Abstract:Shock damage threshold measurement (SDT), a special approach for studying the behavior of the samples under severe conditions, is used to ascertain the mechanical properties of the samples for usage in device applications. Sulphamic acid (HSO 3 NH 2 ) is a potential material that exhibits excellent piezoelectric and non-linear optical properties. The conventional slow evaporation method (SEST) was used to yield clear single crystals of pyridine-2-carboxylic acid added sulphamic acid. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) was performed to confirm the sample's crystal structure and lattice parameters, indicating that the crystal represents an orthorhombic system with the Pbca space group. Vickers microhardness indenter was employed to investigate the mechanical strength of the crystal along constants like Mayer's index ( n ) were computed. A methodical study of the structural, optical, and surface morphological aspects of the formed crystal was undertaken before and after the usage of varying numbers of shock pulses (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10) with Mach number of 1.7. When subjected to shock waves, the test crystal's crystalline nature and optical transmission exhibit increased value for the second shock wave in comparison to the pre-shock. To investigate the surface stability of the test material to the influence of shock waves, morphological tests have been done utilizing optical micrograph analysis. The results from the various studies suggest that the grown P-2-CASA sample is the appropriate for use in electronic device fabrications designed to operate at high temperatures and pressures.
