Abstract:Let B be a separable Banach space, Suppose that (F. F-t, greater than or equal to 1) is a sequence of independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) and symmetrical (s.i.s.) B-valued random measures. We first establish the central limit theorem for Y-n = 1/rootn Sigma(i=1)(n) F-t by taking the viewpoint of random linear functionals on Schwartz distribution spaces, Then let (X, X-i, i greater than or equal to 1) be a sequence of i.i.d. symmetric B-valued random vectors and (B, B-i, i greater than or equal to 1) a sequence of independent standard Brownian motions on [0,1] independent of (X, X-t, i greater than or equal to 1). The central limit theorem for measure-valued processes Z(n)(t) = 1/rootn Sigma(i=1)(n) X(i)delta(Bi)(t). t is an element of [0, 1], will be investigated in the same frame. Our main results concerning Y-n differ front D. H. Thang's [Probab. Theory Related Fields, 88 (1991), pp. 1-16] in that we take into account F as a whole: while the results related to Z(n) are extensions of I. Mitoma [Ann. Probab., 11 (1983), pp. 989 099] to random weighted mass.
Conditioned random walks on linear groups II: local limit theorems

Abstract:We investigate random walks on the general linear group constrained within a specific domain, with a focus on their asymptotic behavior. In a previous work [21], we constructed the associated harmonic measure, a key element in formulating the local limit theorem for conditioned random walks on groups. The primary aim of this paper is to prove this theorem. The main challenge arises from studying the conditioned reverse walk, whose increments, in the context of random walks on groups, depend on the entire future. To achieve our goal, we combine a Caravenna-type conditioned local limit theorem with the conditioned version of the central limit theorem for the reversed walk. The resulting local limit theorem is then applied to derive the local behavior of the exit time.

Abstract:Let $(g_n)_{n\geq 1}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random elements with law $\mu$ on the general linear group $\textrm{GL}(V)$, where $V=\mathbb R^d$. Consider the random walk $G_n : = g_n \ldots g_1$, $n \geq 1$, and the coefficients $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$, where $v \in V$ and $f \in V^*$. Under suitable moment assumptions on $\mu$, we prove the strong and weak laws of large numbers and the central limit theorem for $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$, which improve the previous results established under the exponential moment condition on $\mu$. We further demonstrate the Berry-Esseen bound, the Edgeworth expansion, the Cramér type moderate deviation expansion and the local limit theorem with moderate deviations for $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$ under the exponential moment condition. Under a subexponential moment condition on $\mu$, we also show a Berry-Esseen type bound and the moderate deviation principle for $\langle f, G_n v \rangle$. Our approach is based on various versions of the Hölder regularity of the invariant measure of the Markov chain $G_n \!\cdot \! x = \mathbb R G_n v$ on the projective space of $V$ with the starting point $x = \mathbb R v$.

Abstract:We formulate and establish the central limit theorem for products of i.i.d. random variables on arbitrary simply connected nilpotent Lie groups, allowing a possible bias. Two new phenomena arise in the presence of a bias: (a) the walk spreads out at a higher rate in the ambient group, (b) the limiting hypoelliptic diffusion process may not have full support. We study the limiting distribution, prove estimates on its density and describe its support. We also establish corresponding Berry-Esseen bounds under optimal moment assumptions, as well as an analogue of Donsker's invariance principle. Various examples of nilpotent Lie groups are treated in detail showing the variety of different behaviours. We also obtain a characterization of when the limiting distribution is an ordinary gaussian and answer a question of Tutubalin from the 1960s regarding asymptotically close distributions on nilpotent Lie groups.

A local central limit theorem for random walks on expander graphs

Abstract:There is a long history of establishing central limit theorems for Markov chains. Quantitative bounds for chains with a spectral gap were proved by Mann and refined later. Recently, rates of convergence for the total variation distance were obtained for random walks on expander graphs, which are often used to generate sequences satisfying desirable pseudorandom properties. We prove a local central limit theorem with an explicit rate of convergence for random walks on expander graphs, and derive an improved bound for the total variation distance.

Abstract:We consider a non-nestling random walk in a product random environment. We assume an exponential moment for the step of the walk, uniformly in the environment. We prove an invariance principle (functional central limit theorem) under almost every environment for the centered and diffusively scaled walk. The main point behind the invariance principle is that the quenched mean of the walk behaves subdiffusively.

Abstract:The central limit theorem of martingales is the fundamental tool for studying the convergence of stochastic processes, especially stochastic integrals and differential equations. In this paper, the central limit theorem and the functional central limit theorem are obtained for martingale-like random variables under the sub-linear expectation. As applications, the Lindeberg’s central limit theorem is obtained for independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables, and a new proof of the Lévy characterization of a GBrownian motion without using stochastic calculus is given. For proving the results, Rosenthal’s inequality and the exponential inequality for the martingale-like random variables are established.

