Abstract:Several generalizations of a commutative ring that is a graded complete intersection are proposed for a noncommutative graded $k$-algebra; these notions are justified by examples from noncommutative invariant theory.

Abstract:This paper is to look for bi-Frobenius algebra structures on quantum complete intersections over field k . We find a class of comultiplications, such that if , then a quantum complete intersection becomes a bi-Frobenius algebra with comultiplication of this form if and only if all the parameters q ij = ±1. Also, it is proved that if then a quantum exterior algebra in two variables admits a bi-Frobenius algebra structure if and only if the parameter q = ±1. While if , then the exterior algebra with two variables admits no bi-Frobenius algebra structures. We prove that the quantum complete intersections admit a bialgebra structure if and only if it admits a Hopf algebra structure, if and only if it is commutative, the characteristic of k is a prime p , and every a i a power of p . This also provides a large class of examples of bi-Frobenius algebras which are not bialgebras (and hence not Hopf algebras). In commutative case, other two comultiplications on complete intersection rings are given, such that they admit non-isomorphic bi-Frobenius algebra structures.

Abstract:Let I be an m-primary ideal of a Noetherian local ring (R,m). We consider the Gorenstein and complete intersection properties of the associated graded ring G(I) and the fiber cone F(I) of I as reflected in their defining ideals as homomorphic images of polynomial rings over R/I and R/m respectively. In case all the higher conormal modules of I are free over R/I, we observe that: (i) G(I) is Cohen-Macaulay iff F(I) is Cohen- Macaulay, (ii) G(I) is Gorenstein iff both F(I) and R/I are Gorenstein, and (iii) G(I) is a relative complete intersection iff F(I) is a relative complete intersection. In case R/I is Gorenstein, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for G(I) to be Gorenstein in terms of residuation of powers of I with respect to a reduction J of I with \mu(J) = dim R and the reduction number r of I with respect to J. We prove that G(I) is Gorenstein iff J:I^{r-i} = J + I^{i+1}, for i = 0, ...,r-1. If (R,m) is a Gorenstein local ring and I \subseteq m is an ideal having a reduction J with reduction number r such that \mu(J) = ht(I) = g > 0, we prove that the extended Rees algebra R[It, t^-1}] is quasi-Gorenstein with \a-invariant a if and only if J^n:I^r = I^{n+a-r+g-1} for every integer n.

Abstract:This paper is to look for bi-Frobenius algebra structures on quantum complete intersections. We find a class of comultiplications, such that if $\sqrt{-1}\in k$, then a quantum complete intersection becomes a bi-Frobenius algebra with comultiplication of this form if and only if all the parameters $q_{ij} = \pm 1$. Also, it is proved that if $\sqrt{-1}\in k$ then a quantum exterior algebra in two variables admits a bi-Frobenius algebra structure if and only if the parameter $q = \pm 1$. While if $\sqrt{-1}\notin k$, then the exterior algebra with two variables admits no bi-Frobenius algebra structures. Since a quantum complete intersection over a field of characteristic zero admits no bialgebra structures, this gives a class of examples of bi-Frobenius algebras which are not bialgebras (and hence not Hopf algebras). On the other hand, a quantum exterior algebra admits a bialgebra structure if and only if ${\rm char} \ k = 2$. In commutative case, other two comultiplications on complete intersection rings are given, such that they admit non-isomorphic bi-Frobenius algebra structures.

Abstract:Inspired by the commutator and anticommutator algebras derived from algebras graded by groups, we introduce noncommutatively graded algebras. We generalize various classical graded results to the noncommutatively graded situation concerning identity elements, inverses, existence of limits and colimits and adjointness of certain functors. In the particular instance of noncommutatively graded Lie algebras, we establish the existence of universal graded enveloping algebras and we show a graded version of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem.

Abstract:Recent works of the authors have demonstrated the usefulness of considering moduli spaces of Artinian reductions of a given ring when studying standard graded rings and their Lefschetz properties. This paper illuminates a key aspect of these works, the behaviour of the canonical module under deformations in this moduli space. We demonstrate that even when there is no natural geometry around, we can give a viewpoint that behaves like it, effectively constructing geometry out of nothing, giving interpretation to intersection numbers without cycles. Moreover, we explore some properties of this normalization.

