Abstract:This paper discusses linear processes with innovations exhibiting asymptotic weak dependence by being strong near-epoch dependent functions of mixing processes. The functional central limit theorem for the normalized partial sum process is established. The conditions given essentially improve on existing results in the literature in terms of the “size” requirement for the amount of dependence. It is also shown that two important econometric models, ARMA and GARCH models, are strong near-epoch dependent sequences.

Abstract:Central limit theorems (CLTs) have a long history in probability and statistics. They play a fundamental role in constructing valid statistical inference procedures. Over the last century, various techniques have been developed in probability and statistics to prove CLTs under a variety of assumptions on random variables. Quantitative versions of CLTs (e.g., Berry--Esseen bounds) have also been parallelly developed. In this article, we propose to use approximation theory from functional analysis to derive explicit bounds on the difference between expectations of functions.

We prove that if $1 / f(x, z)$ is twice differentiable, then there exists a constant $\mu$ such that the distribution of $(Y_n - \mu n) / \sqrt{n}$ converges weakly to a normal distribution as $n \to \infty$. If $Y_n = X_1 + \cdots + X_n$, where $(X_n)_n$ are i.i.d. random variables, then we recover the classical (Lindeberg$\unicode{x2013}$Lévy) central limit theorem. Abstract:The purpose of this paper is the proof of an almost everywhere version of the classical central limit theorem (CLT). As is well known, the latter states that for IID random variables Y 1 , Y 2 , ... on a probability space (Ω, , P ) with we have weak convergence of the distributions of to the standard normal distribution on R. We recall that weak convergence of finite measures μ n on a metric space S to a finite measure μ on S is defined to mean that for all bounded, continuous real functions on S . Equivalently, one may require the validity of (1·1) only for bounded, uniformly continuous real functions, or even for all bounded measurable real functions which are μ-a.e. continuous.

Abstract:In $1946$, Mark Kac proved a Central Limit type theorem for a sequence of random variables that were not independent. The random variables under consideration were obtained from the angle-doubling map. The idea behind Kac's proof was to show that although the random variables under consideration were not independent, they were what he calls \textit{statistically independent} (in modern terminology, this concept is called long range independence). The final conclusion of his paper was that the sample averages of the random variables, suitably normalized converges to the standard normal distribution. We describe a new proof of Mark Kac's result by applying Stein's method and show that the normalized sample averages converge to the standard normal distribution in the Wasserstein metric, which is stronger than the convergence in distribution.

Stochastic Processes and their Applications

Abstract:<p>We rigorously prove a central limit theorem for neural network models with a single hidden layer. The central limit theorem is proven in the asymptotic regime of simultaneously (A) large numbers of hidden units and (B) large numbers of stochastic gradient descent training iterations. Our result describes the neural network's fluctuations around its mean-field limit. The fluctuations have a Gaussian distribution and satisfy a stochastic partial differential equation. The proof relies upon weak convergence methods from stochastic analysis. In particular, we prove relative compactness for the sequence of processes and uniqueness of the limiting process in a suitable Sobolev space.</p>

Abstract:The problem of estimating the number of summands of random variables for a total normal distribution law or a sample average with a normal distribution is investigated. The Central limit theorem allows us to solve many complex applied problems using the developed mathematical apparatus of the normal probability distribution. Otherwise, we would have to operate with convolutions of distributions that are explicitly calculated in rare cases. The purpose of this paper is to theoretically estimate the number of terms of the Central limit theorem necessary for the sum or sample average to have a normal probability distribution law. The article proves two theorems and two consequences of them. The method of characteristic functions is used to prove theorems. The first theorem States the conditions under which the average sample of independent terms will have a normal distribution law with a given accuracy. The corollary of the first theorem determines the normal distribution for the sum of independent random variables under the conditions of theorem 1. The second theorem defines the normal distribution conditions for the average sample of independent random variables whose mathematical expectations fall in the same interval, and whose variances also fall in the same interval. The corollary of the second theorem determines the normal distribution for the sum of independent random variables under the conditions of theorem 2. According to the formula relations proved in theorem 1, a table of the required number of terms in the Central limit theorem is calculated to ensure the specified accuracy of approximation of the distribution of the values of the sample average to the normal distribution law. A graph of this dependence is constructed. The dependence is well approximated by a polynomial of the sixth degree. The relations and proved theorems obtained in the article are simple, from the point of view of calculations, and allow controlling the testing process for evaluating students ' knowledge. They make it possible to determine the number of experts when making collective decisions in the economy and organizational management systems, to conduct optimal selective quality control of products, to carry out the necessary number of observations and reasonable diagnostics in medicine.
