Abstract:Trimethylamine (TMA), TiCl4, and water are applied as the precursors to deposit Al2O3 and TiO2. With different substrate temperatures, the optical properties and surface morphologies of the two oxides TiO2 and SiO2 are studied, respectively. With substrate temperature of 120 oC, amorphous TiO2 can be obtained, and the surface roughness (RMS) is only 0.928 nm. Applying Al2O3 and TiO2 deposited in 120 oC as low and high refractive index materials, anti-reflection (AR) coating at single point (550 nm) is designed. Furthermore, with the calibrated growth rates, this AR coating is fabricated, and its ultimate reflectance for the AR coating at 550 nm is less than 0.2%, which can meet the requirement for most applications.

Abstract:A novel photocatalyst ZnTiO(3) powder was prepared by a modified alcoholysis method, using ethylene glycol as reagent/solvent and acetylacetone as stabilizer. A series of analytical techniques were used to characterize the crystallinity, composition, bandgap, morphology, specific surface area and grain size of ZnTiO(3) powders. The relationship between the physicochemical property and the photocatalytic activity was deeply investigated, too. It is found that the photocatalytic activity is dependent on the phase of catalysts. The product of ZnTiO(3) with pure hexagonal-phase calcined at 800 degrees C for 3h exhibits the maximum photocatalytic performance in the photochemical degradation of the azo dye methyl violet under solar light irradiation. The processing parameters such as the concentration of catalysts and the pH value also play an important role in tuning the photocatalytic activity. The optimal concentration and pH value of the pure hexagonal-phase ZnTiO(3) is around 4g/L and 8 in a 10mg/L dye-aqueous solution, respectively.

Abstract:Mid-infrared (MIR, 2 - 6 mu m wavelength) transparent metal oxides are attractive materials for planar integrated MIR photonic devices and sensing applications. In this report, we present reactive sputtering deposited ZrO2-TiO2 (ZTO) thin films as a new material candidate for integrated MIR photonics. The material structure and optical properties were systematically studied as a function of Ti concentration. The thin film index of refraction monotonically increases with Ti concentration, while the film crystallinity decreases. Fully amorphous ZTO films were achieved with 40 at.% Ti doping on various substrates. MIR micro-disk resonators on MgO substrates were demonstrated using Zr0.6Ti0.4O2 strip-loaded waveguides with a loaded quality factor of similar to 11,000 at 5.2 mu m wavelength. Abstract:TiOx-C nano-composite films were prepared by a sol-gel process, followed by carbonization in vacuum: A soluble organic compound, salicylic acid, coupled with a quasi-crystallized benzene ring structure was served as carbon sources; acetylacetone was used as complexing agent. Using scanning electron microscope, high-resolution transmission electron microscope, four-point probe, spectroscopic ellipsometer and spectrophotometer, the structure, composition and the performance of the films were investigated. The results reveal that the nano-composite film is made up by nano-graphites embedded in amorphous matrix, presenting outstanding optical selectivity (alpha=0.957 and epsilon=0.179). Owing to the excellent chemical and thermal stability of both carbon and TiOx, the composite film also presents prominent durability after subject to a 500 degrees C, 30 h aging test. In terms of these results, the composite film is found to be a potential candidate for selective solar absorbers.
Controllable Fabrication and Characterization of Porous C/TiO2 Nanocomposite Films As Solar Selective Absorber

Abstract:Porous C-TiO2 nanocomposite films prepared by photopolymerization-induced phase-separation method (PIPS) exhibited three dimensional interconnected pores structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), thermo-gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, UV–Vis-NIR spectrophotometer are employed to characterize the structure and optical properties. The results illustrated that the photomonomer pentaerythritol triarylate (PETA) directly affects the relative molecular weight of polymer formed by photopolymerization to regulate the morphology and residual carbon of C-TiO2 nanocomposite films, and ultimately affects the solar selective absorption properties. The single layer of as-prepared porous C-TiO2 nanocomposite films exhibits high solar absorptance (α=0.766–0.863) with low thermal emittance (ε=0.06–0.12), yielding an optimized photothermal conversion efficiency η=α-ε of (0.706–0.762) corresponding to a wide redundancy PETA concentration 0.3–0.9 (molar ratio to Ti precursor). The proportion of residual carbon contributed by PVP, PETA and poly-PETA, and other substances of the sol is 40.2%, 56.2% and 3.6%, respectively, which might be regulated by a suitable annealing process. Based on these results, porous C-TiO2 nanocomposite films are proved to be a novel candidate material for mid-temperature solar selective absorber coatings.

