Abstract:Strain Ery9(T), isolated from surface seawater of the Atlantic Ocean, and strain Ery22(T), isolated from deep-sea sediment of the Indian Ocean, were subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. Cells of the two strains were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped. They produced yellow pigments and lacked bacteriochlorophyll a. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain Ery9T was closely related to Croceicoccus naphthovorans PQ-2(T) (with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 97.7 %), and strain Ery22T was closely related to Croceicoccus marinus E4A9(T) (98.3 %). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain Ery9T and strain Ery22(T) was 96.6 %. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that strains Ery9(T) and Ery22(T) fell within the cluster of the genus Croceicoccus and represented two independent lineages. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) values and the genome-to-genome distances between strains Ery9(T) and Ery22(T) and the type strains of species of the genus Croceicoccus with validly published names were 73.7-78.4% and 20.1-22.3 %, respectively. The major respiratory quinone of the two isolates was ubiquinone-10 (Q-10). The DNA G+C contents of strains Ery9(T) and Ery22(T) were 62.8 and 62.5 mol%, respectively. Differential phylogenetic distinctiveness and chemotaxonomic differences, together with phenotypic properties, revealed that strains Ery9(T) and Ery22(T) could be differentiated from their closely related species. Therefore, it is concluded that strains Ery9(T) and Ery22(T) represent two novel species of the genus Croceicoccus, for which the names Croceicoccus pelagius sp. nov. (type strain Ery9(T) =CGMCC 1.15358(T) =DSM 101479(T)) and Croceicoccus mobilis sp. nov. (type strain Ery22(T) =CGMCC 1.15360(T) =DSM 101481(T)), are proposed.

Abstract:Two aerobic, Gram-negative, non-motile, non-sporulating, yellow-pigmented bacteria, strains TH92(T) and TH91, were isolated from a hot spring located in Laibin, Guangxi, in the south-eastern geothermal area of China. The isolates grew at 40-77 degrees C (optimally at 70 degrees C) and at pH 6.0-9.5 (optimally at pH 7.5-8.0). Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences and levels of DNA-DNA relatedness together indicated that the new isolates represented a novel species of the genus Thermus with closest affinity to Thermus aquaticus, Thermus igniterrae and Thermus thermophilus. Compared with their closest relatives, strains TH92( T) and TH91 were able to assimilate a wider range of carbohydrates, amino acids and organic acids as sole carbon sources for growth, such as lactose and melibiose. The new isolates had lower combined levels of C(16 : 0 ) and iso-C(16 : 0) compared with their closest relatives. On the basis of polyphasic taxonomic characterization, strains TH92(T) and TH91 are considered to represent a single novel species of the genus Thermus, for which the name Thermus arciformis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TH92(T) (=CGMCC 1.6992(T) =JCM 15153(T)).

Abstract:Two Gram-negative, motile, aerobic bacterial strains, designated B2(T) and 1_C16_27(T), were respectively isolated from a seawater sample collected from the East China Sea and a semi-coke sample from north-eastern Estonia. Their genetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic properties were studied. The isolates were short rods with polar flagella and were positive for catalase and oxidase activities. Q-10 was the predominant respiratory ubiquinone. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and two unidentified glycolipids. The major fatty acids were nonadecanoic (C(19 : 0) cyclo), octadecanoic (C(18 : 0) and C(18 : 0) 3-OH), octadecenoic (C(18 : 1)) and hexadecanoic (C(16 : 0)) acids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 58.1-59.3 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that the two isolates represent a distinct lineage within the family Hyphomicrobiaceae. The phylogenetically closest relatives were Cucumibacter (92.7-93.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Devosia (92.9-94.4 %) and Zhangella (91.7-92.1 %). Differential phenotypic properties, together with phylogenetic and genetic distinctiveness, revealed that strains B2(T) and 1_C16_27(T) could be differentiated from each other and from members of the genera Cucumibacter, Devosia and Zhangella. Therefore, it is proposed that strains B2(T) and 1_C16_27(T) represent two novel species in a new genus, for which the names Pelagibacterium halotolerans gen. nov., sp. nov. (the type species; type strain B2(T) = CGMCC 1.7692(T) = JCM 15775(T)) and Pelagibacterium luteolum sp. nov. (type strain 1_C16_27(T) = CGMCC 1.10267(T) = JCM 16552(T) = CELMS EEUT 1C1627(T)) are proposed.

