Abstract:We construct an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-action on equivariant $\mathfrak{gl}_N$-link homologies. As a consequence we obtain an action of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on these homologies as well as a $p$-DG structures for $p$ a prime number. We explore topological applications of these structures.

Abstract:In the present work, we realize the space of 2-string links $\mathcal{L}$ as a free algebra over a colored operad denoted $\mathcal{SCL}$ (for "Swiss-Cheese for links"). This result extends works of Burke and Koytcheff about the quotient of $\mathcal{L}$ by its center and is compatible with Budney's freeness theorem for long knots. From an algebraic point of view, our main result refines Blaire, Burke and Koytcheff's theorem on the monoid of isotopy classes of string links. Topologically, it expresses the homotopy type of the isotopy class of a 2-string link in terms of the homotopy types of the classes of its prime factors.

Abstract:The Turaev surface of a link diagram D is a closed, oriented surface constructed from a cobordism between the all-A and all-B Kauffman states of D. The Turaev genus of a link L is the minimum genus of the Turaev surface of any diagram D of L. A link is alternating if and only if its Turaev genus is zero, and so one can view Turaev genus one links as being close to alternating links. In this paper, we study the Khovanov homology of a Turaev genus one link in the first and last two polynomial gradings where the homology is nontrivial. We show that a particular summand in the Khovanov homology of a Turaev genus one link is trivial. This trivial summand leads to a computation of the Rasmussen s invariant and to bounds on the smooth four genus for certain Turaev genus one knots.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper we consider compact algebraic manifolds M^2n with an algebraic (n-1)-Torus action. We show that there is a T-invariant meromorphic section $\sigma$ of the canonical bundle of M. Any such $\sigma$ defines a divisor D. On the complement M'=M-D we have a trivialization of the canonical bundle and a T-action. If the first cohomology of M' vanishes, then results of [2] imply that there is a Special Lagrangian (SLag) fibration on M'. We study how the fibers compactify in M and give examples of SLag fibrations on M', including some cases there the first cohomology of M' doesn't vanish. In the second part of the paper we study Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in M. We assume that $\sigma$ is an inverse of a holomorphic section $\eta$ of the anti-canonical bundle of M. We will see that under certain assumptions one can choose a holomorphic volume form on the smooth part D' of the divisor D s.t. orbits of the T-action give a SLag fibration on D' with respect to the metric, induced from M. Transversal sections $\eta_j$ near $\eta$ define smooth Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces D_j in M. We will show that one can deform the SLag fibration on D' to SLag fibrations on large parts of D_j. This construction applies for instance for D_j being quintics in CP^4 or Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in the Grassmanian G(2,4).

Abstract:We define a new family of commuting operators $F_k$ in Khovanov-Rozansky link homology, similar to the action of tautological classes in cohomology of character varieties. We prove that $F_2$ satisfies ``hard Lefshetz property" and hence exhibits the symmetry in Khovanov-Rozansky homology conjectured by Dunfield, Gukov and Rasmussen.

Torsion in linearized contact homology for Legendrian knots

Abstract:We present examples of Legendrian knots in $\mathbb{R}^3$ that have linearized Legendrian contact homology over $\mathbb{Z}$ containing torsion. As a consequence, we show that there exist augmentations of Legendrian knots over $\mathbb{Z}$ that are not induced by exact Lagrangian fillings, even though their mod $2$ reductions are.

