Abstract:Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>2$. We determine the Hochschild cohomology of $U(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k))$ and the invariants of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(k)$ and $\mathsf{SL}_2(k)$ in the adjoint action on the divided power algebra $D(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k))$.

Abstract:In this paper, we compute explicitly both the $K$-theory and integral cohomology rings of the space of commuting elements in $SU(2)$ via the $K$-theory of its desingularization. We also briefly discuss the different behavior of its cohomology with complex and $\mathbb{Z}_2$ coefficients in the context of representation stability and FI-modules.

On the Hochschild Cohomology for Frobenius Kernels

Abstract:In this paper the authors investigate the structure of the Hochschild cohomology for Frobenius kernels. The authors first establish some fundamental constructions to compute Hochschild cohomology by using spectral sequences. This enables us to provide a complete description of the $G$-algebra structure of the Hochschild cohomology for the first Frobenius kernel $G_{1}$ where $G=SL_{2}$. This computation heavily relies on the calculation of the adjoint action on the restricted enveloping algebra.

Abstract:We report on computations of the cohomology of GL_2(O_D) and SL_2(O_D), where D<0 is a fundamental discriminant. These computations go well beyond earlier results of Vogtmann and Scheutzow. We use the technique of homology of Voronoi complexes, and our computations recover the integral cohomology away from the primes 2, 3. We observed exponential growth in the torsion subgroup of H^2 as $D$ increases, and compared our data to bounds of Rohlfs.

Abstract:Let St denote the Steinberg module of $SL_n(Q)$ tensored with Q. Let Sh denote the sharbly resolution of St. By Borel-Serre duality, $H^{n(n-1)/2-i}(SL_n(Z),Q)$ is isomorphic to $H_i(SL_n(Z),St)$. The latter is isomorphic to the homology of the $SL_n(Z)$-coinvariants of Sh. We produce nonzero classes in $H_i(SL_n(Z),St)$ for certain small $i$ in terms of sharbly cycles and cosharbly cocycles.

Cohomology of perfect Lie algebras

Abstract:We study the adjoint cohomology of perfect Lie algebras over the complex numbers. For the family of perfect Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2(\Bbb C)\ltimes V_m$ we obtain some explicit results for $H^k(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g})$ with $k\ge 0$. Here $V_m$ is the irreducible representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\Bbb C)$ of dimension $m+1$. For the computation of the cohomology we use the Hochschild-Serre formula, a long exact sequence in the cohomology and explicit formulas for the multiplicities of $V_k$ in the exterior product $\Lambda^j(V_m)$ for $j\le 4$. In general we cannot determine the total adjoint cohomology for $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\Bbb C)\ltimes V_m$, but for some small $m$ this is possible. We also give a classification of complex perfect Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$ of dimension $n\le 9$ and explicitly compute the cohomology spaces $H^k(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g})$ with $k=0,1,2$ for all Lie algebras from the classification list.

Abstract:For $k$ a field of positive characteristic and $X$ a smooth variety over $k$, we compute the Hochschild cohomology of Grothendieck's differential operators on $X$. The answer involves the derived inverse limit of the Frobenius acting on the cohomology of the structure sheaf of $X$.

Abstract:We compute the Hochschild cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces and observe that it is, in general, not determined solely by the Hochschild cohomology of the surface, but by its "Hochschild-Serre cohomology": the bigraded vector space obtained by taking Hochschild homologies with coefficients in powers of the Serre functor. As applications, we obtain various consequences on the deformation theory of the Hilbert schemes; in particular, we recover and extend results of Fantechi, Boissière, and Hitchin. Our method is to compute more generally for any smooth proper algebraic variety $X$ the Hochschild-Serre cohomology of the symmetric quotient stack $[X^n/\mathfrak{S}_n]$, in terms of the Hochschild-Serre cohomology of $X$.

Abstract:Let C be a small category and k a field. There are two interesting mathematical subjects: the category algebra kC and the classifying space |C|=BC. We study the ring homomorphism HH*(kC) --> H*(|C|,k) and prove it is split surjective. This generalizes the well-known results for groups and posets. Based on this result, we construct a seven-dimensional category algebra whose Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotents is not finitely generated, against a conjecture of Snashall and Solberg.

