Abstract:Based on the properties of the rank of the matrix polynomial,the necessary and sufficient conditions of generalized m involutory matrix and(m,l) idempotent matrix were obtained so as to generalize and improve the corresponding results of m involutory matrix and m-idempotent matrix.

Abstract:A necessary and sufficient condition was presented for the quadratic stability of interval matrices and a related calculation method of stability margin. The results were obtained in terms of LMIs. With the powerful LMI toolbox, it was very convenient to solve this problem. Examples showed that this method is effective in determining the robust stability and related stability margin of interval matrices.

Abstract:A matrix over ring with identity has the consecutive-column (CC) property if for all k, all its relevant submatrices having k consecutive rows and the first k columns are invertible. Similarly, the consecutive-row (CR) is defined. In this paper, we show that a arbitrary m x n matrix has both CC and CR properties if and only if it admits a certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This factorization is unique. We also show that there is a mutual 1 - 1 relations between the matrices having CC and CR properties and this certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This bidiagonal factorization has important applications in computer aided geometry design, electrical network and many other fields.

Abstract:In this paper, the gap function for a new class of generalized vector variational inequal- ities with point-to-set mappings (for short, GVVI) is introduced and the necessary and sufficient conditions for the GVVI are established. Furthermore, under certain pseudomonotonicity condi- tion and hemicontinuity condition, we obtain the existence theorems for the GVVI. The results presented in this paper are new and extend corresponding results in this field.

Abstract:It is important to study idempotent matrix and the linear combination of them in matrix theory and statistics. Under the condition of,let A be an idempotent matrix and B be an arbitrary complex matrix,then the sufficient and necessary conditions are given in which the linear combination is an idempotent matrix.And the results are directly used to obtain the following conclusions:When A and B are idempotent matrixes,the conditions of the sum,difference,product of A and B are still as idempotent matrix;The relationship of the image of linear transformation and kernel of A and B's sum,difference,product are respective with the image of linear transformation and kernel of A and B.Let A be an idempotent matrix and B be an arbitrary complex matrix,the sufficient and necessary conditions are given in which the image of linear transformation is obtained and kernel of A is invariant subspace of B.

Abstract:Tian and Styan have shown many rank equalities for the sum of two and three idempotent matrices and pointed out that rank equalities for the sum P 1 + ⋯ + P k with P 1 , ... , P k be idempotent ( k > 3 ) are still open. In this paper, by using block Gaussian elimination, we obtained rank equalities for the sum of finitely many idempotent matrices and then solved the open problem mentioned above. Extensions to scalar-potent matrices and some related matrices are also included.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the problem of the operation law of the generalized inverse. The concepts of the mixed first and second absorption laws about the generalized inverse are proposed. By using the concept of generalized Schur complement and the matrix rank method, the extremal ranks of matrix expressions which are associated with the mixed second absorption law are investigated, and the formulas of the maximal and minimal ranks of these matrix expressions are derived. Furthermore, the necessary and sufficient conditions of the mixed second absorption laws on {1}-inverse and {1, 3}- inverse, {1}-inverse and {1, 4}-inverse are established by using these formulas.

Abstract:Consider the nonlinear matrix equation X-sum_{i=1}^{m}A_{i}^{*}X^{p_{i}}A_{i}=Q with p_{i}>0. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of positive definite solutions to the equation with p_{i}>0 are derived. Two perturbation bounds for the unique solution to the equation with 0<p_{i}<1 are evaluated. The backward error of an approximate solution for the unique solution to the equation with 0<p_{i}<1 is given. Explicit expressions of the condition number for the equation with 0<p_{i}<1 are obtained. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the dual matrix <math>M^</math> to have the dual Moore-Penrose generalized inverse (for short DMPGI) and give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Moore-Penrose dual generalized inverse (for short MPDGI) of <math>M^</math> to be a DMPGI of <math>M^</math>. At last, a compact formula for the computation of the DMPGI is given.

Abstract:The square matrices A and B over the complex field C are said to be scalar-involutory matrices if A~2=λ~2I and B~2=μ~2I,whereλμ≠0.When all nonzero scalars a,b,u,v∈C satisfying aλ+bμ≠0 and uλ+vμ≠0,we proved the rank for the linear combination of a pair of scalar-involutory matrices A,B and a identity matrix I is constant and independent on the choice of a,b,u and v.Then the corresponding results of involutory matrices in previous literatures are generalized by the invariance of rank for linear combinations of scalar-involutory matrices.
A Matrix Generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya Rearrangement Inequality and Its Applications

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya rearrangement inequality to positive definite matrices. The inequality can be seen as a commutation principle in the sense of Iusem and Seeger. An important instrument in the proof is a first-order perturbation formula for a certain spectral function, which could be of independent interests. The inequality is then extended to rectangular matrices. Using our main results, we derive new inequalities for several distance-like functions encountered in various signal processing or machine learning applications.

Abstract:Newton's inequalities $c_n^2 \ge c_{n-1}c_{n+1}$ are shown to hold for the normalized coefficients $c_n$ of the characteristic polynomial of any $M$- or inverse $M$-matrix. They are derived by establishing first an auxiliary set of inequalities also valid for both of these classes. They are also used to derive some new necessary conditions on the eigenvalues of nonnegative matrices.

Abstract:If $A$ is an n-by-n matrix over a field $F$ ($A\in M_{n}(F)$), then $A$ is said to ``have an LU factorization'' if there exists a lower triangular matrix $L\in M_{n}(F)$ and an upper triangular matrix $U\in M_{n}(F)$ such that $$A=LU.$$ We give necessary and sufficient conditions for LU factorability of a matrix. Also simple algorithm for computing an LU factorization is given. It is an extension of the Gaussian elimination algorithm to the case of not necessarily invertible matrices. We consider possibilities to factors a matrix that does not have an LU factorization as the product of an ``almost lower triangular'' matrix and an ``almost upper triangular'' matrix. There are many ways to formalize what almost means. We consider some of them and derive necessary and sufficient conditions. Also simple algorithms for computing of an ``almost LU factorization'' are given.

Abstract:For a given p×q complex matrix C , a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for the existence of a matrix X satisfying JpX−XJq=C , here Jr denotes the r×r Jordan block of 0. An easy construction of the solution X is given if it exists. These results lead to a proof of the fact that a nilpotent matrix is similar to a direct sum of Jordan blocks.

Abstract:In this article, we define a new preinvex mapping known as the exponentially ( h , m ) -preinvex. We explore the properties of this mapping, and derive several Φ k -Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals inequalities through exponentially ( h , m ) -preinvexity. Using these results, we present certain estimates for Hermite–Hadamard-type inequalities, and also deduce several inequalities for the fractional integrals of k-Riemann–Liouville, which are special cases of the main results. During this period, we give several numerical examples to further demonstrate the correctness of our main results. As applications, we propose a few inequalities according to special means.