Abstract:Quantum invariants like the colored Jones polynomial are algebraic in nature but are conjectured to detect important information about the geometry of links. In this thesis we explore these connections using an enhanced version of the RT construction. Our invariants take the holonomy of a flat connection on the link complement as input, so we call them holonomy invariants. The case of trivial holonomy recovers the ordinary RT construction. We consider holonomy representations into $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb C)$, which are closely related to hyperbolic geometry. In order to define our invariants we consider a particular coordinate system on the space of representations closely related to the octahedral decomposition of the knot complement. We call the corresponding diagrams shaped tangles. Using shaped tangles we define a family of holonomy invariants $\mathrm{J}_N$ indexed by integers $N \ge 2$, which we call the nonabelian quantum dilogarithm. They can be interpreted as a noncommutative deformation of Kashaev's quantum dilogarithm (equivalently, the $N$th colored Jones polynomial at a $N$th root of unity) or of the ADO invariants, depending on the eigenvalues of the holonomy. Our construction depends in an essential way on representations of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at $q = \xi$ a primitive $2N$th root of unity. We show that $\mathrm{J}_N$ is defined up to a power of $\xi$ and does not depend on the gauge class of the holonomy. Afterwards we introduce a version of the quantum double construction for the holonomy invariants. We show that the quantum double $\mathrm{T}_N$ of the nonabelian dilogarithm $\mathrm{J}_N$ admits a canonical normalization with no phase ambiguity. Finally, we prove that in the case $N = 2$ the doubled invariant $\mathrm{T}_2$ computes the Reidemeister torsion of the link complement twisted by the holonomy representation.

Classification of small links in the unmarked solid torus

Abstract:We introduce a framework to analyze knots and links in an unmarked solid torus. We discuss invariants that detect when such links are equivalent under an ambient homeomorphism, and show that the multivariable Alexander polynomial is such in invariant. We compute, for links with low wrapping number, bounds on the degree of a Dehn twist needed to transform one into the other that depend on the dichromatic Kauffman polynomial. Finally, we use this to give a classification of all non-split links up to 6 crossings in the unmarked solid torus.

Calibrated Fibrations on Complete Manifolds via Torus Action

Abstract:In this paper we will investigate torus actions on complete manifolds with calibrations. For Calabi-Yau manifolds M^2n with a Hamiltonian structure-preserving k-torus action we show that any symplectic reduction has a natural holomorphic volume form. Moreover Special Lagrangian (SLag) submanifolds of the reduction lift to SLag submanifolds of M, invariant under the torus action. If k=n-1 and the first cohomology of M is trivial, then we prove that M is a fibration with generic fiber being a SLag submanifold. As an application we will see that crepant resolutions of singularities of a finite Abelian subgroup of SU(n) acting on C^n have SLag fibrations. We study SLag submanifolds on the total space K(N) of a canonical bundle of a Kahler-Einstein manifold N with positive scalar curvature. We give a conjecture about fibration of K(N) by SLag subvarieties with a certain asymptotic behavior at infinity, which we prove if N is toric. We also get similar results for coassociative submanifolds of a G_2-manifold M^7, which admits a 3-torus, a 2-torus or an SO(3)-action.
Equivariantly formal 2-torus actions of complexity one

Abstract:In this paper we study a specific class of actions of a $2$-torus $\mathbb{Z}_2^k$ on manifolds, namely, the actions of complexity one in general position. We describe the orbit space of equivariantly formal $2$-torus actions of complexity one in general position and restricted complexity one actions in the case of small covers. It is observed that the orbit spaces of such actions are topological manifolds. If the action is equivariantly formal, we prove that the orbit space is a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-homology sphere. We study a particular subclass of these $2$-torus actions: restrictions of small covers to a subgroup of index 2 in general position. The subgroup of this form exists if and only if the small cover is orientable, and in this case we prove that the orbit space of a restricted $2$-torus action is homeomorphic to a sphere.

Abstract:We give examples of Anosov actions of $\mathbb{Z}^2$ on the $d$-torus $T^d$ that cannot be homotoped to a smooth action on $T^d\#\Sigma$, for certain exotic $d$-spheres $\Sigma$. This is deduced using work of Krannich, Kupers, and the authors that, in particular, computes the mapping class group of $T^d\#\Sigma$.

Abstract:R. Kashaev and N. Reshetikhin introduced the notion of holonomy braiding extending V. Turaev's homotopy braiding to describe the behavior of cyclic representations of the unrestricted quantum group Uq sl(2) at root of unity. In this paper, using quandles and biquandles we develop a general theory for Reshetikhin-Turaev ribbon type functor for tangles with quandle representations. This theory applies to the unrestricted quantum group Uq sl(2) and produces an invariant of links with a gauge class of quandle representations.