Abstract:Let $X_1, X_2, \dots$ be independent, identically distributed random variables taking values from a compact metrizable group $G$. We prove that the random walk $S_k=X_1 X_2 \cdots X_k$, $k=1,2,\dots$ equidistributes in any given Borel subset of $G$ with probability $1$ if and only if $X_1$ is not supported on any proper closed subgroup of $G$, and $S_k$ has an absolutely continuous component for some $k \ge 1$. More generally, the sum $\sum_{k=1}^N f(S_k)$, where $f:G \to \mathbb{R}$ is Borel measurable, is shown to satisfy the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm. We also prove the central limit theorem with remainder term for the same sum, and construct an almost sure approximation of the process $\sum_{k \le t} f(S_k)$ by a Wiener process provided $S_k$ converges to the Haar measure in the total variation metric.

Abstract:Quantum walks, mathematical models referred to as the quantum counterparts of random walks, have garnered significant attention in recent years with the advancement of quantum computing. The weak limit theorem for quantum walks, analogous to the central limit theorem for random walks, is one of the most important theorems in this field. In this study, we investigated the weak limit theorem for a two-state discrete-time quantum walk on a two-dimensional square lattice. As a result, we derived a two-dimensional probability distribution whose support is the intersection of two ellipses. The probability distribution we obtained resembles the distribution of one-dimensional quantum walks while possessing a unique form specific to two dimensions.

Abstract:We study the minimal random walk introduced by Kumar, Harbola and Lindenberg. It is a random process on $\{0, 1, \ldots \}$ with unbounded memory which exhibits subdiffusive, diffusive and superdiffusive regimes. We prove the law of large numbers for the whole parameter set. Then we prove the central limit theorem and the law of the iterated logarithm for the minimal random walk under diffusive and marginally superdiffusive behaviors. More interestingly, we establish a result for the minimal random walk when it possesses the three regimes; we show the convergence of its rescaled version to a non-normal random variable.

We prove that if $1 / f(x, z)$ is twice differentiable, then there exists a constant $\mu$ such that the distribution of $(Y_n - \mu n) / \sqrt{n}$ converges weakly to a normal distribution as $n \to \infty$. If $Y_n = X_1 + \cdots + X_n$, where $(X_n)_n$ are i.i.d. random variables, then we recover the classical (Lindeberg$\unicode{x2013}$Lévy) central limit theorem. Central Limit Theorem for Linear Eigenvalue Statistics of non-Hermitian Random Matrices

Abstract:We consider large non-Hermitian random matrices $X$ with complex, independent, identically distributed centred entries and show that the linear statistics of their eigenvalues are asymptotically Gaussian for test functions having $2+\epsilon$ derivatives. Previously this result was known only for a few special cases; either the test functions were required to be analytic [Rider, Silverstein 2006], or the distribution of the matrix elements needed to be Gaussian [Rider, Virág 2007], or at least match the Gaussian up to the first four moments [Tao, Vu 2016; Kopel 2015]. We find the exact dependence of the limiting variance on the fourth cumulant that was not known before. The proof relies on two novel ingredients: (i) a local law for a product of two resolvents of the Hermitisation of $X$ with different spectral parameters and (ii) a coupling of several weakly dependent Dyson Brownian Motions. These methods are also the key inputs for our analogous results on the linear eigenvalue statistics of real matrices $X$ that are presented in the companion paper [Cipolloni, Erdős, Schröder 2019].

Abstract:We consider the determinantal point processes associated with the spectral projectors of a Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}$, with a smooth confining potential. In the semiclassical limit, where the number of particles tends to infinity, we obtain a Szegő-type central limit theorem (CLT) for the fluctuations of smooth linear statistics. More precisely, the Laplace transform of any statistic converges without renormalization to a Gaussian limit with a $H^{1/2}$-type variance, which depends on the potential. In the one-well (one-cut) case, using the quantum action-angle theorem and additional micro-local tools, we reduce the problem to the asymptotics of Fredholm determinants of certain approximately Toeplitz operators. In the multi-cut case, we show that for generic potentials, a similar result holds and the contributions of each wells are independent in the limit.

Abstract:We discuss a central limit theorem in the framework of the group algebra of the Thompson group $F$. We consider the sequence of self-adjoint elements given by $a_n=\frac{g_n+g_n^{*}}{\sqrt{2}}$ in the noncommutative probability space $(\mathbb{C}(F),\varphi)$, where the expectation functional $\varphi$ is the trace associated to the left regular representation of $F$, and the $g_n$-s are the generators of $F$ in its standard infinite presentation. We show that the limit law of the sequence $s_n = \frac{a_0+\cdots+a_{n-1}}{\sqrt{n}}$ is the standard normal distribution.
