Abstract:A divisible design graph is a graph whose adjacency matrix is an incidence matrix of a (group) divisible design. Divisible design graphs were introduced in 2011 as a generalization of $(v,k,\lambda)$-graphs. Here we describe four new infinite families that can be obtained from the symplectic strongly regular graph $Sp(2e,q)$ ($q$ odd, $e\geq 2$) by modifying the set of edges. To achieve this we need two kinds of spreads in $PG(2e-1,q)$ with respect to the associated symplectic form: the symplectic spread consisting of totally isotropic subspaces and, when $e=2$, a special spread consisting of lines which are not totally isotropic. Existence of symplectic spreads is known, but the construction of a special spread for every odd prime power $q$ is a major result of this paper. We have included relevant back ground from finite geometry, and when $q=3,5$ and $7$ we worked out all possible special spreads.

Abstract:For every odd prime power $q$, a family of pairwise nonisomorphic normal arc-transitive divisible design Cayley digraphs with isomorphic neighborhood designs over a Heisenberg group of order $q^3$ is constructed. It is proved that these digraphs are not distinguished by the Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm and have the Weisfeiler-Leman dimension $3$.

Abstract:In the nineties, A.G. Spera introduced a construction principle for divisible designs. Using this method, we get series of divisible designs from finite Laguerre geometries. We show a close connection between some of these divisible designs and divisible designs whose construction was based on a conic in a plane of a 3-dimensional projective space.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a semigroup with $0$ and $R$ be a ring with $1$. We extend the definition of the zero-divisor graphs of commutative semigroups to not necessarily commutative semigroups. We define an annihilating-ideal graph of a ring as a special type of zero-divisor graph of a semigroup. We introduce two ways to define the zero-divisor graphs of semigroups. The first definition gives a directed graph ${\Gamma}(S)$, and the other definition yields an undirected graph $\overline{\Gamma}(S)$. It is shown that $\Gamma(S)$ is not necessarily connected, but $\overline{\Gamma}(S)$ is always connected and ${\rm diam}(\overline{\Gamma}(S))\leq 3$. For a ring $R$ define a directed graph $\Bbb{APOG}(R)$ to be equal to $\Gamma(\Bbb{IPO}(R))$, where $\Bbb{IPO}(R)$ is a semigroup consisting of all products of two one-sided ideals of $R$, and define an undirected graph $\overline{\Bbb{APOG}}(R)$ to be equal to $\overline{\Gamma}(\Bbb{IPO}(R))$. We show that $R$ is an Artinian (resp., Noetherian) ring if and only if $\Bbb{APOG}(R)$ has DCC (resp., ACC) on some special subset of its vertices. Also, It is shown that $\overline{\Bbb{APOG}}(R)$ is a complete graph if and only if either $(D(R))^{2}=0$, $R$ is a direct product of two division rings, or $R$ is a local ring with maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ such that $\Bbb{IPO}(R)=\{0,\mathfrak{m},\mathfrak{m}^{2}, R\}$. Finally, we investigate the diameter and the girth of square matrix rings over commutative rings $M_{n\times n}(R)$ where $n\geq 2$.

Strongly regular graphs decomposable into a divisible design graph and a Hoffman coclique

Abstract:In 2022, the second author found a prolific construction of strongly regular graphs, which is based on joining a coclique and a divisible design graph with certain parameters. The construction produces strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the complement of the symplectic graph $\mathsf{Sp}(2d,q)$. In this paper, we determine the parameters of strongly regular graphs which admit a decomposition into a divisible design graph and a coclique attaining the Hoffman bound. In particular, it is shown that when the least eigenvalue of such a strongly regular graph is a prime power, its parameters coincide with those of the complement of $\mathsf{Sp}(2d,q)$. Furthermore, a generalization of the construction is discussed.

Abstract:Given a graph $G$ whose edges are labeled by ideals of a commutative ring $R$ with identity, a generalized spline is a vertex labeling of $G$ by the elements of $R$ so that the difference of labels on adjacent vertices is an element of the corresponding edge ideal. The set of all generalized splines on a graph $G$ with base ring $R$ has a ring and an $R$-module structure. In this paper, we focus on the freeness of generalized spline modules over certain graphs with the base ring $R = k[x_1 , \ldots , x_d]$ where $k$ is a field. We first show the freeness of generalized spline modules on graphs with no interior edges over $k[x,y]$ such as cycles or a disjoint union of cycles with free edges. Later, we consider graphs that can be decomposed into disjoint cycles without changing the isomorphism class of the syzygy modules. Then we use this decomposition to show that generalized spline modules are free over $k[x , y]$ and later we extend this result to the base ring $R = k[x_1 , \ldots , x_d]$ under some restrictions.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the problem of lifting the GW theory of a symplectic divisor to that of the ambient manifold in the context of symplectic birational geometry. In particular, we generalize Maulik–Pandharipande’s relative/absolute correspondence to relative-divisor/absolute correspondence. Then, we use it to lift a minimal uniruled invariant of a divisor to that of the ambient manifold.