Abstract:Nano-sized CaTiO3∶Zn particles were successfully synthesized through sol-gel technique.The microstructure and other properties of the prepared nano particles were investigated.The average particle size of the CaTiO3∶Zn powders calculated from TEM micrograph is about 50 nm.CaTiO3 is formed as the major phase,and the added Zn exists as Zn2TiO4 phase.The CaTiO3∶Zn ceramics can be well sintered at 1 150 ℃,about 250 ℃ lower than those of ceramics obtained by conventional solid state method.The sintered CaTiO3∶Zn ceramics possess a er of 155,and a Q?f value of 6 633 GHz which is greatly improved.

Abstract:Nano-sized ZnO with small particle size,uniform size distribution and less agglomeration was synthesized by direct precipitation method under ultrasonic radiation with Zn(NO3)2 and anhydrous Na2CO3 as the raw materials,cetrimonium bromide(CTAB) as surface active agent.The product was charactered by TG-DTA,XRD and SEM,then the optimum condition of synthesis was found.Meanwhile,the prepared ZnO nano-particals were modified with oleic acid.The principle of modification was discussed simply by FT-IR method etc.and the effect of modification was analyzed by measuring activation index.

Abstract:Through the experimental study on the effect of infrared reflection properties of pigment in waterborne architectural coatings,and analysis on the mechanism of improving the performance of reflective pigments,the preparation methods of white coatings and color coatings with high reflective properties were provided.The results showed that a good reflective white coating could be obtained when the amount of ordinary titanium dioxide was 10％ of the total weight of coating formula.If a colorful coating was prepared,the titanium dioxide with larger particle size was required to ensure the reflectivity,especially near infrared reflectivity.The experimental results showed that the colorful coating with good reflective performance could be obtained by selecting the TiO2 particles with appropriate particle size and mass ratio thereof according to the given requirement.

Abstract:The pure and WO3-doped TiO2 nanoparticles photocatalyst was prepared by chemical precipitation,in which titanium tetrachloride was used as Ti-precursor,ammonia as precipitant and sodium tungstate as doping donor.The samples was characterized by XRD and FTIR.The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photocatalytic decomposition of phenol under 20 W UV light irradiation,The Effects of calcinated temperature and WO3-doped concentration on the activity was investigated.The results showed that WO3 doping retards the growth of grain size.The photocatalytic activity of pure TiO2 is optital when the sample was calcined at 450℃,The WO3-TiO2 photocatalysts show better photocatalytic activity.The optimum concentration of WO3 is 1%(mole fracition).

Abstract:Iron-doped titania (TiO2) nanocrystalline grains were prepared by sol-gel method at room temperature.The samples were characterized by using transmission electron microscope,X-ray diffractometer,energy dispersive spectrometry and ultaviolet-visible spectrophotometer.The photocatalytic property of titania nanocrystalline grains and iron-doped titanium dioxide nanocrystalline grains were investigated by degrading the methyl orange solution.The results show that the appropriate content of iron can effectively enhance the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanocrystalline grains.The optimized amount of Fe doped is approximately 25% (mole ratio of Fe to (Ti+Fe)).The photocatalytic property of iron-doped titanium dioxide nanocrystalline grains is better than that of pure titanium dioxide nanocrystalline grains.The degradation rate is more than 75% after a light exposure for 150 min.

Abstract:With zinc acetate and butyl titanate as raw materials, pure ZnO and ZnTiO3/ZnO composite photocatalysts were synthesized by a sol-gel method and calcined at 550 °C. The crystal structure, morphology, surface area, optical property, and element valence states of samples were characterized and the photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalysts were assessed by the degradation of rhodamine B. Results show that the crystal structure of ZnO is a hexagonal wurtzite phase with a band gap of 3.20 eV. When the Zn/Ti molar ratio reaches 0.2, ZnTiO3 phase appears and ZnTiO3/ZnO composite forms, which advances the transfer of photogenerated charges. ZnTiO3/ZnO (Ti/Zn = 0.2) exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity, and the degradation degree of RhB reaches 99% after 60 min, which is higher than that of pure ZnO (90%). An exorbitant Ti/Zn molar ratio will reduce the crystallinity and form more amorphous components, which is not conducive to photocatalytic performance. Therefore, when the Ti/Zn molar ratio exceeds 0.2, the photocatalytic activities of ZnTiO3/ZnO composites decrease.