Abstract:We put a new spin on Khovanov--Rozansky homology. That is, we equip $\Lambda^n$-colored $\mathfrak{sl}_{2n}$ Khovanov--Rozansky homology with an involution whose $\pm 1$-eigenspaces are link invariants. When $n=1,2,3$ (and assuming technical conjectures for $n \geq 4$), we prove that this refined invariant categorifies the spin-colored $\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}$ quantum link polynomial. Along the way, we partially develop the theory of quantum $\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}$ webs and make contact with $\iota$quantum groups.

Computing the Khovanov homology of 2 strand braid links via generators and relations

Abstract:In "Homfly polynomial via an invariant of colored plane graphs", Murakami, Ohtsuki, and Yamada provide a state-sum description of the level $n$ Jones polynomial of an oriented link in terms of a suitable braided monoidal category whose morphisms are $\mathbb{Q}[q,q^{-1}]$-linear combinations of oriented trivalent planar graphs, and give a corresponding description for the HOMFLY-PT polynomial. We extend this construction and express the Khovanov-Rozansky homology of an oriented link in terms of a combinatorially defined category whose morphisms are equivalence classes of formal complexes of (formal direct sums of shifted) oriented trivalent plane graphs. By working combinatorially, one avoids many of the computational difficulties involved in the matrix factorization computations of the original Khovanov-Rozansky formulation: one systematically uses combinatorial relations satisfied by these matrix factorizations to simplify the computation at a level that is easily handled. By using this technique, we are able to provide a computation of the level $n$ Khovanov-Rozansky invariant of the 2-strand braid link with $k$ crossings, for arbitrary $n$ and $k$, confirming and extending previous results and conjectural predictions by Anokhina-Morozov, Beliakova-Putyra-Wehrli, Carqueville-Murfet, Dolotin-Morozov, Gukov-Iqbal-Kozcaz-Vafa, Nizami-Munir-Sohail-Usman, and Rasmussen.

Abstract:It is a natural question to ask whether two links are equivalent by the following moves -- parallel parts of a link are changed to k-times half-twisted parts and if they are, how many moves are needed to go from one link to the other. In particular if k=2 and the second link is a trivial link it is the question about the unknotting number. The new polynomial invariants of links often allow us to answer the above questions. Also the first homology groups of cyclic branch covers over links provide some interesting information. In the first part of the paper we apply the Jones-Conway (Homflypt) and Kauffman polynomials to find whether two links are not t_k equivalent and if they are, to gain some information how many moves are needed to go from one link to the other. In the second part we describe the Fox congruence classes and their relations with t_k moves. We use the Fox method to analyze relations between t_k moves and the first homology groups of branched cyclic covers of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://links.In" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> the third part we consider the influence of t_k moves on the Goeritz and Seifert matrices and analyze Lickorish-Millett and Murakami formulas from the point of view of t_k moves and illustrate them by various examples. At the end of the paper we outline some relations with signatures of links and non-cyclic coverings of link spaces.

Abstract:We extend a construction of Jones to associate $(n, n)$-tangles with elements of Thompson's group $F$ and prove that it is asymptotically faithful as $n \to\infty$. Using this construction we show that the oriented Thompson group $\vec F$ admits a lax group action on a category of Khovanov's chain complexes.

Character varieties of torus links

Abstract:In this paper, we study the geometry of the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of the complement of a torus link into an algebraic group G, an algebraic variety known as the G-character variety of the torus link. These torus links are a family of links in the 3-dimensional sphere formed by stacking several copies of torus knots. We develop an intrinsic stratification of the variety that allows us to relate its geometry with the one of the underlying torus knot. Using this information, we explicitly compute the E-polynomial associated to the Hodge structure of these varieties for $G=SL_2(\mathbb{C})$ and $SL_3(\mathbb{C})$, for an arbitrary torus link, showing an unexpected relation with the number of strands of the link.

Abstract:We provide a finite dimensional categorification of the symmetric evaluation of $\mathfrak{sl}_N$-webs using foam technology. As an output we obtain a symmetric link homology theory categorifying the link invariant associated to symmetric powers of the standard representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_N$. In addition, the construction is actually made in an equivariant setting. We prove also that there is a spectral sequence from the Khovanov-Rozansky triply graded link homology to the symmetric one and provide along the way a foam interpretation of Soergel bimodules.