The regularity of almost all edge ideals

Abstract:A fruitful contemporary paradigm in graph theory is that almost all graphs that do not contain a certain subgraph have common structural characteristics. The "almost" is crucial, without it there is no structure. In this paper we transfer this paradigm to commutative algebra and make use of deep graph theoretic results. A key tool are the critical graphs introduced by Balogh and Butterfield. We consider edge ideals $I_G$ of graphs and their Betti numbers. The numbers of the form $\beta_{i,2i+2}$ constitute the "main diagonal" of the Betti table. It is well known that any Betti number $\beta_{i,j}(I_G)$ below (or equivalently, to the left of) this diagonal is always zero. We identify a certain "parabola" inside the Betti table and call parabolic Betti numbers the entries of the Betti table bounded on the left by the main diagonal and on the right by this parabola. Let $\beta_{i,j}$ be a parabolic Betti number on the $r$-th row of the Betti table, for $r\ge3$. Our main results state that almost all graphs $G$ with $\beta_{i,j}(I_G)=0$ can be partitioned into $r-2$ cliques and one independent set, and in particular for almost all graphs $G$ with $\beta_{i,j}(I_G)=0$ the regularity of $I_G$ is $r-1$.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group. The bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees is the undirected graph with vertex set consisting of the prime numbers dividing some character degree and of the non-identity character degrees, where a prime number $p$ is declared to be adjacent to a character degree $m$ if and only if $p$ divides $m$. This graph is bipartite and it encodes two of the most widely studied graphs associated to the character degrees of a finite group: the prime graph and the divisor graph on the set of irreducible character degrees. The scope of this paper is two-fold. We draw some attention to the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees by outlining the main results that have been proved so far. In this process we improve some of these results and we leave some open problems.

$q$-Analogs of divisible design graphs and Deza graphs

Abstract:Divisible design graphs were introduced in 2011 by Haemers, Kharaghani and Meulenberg. In this paper, we introduce the notion of $q$-analogs of divisible design graphs and show that all $q$-analogs of divisible design graphs come from spreads, and are actually $q$-analogs of strongly regular graphs. Deza graphs were introduced by Erickson, Fernando, Haemers and Hardy in 1999. In this paper, we introduce $q$-analogs of Deza graphs. Further, we determine possible parameters, give examples of $q$-analogs of Deza graphs and characterize all non-strongly regular $q$-analogs of Deza graphs with the smallest parameters.

Abstract:We introduce two common divisor graphs associated with a finite skew brace, based on its $\lambda$- and $\theta$-orbits. We prove that the number of connected components is at most two and the diameter of a connected component is at most four. Furthermore, we investigate their relationship with isoclinism. Similarly to its group theoretic inspiration, the skew braces with a graph with two disconnected vertices are very restricted and are determined. Finally, we classify all finite skew braces with a graph with one vertex, where four infinite families arise.

The complete classification of isotopy classes of degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ via a novel algebraic theory of braid monodromy

Abstract:We develop a new algebraic theory of positive braids and conjugacy classes in the braid group $B_3$. We use our theory to establish a complete classification of isotopy classes of degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ with only $A_n$-singularities for $n\geq 1$ (an $A_n$-singularity is locally modelled by the equation $z^2 = w^n$) independent of Gromov's theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. We show that if $C$ and $C'$ are degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ with the same numbers of $A_n$-singularities for each $n\geq 1$, then $C$ is isotopic to $C'$. Furthermore, our theory furnishes a single method of proof that independently establishes and unifies several fundamental classification results on degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$. In particular, we prove using our theory: (1) there is a unique isotopy class of degree three smooth symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ (a result due to Sikorav), (2) the number of nodes is a complete invariant of the isotopy class of a degree three nodal symplectic curve in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ (the case of irreducible nodal curves is due to Shevchishin and the case of reducible nodal curves is due to Golla-Starkston), and (3) there is a unique isotopy class of degree three cuspidal symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ (a generalization of a result due to Ohta-Ono). The present work represents the first step toward resolving the symplectic isotopy conjecture using purely algebraic techniques in the theory of braid groups. Finally, we independently establish a complete classification of genus one Lefschetz fibrations over $\mathbb{S}^2$ (a result due to Moishezon-Livne).