Abstract:A bacteriochlorophyll-containing bacterium, designated as strain N10T, was isolated from a terrestrial hot spring in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Gram-stain-negative, oxidase- and catalase-positive and ovoid to rod-shaped cells showed the features of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria, i.e., strain N10T synthesised bacteriochlorophylls under aerobic conditions and could not grow anaerobically even under illumination. Genome analysis found genes for bacteriochlorophyll and carotenoid biosynthesis, light-harvesting complexes and type-2 photosynthetic reaction centre in the chromosome. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence and 92 core proteins revealed that strain N10T was located in a distinct lineage near the type species of the genera Tabrizicola and Xinfangfangia and some species in the genus Rhodobacter (e.g., Rhodobacter blasticus). Strain N10T shared < 97.1% 16S rRNA gene sequence identity with those species in the family Rhodobacteraceae. The digital DNA–DNA hybridisation, average nucleotide identity and average amino acid identity values with the relatives, Tabrizicola aquatica RCRI19T (an aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacterium), Xinfangfangia soli ZQBWT and R. blasticus ATCC 33485T were 19.9–20.7%, 78.2–79.1% and 69.1–70.1%, respectively. Based on the phenotypic features, major fatty acid and polar lipid compositions, genome sequence and phylogenetic position, a novel genus and species are proposed for strain N10T, to be named Neotabrizicola shimadae (= JCM 34381T = DSM 112087T). Strain N10T which is phylogenetically located among aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria (Tabrizicola), bacteriochlorophyll-deficient bacteria (Xinfangfangia) and anaerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria (Rhodobacter) has great potential to promote studies on the evolution of photosynthesis in Rhodobacteraceae.

Abstract:A Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile and rod–coccus shaped novel actinobacterial strain, designated as TG9 T , was isolated from a polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated sediment in Taizhou city, Zhejiang province, eastern China. The isolate was observed to grow at 10–45 °C (optimum 28–32 °C), pH 5.0–11.0 (optimum pH 7.0–8.0) and with 0–9.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0–3.0 %). Comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of strain TG9 T and other members of the genus Rhodococcus showed that strain TG9 T shared highest similarities with Rhodococcus pyridinivorans DSM 44555 T (99.4 %), R. rhodochrous DSM 43241 T (99.2 %), R. gordoniae DSM 44689 T (99.2 %) and R. artemisiae DSM 45380 T (98.2 %). However, low levels of DNA–DNA relatedness (15–48 %), which are below the 70 % limit for prokaryotic species identification, were obtained by DNA–DNA hybridization. Strain TG9 T was found to contain meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid and arabinose and galactose in the whole-cell hydrolysate. Mycolic acids were found to be present. The major fatty acids were identified as C 16:0 , C 16:1 ω 7 c and/or iso-C 15:0 2-OH, 10-methyl C 18:0 and C 18:1 ω 9 c . The only menaquinone detected was MK-8 (H 2 ). The major polar lipids detected were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, glycolipid and traces of some unknown lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain TG9 T was determined to be 62.8 %. The combined phenotypic and genotypic data show that the strain represents a novel species of the genus Rhodococcus for which the name Rhodococcus biphenylivorans sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain TG9 T (=CGMCC 1.12975 T = KCTC 29673 T = MCCC 1K00286 T ).

Abstract:A strictly aerobic, Gram-stain-positive, motile and spore-forming bacterium, strain 3nP4(T), was isolated from the Puge hot spring located in the south-western geothermal area of China. Strain 3nP4(T) grew at 38-66 °C (optimum 57-60 °C), at pH 6.0-9.3 (optimum 7.0-7.5) and with 0-4 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0-0.5 %). Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences, as well as DNA-DNA relatedness values, indicated that the isolate represents a novel species of the genus Anoxybacillus, related most closely to Anoxybacillus voinovskiensis DSM 12111(T). Strain 3nP4(T) had diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and one unidentified phospholipid as major polar lipids and iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 as major fatty acids, which are both typical chemotaxonomic characteristics of the genus Anoxybacillus. The mean DNA G+C content of strain 3nP4(T) was 39.2±0.95 mol% (HPLC). A distinctive characteristic of the novel isolate was its extreme reliance on vitamin mixture or yeast extract for growth. Based on data from this taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach, strain 3nP4(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Anoxybacillus, for which the name Anoxybacillus vitaminiphilus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 3nP4(T) ( = CGMCC 1.8979(T) = JCM 16594(T)).

