Abstract:Calculating the carbon footprint (CF) holds paramount importance in today's world as it provides a tangible measure of our impact on the environment. In the corporate realm, businesses armed with CF data can optimize operations, reduce waste, and adopt greener technologies, leading to both environmental and economic benefits. In this study, carbon emissions—a significant global issue—are investigated through the lens of the ISO 14067-ISO Product Based Carbon Footprint (CF) standard, focusing on the operations of a mold company. The primary innovation lies in meticulously tracing every stage of plastic bottle blow mold production, the most prevalent product in the mold industry, from its raw material input to its final form as a mold in the factory. Subsequently, detailed calculations and analysis are conducted to quantify the carbon footprint associated with this process and its impact on the environment. The calculated CF for one ton of PBBM produced by Petka Mold Industry is presented. This study fills a critical gap in the literature by providing a holistic understanding of the carbon footprint of plastic bottle blow mold (PBBM) production, thereby offering valuable insights for managing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability within the mold industry. By integrating a life cycle product carbon footprint thinking into industrial practices, a greener, more sustainable future can be paved, mitigating the ecological footprint of the PBBM.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to evaluate the carbon footprint of plastic bottle blow molds (PBBM) based on the product lifecycle to manage carbon emissions in the mold industry. The study tracks every production stage of the plastic bottle blow molds, from raw materials to the final factory molds, using the ISO 14067 standard to calculate their carbon emissions and their impact on the environment. The paper mentions that calculating carbon footprints is crucial in today's world as it provides a concrete measure of our impact on the environment, helping companies optimize operations, reduce waste, and adopt more environmentally friendly technologies. The paper firstly introduces the background of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, emphasizing the importance of international agreements and conventions in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Then, the literature review section lists previous studies on the environmental impact of mold material lifecycle and the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) in different manufacturing processes. The research objective of the paper is to fill the gap in existing literature regarding the carbon footprint of PBBM by comprehensively understanding its lifecycle carbon footprint, providing valuable information for managing carbon emissions in the mold industry, and promoting industry sustainability. Additionally, the research aims to propose strategies to reduce the ecological footprint of PBBM and promote a greener future. In conclusion, this paper is dedicated to addressing the quantification of carbon emissions in the production process of plastic bottle blow molds and providing strategies to reduce these emissions in response to the challenges of global climate change.
