Abstract:The replacement of the casting process by the rolling process to produce electrode grids in lead-acid batteries has dramatically reduced their manufacturing costs. Although in recent years the performance of these batteries has improved, corrosion of the grids remains one of the causes of premature failure . In this work, the influence of rolling process parameters, such as speed and temperature, on the corrosion of these electrodes is evaluated and compared with that of grids manufactured by the traditional casting process. The results show an increase in the corrosion rate of rolled gratings with increasing rolling speed. On the other hand, those that undergo cooling before the rolling process show a low corrosion rate compared to the analyzed samples. Finally, comparing the results, the gratings manufactured by casting present a higher corrosion rate, indicating that the gratings obtained by the rolling process have a longer useful life.