Abstract:Three strains (JA826T, JA912T and JA913), which were yellowish brown colour, rod to oval shaped, Gram-stain-negative, motile, phototrophic bacteria with a vesicular architecture of intracytoplasmic membranes, were isolated from different pond samples. The DNA G+C content of the three strains was between 64.6 and 65.5 mol%. The highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of all three strains was with the type strains of the genus Rhodobacter sensu stricto in the family Rhodobacteraceae. Strain JA826T had highest sequence similarity with Rhodobacter maris JA276T (98.5 %), Rhodobacter viridis JA737T (97.5 %) and other members of the genus Rhodobacter (<97 %). Strain JA912T had highest sequence similarity with Rhodobacter viridis JA737T (99.6 %), Rhodobacter sediminis N1T (99.3 %), Rhodobacter capsulatus ATCC 11166T (98.8 %) and less than 97 % similarity with other members of the genus Rhodobacter. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strains JA826T and JA912T was 96.9 %. DNA-DNA hybridization showed that strains JA826T and JA912T (values among themselves and between the type strains of nearest members <44 %) did not belong to any of the nearest species of the genus Rhodobacter. However, strains JA912T and JA913 were closely related (DNA-DNA hybridization value >90 %). The genomic distinction was also supported by differences in phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics in order to propose strains JA826T (=KCTC 15478T=LMG 28758T) and JA912T (=KCTC 15475T=LMG 28748T) as new species in the genus Rhodobacter sensu stricto with the names Rhodobacter lacus and Rhodobacter azollae, respectively.

Abstract:A Gram-stain negative, aerobic, non-motile and ovoid- to rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated JB3 T , was isolated from a wastewater sample collected from the biochemical reaction basin of Haiyan fine chemical factory in Zhejiang, China. Strain JB3 T was found to grow optimally at pH 7.0–8.0, at 28 °C and in the presence of 1.0–2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Chemotaxonomic analysis showed that strain JB3 T contains ubiquinone-10 (>99 %) as the predominant respiratory quinone and C 18:1 ω 7 c (70.9 %) as the most abundant fatty acid. The polar lipids of strain JB3 T were identified as phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, an aminophospholipid, an unidentified aminolipid, four unidentified phospholipids and three unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain JB3 T was determined to be 68.1 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities between the isolate and Roseovarius crassostreae DSM 16950 T , Roseovarius sediminilitoris KCTC 23959 T and Roseovarius halocynthiae MA1-10 T were found to be 97.1, 96.8 and 96.2 %, respectively. Morevoer, the similarity between strain JB3 T and the type strain of the genus Roseovarius ( Roseovarius tolerans DSM 11457 T ) was found to be 93.8 %. The phylogenetic trees reconstructed with all three treeing methods showed that strain JB3 T constituted a different taxon, which was separate from other taxa with validly published names, and formed a cluster with R. crassostreae DSM 16950 T , R. sediminilitoris KCTC 23959 T and R. halocynthiae MA1-10 T . These three species were not placed within the phylogenetic cluster formed by R. tolerans DSM 11457 T . Differential phenotypic properties, together with the phylogenetic distinctiveness, demonstrated that strain JB3 T is clearly distinct from species of the genus Roseovarius . On the basis of these features, we propose strain JB3 T represents a novel species of a novel genus with the name Pseudoroseovarius zhejiangensis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain is JB3 T (=MCCC 1K00457 T = KCTC 42443 T ). We also propose that R. crassostreae , R. sediminilitoris and R. halocynthiae should be transferred to this new genus as Pseudoroseovarius crassostreae comb. nov., Pseudoroseovarius sediminilitoris comb. nov. and Pseudoroseovarius halocynthiae comb. nov., respectively.

Abstract:A Gram-stain negative, pink-pigmented, strictly aerobic, non-motile and coccoid-shaped bacterial strain, designated TG-679T, was isolated from a deep-sea water sample collected from the South China Sea. Cells of strain TG-679T were catalase- and oxidase-positive, lacked bacteriochlorophyll a and carotenoid. Strain TG-679T was found to grow at 10-40 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 5.5-10.0 (optimum, pH 7.5) and with 0.5-2.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1.5 %). Chemotaxonomic analysis of strain TG-679T indicated that the sole respiratory quinone was Q-10, the predominant cellular fatty acid was C18 : 1ω7c, and the major polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, an unidentified phospholipid and two unidentified glycolipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain TG-679T was 65.9 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain TG-679T constituted a separated branch in the family Rhodobacteraceae. Differential phenotypic properties, together with phylogenetic distinctiveness, demonstrated that strain TG-679T is clearly distinct from any validly published genus. Based on polyphasic taxonomic characterization, strain TG-679T is considered to represent a novel species of a novel genus, for which the name Meridianimarinicoccus roseus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the species is TG-679T (=KCTC 62454T=MCCC 1K03496T).
Maribacter Thermophilus Sp Nov., Isolated From An Algal Bloom In An Intertidal Zone, And Emended Description Of The Genus Maribacter