Abstract:Perovskite ZnTiO3 was prepared through a new method which contained a hydrothermal process for the preparation of titanate nanotubes and an ion-exchange process. The titanate nanotubes were inferred to be H2Ti3O7·3H2O. X-ray diffraction (XRD) result revealed the presence of cubic perovskite phase of ZnTiO3. The unique chain-like morphology of ZnTiO3 was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). UV–Vis diffusive reflection spectra of ZnTiO3 indicated that the absorbance obviously increased in the visible light region. The degradation rate of methyl orange solution (15 mg/L) reached 95.3% over ZnTiO3 (0.3 g/L) after 20 min xenon light irradiation, which was higher than that using the commercial catalyst P25 under the same reaction condition. The degradation kinetic results follow the first-order equation and the rate constant is 0.1020.

Abstract:Thermal control coatings (TCCs) are an essential part of the thermal control systems in the spacecraft. Solar absorptance and emittance are the key performance parameters of TCCs. To develop an ultra-low solar absorption and stable inorganic TCCs for surface radiator, different TCCs were prepared by co-sintering ZnO and SiO2 nanoparticles to form Zn2SiO4/SiO2 pigment in this work, and the optical properties and radiation stability were systematically studied. It is found that the coating based on composite pigment has high reflectivity in the ultraviolet band and excellent optical performance possessing the low solar absorption of 0.06. In addition, the Zn2SiO4/SiO2 coating demonstrates the highest proton and electron radiation stability because that SiO2 between Zn2SiO4 particles acts as the relaxation center of the defects caused by radiation.

Abstract:TiO2 nano thin film and TiO2/ZnFe2O4 nano composite thin film were prepared on glass substrate by dip coating process. The films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photo-electron spectrum (XPS), atom force microscope (AFM), Uv-vis spectroscope, etc. The obtained films were analyzed and were proved to be anatase alone. At the same time, the photo absorption edge of the composite film was red-shifting. Finally, photocatalytic decomposition properties of methylene blue were tested and discussed.

Abstract:Transparent, smooth and dense zinc tin oxide (ZTO) thin films have been successfully produced by using a new precursor solution, zinc acetate and tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate mixed with 2-ethanolamine in methoxyethanol. The ZTO films have been prepared by spin-coating, followed by thermal treatment in oxygen atmosphere. The morphology, composition, crystallinity and band gap energy (Eg) of the ZTO thin films have been characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Atomic Emission Spectrometry (AES), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and UV-vis spectrophotometry. The conductivity of ZTO is about 9.8 × 10 −9 S/cm, as estimated from the current-voltage ( I -V) curve. The effect of the thermal treatment process on the morphology of ZTO thin films is also discussed.

Abstract:The ZnO-CeO2-TiO2 composite oxide was rapidly synthesized by the combustion method using ascorbic acid as a new combustion agent. The composites were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, UV-visible and SEM. The experiments investigated the effect of molar ratio of burning agent, zinc, titanium and cerium ions on ZnO-CeO2-TiO2 (ZCT) composite. The ZnO-CeO2-TiO2 composite oxide with various morphologies, ultraviolet absorbing, photocatalytic and decolouring properties were obtained by changing molar ratio of burning agent, zinc, titanium and cerium ions. The composite oxide exhibited better properties of ultraviolet absorption, Light-stability of modified ZCT/paraffin wax and decolouration. Its ultraviolet properties are completely different from any monomer oxide. The composite oxide has better photocatalytic properties when molar ratio of burning agent, zinc, titanium and cerium ions is 8:4:0.25:1. Inorganic UV-shielding agent is firstly applied to improve light-stability of paraffin wax. The composite was modified in order to inorganic UV-shielding agent and paraffin wax can be mutually mixed.
