56 mm), 0.46 ± 0.14 mm (95%CI:0.37 to 0.54 mm), and 1.05 ± 0.55° (0.69 to 1.40°), respectively. Conclusions: Under the limited conditions of this study, the r-CAIS exhibited high accuracy in posterior teeth IIP surgery. Further multicentre randomised controlled studies are required to confirm the feasibility of this technology.
Accuracy of Edentulous Computer-Aided Implant Surgery as Compared to Virtual Planning: A Retrospective Multicenter Study

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of computer-aided dental implant positions obtained with mucosal-supported templates as compared to Three-Dimensional (3D) planning. Materials and methods: One-hundred implants were inserted into 14 edentulous patients using the All-on-4/6 protocol after surgical virtual planning with RealGUIDE, 3DIEMME, and Geomagic software. After 6 months, three-dimensional neck (V) and apex (S) spatial coordinates of implants and angle inclination displacements as compared to virtual plans were evaluated. Results: The S maxilla coordinates revealed a significant discrepancy between clinical and virtual implant positions (p-value = 0.091). The V coordinates showed no significant differences (p-value = 0.71). The S (p-value = 0.017) and V (p-value = 0.038) mandible coordinates showed significant discrepancies between the clinical and virtual positions of the screws. Implant evaluation showed a 1-mm in average of the horizontal deviation in the V point and a 1.6-mm deviation in the S point. A mean 5° angular global deviation was detected. The multivariate permutation test of the S (p-value = 0.02) confirmed the difference. Greater errors in the mandible were detected as compared to the maxilla, and a higher S discrepancy was found in the posterior jaw compared to the anterior section of both the mandible and maxilla. Conclusions: Computer-aided surgery with mucosal-supported templates is a predictable procedure for implant placement. Data showed a discrepancy between the actual dental implant position as compared to the virtual plan, but this was not statistically significant. However, the horizontal and angle deviations detected indicated that flap surgery should be used to prevent implant positioning errors due to poor sensitivity and accuracy in cases of severe jaw atrophy.

Abstract:Background Immediate implant restoration by prefabricated prosthesis has multiple benefits. However, the design and insertion workflow of the prosthesis may influence the seating. Purpose Evaluation of seating accuracy of prefabricated interim prosthesis of different designs and insertion workflows for immediate restoration of implants placed via static computer‐assisted implant surgery (sCAIS). Materials and Methods A maxillary model without incisors was used to plan for two implants at the lateral incisor locations. According to the planned implants, sCAIS surgical template and a four‐unit interim prosthesis were designed. Four prostheses were fabricated based on the design and insertion workflow. The first prosthesis involved complete fabrication (CF) of the interim prosthesis, where the interim prosthesis is fabricated for laboratory attachment to abutments. The other three prostheses were produced by partial fabrication (PF), where the interim prosthesis shell was produced with internal spacing between the fitting surface and the abutments. The PF prostheses were cemented on abutments attached to the inserted implants. Three different PF prosthesis designs were included with different levels of internal spacing: 100 μm (PF.1), 200 μm (PF.2), and 300 μm (PF.3). A total of 15 surgical models received implants on which each prosthesis was seated and scanned by a laboratory scanner. The vertical, horizontal, and proximal contact errors were measured. Results Although all prostheses were seated on every model, the CF prostheses had greater vertical error, followed by PF.1, PF.2, and PF.3 prostheses, respectively. A similar pattern was observed for proximal contact error, where PF.3 was most superior. PF.3 prostheses had the least horizontal error than the other prostheses. Conclusions All interim prostheses experienced errors at the vertical, horizontal, and proximal surfaces, which can be attributed to deviations of the inserted implants. The PF of interim prosthesis with increased internal spacing for intraoral insertion appeared to reduce seating errors.

Abstract:The ectopic hormone production by tumor cells that have a light optical structure of typical non-endocrine cancers has long attracted the attention of investigation all over the world. Specifically, this concerns the phenomenon of the ectopic production of the beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) by non-germinogenic tumors, which is, according to R.K. Iles's data, encountered in 20-40% of malignant epithelial tumors. Despite the fact that beta-hCG synthesis is traditionally regarded as the prerogative of germinogenic tumors, the world's literature contains strong evidence for latent beta-hCG gene expression and many cases of clinically evident manifestation of the effects of chorionic gonadotropin. The latter fact, if a clinician and a pathologist are unaware of the behavior of a tumor, may give rise to a diagnostic error and incorrect treatment policy.

Abstract:Objectives To assess the accuracy of autonomous robotic and fully guided static computer‐assisted implant surgery (sCAIS) performed on models and patients. Materials and Methods This study was divided into in vitro and in vivo sections. In vitro, 80 operators were assigned to two groups randomly. Forty operators performed forty autonomous robotic implant (ARI group) surgeries and the remaining forty operators carried out forty fully guided sCAIS (FGI group) surgeries on maxillary models, respectively. Each operator placed an implant in one maxillary model. In vivo, 60 patients with 113 implants from 2019 to 2023 (ARI group: 32 patients, 58 implants; FGI group: 28 patients, 55 implants) receiving implant surgeries were incorporated in this retrospective research. The preoperative and postoperative cone beam computer tomographs (CBCTs) were utilized to estimate the linear deviations and angular deviations in two‐dimensional (2D) and three‐dimensional (3D) space. Abstract:Computer-aided implantology has developed rapidly in recent years, this study aimed to compare the accuracy of guided-surgery between anterior immediate and delayed implantation, and simultaneously assess the effect of full-guided and half-guided templates on accuracy values. Seventy-six implants were inserted in 63 patients using full-guided or half-guided template in the anterior zone. Postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was matched with preoperative planning to evaluate the deviation between actual and planned implants. No statistical difference was found in any deviation between immediate and delayed implantation (p > 0.05). In anterior immediate implantation, the global coronal, apical, depth and angular deviations of full-guided templates were all significantly lower than those of half-guided templates (0.66 ± 0.26 vs. 1.10 ± 0.76 mm, 0.96 ± 0.41 vs. 1.43 ± 0.70 mm, 0.46 ± 0.24 mm vs. 0.93 ± 0.79 mm and 1.69° ± 0.94° vs. 2.57° ± 1.57°). While in delayed implantation, full-guided templates only perform better with statistical significance on global apical and depth deviation (1.01 ± 0.42 vs. 1.51 ± 0.55 mm and 0.32 ± 0.26 vs. 0.71 ± 0.47 mm). After excluding the influence of depth deviation, the coronal and apical deviations between the two systems in immediate implantation and the apical deviations in delayed implantation had no statistical difference. Within the limit of this study, the results suggested the accuracy of guided-surgeries for anterior immediate and delayed implantations was comparable, and full-guided template was more accurate for immediate and delayed implantation.