Abstract:A novel facultatively anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative bacterium, designated strain HT7-2(T), was isolated from Ulva prolifera collected from the intertidal zone of Qingdao sea area, China, during its bloom. Cells were rod-shaped (1.9-3.5x0.4-0.6 mu m), non-sporulating and motile by gliding. Strain HT7-2(T) was able to grow at 4-50 degrees C (optimum 40-42 degrees C), pH 5.5-8.5 (optimum pH 7.0), 0-8 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 2-3 %) and 0.5-10% (w/v) sea salts (optimum 2.5 %). The genomic DNA G+C content was 38.8 mol%. The phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain HT7-2(T) belonged to the genus Maribacter with sequence similarity values of 94.5-96.6 %, and was most closely related to Maribacter aestuarii GY20(T) (96.6 %). Chemotaxonomic analysis showed that the main isoprenoid quinone was MK-6 and the major fatty acids were iso-C-15:0 and unknown equivalent chain-length 13.565. The polar lipids of strain HT7-2(T) consisted of one phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified lipids and one unidentified aminolipid. On the basis of the phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain HT7-2(T) (=CGMCC 1.12207(T)=JCM 18466(T)) is concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Maribacter, for which the name Maribacter thermophilus sp. nov. is proposed. An emended description of the genus Maribacter is also proposed.

Abstract:Two Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, ovoid to short rod-shaped bacterial strains, designated as WL0062 T and WL0115, were isolated from coastal zone of the Yellow Sea, Jiangsu Province, PR China, respectively. Strain WL0062 T grew optimally at 28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0 and with 1.0–3.0% (w/v) NaCl. Strain WL0115 grew optimally at 28 °C, pH 6.0–7.0 and with 1.0–3.0% (w/v) NaCl. In the bac120 tree, strains WL0062 T and WL0115 clustered together with Sedimentimonas flavescens B57 T . The respiratory quinone of both strains was ubiquinone-10. The major polar lipids of both strains were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, glycolipid, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, and one unidentified polar lipid. The major fatty acids of strain WL0062 T were summed features 8 (C 18 : 1 ω 6 c and/or C 18 : 1 ω 7 c ). The major fatty acids of strain WL0115 were summed features 8 (C 18 : 1 ω 6 c and/or C 18 : 1 ω 7 c ), C 18 : 0 , iso-C 17 : 1 ω 5 c and C 20 : 4 ω 6/9/12/15 c (arachidonic acid). The G+C content of genomic DNA of strains WL0062 T and WL0115 was 64.0 mol% in both of them. Combined with the analysis of average nucleotide identity, average amino acid identity, and digital DNA–DNA hybridization, strain WL0062 T represents a novel species of the genus Rhodobacter , for which the name Rhodobacter flavimaris sp. nov is proposed. The type strain is WL0062 T (=MCCC 1K06014 T =JCM 34676 T =GDMCC 1.2427 T ). Strain WL0115 (=MCCC 1K07531=JCM 35568=GDMCC 1.3088) should belong to the same species as Sedimentimonas flavescens B57 T . In addition, on the basis of phylogenomic relationship and phenotypical characteristics, the genera Paenirhodobacter , Sedimentimonas , and Sinirhodobacter are proposed as synonyms of Rhodobacter .

Abstract:A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic and moderately halophilic bacterium, designated strain MA-7-27(T), was isolated from a marine red alga, Porphyridium marinum, in the Republic of Korea. The cells of strain MA-7-27(T) were non-motile rods showing oxidase- and catalase-positive activities. Growth of strain MA-7-27(T) was observed at 15-45 degrees C (optimum, 30 degrees C), pH 5.0-9.0 (pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0.0-5.0 % (w/v) NaCl (2.0 %). Strain MA-7-27(T) contained C-10:0, summed feature 1 (comprising iso-C-15:1 h and/or C-13:1 3-OH) and summed feature 8 (comprising C-18:1 omega 7c and/or C-18:1 omega 6c) as the major fatty acids. The only isoprenoid quinone detected was ubiquinone-10. The major polar lipids of strain MA-7-27(T) were phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified aminolipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was approximately 63.6 mol%. Strain MA-7-27(T) was most closely related to the type strains of Boseongicola aestuarii BS-W15(T) and Nioella nitratireducens SSW136(T) with 96.98 % and 96.12 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, respectively, but phylogenetic analyses showed that strain MA-7-27(T) formed a clearly distinct phylogenic lineage from the closely related strains. The phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular properties support that strain MA-7-27(T) represents a novel genus of the family Rhodobacteraceae, for which the name Rhodophyticola porphyridii gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MA-7-27(T) (=KACC 18805(T) =JCM 31537(T)).
Photorhabdus viridis sp. nov. Isolated from Heterorhabditis zealandica Entomopathogenic Nematodes