Abstract:Let $(R,\fm)$ be a local ring and $\fa$ be an ideal of $R$. The inequalities $$\begin{array}{ll} \ \Ht(\fa) \leq \cd(\fa,R) \leq \ara(\fa) \leq l(\fa) \leq \mu(\fa) \end{array}$$ are known. It is an interesting and long-standing problem to find out the cases giving equality. Thanks to the formal grade we give conditions in which the above inequalities become equalities.

Abstract:We consider homogeneous binomial ideals $I=(f_1,\ldots,f_n)$ in $K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, where $f_i = a_i x_i^{d_i} - b_i m_i$ and $a_i \neq 0$. When such an ideal is a complete intersection, we show that the monomials which are not divisible by $x_i^{d_i}$ for $i=1,\ldots,n$ form a vector space basis for the corresponding quotient, and we describe the Macaulay dual generator in terms of a directed graph that we associate to $I$. These two properties can be seen as a natural generalization of well-known properties for monomial complete intersections. Moreover, we give a description of the radical of the resultant of $I$ in terms of the directed graph.

Abstract:In this note we first study regular $\mathbb{Z}$-graded local rings. We characterize commutative noetherian regular $\mathbb{Z}$-graded local rings in similar ways as in the usual local case. The characterization by the length of (homogeneous) regular sequences fails in the graded case in general. Then, we characterize graded isolated singularity for commutative $\mathbb{Z}$-graded semilocal algebra in terms of the global dimension of its associated noncommutative projective scheme. As a corollary, we obtain that a commutative affine $\mathbb{N}$-graded algebra generated in degree $1$ is a graded isolated singularity if and only if its associated projective scheme is smooth; if and only if the category of coherent sheaves on its projective scheme has finite global dimension, which are known in literature.

Abstract:We develop an approach to study the irreducibility of generic complete intersections in the algebraic torus defined by equations with fixed monomials and fixed linear relations on coefficients. Using our approach we generalize the irreducibility theorems of Khovanskii to fields of arbitrary characteristic. Also we get a combinatorial sufficient conditions for irreducibility of engineered complete intersections. As an application we give a combinatorial condition of irreducibility for some critical loci and Thom-Bordmann strata: $f = f'_x = 0$, $f'_x = f'_y = 0$, $f = f'_x = f'_{xx} = 0$, etc.

On local divisor class groups of complete intersections

Abstract:Samuel conjectured in 1961 that a (Noetherian) local complete intersection ring that is a UFD in codimension at most three is itself a UFD. It is said that Grothendieck invented local cohomology to prove this fact. Following the philosophy that a UFD is nothing else than a Krull domain (that is, a normal domain, in the Noetherian case) with trivial divisor class group, we take a closer look at the Samuel--Grothendieck Theorem and prove the following generalization: Let $A$ be a local Cohen--Macaulay ring. (i) $A$ is a normal domain if and only if $A$ is a normal domain in codimension at most $1$. (ii) Suppose that $A$ is a normal domain and a complete intersection. Then the divisor class group of $A$ is a subgroup of the projective limit of the divisor class groups of the localizations $A_p$, where $p$ runs through all prime ideals of height at most $3$ in $A$. We use this fact to describe for an integral Noetherian locally complete intersection scheme $X$ the gap between the groups of Weil and Cartier divisors, generalizing in this case the classical result that these two concepts coincide if $X$ is locally a UFD.

Abstract:Our present work is motivated by several papers which have introduced and studied the notion of nonnil-Noetherian rings. Let A = ⊕ α ∈ G A α be a commutative ring with unity graded by an arbitrary commutative monoid G . We define A to be graded-nonnil-Noetherian ring if every nonnil graded ideal of A , that is, a graded ideal which is not contained in Nil(A), is finitely generated. The purpose of this paper is to give the graded version of several characterizations, properties and basic results proved in [3], [7] and [4]. We also show the non-triviality of our generalization by giving examples of graded-nonnil-Noetherian rings which are not nonnil-Noetherian and of graded-nonnil-Noetherian rings which are not graded-Noetherian.