Abstract:Borel-Serre proved that $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z})$ is a virtual duality group of dimension $n \choose 2$ and the Steinberg module $\mathrm{St}_n(\mathbb{Q})$ is its dualizing module. This module is the top-dimensional homology group of the Tits building associated to $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Q})$. We determine the "relations among the relations" of this Steinberg module. That is, we construct an explicit partial resolution of length two of the $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z})$-module $\mathrm{St}_n(\mathbb{Q})$. We use this partial resolution to show the codimension-2 rational cohomology group $H^{{n \choose 2} -2}(\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z});\mathbb{Q})$ of $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z})$ vanishes for $n \geq 3$. This resolves a case of a conjecture of Church-Farb-Putman. We also produce lower bounds for the codimension-1 cohomology of certain congruence subgroups of $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z})$.

Abstract:Abstract Let $\mathscr{B}_0({\mathcal{G}})\subseteq k\,{\mathcal{G}}$ be the principal block algebra of the group algebra $k\,{\mathcal{G}}$ of an infinitesimal group scheme ${\mathcal{G}}$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic ${\operatorname{char}}(k)=:p\geq 3$. We calculate the restricted Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology ${\mathcal{L}}:={\operatorname{H}}^1(\mathscr{B}_0({\mathcal{G}}),\mathscr{B}_0({\mathcal{G}}))$ whenever $\mathscr{B}_0({\mathcal{G}})$ has finite representation type. As a consequence, we prove that the complexity of the trivial ${\mathcal{G}}$-module $k$ coincides with the maximal toral rank of ${\mathcal{L}}$.

Abstract:Under hypotheses required for the Taylor-Wiles method, we prove for forms of $U(3)$ which are compact at infinity that the lattice structure on upper alcove algebraic vectors or on principal series types given by the $\lambda$-isotypic part of completed cohomology is a local invariant of the Galois representation attached to $\lambda$ when this Galois representation is residually irreducible locally at places dividing $p$. As a crucial input, we establish corresponding mod $p$ multiplicity one results. Our main innovation is the combination of integral Hecke theory and the Taylor--Wiles method.

Abstract:We determine the structure of the equivariant cohomology and $K$-theory of Bott towers. By restriction, we obtain similar results for Bott-Samelson varieties. This results allow us to describe more precisely the equivariant cohomology and $K$-theory of the flag variety $X$. We give an expression for the cup product in $H_T^*(X)$.

Abstract:We prove that the direct sum of all homology groups of the integral general linear groups with Steinberg module coefficients form a commutative Hopf algebra, in particular a free graded commutative algebra. We use this to construct new infinite families of unstable cohomology classes of $SL_n(\mathbb Z)$.

Abstract:We study the torus equivariant K-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_G$ where $G$ is a connected reductive linear algebraic group. In type $A$, we introduce equivariantly deformed symmetric functions called the K-theoretic double $k$-Schur functions as the Schubert bases. The functions are constructed by Demazure operators acting on equivariant parameters. As an application, we provide a Ginzburg-Peterson type realization of the torus-equivariant K-homology ring of $\mathrm{Gr}_{{SL}_n}$ as the coordinate ring of a centralizer family for $PGL_n(\mathbb{C})$.

Abstract:Let ${\rm N}_m(R) = \{ (a_{ij}) \in {\rm M}_m(R) \mid a_{11} = a_{22} = \cdots = a_{mm} \mbox{ and } a_{ij} = 0 \mbox{ for any } i > j \}$ for a commutative ring $R$. Then ${\rm N}_m(R)$ is a quadratic monomial algebra over $R$. We calculate ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm M}_m(R)/{\rm N}_m(R))$ as $R$-modules. We also determine the $R$-algebra structure of the Hochschild cohomology ring ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm N}_m(R))$. For $m \ge 3$, ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm N}_m(R))$ is an infinitely generated algebra over $R$ and has no Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra structure giving the Gerstenhaber bracket.

Abstract:In this paper we study the second Hochschild cohomology group HH2(Λ) of a finite dimensional algebra Λ. In particular, we determine HH2(Λ) where Λ is a finite dimensional self-injective algebra of finite representation type over an algebraically closed field K and show that this group is zero for most such Λ; we give a basis for HH2(Λ) in the few cases where it is not zero.

Abstract:We develop a new spectral sequence in order to calculate Hochschild homology of smash biproducts (also called twisted tensor products) of unital associative algebras $A\# B$ provided one of $A$ or $B$ has Hochschild dimension less than 2. We use this spectral sequence to calculate Hochschild homology of quantum tori, multiparametric quantum affine spaces, quantum complete intersections, quantum Weyl algebras, deformed completed Weyl algebras, and finally the algebra $M_q(2)$ of quantum $2\times 2$-matrices.