Abstract:A novel bacterial species, Photorhabdus viridis sp. nov., represented by strain Green T , isolated from Heterorhabditis zealandica MJ2C entomopathogenic nematodes, is described. Phylogenetic reconstructions using 16S rRNA gene sequences show that strain Green T is closely related to P. thracensis DSM 15199 T . The 16rRNA gene sequences of these two strains are 98.8% identical. Phylogenetic reconstructions using whole-genome sequences show that strain Green T is closely related to P. tasmaniensis DSM 22387 T , P. thracensis DSM 15199 T , and P. temperata DSM 14550 T . Digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between strain Green T and its three more close relative species, P. tasmaniensis DSM 22387 T , P. thracensis DSM 15199 T , and P. temperata DSM 14550 T , are 49%, 59%, and 59%, respectively. In addition, average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between Green T and P. tasmaniensis DSM 22387 T , P. thracensis DSM 15199 T , and P. temperata DSM 14550 T are 92.4%, 94.4%, and 94.6%, respectively. The novel species also differs in their biochemical capacities from the biochemical capacities of their more closely related taxa. The following biochemical tests may be particularly useful in this context: Arginine dihydrolase, gelatinase, and glucose and mannitol oxidation. Given the clear phylogenetic separation, the sequence divergence values, and the phenotypic differences, we conclude that strain Green T represents a novel bacterial species, for which we propose the name Photorhabdus viridis sp. nov. with Green T (= CCM 9407 T = CCOS 2117 T = MJ2C T ) as the type strain. Our study contributes to a better understanding of the taxonomy and biodiversity of an important bacterial group with great biotechnological and agricultural potential.

Abstract:Our previous studies indicate the abundant and diverse presence of yet-to-be-cultured microorganisms in the micropore-filtered fractions of various environmental samples. Here, we isolated a novel bacterium (designated as strain TMPK1 T ) from a 0.45-μm-filtered soil suspension by using a gel-filled microwell array device comprising 900 microwells and characterized its phylogenetic and physiological features. This strain showed low 16S rRNA gene sequence identities (<91%) and low average nucleotide identity values (<70%) to the closest validly described species, and belonged to a novel-family-level lineage within the order Rhodospirillales of Alphaproteobacteria . Strain TMPK1 T exhibited small cell sizes (0.08–0.23 μm 3 ) and had a high cyclopropane fatty acid content (>13%), and these characteristics were differentiated from other Rhodospirillales bacteria. A comprehensive habitability search using amplicon datasets suggested that TMPK1 T and its close relatives are mainly distributed in soil and plant-associated environments. Based on these results, we propose that strain TMPK1 T represents a novel genus and species named Roseiterribacter gracilis gen. nov., sp. nov. (JCM 34627 T = KCTC 82790 T ). We also propose Roseiterribacteraceae fam. nov. to accommodate the genus Roseiterribacter .

Abstract:A Gram-stain positive, moderately thermophilic, acidotolerant and aerotolerant anaerobic bacterium, designated JN-28 T, was isolated from the pit mud of Chinese strong-flavor liquor. Growth was observed at 25-50 °C and pH 5.5-8.0 in the presence of 0-25 g l-1 NaCl (optimally at 45 °C, pH 6.0, without NaCl). Strain JN-28 T was heterotrophic, requiring yeast extract for growth. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15:0 and C14:0. The DNA G + C content of genomic DNA was 33.54 mol%. The strain was resistant to vancomycin (10 mg l-1). Genome analysis revealed the presence of genes involved in the response to mild acid stress and oxidative stress, and resistance to vancomycin. 16S rRNA gene-based phylogenetic analysis showed that strain JN-28 T shares ≤ 89.3 % sequence similarity with its closest relatives Sporanaerobacter acetigenes DSM 13106 T and other members in the order Tissierellales. Based on phenotypic and phylogenetic characteristics, Acidilutibacter cellobiosedens gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed for the new genus and novel species with the type strain JN-28 T (=CCAM 418 T = JCM 39087 T). Further phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses suggested strain JN-28 T represents a novel family within the order Tissierellales, for which Acidilutibacteraceae fam. nov. is proposed. In addition, the family Tissierellaceae was reclassified, Sporanaerobacteraceae fam. nov. and Tepidimicrobiaceae fam. nov. were formally proposed. Emended description of the family Tissierellaceae is also provided.

