Abstract:We consider topological groupoids in finite and also in a compact settings. In the initial sections, we introduce definitions of typical observables and we studied them in the context of statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics. We exhibit explicit examples and one of them will be the so-called quantum ratchet. This is related to Schwinger's algebra of selective measurements. Here we consider $\mathcal{G}$-kernels, transverse functions, modular functions, and quasi-invariant measures for Haar systems. Later we present our main result which is a version of Tannaka's theorem for Hausdorff compact groupoids - extending the original proof of T. Tannaka.

Abstract:We introduce a Künneth class in the quantum equivariant setting inspired by the pioneer work by J. Chabert, H. Oyono-Oyono and S. Echterhoff, which allows to relate the quantum Baum-Connes property with the Künneth formula by generalising some key results of Chabert-Oyono-Oyono-Echterhoff to discrete quantum groups. Finally, we make the observation that the C$^*$-algebra defining a compact quantum group with dual satisfying the strong quantum Baum-Connes property belongs to the Künneth class. This allows to obtain some K-theory computations for quantum direct products based on earlier work by Voigt and Vergnioux-Voigt.

Abstract:A quotient of a poset $P$ is a partial order obtained on the equivalence classes of an equivalence relation $\theta$ on $P$; $\theta$ is then called a congruence if it satisfies certain conditions, which vary according to different theories. The literature on congruences and quotients of partially ordered sets contains a large and profilerating array of approaches, but little in the way of systematic exposition and examination of the subject. We seek to rectify this by surveying the different theories in the literature and providing philosophical discussion on requirements for notions of congruences of posets. We advocate a pluralist approach which recognises that different types of congruence arise naturally in different mathematical situations. There are some notions of congruence which are very general, whilst others capture specific structure which often appears in examples. Indeed, we finish by giving several examples where quotients of posets appear naturally in mathematics.

Abstract:We provide several constructions in differential KO-theory. First, we construct a differential refinement of the $\hat{A}$-genus and a pushforward leading to a Riemann-Roch theorem. We set up a differential refinement of the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence (AHSS) for differential KO-theory and explicitly identify the differentials, including ones which mix geometric and topological data. We highlight the power of these explicit identifications by providing a characterization of forms in the image of the Pontrjagin character. Along the way, we fill gaps in the literature where K-theory is usually worked out leaving KO-theory essentially untouched. We also illustrate with examples and applications, including higher tangential structures, Adams operations, and a differential Wu formula.

The Choquet-Deny Property for Groupoids

Abstract:A countable discrete group is called Choquet-Deny if for any non-degenerate probability measure on the group, the corresponding space of bounded harmonic functions is trivial. Building on the previous work of Jaworski, a complete characterization of Choquet-Deny groups was recently achieved by Frisch, Hartman, Tamuz, and Ferdowski. In this article, we extend the study of the Choquet-Deny property to the framework of discrete measured groupoids. Our primary result offers a complete characterization of this property in terms of the isotropy groups and the equivalence relation associated with the given groupoid. Additionally, we use the implications derived from our main theorem to classify the Choquet-Deny property of transformation groupoids.

Abstract:We initiate a study of non-commutative Choquet boundary for spaces of unbounded operators. We define the notion of local boundary representations for local operator systems in locally C$^*$-algebras and prove that local boundary representations provide an intrinsic invariant for a particular class of local operator systems. An appropriate analog of purity of local completely positive maps on local operator systems is used to characterize local boundary representations for local operator systems in Frechet locally C$^*$-algebras.

Abstract:We define a family of quiver representation-valued invariants of oriented classical and virtual knots and links associated to a choice of finite quandle $X$, abelian group $A$, set of quandle 2-cocycles $C\subset H^2_Q(x;A)$, choice of coefficient ring $k$ and set of quandle endomorphisms $S\subset \mathrm{Hom}(X,X)$. From this representation we define four new polynomial (or ``polynomial'' depending on $A$) invariants. We generalize to the case of biquandles and compute some examples.

Abstract:In this survey paper, we present Čech and sheaf cohomologies -- themes that were presented by Koszul in University of São Paulo during his visit in the late 1950s -- we present expansions for categories of generalized sheaves (i.e, Grothendieck toposes), with examples of applications in other cohomology theories and other areas of mathematics, besides providing motivations and historical notes. We conclude explaining the difficulties in establishing a cohomology theory for elementary toposes, presenting alternative approaches by considering constructions over quantales, that provide structures similar to sheaves, and indicating researches related to logic: constructive (intuitionistic and linear) logic for toposes, sheaves over quantales, and homological algebra.

Abstract:The works of R. Descartes, I. M. Gelfand and A. Grothendieck have convinced us that commutative rings should be thought of as rings of functions on some appropriate (commutative) spaces. If we try to push this notion forward we reach the realm of Non-commutative Geometry. The confluence of ideas comes here mainly from three seemingly disparate sources, namely, quantum physics, operator algebras (Connes-style) and algebraic geometry. Following the title of the article, an effort has been made to provide an overview of the third point of view. Since na\" ive efforts to generalize commutative algebraic geometry fail, one goes to the root of the problem and tries to work things out "categorically". This makes the approach a little bit abstract but not abstruse. However, an honest confession must be made at the outset - this write-up is very far from being definitive; hopefully it will provide glimpses of some interesting developments at least.

Abstract:These notes are intended as an introduction to a study of applications of noncommutative calculus to quantum statistical Physics. Centered on noncommutative calculus we describe the physical concepts and mathematical structures appearing in the analysis of large quantum systems, and their consequences. These include the emergence of algebraic approach and the necessity of employment of infinite dimensional structures. Abstract:Since its genesis in the early 1980s, the subject of quantum groups has grown rapidly. By the late 1990s most of the foundational issues had been resolved and many of the outstanding problems clearly formulated. To take stock and to discuss the most fruitful directions for future research many of the world's leading figures in this area met at the Durham Symposium on Quantum Groups in the summer of 1999, and this volume provides an excellent overview of the material presented there. It includes important surveys of both cyclotomic Hecke algebras and the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation. Plus contributions which treat the construction and classification of quantum groups or the associated solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. The representation theory of quantum groups is discussed, as is the function algebra approach to quantum groups, and there is a new look at the origins of quantum groups in the theory of integrable systems.