Abstract:A finite graph $\Gamma$ is $G$-symmetric if it admits $G$ as a group of automorphisms acting transitively on $V(\Gamma)$ and transitively on the set of ordered pairs of adjacent vertices of $\Gamma$. If $V(\Gamma)$ admits a nontrivial $G$-invariant partition ${\cal B}$ such that for blocks $B, C \in {\cal B}$ adjacent in the quotient graph $\Gamma_{{\cal B}}$ relative to ${\cal B}$, exactly one vertex of $B$ has no neighbour in $C$, then we say that $\Gamma$ is an almost multicover of $\Gamma_{{\cal B}}$. In this case there arises a natural incidence structure ${\cal D}(\Gamma, {\cal B})$ with point set ${\cal B}$. If in addition $\Gamma_{{\cal B}}$ is a complete graph, then ${\cal D}(\Gamma, {\cal B})$ is a $(G, 2)$-point-transitive and $G$-block-transitive $2$-$(|{\cal B}|, m+1, \lambda)$ design for some $m \geq 1$, and moreover either $\lambda=1$ or $\lambda=m+1$. In this paper we classify such graphs in the case when $\lambda = m+1$; this together with earlier classifications when $\lambda = 1$ gives a complete classification of almost multicovers of complete graphs.
The coherent rank of a graph with three eigenvalues

Abstract:We characterise graphs that have three distinct eigenvalues and coherent ranks 8 and 9, linking the former to certain symmetric 2-designs and the latter to specific quasi-symmetric 2-designs. This characterisation leads to the discovery of a new biregular graph with three distinct eigenvalues. Additionally, we demonstrate that the coherent rank of a triregular graph with three distinct eigenvalues is at least 14. Finally, we introduce a conjecturally infinite family of biregular graphs with three distinct eigenvalues, obtained by switching the block graphs of orthogonal arrays.

Abstract:. Let K/k be a finite abelian extension of function fields with Galois group G . Using the Stickelberger elements associated to K/k studied by J. Tate, P. Deligne and D. Hayes, we construct an ideal I in the integral group ring ℤ[G] relative to the extension K/k , whose elements annihilate the group of divisor classes of degree zero of K and whose rank is equal to the degree of the extension. When K/k is a (wide or narrow) ray class extension, we compute the index of I in ℤ[G] , which is equal to the divisor class number of K up to a trivial factor.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate non-rationality of divisors on 3-fold log Fano fibrations (X, B) -> Z under mild conditions. We show that if D is a component of B with coefficient >= t > 0 which is contracted to a point on Z, then D is birational to P-1 x C, where C is a smooth projective curve with gonality bounded depending only on t. Moreover, if t > 1/2, then genus of C is bounded depending only on t.
The First Syzygy of Hibi Rings Associated with Planar distributive lattices

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{L}$ be a finite distributive lattice and $S=K[x_\alpha: \alpha \in \mathcal{L}]$ be a polynomial ring over a field $K$ and $I=\langle x_\alpha x_\beta - x_{\alpha\vee \beta} x_{\alpha\wedge\beta} : \alpha \nsim \beta,\alpha,\beta \in {\mathcal{L}} \rangle$ an ideal of $S$. In this article we describe the first syzygy of the Hibi ring $R[\mathcal{L}]=S/I$, for a planar distributive lattice $\mathcal{L}$. We also derive an exact formula for the first Betti number of a planar distributive lattice. We give a characterization of planar distributive lattices for which the first syzygy is linear.

Isomorphic gcd-graphs over polynomial rings

Abstract:Gcd-graphs over the ring of integers modulo $n$ are a simple and elegant class of integral graphs. The study of these graphs connects multiple areas of mathematics, including graph theory, number theory, and ring theory. In a recent work, inspired by the analogy between number fields and function fields, we define and study gcd-graphs over polynomial rings with coefficients in finite fields. We discover that, in both cases, gcd-graphs share many similar and analogous properties. In this article, we extend this line of research further. Among other topics, we explore an analog of a conjecture of So and a weaker version of Sander-Sander, concerning the conditions under which two gcd-graphs are isomorphic or isospectral. We also provide several constructions showing that, unlike the case over $\mathbb{Z}$, it is not uncommon for two gcd-graphs over polynomial rings to be isomorphic.

Abstract:In this article we consider a version of the geography question for simply-connected symplectic 4-manifolds that takes into account the divisibility of the canonical class as an additional parameter.