Abstract:The process of oxidation, due to free radicals, is the cause of major concern for human health. In particular damages related to the skin have great relevance; therefore, many antioxidants based products are developed and marketed with the intention to counteract the action of free radicals. The seed of Araucaria angustifolia is a rich source of antioxidants due to the presence of bioflavonoids to counteract free radicals damages. In this study, two extracts, one from the seed external teguments (shell) and the other from the inner seed pulp (endosperm and embryo) were obtained in order to evaluate possible applications to the dermo-cosmetic field. In parallel the following different methods were employed to characterize both the extracts and to determine their antioxidant capacity: HPTLC, ABTS and DPPH, ORAC and PLC. The qualitative analysis showed that both extracts have the antioxidant activity, but the quantitative evaluation revealed a more promising bioactivity from the shell than from the pulp. Therefore, it was evaluated the potential skin application of different cosmetic formulations, based on the presence of seed shell extract (W/O emulsion, O/W emulsion and gel). The best result was achieved with the W/O emulsion.

Abstract:A Gram-stain-negative bacterium with rod-shaped or irregular cells approximately 0.5-0.9×2.0-3.8 µm in size, designated as 960558T, was isolated from sediment sampled in the Mariana Trench. Strain 960558T grows at 4-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 6-7 (optimum, pH 7) and in the presence of 1-5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3 %). Strain 960558T utilizes tetradecane or hexadecane as a sole carbon and energy source, respectively. Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and phylogenomic reconstruction revealed a close phylogenetic relationship between strain 960558T and members of the family Rhodobacteraceae by forming a separate branch within the type species of closely related genera. The validly published species that is most closely related to strain 960558T is Planktotalea lamellibrachiae JAM 119T, which has the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (93.47 %). Ubiquinone 10 is the predominant ubiquinone, while C16 : 0, 11-methyl C18 : 1 ω7c and C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c are the predominant fatty acids (>10 %). Additionally, phosphatidylglycerol, glycolipids, diphosphatidylglycerol, unidentified polar lipids and unidentified aminolipids are the major polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain 960558T is 61 %. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization results of strain 960558T with other type strains are <70.2 and 22.1 %, respectively. Based on its phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and other phenotypic properties, strain 960558T is considered to represent a novel genus and species within the family Rhodobacteraceae, for which the name Abyssibius alkaniclasticus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Abyssibius alkaniclasticus is 960558T (=KCTC 82619T=MCCC 1K04727T).

Abstract:Three bacterial strains (Red232T, Red267T and Red630T) were isolated from paddy soils sampled in Japan. Cells of these strains were Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, long rod-shaped with monotrichous flagella or pilus-like structures for motility, and formed red colonies on agar plates. Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene and multiple single-copy gene sequences showed that the three strains formed a cluster with the type strains of Anaeromyxobacter species, independent from any other strain genera. Similarity values of the 16S rRNA gene sequences and genomes among the three isolated strains and the type strain of Anaeromyxobacter, Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenans 2CP-1T, were 95.4-97.4% for 16S rRNA gene sequence, 75.3-79.5% for average nucleotide identity, 19.6-21.7% for digital DNA-DNA hybridization and 64.1-72.6% for average amino acid identity, all of which are below the species delineation thresholds. Nitrogenase genes were observed in the genomes of the three novel strains, but not in A. dehalogenans 2CP-1T. Moreover, multiple genomic, physiological and chemotaxonomic features supported the discrimination between these three strains. Based on the evidence in this study, the three isolates represent three novel independent species for which the following names are proposed: Anaeromyxobacter oryzae sp. nov., Anaeromyxobacter diazotrophicus sp. nov. and Anaeromyxobacter paludicola sp. nov. The type strains are Red232T (=NBRC 114074T=MCCC 1K03954T), Red267T (=NBRC 114075T=MCCC 1K04211T), and Red630T (=NBRC 114076T=MCCC 1K03957T), respectively.
